Tigger notes:
This is a thorough tutorial, but accessory meshing is not usually considered beginner material. You can get experience with milkshape and learn the features of unimesh by doing the 3 body/clothing tutorials for Unimesh.

Also there is assorted text info about editing accessories here (http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?t=139586)

i had made this tutorial to help
understand how to made accesories easily.
hope i had made it understandable.
i include too links to other tutorials
and the base girl model used in the tutorial.
hope this help you :D
hughs !
mininessie

you need Simpe the latest version
and Milkshape ,last version too
and Unimesh (latest version recommended)

To use the tutorial you need to decompress the rar file "ACCESORY TUTORIAL BY MININESSIE (WEB PAGE FILE).rar " after do it..you will find an .htm file and another rar...this one includes the images ..you need decompress it in the same place and you will have a folder named "accesories tutorial_archivos"...this one and the "accesories tutorial.htm" need to be in same place ....i had to do this because the total file is so big and only is allowed 10 mg in the attachtments.

This is a nice picture-full tutorial. Between the text information in the infocenter here (http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?t=139586) and this tutorial, everyone should have everything they might need.

$RaMRoM$ - Load up a body mesh and compare to the vertices on the body mesh below it. That's how to do it for any accessory.

Btw, as far as I'm aware, the flashing blue accessory issue has not been solved/addressed by EA at all. So investing a lot of effort into accessories is a mixed bag, they give many people problems in pets and seasons.

Some accessories or combinations seem to do it more often than others - but some people have a particular accessory in their game and it works, and another person will have the same accessory blue.

Thanks for the link to the info. I was wondering what was happening to one pair of glasses that would work fine sometimes but be flashing blue at others. I have pets and seasons ep's so it's good to know that there is a work arround for the problem.

tiggerypum
25th May 2007, 08:49 AM
bsett, it's not much of a 'work around' unless you really don't mind taking your sim(s) to the mirror every time you load the lot. That is why I've said many folks have grown frustrated and think twice or 3 times before making a mesh as an accessory.

corvidophile2
25th May 2007, 10:21 AM
That accessory thing is really mysterious, it was of course "introduced" with pets but i uninstalled pets and it seems Seasons causes the same problem as well.

I think is mysterious because as Tig said some stuff may not flash for someone and flash blue for another. In my game i had an accessory that it didnt flash for a quite while but then one day it started doing it .I'm assuming it has to do with something else i downloaded perhaps another accessory. It's really annoying :-(

Thank you so much for the tutorial, for a while now i have wanted to make an accessory and this is God sent! And yes i will make it despite the problem.Going to the mirror isn't as tedious and perhaps in the future maxis will fix the problem.lol

I'm sorry Mini I forgot to thank you for the easy to follow tut. The "blue flash" bug is a real shame. I can see people spending several hours carefully following a tutorial to crank out their first acceessory only to be frustrated by the blue flash and thinking it's something they did wrong :(

I don't know how to use this tutorial, I downloaded and unpacked it, but none of the pictures show up, they're just red crosses.

$RaMRoM$
11th Jul 2007, 11:22 AM
Inge, extract the tutorial with that folder, it contains all the images, the html document reads from those images :)

Inge Jones
11th Jul 2007, 11:35 AM
Yeah I extracted it, then I found there was another rared package inside there with all the images so I extracted that too. That didn't help. Then I copied the images into the top level folder with the html page and that didn't help either, still red crosses.

$RaMRoM$
11th Jul 2007, 12:26 PM
make sure that they are in the same directory and that u didnt rename the folder, there should be the tutorial, and in the same directory there will be a folder called images_archivos or something :)

I will download the file and see if there were any troubles

*edit*
When you download the rar file you will find inside it an html document and an other rar file, extract them both to the desktop, open the other rar you extracted and you will find a folder in it contains images and a filelist.xml , extract the FOLDER then when u open it it will run perfectly :)

How do we make alpha-editable accessories? I've downloaded some alpha-editable accessories to open in ms3d and read their group comments but it didn't make any sense. I think there's another way?

I've changed my MATD settings..my accessory is alpha editable now but looks weird. It's transparent.. http://i14.tinypic.com/52dd2qf.jpg
I set stdMatAlphaBlendMode to blend and stdMatAlphaTestEnabled to 0. There are no underweighted bones or something. Could anybody tell me how to fix it please?
Edit: and stdMatUntexturedDiffAlpha is set to 1

(I've no problem about the shape of the mesh, I know it looks weird too but I'll work on it  )

tiggerypum and mininessie, thanks so much for taking the time to help me. But I can't fix the problem. tiggerypum I don't have Pets or Seasons installed, so I believe the problem should be something else.
I can create an alpha editable plane-(which looks quiet good). But when it comes to cylinders or boxes they look odd in bodyshop.
Anyway, I was trying to make an alpha editable purse. I searched the community If someone ever made one. But couldn't find. Maybe it's impossible

well i had tested it
your configuration shows transparent in my pc
i set the "alpha blend mode " to none
and the "alpha test enabled" to 1
in one pc where i have all eps my configuration shows goo in bodyshop
but still transparent in game.

but in the laptop i have the base game only
and works fine with my settings in both bodyshop and game
here i upload my testing file
see if this works on your pc and tell me about please :)

I was wondering if you need to create a new package in body shop every time you want to make an accessory or can you just use one package as a template to create all your accessories.

sim0727
17th Jul 2008, 06:03 AM
For each package I've created with body shop so far none of them have 6 files under any of the 3D ID files. The most I have are 5. Did they change they way the do things for freetime?

Never mind. :) I think the problem was that I was using the goggles and tiki mask to make my accessory in body shop.

I tried this tutorial and the fact that it is done in pictures is very helpful, but I am still confused a bit. I've never done any accessories before, so forgive my confusion.
I'm a bit lost at the end...where it says " select your package files from your folder, copy and paste in the saved sims folder".
I'm not sure what package files are to be pasted into the saved sims folder.

Just to see if I understand anything..
We open the original package in the saved sims folder. Save it to a new folder, then create a new package in SIM PE.
We extract the GMDC,GMND,CRES and SHPE and save them to a new package.
We link the original package with the new mesh package and then save the new mesh package and place into the saved sims folder along with the original package?
I know I'm cutting out a bunch of steps here but I'm just trying to get an idea of what the basic steps are and where to save what when I am done ..
Any help appreciated.
Babu

yees ,this is ok!
in your work folder you need to have the original one you used and the mesh one that you made.
you need place your new mesh package, and replace the original one modified(after link it to the mesh) in the saved sims folder!
hope i explain it well now :)

I finally found the tutorial I need :) (can't get the HTML page to work, so I'm just looking at the pictures - I learn best visual too...)

but I have a problem. I think it's something weird going on in Sim PE, because when I come to image006 (that message shows up for me) and click yes, I get Sim PE tells me that it is "unable to start tool plugin". I've tried to figure out what this tool plugin is - but I'm not very familiar with Sim PE, and I can't find it in the menus (if it's even there). Do you have any idea what's wrong? I've tried looking through the Sim PE user manual thingy, but it doesn't say what it is.

I'm trying to make some all age accessories (I've got a perfect base mesh with all ages included - and the meshes themselves are pretty much done, both rescaled and refitted to each age) - but both Sim PE and bodyshop is messing everything up... (unlike milkshape, whish is behaving really good, for a change) :(

Pretty much the only thing I know when it comes to Sim PE is recoloring default overrides (like infant outfits)... I sort of know how to recolor maxis object meshes, and I once managed to recolor CC object meshes - but that's it. (well, I actually figured out how to make a "default replacement" for a CC mesh - couldn't figure out how to clone it... I guess I should've started there first, but I'm sort of in a hurry to get the acessory to work...)

for the html page to work you must extract the page and the images in the same folder ,I had compress the images in a rar, into the main rar for making it more light.

about the plugin ...i think you need Managed Direct X 9c

you can download it here:
