Hey everyone...as most of you may know, but some don't, Maxis has announced formally today that the next expansion pack will be Pets.

***New Rule!***
We'd also like to take this time to inform you of a new temporary rule that will be in effect for this web site. As with all new expansion packs, we have very little knowledge to the changes made and the mod-ability (is that a word?) of the new features. This being said we will NOT be allowing ANY pet requests, until our top modders have had ample time to disect this new Create-A-Pet feature and assess its degree of difficulty.
Anyone who posts a pet request will have their post removed immediately and be issued a warning for not following instructions.
Please give us enough time (probably about a month or so) to be able to learn what we need to so we can eventually allow pet requests.

How exciting is this?! Thank you for posting the news link, we finally have a release date, if I read that correctly, Oct. 17 for pc. I just hope they allow us to suspend the aging like we do for the humans. I have four little dogs, (Buffy, the "Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful" in my avatar is my little Shih Tzu. You can't read the print because the pic would have to be too big) but anyway I'll be able to fashion a little doggie after each one. This is great news!

When I bought Family Fun Stuff on the day it came out the workers at Game Stop asked me if I wanted to put money down on the Pets expansion pack but I dont think they said pets it was some other thing relating to animals.

Sorry, but this is one expansion I will definitely be giving a miss to (Unless it is needed for something else).. I always found "Unleased" a rather stupidly realized expansion in S1, as I did not like the roaming "strays" at all. (I could live without the puddles they made constantly on the walkways as well).

warmbear: didn't you ever use the "no strays" sign? yeah, the strays were irritating, but who's to say we'll even have tehm in this game? this isn't Unleashed. it's Pets. You know what else was irritating about The Sims 1? people waking up earlier than they want=ing and throwing an hour-long fit, thus missing work. But that didn't keep you from buying The Sims 2, did it? No, cuz they don't do that anymore.
I'm so PSYCHED about Pets. actually, the EA Store had it a week ago that you could pre-order Pets, before it was officially announced. they had a picture and all already up.

I hope they can woohooo and create puppies. That was my favorite thing to do with Sims 1. I love dogs and I found it so fun to have a house full of them. I also turned it into a business and sold them. It was awesome. I cannot wait to see what they come up with!

It looks like they've included all the great features that I'd hope they'd include. You don't just have to pick a pet, you can make one! Sounds great. What I'm more excited about though isn't the game, but what the community (especially MTS2) will be able to do once they figure out how the pets work. I'm crossing my fingers that a llama will eventually surface somewhere on the Internet. :D

And this is the next expansion pack. Glamour life is the next Stuff Pack.

It states on the Maxis site that will be strays.

I will not be buying Pets until someone makes a mod/hack that prevents strays and owned pets coming onto lots. I don't want them doing their mess on my lots. If pets don't count as friends (as in The Sims 1) then there is no point them coming onto lots.

From reading the news post, and how Unleased worked, pets will count toword the maximum of eight "sims" per lot. And their will be birds and rodents (guinea pigs, but most likely modable for others). Hacks to prevent strays shouldn't take too long to make. And SimPE shouldn't take more than a month. Just be patient.

This is why I have so much respect for this site. As much as I can't wait for Pets to be released I will wait for all the problem to be resolved before buying it. You know that a week after it is released there will be a patch to fix something. This is Maxis pattern. I appreciate the fact that all the hacker, modder, creator and artist would like the chance to make sure the product they produce is the best and workable. I think I'm more excited about what our creator will produce, than playing the game itself. I know that may sound strange to some but what is created in the communities is alway better than what is in the game. If you go to the Sims2.com, there's a transcript of a chat that was going on between some of the creators and Sim players and they said that, if you've got OFB, you'll be able to run a pet shop. The moderator of the largest Sims 2 group on MySpace was invited *all expenses paid* to the convention they had to do with the EP Pets. Also, on the front page of the group, he was able to make a video where he voiced over in Simlish. It's crazy, it's the video titled "Sim Stevey while at Maxis."

Im tryin not to be mean to anyone but the actual number of pets you can have is 6 and the max number of sims is still 8 but you can only have 12 sims and pets on the lot (sorry if that doesnt make sense.) 2 dogs can have "woohoo" in a kennel if they have enough relationship points and the litter ranges from 1-4 puppies.
Unfortunatly dogs and cats will not be directly controlable but luckily maxis are releasing a cheat so you can control them. I hope this covers most of your questions. Btw all these questions were answered with the transcripts off the sims 2 website you should really read them.

Is anyone else not excited for this?
Myself, I can't think of a time when playing the Sims that I'd want to deal with some stupid dog or cat or bird. I love my own cats, but I can't see the appeal of this expansion. I hope it doesn't take up too much of the game play - like, it would be upsetting if my sims always had "Buy a Dog" in their Wants or something.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.
