The only custom hood I ever used was a sub-hood for Desiderata Valley, and it was called "Blue Bay Harbor". It actually turned out pretty nice, but I don't use it anymore since I bought Apartment Life. Belladonna Cove is my new obsession.

my current hood is called Crispwood
Crisp = my partners surname
wood = because it's full of trees
i've created it from scratch but I don't have time to build all the houses myself so i've downloaded about 90% of them, it's slowly starting to take shape and actually look like a neighbourhood
I forgot to put that I have collectively named all of Crispwood and it's sub-hoods The Land Of Green Ginger. named after an actual street in a city near me. I just think it's so cute lol..

I've two custom 'hoods, Martello and FrizzleRock.
Both are pretty new, but Martello is the more expanded one with custom sub hoods- Alpin IT, Pheonix Place and JuneHill Village. It's where Rosalie Falls, my little legacy founder, is going to pop out some pixel spawn.
FrizzleRock probably won't get any subhoods because I want to see what it's like playing without them. It's going to be a secluded little neighborhood. You can guess by the name what kind of all year season it's going to have. I'm going to make a secluded little spot for some vampires, because no one is going to expect them to be in FrizzleRock. :P

i'm still filling them all out at the moment :)

I have one I'm currently lazily working on. By working on, I mean bullying my boyfriend to make the actual maps. >.> he's the road designer not me. But uh. Said hood is a real fictional place that characters he and I write about live in. o_O It even has its own history, haha. It's ah..Ravenhurst, named so after a pirate founding it (he's micheal ravenhurst, whole different story, wot). The boyfriend's got most of the region built in his game, I just gotta get him to make some downtown areas and such. I'm even lazily working on the actual buildings that're in the town. Got The Wharf Rat Inn built already. =D *is a dorky dork of dorkness*

So far I've been playing the Uber-MegaHood but my custom hood (which I still have finished making CAS sims for) is called Rossmere. My downtown is called Westwood and Uni is going to be Rockford. That's all I've got so far.

2nd Dec 2008, 02:17 AM
My new custom NH (currently under construction) is called Winchester Lakes - the Winchester part after those beautiful Supernatural boys, and the Lakes part because the NH template is Three Lakes from BV. The uni hood is really original (she says, sarcastically) - Winchester Lakes University, and the vacation hood is just named after the template (Moon Isles, or whatever it's called) until I can think of a better name. Often I have to build the NH up a bit before I can think of a good, fitting name.

I have two custom neighbourhoods that I play most.
The first is The Disc and houses my two legacies. The university is Unseen University, the shopping district and downtown are Ankh and Morpork respectively. All the houses are named using the same theme (except one which is the TARDIS). Guess what themes I'm using for my legacies ;)
The other neighbourhood is for a prosperity and is New Tamriel, the university is the only subhood I've customised so far and is the Arcane University.

My newest hood is called "New Crackton" because this game is so addictive. I'm not sure I like it so far, though - I'm thinking of scrapping it for better neighborhood planning.

My neighbourhood is called 'The Republic of Sam'.
I don't know why I called it that :P, but I've been using it for four years now, and it's absolutely huge!
It has the the 3 suburbs, a uni, a shopping area, 2 small islands, and the major city :D.
Unfortunately it takes aaaaaages to load, but it's sentimental value is enormous!

Make sure you backup each time you play! Just copy the N00x folder from Documents\ EA Games\ The Sims 2\ Neighborhoods to a safe place. It would be awful if anything happened to it!

I had a custom neighbourhood before my game crashed for the umpteenth time and I had to remove and reinstall everything. I still miss that neighbourhood...
Anyway, it was called Murphy's Faire. Just to make it sound authentic I dug up an Irish dictionary for the names (because Flemish names just don't sound right when you've got the game set in English) and Murphy's Faire is actually a subtle reference to the folk song Finnegan's Wake (Faire means grave, if I remember it correctly), I named the Downtown Carrickdunne, influenced by a stone near a river I decided to call the Duinne (which means brown, I believe, which says a lot about the river itself :p ). Shopping area was called Duinne Valley with reference to the Dublin Liffey Valley shopping centre and University was called Pearse University (I'll leave the reference out here because it's kind of politically inspired) ~ I still have my custom buildings for the University! Yay! :anime:
(They cost me a lot of time and effort... )
I was planning on making a similar neighbourhood with Japanese names when the game crashed and refused to work completely. Gone either neighbourhood!
And I'm down to playing Belladonna Cove now (because I deleted all the other neighbourhoods) but it gave me a great idea! An entire neighbourhood with names based on witchy herbs and spices! :D
Once my computer learns to deal with more than one neighbourhood, I'll try all of them again :D
When I let my imagination go, it won't stop

I am most likely the least interesting hood namer and creator known to the sims world.
I have never made a custom sub-hood. I add maxis subhoods to every neighborhood- all of them. My custom neighborhoods (I'm a frequent deleter) have been named everything from Legacy Island, to Pinewood Cove. All exceptionally boring, though.

My fave hood right now is called "Hero Ville" after the singer Hero from DBSK. It's a small town where everyone knows one another and news travels real fast! Once one of my sims pee'd herself and now the entire hood knows about it!

I'm really stuck for a name for my new hood. it's only small, & I plan on building all my own lots etc... (either from scratch or maxis make-overs) and I currently only have one family on it which is a legacy family. My other hood is called Crispwood, but I think i've already mentioned that :-?

I only really focus on Pleasantville, tbh, and create sub-neighbourhoods as my population grows.
So, I have Bluewater Villiage as per and I currently have two sub-neighbourhoods
Das Begas: A desert neighbourhood where the Community lots are all nightclubs and/or casino type places and the houses are very modern, all have pools and people are rich
Eternal Pastures: A neighbourhood full of graveyards, including a pet cemetary. Full of tress. It only has three families - The Vampp Family, who are all vampires, the Moon family, who are werewolves and the Karloff family, who are all Zombies

my fave hood is called Uta's Revenge. Uta (pronounced with a "oooo" sound)happens to be my fav name so anytime i get a chance i use it. The first place I saw the name was in a medieval art book (she a sculpture Nuremburg Cathedral) and unique.
I don’t know where the revenge part came from. I think it makes the hood sound mysterious, like anything could happen their.

Everything I create is either inspired by names in Nevada, my homestate, or Austin, TX which is where I am now. I have a neighborhood named Driftwood (it has good BBQ), and all of the streets are named after ones in Austin. In my downtowns, I create well known hangouts from Austin, such as Spiderhouse, an outdoor coffee house, and many real clubs from 6th St. Most of my universities have dorms named after the counties in Nevada, Nye, Clark hall etc. So yeah. A lot of my neighborhoods are inspired from things in real life. :)

Previously, I had been planning on making a town name Pixelvania ((like Pennsylvania)) but after reading some of the names of your neighborhoods mine seems very immature. Can you guys help me create a name for my neighborhood? Heres some info about it:
.Its quite suburbn but there is a downtown and shopping district.
.Most teenagers go to one college but one quarter goes to a fancy college and the other quarter goes to a party college.
.This neighborhood will be made of sims from CAS ((just with makeovers)). The same can be said about the homes. ((I currently have an obsession with making over premade things)).

I made a place called Denarii City. I think Denarii is Ancient Roman currency. Anyway, this was my game/movie 'hood (nevor got the movies to take off). Then penny town (along the same lines as Denarii City (currency and all)), Then a place called Admiral City... Finaly created a Central City, then my game was more or less screwed (too many bugs, some from boolprops being left on) and I started a new game after WIndows was reinstalled. I remade Central City, and I might remake Denarii and Admiral city as well.
And so comes from the person who makes really long messages for things that can be said in 2 lines, say good bye (until next post) :howdy:

When I started my Baac 3 months ago, I called my custom hood Nulparayeur (kind of No where else) then I shortened it to Parayeur. Now I named it Paray-Roches-Noires (Paray-Black-Stone) because of its black rocks.
I'm not really creative when it comes to naming things.

I've had:
Silent Falls
Snowpine Valley
The Aradia Project
I've just started one called Hourglass Bay, i think i had an idea to do a soap opera NH, but PV is already soap-operaish, so i might delete it. I can't be bothered spending all those hours making all those shops and parks etc! I'll probably start Aradia Project again, since that got deleted soon after i started it, because i wanted to set PV back to its original state. I didn't know how to set NH's back to default properly so i just uninstalled/re-installed an ep. I hope i don't break my game.

I have two Neighbourhoods, the first is called Carmilla, because i took the Name of my best Friend Camilla as inspiration. Seahaven, the second Neighbourhood, is named after a City which occurs in one of R.L. Stine's Books about the Fear Street. It's a small Harbor City, so i think that matches good... I like both Names very much.

I have a custom neighborhood called Shellville and it has my best ever family - the Livingstons, on generation 6. They are the only serious family there. Shellville is nicely ordered with road names such as Marsh Lane, Poverty Lane and West Leigh Avenue. I also have Hollywood where I create my Sim movies. Most of the hollywood inhabitants get killed off once their part is finished.

I've taken to naming any custom hoods Sedona (I usually only play one custom neighborhood at a time, deleting the hood when I get bored with it), ever since I've found out I can get those camera flyby movements in custom neighborhoods just by giving the hood a certain name. Before, I just used Moontown. I'm not sure where I've got that name from, though, other than that I do tend to populate my hoods with supernatural creatures.

I have a few some based of novels and some completely made up. Hogesmeade+Hogwartz which i never did finish i also made Privet drive lol. Most of the names i create for neighbourhoods aren't that clever i mean i couldn't think of anything and called a neighbourhood adventure land rofl but i did call one something like BerneVille or ooh maybe even barrymoore lol
Since im going to be creating a place of horror and i don't want to call it the land of the living dead i might name it after a phobia xD
Achluo-fear of darkness ^^ omg Achluo Aglio sounds like a spell from harrypotter. I guess if i was making a desert place of dead people i'd call it Destination or End of the road xD lol
 Nooo! maybe even raccoon city from resident evil

I usually have my rich sims in their mannors high up in the hills townie city sims in the middle and poor sims just outside the city sims. And beach areas near the beach although ive never done beach lots but that is how i'd have it =]
And community lots spread around in available spaces.

Believe it or not, I actually created custom neighborhoods (now deleted) under "Area 51" and "Elsewhere". I think it'd be cool to create one under an actual city on Earth, especially a major world one (ex. New York City, Sydney, Shanghai, Los Angeles).

Yeah i wanted to create New york and place aload of celebs i found on the internet but it was so hard i gave up. I do love fantasy ones' though or victorian neighbourhoods. I made a medival one once built a castle which took months it was like one of those proper castles not fairy castles. Had a queens room and everything and then my game crashed and i lost it :(
I made a fantasy disney based one aswell with cinderella in it and another with rugratz xD yep. I love strange town now but i use it as a desert based area rather than a strange place

I have never *played* any of the EA/Maxis default neighborhoods, but I haven`t deleted them, either. I have *loaded* one or two, though, just to snoop around, or because I needed to load SOMEthing in order for the game to let me into the built-in browser.
Immediately upon installing Double Deluxe, about a year ago, I created my first custom `hood from the "Crystal Springs" template, and named it Crystal Springs. I know, very original. :) I then created a teen named Lisa First, but the game wouldn`t let me exit CAS without an adult in the family, so I made her mother, Shawna First. For a long time this was the ONLY family in my neighborhood, except for Townies. Shawna, a Romance Sim, seduced her mailman and got him to move in. HE married another Townie, as did Shawna, so I have TWO families living on that first lot. Thanks to the Green Goo of Life, they STILL live there. After a while, I added a custom Downtown from the "Sample" template, and eventually named it "Uptown". It is still nearly empty, and has no residential lots. I later added the standard Downtown, and kept the default name of "Downtown". Somewhere about this time, I started actively recruiting Townies for player-characters, and also created a few more CAS sims with custom non-genetic skins. All of the expensive houses in Downtown are occupied, none of the inexpensive ones are [but all HAVE BEEN, and are thus now UNfurnished], and most of the residential lots in Crystal Springs itself are occupied. [I`m in desperate need of MID-range prebuilt houses....]
As I installed the various expansion packs [notably University and Bon Voyage], I installed the standard sub-`hoods that came with them into Crystal Springs with their default names. ALL of them, all three University campuses and all three vacation destinations. I have not yet installed any aditional custom sub-`hoods, nor have I installed Open for Business yet at this writing, though I will in about a week or so, and intend to install whatever default business district it may come with, if any.
In addition to Crystal Springs, I have several other custom `hoods, none of which have any sub-`hoods, and whose use is [or should be] obvious from their names:
* Testing Neighborhood, also based on the Sample template
* Lot Bin, based on the Grid City template downloaded from MTS2
* Beach Lot Testing Neighborhoo (I think the "d" got cut off by string-length limits when I created the `hood, or I could just be misremembering it), based on a template suitable for creating at least one beach lot and at least one non-beach lot, both lots facing the same direction, and never entered.
The last two neighborhoods have NO Sims in them whatsoever, save those that I was unable to prevent the game from generating automaticaly.
Edit: I misremembered the neighborhood name. :) It`s "Testing Neighborhood" that has the "d" cut off, and then only by the display, not by string-length limits.

Every time I have ever used the sims 2, I always had a neighborhood called TheNinthWave where I do all my testing and picture taking and some playing once in a blue moon. The description of TheNinthWave is: "This is my neighborhood" it's on a driftwood template, which I always used that one even before I had a TheNinthWave neighborhood. I just like the flatness of it and you can place a lot of lots there. I've done several countless uninstalls and reinstalls of the entire sims 2 and all EPs and SPs I have as well as a few system recoveries, but I always make sure to make a custom neighborhood called TheNinthWave and describe it as "This is my neighborhood" on driftwood. I sometimes keep the Maxis neighborhoods but never use them. Only time I used a Maxis neighborhood was to take some pics for an upload.

My neighbourhood is known as Seafarer's Cove, mainly because the neighbour terrain is one of the three four corners terrains (Sadly, there is no available terrain of Bitville.) and the fact the community lots have a sort of "Beachside feel".

Moved all families and inhabited lots from the three default 'hoods into one gigantic 'hood, deleted the default ones, and named it Blue Lakes. Added about 190 original Sims, in 70 or so households, to the 'Lakes, and added a large shopping district to it. I have two Downtown subhoods: Liberty Shores, with seven houses; Las Virtudes, with casinos and wedding chapels and a ton of shady motels and mansions, as well as a ton of apartments. And, of course, the single, default Shopping District, Bluewater Village, remains intact.
Among the famous, downloaded faces are:
Oprah Winfrey, who lives in the largest, most modern LV mansion, Tivouse.
Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, living together in Phaenoh's Redneck Mansion, which I have partitioned into apartments.
And, of course, the cast of Desperate Housewives, each in their own home, decorated in perfect sync with the show.
Also, as a whole, there are: 13 Vampires, 9 Female, 4 Male; 19 Werewolves; 22 Evil Witches and 15 Good Witches.

I just recently started playing Sims 2 on an ongoing basis, so my first (and only) custom hood is named after the town I live in, McDonough.
I'd like to do one based on a sci-fi novel I am writing, but unless I can get some character meshes made (or learn how to do it myself), I doubt I'll bother. I think it would be cool to make a Sim movie based on it.

I used to play the premade hoods, but only because I s*cked big time at making... well, anything.
After I got a few EPs and SPs, I decided it's time to try and make a hood of my own. I had anything, from Simville and Simtropolis (not very successful ones) to City 17(part of a failed project for HL2 style lots).
As of... I don't know, a week or two, I have a hood called "Kingdom of Sim" (might rename it to Simtonnia, but not so sure). And it's just what the name says. A kingdom, with a few subhoods as farmlands, harbor etc. It contains several lots I'm working on: ruined Elven cathedral, 2 peasant homes and a fortified landlord farm.
Oh, and I deleted the premade hoods.

I use what I think are simlish-sounding names for all my sims, lots, neighborhoods, and sub-neighborhoods. Modishay Vanu got lost in an upgrade, so now all my new sims live in Vastu Glarn. The young adults all attend Kobovidu State. They shop at Grodayascha Commons, and work out at Frobischer Gym. If they think they can get away with it, they'll sneak out for some woo-hoo at the Badagron Motel. Coming up with names is part of the fun for me with this game.

I'm not very creative with neighborhood names. My first custom neighborhood was just called "The neighborhood." I had to stop playing it shortly after I got Apartment Life because of Inteenimater.
I've recently started over again with neighborhoods called "Moon Islands" (my legacy 'hood, using the SC4 map of the same name) and "Castle Hill" (actually a sub-hood of himawara106's Golden Creek, it's named after an old white castle on the hill currently owned by my Organization XIII sims). I also used to have a 'hood named "Radiant Garden" that housed my FF8 sims, but I stopped playing it.
I do however like to give stories to my neighborhoods. The Moon Islands, according to its own local legend, gets its name from the local werewolf population. In Castle Hill I'm currently creating an Organization XIII soap opera.

i just kinda name them something that matches my exparament at the moment, for instance, the sunworshipping cult neighborhood is called sunnidale, or sunnivale, some such thing. it's names for sims i have a hard time with, i have alot of bobs, dudes, guy is a big fave of mine. for womin folk i call them shiela, babygirl, or i'll get all silly with their last name. i made a wifeysue knewby as the mom for a "family tree" challenge bastardisation i'm toying with for my own joy.
i have another sim who's name is frybaby freakshow, cause she lives in the cult neighborhood, but she's pale. i plan on making one of her kids like vamps so she can be ostrascized by everyone. everyone else hates them...

But I do have a custom subhood in Belladonna =) I asked my friend to come up with something that would compliment the original hood's name, so after awhile he threw out "Carinasera"... He said it meant 'Lovely Evening', but when I googled it, it sounds like "Cute Evening" (maybe he looked through an Italian thesaraus or something) but I had already entered it, so I guess I'm stuck? lol Next time I'll think of a name myself.

The first one is called 'El Paso' and was supposed to be inspired to the original city in Texas, but I never finished the project :| Then I have 'Photohood', which was created just to have some sceneries to take pictures of my sim creations, especially celebrities. :P The last one is 'Driftwoods', named after the neighborhood template, 'cos I really ran out of fantasy XD it's the first neighborhood I ever built in its entirety and it turned out pretty nice. Since I didn't really know how to name streets and community lots, I ended up using names from songs and movies I like :jest:

I did that for my pet project, Loch Namara. The town name was completely random, but then I had themes for each of the mini-neighbourhoods in the town:
1. Lower-class area: had female names for streets, ala Isabella Crescent, Tracy Drive, etc.
2. Middle-class area: had nobility titles for streets, ala King Street, Marquis Cove, etc.
3. High-class area: streets were all named after Shakespeare plays, ala Merchant of Venice Boulevard, Othello Avenue, etc.

CLockwork apple love the name by the way it caught my eye i love the original orange LMAO.
any way my custom hood is named after me in a way KitsTillSprings I have recreated this hood with three different templets about five times after computer crashes thefts and uberhood experimentation. I finally downloaded a map that I honestly love not to big or small. I basically moved all six hods into this one playable sims only and created my 7 rich sim familys each with focus in a sector of work.
1. school- Freshoph Junsen and family Owner/founders of Freshoph Junsen university and the current back of Kitstillsprings Michael Landgraab was made their cousin he was named the mayor since he is so good with real estate.
I also made Francis worthington a cousin as well he is in charge of the liquor store and landry mat. the own and operate the pre-school elementary and high schools as well.
2. Resturaunts- Vieneda family has their own farm and serves international food since they are from the middle east
3. Mystical wares-the Majik Family is an offshoot of my own personal family anything magickal they have thier hand in it lol.
4. Natural food and grocery- the McAfees rule this avenue the vieneda's actually pay their mortgage on the farm to the Mcafee's
5. Construction-The Alden build everything so to speak Four of the family members are city planners. and they own the real estate offices and are paid for their job placement services. basically they are the business tycoons too rivals to the landgrabs
6. Real estate- The contender i couldn't resist and the debateau families were joined and just because of the contender name and debateau money i decided to make them own a piece of everything this is my legacy family that vacations most of the year and manages about ten different community lots. If someone wants a fashion shop or a flower shop it just might be one of their fanchises.
7. entertainment-you need a band or a magician at a party call the Chesterlings they konw someone, own someone, or raised someone for the job.
8. i forgot i just created the perfect family literaly that is their name Juan and Juanita Perfect are plantsim witches. I created them to do home based business experiment fishing sewing painting gardening, potions witchey wares and regents and writing novels and articles
I have a sub hood of Flashing Meadows where my plant sims live and a shopping hood that is called colleio shopeio. this is the only hood that has a liquor store. and laundry mat. i don't know what i was thinking with that one but i can't think of anything else and it always makes me smile.
I have a uber rich family the junsen's (they act as the bankon most transactions) inspired by my college hood Freshoph Junsen University this university has no dorms all the students have to be able to afford their own place to go to school here. I originally wanted it to be just for my students pursuing their masters degree but then i just decided my rich sims only would be better suited. i kept the three original colleges and sent my aliens and plantsims to La fiesta tech my under achievers to sims state it has a 85% drop out rate LOL and my over achieving middle classers go to acedme le tour.

I like to take common words and put it them in Spanish or French to make them sound more exotic. Nueva Verde was the first of many I did along this theme. I've lived in several towns that had names like that ... Villa Rica and Punta Gorda for example. In English those names wouldn't be so great.
thank goodness for foreign languages that last one is pretty harsh but funny you must have been mad that dayLMAO

After hearing a song by this title on the radio, I am seriously considering adding a new sub-`hood named Funky Town to the world of Crystal Springs. I plan on placing all of my weirdest downloaded lots there, and populating it with most of my odder Sims.I have begun work on this, only it is "Funkytown", one word, not "Funky Town", two words. I made it as a Downtown `hood, not as a Shopping District `hood, and I used the funkiest-looking map I could find, with round plateaus at varying heights. I don`t have many families living there yet, but there are a few, including a pair of female Pleasure/Family Vampyres who are building a cliff-side castle-esque building mostly from funds from the Gamer career reward and a Money Tree [they`ll probably get more Money Trees, though, as Vampyres don`t need the Green Goo of Life. :)] I also have "A Different Kind of Home" there [occupied by the family that owns the bakery in OfB] and the Gingerbread House. More *will* follow, although details will not appear in *this* thread. :D I also haven`t done much in the way of neighborhood decorations yet, but I placed a very nice waterfall at one edge of the map over the weekend, as well as a few birds, airplanes, and other animated effects, including Musical Notes arising from A Different Kind of Home.

I recently remembered the name of a rather unique place: Destruction Bay-it's in the NW Territories of Canada.
From the Wiki:
Destruction Bay is a small community on the Alaska Highway (historical mile 1083) in Canada's Yukon on Kluane Lake. Population in 2001 according to the Census was 43. The Yukon Government's Bureau of Statistics estimated the population at 59 in June 2005. Populated mostly by non-aboriginal residents, community residents provide Yukon government services to residents in the area (school, highway maintenance), including nearby Burwash Landing and some tourism-related businesses along the Alaska Highway. The name is derived from the wind blowing down structures erected by the military during highway construction in 1942-43. The one-room school currently has 10 students in grades K to 8.
I've been through there, and so I renamed my oldest hood after it. Appropriate, too-everyone is on a destructive path!

I have 3 custom neighborhoods, though I only play one consistently. One is called Manorvale and it's got a story going on that will probably last for a few generations. I play it in rotation all the time. Another is one called Sedona, just a test neighborhood where I plonk in my legacies (I'm on generation 1....yay! D: ). Third is called Pleasantf***ed... it's basically Pleasantview, but everyone is the opposite gender and has names like Donna Lothario, Dino and Niño Caliente and Caleb Langerak, that kinda stuff :B I hardly play Pleasantf'ed though, only when I'm uber-bored of Manorvale or Veronaville.

Riverblossom Hills 'cos that's what the terrain was named.
Townville, because it's really just easier than coming up with something.
My main is called Sexy Island. It's from a song by Morning Musume called "Iroppoi Jirettai." I recreated all my neighborhoods 'cos my game failwhaled on me, and I was like "...what do I name this place."
I had "Iroppoi Jirettai" in my head, so I was like ATSUI KODOU NI...SEXY ISLAND.

Eutopian Vale just started this one so not much to report there
KittyKat Cove is a fairytale hood for my neice with fairies, witches, castles and a few seaside comunity lots for her sims to go to at the weekend. This was the most fun to build and gave me immense joy when I saw how excited my neice got when one of her sims was able to adopt a cat it was absolutely adorable. Of course she never plays unsupervised and when a "mummy and daddy want a baby they have to phone the doctor" (read adoption service.)

I thought I was going to be stuck with the name of the terrain I used for my current custom hood because I forgot how to change the name of a subhood. It's too easy to forget how to do some stuff in the sims if you don't do it too often. Every time I want a new clean neighborhood, I have to read the instructions a few times before I start.
Anyhow, the name for my new neighborhood is now Ora di Sognare Island. I think it is better than using Crescent Island forever.

I have a small city called Tornstad (city of towers, because many buildings there do have little towers , I like this detail of architecture), here I try to stick to realism (I have a vampyre and am going to make an evil warlock, though, so there will be a portion of dark mystery and magic here too)
I have also made a small island called Lilleholm, a place for all kinds of weird and supernatural sims, a bit like Strangetown, but I am not going to focus on aliens so much. There will be verevolves, vampyres, witches and warlocks, and maybe even plantsims (I do not like them but I don't mind having one in my game). I created this isle just because I was a bit bored of playing in a realistic way.

Erm, no. The French word for ginger is "gingembre," and the word "gingé" doesn't exist. You should make the mascot a ginger, as in a redhead, not the herb.
I don't really make worlds that often, mainly because I hate building things. I began making a desert world called La Canela, but I scrapped it. I named it after a the legendary city of spices that the Spanish conquistadores looked for along with El Dorado.

Do it the way real life subdivision developers do it. Make two random charts. For the first, use positive adjectives some random nouns and verbs that sound all new and pretty; i.e. Beautiful, Tasty, Vibrant, Flower, Whisper, Dawn, Sibilant, Mountain, Vista, Rainbow, Ocean, Forest. For the second, use nouns evocative of places (preferably but not necessarily ones with solid ground underneath); i.e. Mountain, Valley, Acres, Heights, District,Ridge, Meadows, Hills. Roll once on each chart and take the result. So you might have Sibilant Valley, Ocean Acres, Rainbow Vista, etc.
If you're a stickler, you can limit your chart to terms appropriate to the terrain you've chosen, but a quick look at any map of an area undergoing urban sprawl will disabuse you of the notion that this is in any way necessary.
To truly capture the subdivision experience, you should build with no more than four different floor plans, tweaking only details, and have lots of cul-de-sacs with nearly identical names, the first one being the first half of your neighborhood name and the second half coming off a standard list of floral, faunal, and place nouns. So Ocean Acres (which has no beachfront lots) would have streets named Ocean Lane, Ocean Ridge, Ocean Rose, Ocean Fawn, etc. But that might be taking the theme a bit too far (and besides you have hardly any dinky confusing cul-de-sacs on your average sims neighborhood - an oversight, I'm sure).

My main hood is called Little Carping. I chose the name after a discussion with an online friend about place names and absolutely loved the name of a village she had visited called Bicker. I thought that was perfect but didn't want to use her name so came up with one of my own. The name describes the tenor of the place. Nearby there is Carping Magna, a market town (shopping district) and Sirencester (downtown) which lures many of my young sims into dissolute lives (again, hence the name).

Mwwaahahaha!
Other great names for hoods that I've had: one of my favourites was Wit's End, (which is kind of along the lines of Little Carping and Whingemore!), Maplewood, Plumbridge (after the plumbob), Holly Hill, Beacon Cove, Pebble Beach, and Merridale are some names I have used and liked a lot! Oh my god! The names of neighborhoods can be some of the hardest things for me. X_X (along with sim names, especially last) I do have 2 right now though and they are named Clearwater and Cresciuto
Clearwater is my legacy neighborhood but I am taking a break from my legacy ... for now. The only reason that I came up with such a decent name was because I was thinking about a school around my area named Clearspring and so Clearwater was born!
Cresciuto is Italian for Grown because this is for my story in progress that focuses on the way that sims grow up thus the name.
I love some of the names that people have posted on here. Much better than the ideas my brain can come up with.

My one and only custom 'hood is currently called Brewsters Cove. I've recently imported a new terrain, roads, trees, etc. with a mod I found on here (name escapes me at the moment), so the Brewsters Cove name doesn't fit anymore. Is there any way to change the name? I renamed all my community and residential lots to include the name Lake St. Charles, since the new terrain has a beatiful lake in it. How can I change the name of the 'hood to Lake St. Charles without recreating a whole new 'hood?

I recently made a neighborhood for my apocalypse challenge. Since the challenge is supposed to take place in a nuclear fallout zone, and I recently read The Hunger Games, I called the neighborhood District 13.
My BACC takes place in a neighborhood called Syracuse. It's an ancient, respectable name for a city. Also, it was college basketball season when I created it, which is probably why the name "Syracuse" was on my mind. Every street in the main hood is named after a different Big East school.

Well, you could simply change cute names to a different language, using an online translator. Even if the translation isn't perfect - I personally don't think it has to be perfect for a fictional place.
Apple Meadow (Italian) = Mela di Prato
Blossom City (Italian) = Citta Fiore/Fiore Citta
I guess if your native language is Italian, you would want to use something else. I am currently kind of addicted to using mostly Italian for place and sim names. But sometimes I mix in a bit of Russian or German. I prefer using names I can pronounce or words I can easily modify to make it pronounceable. Sometimes I even hack words and names so they are spelled out phonetically to come up with different/unique/offspring names. Especially if a different pronunciation or spelling seems to fit a sim, or fit with the family name better.
I agree that cute names will not make adding drama easy, but it is not impossible. Therefore a challenge. Think of some of the names of some popular shows like Desperate Housewives. It takes place in Wisteria Lane which doesn't sound gloomy or filled with appalling drama to me. But it is more about how you write in the drama and twist the labels and assumptions, than the name of where the drama takes place. That is conflict as much as Transylvania would not be the name one would think of when thinking about a comedy - although to do so would of course be an interesting hook. After all, a book can't be judged by the cover.
Also, if I hear or read words/names that I like, I jot them down to look over when I need them. The family I am currently playing just had a baby and knowing that the family will have several more brats because I am doing the (Good Genes Challenge IV (http://www.digitalperversion.net/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=23185.0) at GoS), I already have a list of names to pick from, based solely on what the parents and first child looked like. Using adjectives is a favorite of mine because I don't have to think as much about which translations to use and I can also use a thesaurus. All the names are words that are translated into different languages or subject to phonetic manipulation. I mention sim names simply because the same methods can be applied to house names, street names, 'hood names, family names, first names, etc.
One of my 'hood names is Ora di Sognare. Know what it means?

Maybe "Time to dream"¨?
I'm spanish, so these words sound really close to my language (I would say it "hora de soñar").
I'll try what you say.

Reefton, Coralworth, Troutsdale, Sharkson, Eelmouth, Portsville, Lighthouse Cliff.
These names fit perfectly with a 'hood which has quite a few beachlots, and a fisherman themed story.
