I want to include an object from University as a career reward for a career I'm making, but I don't want to accidentally make it so that it will work without University. Will cloning an object with SimPE and changing its GUID do that? If so, what can I do to prevent it? Can I delete part of it and make it so it references the deleted parts from the original object? Or is cloning it safe already?

When you clone an object from an EP, it won't work without that particular EP, so you should be safe.

Thanks. And thanks for your quick response, too.

Actually, it might work without University, depending on what the object is.

I discovered this by accident - I have made a few objects cloned from University objects - one was a bookshelf, which included the University options, as well as the standard bookshelf options.

Later, I had to re-install my game, and my University disc refused to install, so I now have a University-less installation. But I was surprised to find that my cloned bookshelf still showed up, and still worked properly.

I then did some checking, and it seems that each expansion pack updates all the objects as if every earlier expansion pack was installed, whether or not it really is installed.

Of course, if the object in question is only available with a particular expansion (like the University musical instruments) they won't be available, but I would expect all general-use objects like tables, chairs, lamps, bookcases, etc would still work as long as the person downloading it had at least one later expansion pack installed.

He may have great ideas, but he certainly could use some help with his communication skills. Also social graces would be a good area of study, too.
Of course, maybe I am being unfair. Third graders usually miss the subtler points of social interaction.
