Midnight (Chapter Three part one up)

“Here we are,“ Richard, Tammara’s new step-dad, announced as the family set their bags down and looked at the house they were now standing in. Tammara looked around the strange house. This was going to have to be home now? She didn’t like the look of it at all. It felt … off.

“Well,” Joyce said, bouncing the baby on her hip, “It will look nice once we get the furniture in. Right Tammara?”
“Sure mom,” Tammara replied just to appease her mother. She didn’t think it would ever look nice.
“This will be a wonderful place to raise our new little Bella,” Richard stated. He then leaned over and kissed two year old Bella on the head. Rolling her eyes Tammara stalked off upstairs.

Having already been told that she would have to take the attic room, Tammara made her way all the way to the top of the house. Emerging from the stairs she looked around. The attic was dilapidated and old. Up here it felt cold and creepy. Feeling like she was being watched she went back downstairs.

As she made her way back downstairs she noticed by the boxes that the movers had arrived. She didn’t get time to even offer her help before Richard said, “Do you really have to go traipsing about in that whore dress?”

“Not that it’s your business what I wear Richard, but why do you even care?” Tammara asked.

“I don’t want you influencing Bella to dress like a slut.”

“Good grief. Bella is two years old. Why don‘t you just leave me alone about my clothes. I can wear whatever I want. I‘m not even a teenager anymore.”

Knowing that an angry retort would be coming and not wanting to deal with it Tammara moved pass Richard. “I’m going for a walk,” she snapped and left the house.

Tammara wandered. Her black, blood red streaked hair swishing as she walked. She knew she would probably get lost and that it was getting late but she didn’t care. A short while after sundown she stopped. Before here was a playground.

She was absolutely delighted as she spotted the swing set. It was just what she needed right now. A good mind numbing swing.

Like a little girl she rushed to the swing. Her blue eyes sparkling she hopped onto the swing and took off.

It was not long into the swing that three men came up to her and started to circle. Like sharks that started a fair distance off, then circled in closer and closer. At first Tammara did not see them.

Gasping in shock Tammara came to a hurried stop. She had almost kicked the man in front of her. Surprise rushed through her as she wondered where the men had suddenly appeared from. “Hey sweet thing,” the man in a jean jacket said, “come back to my place and we’ll get it down, if you know what I mean.”

Tammara gave a snort of disgust. “I know what you mean, idiot, and the answer is no!”

Jean Jacket made a grab for her. Barely avoiding him she realized what a bad situation she was in. Hoping that she could outrun him, she took off full tilt.

As she ran the men were suddenly right next to her. Her mind reeled with the quickness of their movement. One of them stuck out their foot and then she was falling. Her shoulder hit the sand, she rolled, and landed on her back.

The three men broke out laughing. Taking the opportunity Tammara jumped back onto her feet. Before she could go anywhere her wrist was grabbed and she was flipped to face Jean Jacket. “This is for calling me an idiot.” He pulled back his fist and threw it straight at her.

In a flash Tammara found herself back on the ground. Looking up she saw a tall, pale, man standing right where she had been. Her hear fluttered as she watched Jean Jackets fist landing against his crossed arms. Her savior didn’t even flinch. He just frowned and then spat, “Leave her alone.”

The three men disappeared in an instant. Blinking she realized that her savior had turned to her and was asking if she was alright. “Uh, yeah,” she answered. Climbing to her feet she said breathlessly, “I don’t know who you are but thanks.”

“I wouldn’t be thanking me yet, beauty,” he said in a lilting voice. Before she could ask what he meant he raised his hands. A strange blue light came surrounded her and she found herself feeling dizzy. She tried to move but couldn’t.

The man grabbed her around the waist and pulled her close. In horror Tammara realized that her savior had become her attacker. Her heart began to race and adrenaline coursed through her veins. However much she struggled though, she could not move her feet.

She was dipped low by the man. He whispered in her ear, “You are the most tantalizing thing I have ever smelt.” His lips pressed to her neck. Two pinpricks of pain blossomed on her neck. She felt her pulse race and could smell her own blood. In terror she felt her blood rush from her, could hear the sound of her blood being sucked up. It seemed to go on for hours. Finally as she felt she couldn’t take it any longer she began to become dizzy and then everything went black.

Derreck watched her as she slept. He had no idea who she was or where she was from. She was new though. He could tell that. He had never smelt her before and he knew every smell there was that ever had even passed through his territory. And practically everyone had passed through his territory at one point or another.

He studied her as she slept. In his mind he traced every angle and curve of her face. His eyes roamed her body, taking in every delicate part of her. Licking his lips he remembered the taste of her blood from last night. It was for certain the most wonderful thing he had ever tasted in his long life.

While he was debating with himself on weather to reach out and touch her cheek she began to stir. She sat up, total confusion written across her face. “What, where am I? What hap…” she stopped in mid sentence.

Pure anger entered her face. “You…you bit me!” she snapped

“Well,” Derreck said, “that is putting it a little lightly.”

“Wait, where am I? Did, are … you … what I … I think you are?”

“If you’re thinking that I’m a vampire then you are quite right. As for where you are. You’re at my castle, in my room’s.”

“What! So you like what, feed from me and then brought me home so you could sleep with me. Or did you just rape me while I was asleep.”
“I did nothing of the sort. You passed out so I brought you here to keep you safe.”

She scoffed as she stood up. Crossing her arms she said, “Protection from what exactly? I’ve already been assaulted and violated by you.”
“I did nothing of the sort.”
“You…” she spluttered. “I suppose I can’t leave here.”
“Quite the contrary. You can leave whenever you wish to.”

“Good,” she shouted at him and then stalked out of the room. Derreck closed his eyes and listened to the sounds of her heartbeat. He tracked her as she wandered through the castle and then found her way out. He sighed. Clearly he had done something terribly wrong, though he wasn’t certain what it was.

Hours later and quick talk with a police officer Tammara found her way back to the new house. She couldn’t call this place home. It was nothing like home. Home spoke of warmth and comfort. This house seemed to only feel loss in it. Sighing Tammara looked around and thought that every one must be busy unpacking upstairs. The downstairs was completely empty, but that was because they were going to go shopping for new furniture. With Richards new job they could supposedly afford it now and so had gotten rid of a lot of their old furniture.

Giving another sigh Tammara slumped towards the kitchen. Hopefully her mom had gone shopping. She felt terrible and very hungry. As she was moving towards the kitchen something caught her attention out of the corner of her eye.

Turning she stepped back in utter shock. She blinked trying to take in what she was seeing. It looked like the wall was bleeding.

She was about to move closer but footsteps sounded on the stairs and the blood disappeared in an instant as though it had never been there.

Richard appeared from the stairs. Closing her eyes Tammara prepared for the onslaught. “Where were you young lady? You were gone all night. You haven’t even slept in your own bed.”

Covering her ears she tried to keep out the onslaught. “You are being completely irresponsible. How do you think this will affect Bella?” Richard continued. Having heard the yelling Joyce had rushed downstairs and now looked on with worry.

Unable to take it anymore Tammara turned to him. “God, would you stop it with how it will affect Bella. She’s two. Can’t you get that through your head. She’s two years old. I doubt that anything I do affects her.”
“Don’t you talk like that to me Tammara Drean.”

“Oh God. Don’t you talk to me like that. You are not my dad and I am not a child,” Tammara screamed.
Joyce gasped.
“I don‘t care how old you are as long as you are living in my house you will obey my rules and treat me respectfully. There will be no more all niters out with God knows who,” Richard yelled back.

“You are such a tyrant,” Tammara screamed. Running up stairs she passed her mom but barely gave her a glance.

Tammara rushed upstairs to her attic bedroom. She couldn’t believe Richard. Her mom had never placed a curfew on her but Richard had come in and just taken things over. She had never really wanted her mom to get re-married. Bella had been an unwelcome surprise and Tammara was getting tired of always hearing about her.

Her anger spent in venting at herself Tammara took a look around. At least her bed and old dresser had been brought up. She sat down on the floor leaning against the bed. Sighing she tried to keep herself from shaking. Her mind rushed through the events that had happened since they had gotten here.
Nothing had gone right. Especially not the fact that a … vampire, could that even be possible? Yes, she couldn’t deny what had happened. She had felt it, experienced it, and now she couldn’t deny that there were such things. So she had been feed from by a vampire. Then there was the strange blood on the wall. Had she been imagining it? If there were things such as vampires though were there such things as ghosts and the supernatural?

Hearing footsteps on the stairs Tammara took a deep breath, quailing her shaking. Keeping her head down she heard footsteps that could only be her mothers approach her. Joyce sat down next to her daughter. “Tammara, honey, that wasn’t very respectful of you.”

“I don’t really care,” Tammara said, looking away from her mom. “He’s not my father and I hate how he tries to control me.”
Joyce sighed. “He’s not trying to control you, it’s just … he cares about you.”
“Well he has a funny way of showing it.”

“Sweetie I know this has all been hard for you. You and Richard really haven’t gotten along these past couple of years. This is a chance at a new beginning though. We have a new house, a new neighborhood, a whole new chance to do things differently. I would really like it if you and Richard could at least try to get along.”
Tammara sighed, “I guess I could try.”
“That’s my girl. Now why don’t we see what we could do with this attic of yours. I know it’s not much now but it’s big. What do you say to us buying you some new things for up here?”

“Really, that would be great. We could make it like my own living space. Right?”

“Almost like your own little apartment. Exactly! We can get you a couch and table and make it your own little place.”
“And we could get some rugs to cover up the floor,” Tammara paused for a moment in her excitement, “Are you sure mom, I mean, all the money it would cost…”
“I’m sure honey. We can afford it now that Richard has his new job. However, I think we should start with a new outfit. Any type of outfit you want. What do you say?”
“I’d love that mom!”

“Great, we’ll go shopping for clothes tomorrow.”
They both stood up and Tammara hugged her mom saying, “Thanks.”
“No worries dear.” Smiling Joyce left. Tammara feeling a bit better started to unpack. Her mind however refused to stop thinking about the vampire.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they reinvent that space. Personally I'd love to have my own big area like that! But an attic sounds creepy (we don't really have them here)

The next morning Joyce and Tammara went to the nearest clothing store, a place called the Rain Forest Boutique. As they stepped out of the car both of them were stunned. They had never seen anything like this boutique. It was all above ground and there were all sorts of plants on the roof.

Entering the boutique they were greeted by a green skinned, leaf clad, woman. Tammara was a little startled though she noticed her mom didn’t seem to be phased. “Welcome to the Rain Forest Boutique,” the leaf clad lady said, “I’m Lalia.”
“Oh, wow,” Lalia said turning to Tammara. “I love your dress.”

“Thanks,” Tammara said a little embarrassed. Back home she would have never been completed on her gothic type clothing. Everything there was very prim and proper and because of that Tammara had had very few acquaintances much less friends. She had always been the odd one out.

“Well, this is great,” Joyce exclaimed. “You’ll probably know what type of clothes Tammara would like to look at. I have no idea when it comes to her what she would like.”

“Totally. Let me show you some of the stuff that we do have that you might like.” Lalia turned and started showing them around.

Several outfits later Tammara stood in front of her mom modeling a red skirt and shirt. “Mom, this is perfect. I absolutely love it.”
“Well,” Joyce said. “If you really think it’s what you want.”

“Oh,” Lalia jumped in, “I think it’s the best one so far. It definitely suits you.”
“Please mom,” Tammara almost begged. It was so rarely her mom bought her clothes she liked.
“Alright,” Joyce gave in. “It’s your’s.”

As they were checking out Lalia said, “You know, I just remembered, there’s a killer party going down tonight. You would look spectacular in your new outfit at it, would you like to go?”

“I’d love to.” Tammara said,
“Great, I can take you, just let me know your address and I’ll pick you up.”
Tammara gave Lalia her address and name.
“Oh, wow,” Lalia said. “You’re my new next door neighbors. Well, it’s great to meet you. I’ll see you at ten then Tammara.”
“Man, that’s a coincidence for you,” Tammara replied in surprise. “Okay, I’ll see you at ten. I can’t wait.” Her spirits high Tammara and Joyce left the shop and made their way home.
