I'm trying to borrow meshes from the columns to make varieties of in-game fences...
They appear and work in my base game copy, but I know I may leave some links "floating" or unaccomplished...
Sorry for my bumping around and I'm all done today. I should have saved my olde thread for future usage.
Thanks for any help in advance... :anime:

I tested the Moroccan/column combo in the base game, and it works here. I was going to test the invisifence one for you, too, but I forgot to copy it before I started the game.
I made some fences before like that, but not your same combinations. I found I did not need anything else to make them except an XFNC and a STR#. This package is pretty old, but you can find it at:

Of course, with your method you should be able to create custom textures for the meshes.

Thanks for your guideline...
Gonna check them out... :D and :anime:
That's true, one can just alter the cres references to make hybrids...:D but I want some different recolours rather than the default ones, so I need the cres and shpe and probably txmt files to archive that. And if there're other textures or materials that will fit my wants, I'll use them instead of those Maxis intentionally made for the meshes.
Thanks again... a box of flowers of your like(s)... :)
Update1:
It's amazing that leaving out the values for cres parameters can still work well... cool just like the wall fences...
Actually, what does the parameter "height" do? I've seen it in different values but still failed to correlate them with the resultant objects. Altering it won't make the fence any higher or lower in my trials.
Update2:
I guess I just need only the mesh subsets in the shpe files and can delete the original ones...
They appear to work in my base game well so far.
Gonna make more...! :bunny:

Walls and fences are cool.
It has been quite a while since I played with either, but you can enable multiple wall types that construct with the wall tool by editing the walls.txt file. If I remember correctly, among the things you can change is the default texture from the bare-drywall to anything you want.
You can also make some changes to fences in fences.txt, but I can no longer remember what interesting things I found there. But, since these files are in the game directory, it is a less-awesome challenge than what you are doing.

Edit: Oh, by-the-way, I tested the morocco/column combo fence in Life Stories and it works just fine.

wes_h, thanks for that... with a verbal cup of drink of your like(s)...
Gonna release those repository fences...
I'm trying to make a fence out of windows and columns now...:D Hopefully, I can solve the problems myself... :jest:
Thanks again... :anime:
As for the wall thingies, I guess I may try to make a transparent wall as a new wall-type. Hopefully, that'll work out.

If you want really invisible, try using null_cres (or at least the GMDC). I know you see how the transparent parts are built.
It needs installed with the fence/wall tool, has the flags to stop walking over/through, and you can even hang a picture on it (spooky looking).

The file name "null_cres" looks familiar but I can't recall where to find the file or just the name. Probably, it's not in the base game... Then, I'll have to switch to the NL-OFB copy or yet another game copy...
I've fooled around with the nullmodel_cres and its related gmnd, txmt, shpe, gmdc files.
Strangely, Some of the null gmdc files are actually meshful but quite likely a horizontal plain.
it's a disappointment that the windows and 1-grid object get misaligned to the starting post, as in the file IndoorGlass - t1c.
But, I've figured out how to make it look alright with A-maze-ingHedge.
I'm trying to make yet another freaky fence... :D
But, I feel stuck for the lighting parts.
Tornado Solid Steel Fence -cc2a3c
and
Moi's Lightning Fence -t1a2
As for the wall thingy, there're already settings to make invisible walls but the only question left is whether transparent wall is approachable even though alpha is working, but probably it's only visible or invisible only without blending.
Yet, then, it's about modding the wall shader...
Transparent wall may enable transparent wallpapers and wallpapers can be deformed with the cheat boolprop constrainfloorelevation false.
Animated wallpaper is another thingy I wanna see and surely if all simpler approaches fail, modding the wall shader is the way to go then. I'm afraid there'll be at least 2 versions of wall shader mods to fulfill all types of users by then.
After all, there seems to be at least 1 simple transparent wallpapers in-game but it's about whether they can be made by modding the HCP products and whether they can be unleashed. However, the material is defined in the wall shader. That transparent wallpaper is the one we see when we select the wall segment for wallpapering. To me, wall is just such a complicated subject to mod. Parts of of the wall definitions may still be hidden in the build tools codes which I can't find anything about it... After all, that'll be a topic out of here.

nullmodel_cres and its related gmnd, txmt, shpe, gmdc files.
I'm sorry, I believe that nullModel_cres was what I meant. Thanks for the catch.

I'm sorry I really didn't mean to catch something...
Honestly, I once used that name null_cres to replace some cres references without knowing I can't find it...:D
Just a simple hasty conclusion about the cres referencing... so a missing value for cres reference at the xml files or a non-sense value can still work for the cres at the xml files as in cases like fences. These 2 ways can just serve the purpose of nullifying the related part(s) just as well as the nullmodel series. so, these are all working. :jest:
as for the latest fences, I'm still fooling around...with my eyes  ...
I know that's a challenge to me and not so to sophisticated modders...
going back to dig them... :D

I've been trying hard to think of a way to make some lighting fences...
But nothing works so far in all my attempts  and when I checked my pillow, I've lost 28 hair strings... all thru the time for thinking and tying to solve this...
Please help, anyone(s) :P ?
