Most my CC works, model sims, hair, clothes, but when I try to add a skin, only the color of the skin shows. I cant find the actual face that comes with the skin, which should change, but it doesn't. I installed these skins by teru_k (among many). Shame they dont work properly. Basically, the original game sim shows up, and if I click on the skin, their skin color only changes. Every other content is dispersed throughout, eyes, makeup of that skin, but the head/face is not there. I click on the star * to get the skin because its not in the whole sim section, where you click to get the full body sim (like where you can find models, and my models are there.)

I have vista and I just started playing sims on here.

I would appreciate any help.

Skintones are just textures - they don't change the shape of the face. They may -seem- to change the shape of the face depending on how they're made - a certain way of highlighting and shadowing may make the nose seem pointier or rounder, etc., but what you describe, the original game sim with changed skin, is exactly what skintones are meant to do. Skins are supposed to be in the * section, not whole sim. Unless you actually download a whole sim, all of the individual custom content parts like skin, eyes, hair, etc., are basically just "ingredients" for you to make your own sims.

wow really? i could have sworn that it wasn't like that. I had teru_k's Asian skins in my game before, and I actually had the Asian faces too. So, whats the point of having the face part so detailed--example, big lips. I dont get the same big lips in the game as the skin shows. Also, whats the point of creators making the faces different if there is no change?

Well, with sims you're basically dealing with two things:

Texturing, and shape. The shape is based on the way you adjust the different sliders and you can change that yourself easily in-game in Create a Sim, or just by playing around in Body Shop. The texturing comes from the skin, and any other stuff you put on like makeup. Two sims can have wildly different face shapes, but wear the same skin, and look completely different. Sims have to be able to have children and pass on their face shapes and skintones to their kids - a sim may get the skin texturing from their mother, but in face shape, more resemble their father.

And just as a specific example, here are two of my own sims:

Pariah: http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=223743
Kiana: http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=244422

They both use the exact same skintone, the medium from my Idolatry of Flesh set:

But they are obviously two very different sims, primarily because of their wildly different face shapes - just as they are both different from the model I used for the skintone, but the -texturing- on their faces is the same.

Does that make it a bit clearer? :)

I understood what u meant, but I cant help but think that the whole sim showed up on my old computer. The bat part is, I cant recall cause it was over two years ago that I played and added skins and sims. I also have seen some sims out there that use teru_k's skins and look exactly like the sims he has modeling the skins. This was in a Korean website.

I like your sims and thanks for the examples. Also, thanks for easing my worry that I had to fix my game. I thought something was not showing up properly.

By the way, the thing that also threw me off was when I add the asian skintone...the sin does not look asian whatsoever. Am I supposed to mold the face into an asian face?

Yes, you would need to sculpt the face so it looks somewhat Asian if that's what you want.

If you look under Teru's profile, you'll see that they uploaded two of their models - if you get those, you will have the full sims and thus Teru's face shapes as well as the skin. It's possible that you maybe got those before?

thanks very much.

I did find out that some of my stuff still didnt install though. Some models for example. Do you happen to know why that is?
