Follow along with newlyweds Matthew and Lauren as they travel to new places, discover happiness, trials and tribulations. Watch as their lives unfold and what new and down-right bizzare things happen to the couple after moving into the small country house on Green Hill.

It was only a matter of days that had passed between the young couple saying “I do” and moving to a new home in a new town. Newlyweds Matthew and Lauren were excited to start a life of their very own in the small town of Lanville. They fell in love with a little, yellow house perched atop Green Hill in the small town, so the two purchased it the day after they were married.

Lauren smiled to herself as she thought about all of the great memories that were yet to be made in this little house. The two fell into each other’s arms as they gazed lightly upon their home, still in awe of the recent celebrations of their new life together.

Matthew and Lauren fell into their routine easily. Matthew was fresh out of college and looking for a steady job in their new neighborhood, and Lauren was planning on taking a volunteer position somewhere in the town. The couple’s mornings were usually spent half cooking breakfast and half snuggling and smooching right there in the kitchen.

Matthew decided that it was time for him to crack down and get a job. He read through the paper and found a couple of good leads. Moving from a large city to a small town, like Matthew and Lauren had done, was a little frightening considering the two had no idea how the job market was here in Lanville.

But after some research, Matthew came across two different law firms in the town that seemed as though they needed some extra help. So with a light kiss and a ‘good luck,’ Matthew smiled at his wife and made his way into town for his interview.

“Lauren?!” Matthew called out to his wife from the front porch.

Just as Lauren stepped into the living room, she saw Matthew rush through the door with a smile on his face and his arms wide open.

“I got a job!” He said excitedly.

Lauren’s face brightened as a smile flew across her lips. She ran up to her husband and gave him a big hug. She was so proud of him!

“That’s wonderful, sweetheart! What’s the job?” Lauren asked.

“It’s just an entry-level position, but I can see myself climbing in the company pretty quickly,” Matthew told his wife. “I will be working under the CEO of Gold Law doing paralegal type things.”

“So…” Lauren started, “…how is the pay?”

“It’s really good,” Matthew smiled.

Lauren was so excited that the two were on the road to success; maybe slowly at first, but that didn’t matter to her. As long as she was with the man she loved, nothing else mattered.

“Well congratulations, sweetie.”

“Thanks babe,” Matthew smiled as his wife before taking her in his arms.

The young couple spent the rest of the afternoon in each other’s arms. Matthew’s mind was running a mile a minute thinking about his new job and all the opportunities it came with. Lauren was excited too about how many new things they would be able to buy, and what new things they could plan on in the months to come. They would finally have enough money to support the family they dreamed of.

“I’m going to bed,” Matthew said quietly.

Lauren smiled and looked up from her latest novel.

She quietly put her book away and followed Matthew into their bedroom. The two fell asleep together, both thinking about each other as they fell peacefully into dreamland.

“It was excellent doing business with you, Mr. Bloom. Please don’t hesitate to call me on my cell phone if you ever find yourself in need of legal help again. I’d love to have another opportunity to successfully represent you and your company.”

Matthew chuckled into the phone, said goodbye to his latest client and proceeded to get the rest of his business in order before he headed out for lunch. Business was booming for Matthew; he had recently been appointed partner to Mr. Gold himself and was making about 5 times the amount of money he was making when he started the job not six weeks ago.

Everything was happening so fast, and Matthew was feeling as though he was on top of the world. He hadn’t been this happy in a long time. The phone rang suddenly, and Matthew snatched it up worried that it was an important client. You can’t leave your clients waiting!

“Gold and Doyle Law, Matthew Doyle speaking.”

“Hi sweetie!”

“I was just about to leave, I had an appointment.”

“Ok, see you soon then.”

Matthew hung up the phone before he could respond and headed out of his office to meet his wife for lunch. The couple tried to meet weekly for lunch so they could catch up on everything since Matthew was so busy now. The two barely had enough time to talk before they headed to bed at night, so this was a nice standing date they set up with each other.

“Hi you,” Lauren said with a smile.

“Hey,” Matthew responded with a little kiss. “I had a phone appointment with Daniel Bloom that I had to finish.”

“It’s ok,” Lauren responded with a smile.

“I wasn’t asking forgiveness,” Matthew snapped.

Lauren’s smile faded and was replaced with a slightly hurt expression. Matthew sighed and looked down at his menu. Lauren cleared her throat lightly and proceeded to decide what she wanted to order for lunch.

Their lunch hour ticked away slowly, and the two spoke only when necessary. Lauren was nervous about Matthew’s little outburst and wondered what it was that she did to make him so upset. Matthew insisted that nothing was wrong and excused himself from the table.

“I have to get back to the office. I have a 2 o’clock appointment,” Matthew told Lauren.

“Alright. Have a nice rest of your day,” Lauren offered kindly.

Matthew barely heard her as he turned around quickly and started back to the office. Lauren’s cheeks flushed and her vision became blurry as she fought to keep back the tears she didn’t know why were there.

Lauren sat quietly on the couch, staring into the darkness. Dinner had been ready for about 10 minutes with no sign of Matthew yet. She sighed to herself and got up to set the table – probably for one. Matthew had been coming home later and later every evening due to his steady increase of clients over the last two weeks.

“Hey,” Matthew said as he walked in the door, disrupting Lauren’s train of thought.

“My evening meeting ran late tonight. I hope you weren’t waiting too long,” Matthew offered as he threw his coat and tie onto the nearby chair.

“I just took it out,” Lauren explained about dinner.

“It smells good,” Matthew said.

“I visited Mrs. Plumb, and she gave me some fresh produce from her garden,” Lauren said quietly.

Matthew smiled slightly as he nodded and found a seat next to Lauren at their tiny dining table. They served themselves and ate together in silence.

“Matt?” Lauren cautiously asked.

“Yeah,” Matthew answered nonchalantly.

“Is everything ok? With us, I mean…” Lauren asked timidly.

“It’s fine,” Matthew answered, as if nothing was wrong.

Lauren looked at her plate and tried not to cry. She knew something was wrong with Matthew that he suddenly started acting this way. It was like he didn’t even care about her anymore.

“I just…” Lauren started.

“What do you think about moving into a bigger house?” Matthew interrupted her.

“What?” Lauren asked, quite stunned at the proposal.

“I’m making so much money now, we can afford to move into something a little nicer. I mean, look at this place! It’s a dump,” Matthew spat out.

Lauren felt the tears brimming at her eyes and tried not to break down too much. She had spent weeks trying to make their little house into a cozy home.

“What’s your problem, Lauren?” Matthew wanted to know when he saw her crying.

“I’ve spent weeks trying to make this our home, and all you can worry about is making more money or getting more clients!” Lauren screamed between sobs.

Matthew’s jaw clenched as Lauren stormed away from the dining table, knocking over her chair in the process. Matthew sighed as Lauren slammed their bedroom door, and he finished his dinner alone.

It seems people get so indulged in their own happiness that they totally forgot about the one's they love in Matthew's case, I think that's what he's doing. Assuming that Lauren wants all this money, when instead she would like him to work but also spend some quality time, I do hope Matthew comes to a realisation that what he is doing is bringing more harm than good.

Matthew stretched and tried to rub out the knot in his neck from tossing and turning all night on the couch. The fight he and Lauren had last night wasn’t that bad, but for some reason she refused to unlock the bedroom door for Matthew.

He shrugged his aches and pains away and started to get ready for another busy day at the office. Matthew couldn’t help but hope that Lauren would calm down a little bit and start to see where he was coming from. He was making the big bucks now; it only made sense to Matthew to move up in the world.

Matthew took one, final glance in the mirror before heading to the office.

It was a beautiful day outside! The sun was shining, the birds were singing and there was a 50 dollar bill lying in the middle of the sidewalk. Wait… A 50 DOLLAR BILL?!

“I had no idea I would be working with someone so gorgeous.”

Matthew turned his head around to figure out where such an exquisite voice was coming from. When he saw the owner of the voice, his knees nearly gave out.

She was just about the most gorgeous woman Matthew had ever seen in his life. He swallowed loudly and tried to reclaim his composure before introducing himself.

“Mr. Doyle, I presume?” the woman asked, extending her hand. “My father has spoken very highly of you.”

Matthew extended his hand and shook the woman’s hand gently.

“Forgive me, but…” Matthew started, not knowing who the woman’s father was.

“Daniel Bloom,” the woman simply said.

Daniel Bloom was one of Matthew’s biggest (and richest) clients. He must have told his daughter to seek out his services after their latest transaction.

“I’m pleased to meet you, Victoria.”

“Oh,” Victoria smiled, “so my father HAS spoken of me.”

“On many occasions, yes.”

“Well, my father has spoken so greatly of you that I had to see for myself,” Victoria started. “He must have left out the details of your looks for a reason. You’re married?”

Somehow, Matthew thought she already knew the answer to her own question.

“I am,” Matthew answered.

The wedding ring sealed the deal. Victoria simply smiled and walked past Matthew and into his office. He took a deep breath and followed her.

“Now what can I help you with, Miss Bloom?” Matthew asked.

“Victoria please,” she answered. “I’m thinking about investing in some real estate.”

“Very good. Would you like to have a seat?” Matthew asked.

“Thank you,” Victoria purred as she sat across from him.

For the next hour, the two talked about everything she was planning. Matthew kept trying to push down this funny feeling he had and concentrate on the task at hand. He wiped the small sheen of perspiration off his forehead and double-checked the last addendum before filing it away.

“You should be set for today,” Matthew started. “Stop by next week, and we can have a look at the contract and go from there.”

“Thank you Mr. Doyle,” Victoria said slowly, “but I don’t think I can wait that long until I see you again.”

The feeling that Matthew had been trying to push away all day, exploded in his chest as he looked into Victoria’s eyes. The two came closer as if drawn together with a magnet. Matthew swallowed hard and leaned closer to Victoria.

Victoria and Matthew bid each other goodnight after steamy session of kissing, groping and whispering sweet nothings into each other’s ears. Matthew kissed his new love interest passionately and headed towards home.

With each step, Matthew became more and more uneasy. He knew what he and Victoria did was wrong and unfair to Lauren. Oh god, Lauren. How am I going to tell Lauren? I think… I think I’m in love with Victoria!

All this and more swirled around in Matthew’s head as he drew closer and closer to home. When he stepped onto the front lawn of his home, his gaze flew from the sidewalk to the two young teenagers talking under the big tree in the front yard. Matthew scrunched his eyebrows as he tried to understand why the teens were there – talking right under his tree.

After surveying the young couple for a few seconds, his glance towards his home turned into an all-out shocked beyond words stare as his eyes threatened to pop right out of his head.

His house was different! The paint was a different color, there were different shrubs around the porch, the porch railing was a different color and even the steps had been painted!

Matthew’s heartbeat was racing, and he started to panic as he realized that there was nothing the same about his home besides the actual shape and structure. He took in a shaky breath and stormed over to the young couple talking under his tree.

“What are you doing in my yard?!” Matthew screamed at them, before he could even think about what he was saying.

The young woman’s smile faded as she looked up at the screaming stranger.

“What, you can’t hear?! What the hell are you doing in my yard?!” Matthew screamed even louder than last time.

“What is going on out here?” A man’s voice called out from the front door.

Matthew’s eyes flew open as he saw a man standing in the doorway of his home. Lauren is cheating on me! IN MY OWN HOUSE! Matthew thought as he literally raced up the stairs to confront the man… or punch him out, whatever.

Matthew pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to calm himself a little before talking to the unenthused man.

“What do you think you’re doing in my house?” Matthew started out rather slowly. “Where is my wife?” He demanded.

The man in the doorway looked confused but tried to reason with Matthew.

“What is your name?” The man asked.

“Where is my wife?!” Matthew spat.

“Listen, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” the other man said.

“I’m about three seconds away from punching your face in, so tell me where the hell my wife is and get out of my house,” Matthew threatened.

“This is my house,” the man nearly yelled at Matthew.

“What do you mean this is ‘your’ house?” Matthew asked, still spitting fire.

“This is my house, that is my daughter and you have no right to be here or anywhere near my property,” the man snapped at Matthew.

Matthew’s face hardened, and he became even more angry and confused than before.

“Rachel, get in the house sweetie,” the man ordered his daughter.

Matthew glared at the young woman as she passed the two furious and equally confused men in the doorway. When the young woman was safely inside, the man turned his attention back to the stranger on his porch.

“I don’t know who you are or what you’re trying to tell me, but obviously you need to get the hell of my porch before I call the police,” the man said firmly.

Matthew didn’t know what to do or say, so he simply turned and walked down the front stairs. Matthew could almost feel the man’s scowl as he sighed quietly and started walking away from his… the house.

While Matthew was away not paying attention to his wife, she wrote to a home and garden program that features those people who make over your house in a few hours. What can I tell you ... they work fast!

At the exact same time, one of those spouse-swapping programs decided that Lauren was a perfect choice for their show. Problem was, she forgot to tell Matthew that he was swapped, and he was supposed to be in Strangetown with an alien named Cbbbbbbbbeg**ooo. The program just rented a couple of actors to play the kids. Gotta appeal to the family demographic, you know.

That must be it. :) Look forward to reading the real version.

Matthew didn’t know what happened. In the last two hours he seemed to have lost his entire life. He didn’t know how to sort through everything because nothing about it made any bit of sense!

There are people I don’t even know living in my house. Lauren is gone; I don’t even know where she is or if she is even… alive. Screw what happened with Victoria. I’d take it back in a second if I knew what would have resulted from it! Matthew tried to reason everything out.

Tears started to prick behind Matthew’s eyes as he hung his head in fatigue. What happened?

“What happened?” Matthew asked himself, his voice cracking mid-sentence.

~*~TWO WEEKS LATER~*~

Time wasn’t passing by quick enough for Matthew as he simply let the days tick on by. Two weeks ago Matthew had a wife, a booming career and great life. Now he was left with nothing. Absolutely nothing! He was sleeping in his office, people he didn’t even know were living in his home and he had no idea where his wife was.

Two weeks of living in his office was driving Matthew crazy. He decided to take a trip downtown one crisp, fall day. The walk was nice. It would have been nicer if Matthew didn’t hear “what happened-to my life, what happened-to my life, what happened-to my life” with every step of his thick boots on the sidewalk.

Matthew reached his favorite part of the strip and took a long look around. His eyes scaled the exterior of every building on the block. Something was different here too. Everything looked a little bit… older and weathered. As Matthew tried to reason out why the buildings looked different, something caught his eye.

Oh my gosh… Is that… Is it… Matthew’s eyes squinted as he tried to confirm the mystery woman who was walking into the neighborhood toy store. Matthew’s legs brought him up to the glass door of the toy store, and he peered in trying to see if his eyes were playing tricks on him or not.

“Laur…” Matthew whispered and trailed off as he tried to understand what was going on.

Matthew caught a glimpse of his lovely wife, Lauren, bending down to play with a little boy. His eyes darted back and forth from the little boy to his wife before he decided whether to open the door and confront her about everything that has been happening.

Suddenly, Matthew realized that Lauren was with a small boy. Of course he saw Lauren holding him earlier, but it didn’t quite click until now. Matthew’s brow furrowed slightly as he tried to figure out yet another mystery, and he slowly backed away from the glass door. Something was telling Matthew not to confront Lauren quite yet.

Matthew felt like he was losing his mind even more so now than he had felt the past few weeks. I don’t even know how this is possible! This stuff doesn’t happen in real life… Am I really going completely insane? Or am I in some alternate universe or something? ALIENS! Maybe I was abducted by aliens or… Matthew’s train of thought (if you could even call it thought) was disrupted when he tripped over the first step of his office front. He sighed loudly and couple of tears sprang to the corners of his eyes. His fist painfully found the frame of a door as he stumbled past the entrance to his office.

Matthew ran his fingers through his hair and scratched through his over-grown beard before stumbling onto his couch. Matthew didn’t even bother stripping off the hot, scratchy scarf from his neck before collapsing down on his couch, letting sleep claim his fatigued body. The next morning, Matthew awoke and decided to take a little trip downtown. His paranoia got the better of him as he planned out his afternoon of spying.

Matthew’s first stop was the downtown strip. He thought that he may have seen Lauren a couple times, but it turned out to be no one he knew. Finally, his eye caught the bright red sweater he has seen yesterday. Matthew jumped behind a nearby tree and peeked out from just behind it, trying to see what she was up to.

Lauren was again holding the small boy in her arms, this time handing him over to an elderly woman in a quaint little house on the outskirts of the town. Matthew watched their interactions and tried to hear what they were talking about, but he couldn’t make out much.

As Lauren turned around, Matthew’s mind flew into a frenzy – he couldn’t take it anymore! He felt his legs race up towards his estranged wife and planted himself in front of her.

“Lauren?” Matthew heard himself say loudly.

Lauren hardly moved, but rather glanced up at Matthew as if she was about to run away from him. Matthew looked at Lauren and started to speak immediately.

“What the hell is going on?” Matthew demanded.

“Matthew…”

“W-what are you like cheating on me now? Living a double life or something?!” Matthew asked harshly.

Lauren took Matthew’s arm and led him to the sidewalk, away from the little boy and elderly woman. Lauren turned around and stood in front of her estranged Matthew.

“What are you doing here?” Lauren asked quietly and calmly.

“What?!” Matthew asked, surprise in his voice.

“What are you doing here? All the sudden you just show up in town and start accusing me of cheating on you or something? What is the matter with you?!”

“Don’t play innocent with me, Matthew. I shouldn’t even have to bring up that day,” Lauren spat at Matthew.

“What day?” Matthew asked, completely unaware of whatever it was Lauren was referring to.

“Don’t play games with me, Matthew,” Lauren said, tears coming to her eyes.

“I’ve spent three years trying to forget about that day. Your stupid job and your stupid clients were more important to you than your own wife,” Lauren said with venom in her voice. “Or should I say Victoria was more important to you than your own wife?” Lauren asked, this time her voice full of hurt.

“Lauren…” Matthew started to plead.

Matthew was lost. He once had a loving wife, who now won't even speak to him. He now has a son, whom Matthew doesn't even know. All the meetings Matthew has had with Lauren have made him more and more confused, and he didn't know how much more of this nonsense he could take.

Lauren warned him - she actually warned him not to come near her and her son. "But he is MY son! He is MY son too!" Matthew thought to himself as he drug his feet away from the town square. "How can Lauren expect me to stay away from her and away from OUR son... especially when I've never even met him before?" Matthew continued to try and reason out in his head.

Matthew didn't even notice the crisp wind whipping through his matted hair as he trudged away from where he had just seen Lauren. The nights were getting shorter as the cold weather infringed upon the beautiful fall season. It had been months; months since Matthew knew what was going on in his life.

"MATTHEW!"

Matthew stopped proptly when he heard his name being screamed, rather annoyingly. He looked up to see a beautiful woman - with a big scowl on her face - standing in the doorway of a large home. But this wasn't just any beautiful woman...

Matthew was feeling even more confused by his domestic dispute with his... Wait! What is Victoria? His wife? His girlfriend? Matthew didnt even know. All he knew was that he was through with trying to find out what happened all by himself.

Thats when Matthew found himself standing outside of Madam Celeste's House of Mystery. If the reality circuit board was shorting out on him, Matthew decided to get the help of someone who wasnt as concerned with reality as he was.

"I dont know... anything anymore," Matthew started out softly and slowly. "My wife and I, we're not even married anymore. I dont know her, she didnt tell me about my son. I think I may be married to the woman I cheated on my wife with, but I dont even know."

Madam Celete's gaze snapped toward Matthew as she tried to clear her mind and figure out who Matthew's wife really was.

"I see..." Madam Celeste stated.

"You see what?" Matthew asked. "You see what?!"

Matthew's heart sank as he heard the fortune-teller say what he feared the most. He waited for her to continue.

"You were so worried about your career," Madam Celeste went on to say. "Lauren was working to make your house a home, so that she and you could start a family together and be happy together."

Tears started to spring to Matthew's eyes as he listened to the old woman.

"The minute you replaced the thought of your wife with the thought of Victoria was the minute you threw your life away," Madam Celeste said strongly. "You left your wife. You left your son."

Madam Celeste calmly waved her hand in front of Matthew's face, as she brought him into a dream sequence. Matthew had never experienced anything like it. It was like he was in a giant movie theater, watching his life... but it was his life three years ago.

Madam Celeste's voice flowed smoothly through Matthew's ears as his eyes focused on the giant screen in front of him.

The day you and Victoria were made lovers, you walked back to your home riddled with guilt. Celeste's voice narrated. Lauren was waiting for you on the front porch, just bursting to tell you about her day.

Yes, when I found this story (not to long ago) I thought it was odd that they did look so similar. When he first sees the beautiful woman (Victoria) I tought it was Lauren and he was about to realize just how much he loved her. But I guess BP had other ideas.

For some reason I just love this story. It's really, really good. I think I know where this is going... but i've been wrong before. I was extremely excited when I realized the story had been updated. I'm almost pathetic. Heh.

I haven't seen Click, but I understand the similarity. Because, if I'm not wrong...in Click at first the main character uses his remote just to fast-forward through fights and stuff but then it gets stuck on fast-forward and he just sort of misses his own life, and his kids growing up, and stuff like that. Because of carelessness he loses things he cares about and feels really personally devastated. Right? That’s what I heard happens.

So in that sense--there are similar aspects to the stories.

Madam Celeste's voice rang through Matthew's head for the better part of an hour. His meeting with the woman didnt prove anything more than Matthew being even more confused than before.

"Is this how its going to be?" Matthew thought to himself. "Is each day going to get more and more confusing... until I dont even know who I am anymore?"

Matthew's head was in the clouds as he slumped down under the giant tree in his front yard, not even knowing how he made it home. He kept trying to go over everything in his head, but it left him with nothing more than frustration, anxiety, hopelessness and a lot of pain.

Not before long, Matthew saw the second story curtains sturring. Victoria called out for him, wondering why he was sitting under the tree in the dark. He sighed into the crisp autumn night and started towards the house... his house.

Matthew walked to the master bedroom like he was pre-programmed to know exactly each and every twist and turn in his home. He stopped at the door of his bedroom... their bedroom... and wondered for a moment how he even knew the way to the bedroom. Pushing the thought aside, Matthew opened the door and walked into a lavishly decorated master suite.

He sat down on a chair sitting under one of the bedroom windows as Victoria lay casually on the bed. She was dressed in her pajamas and reading a book as she relaxed into the pillows.

Matthew's gaze landed on the beautiful woman in front of him. He watched as her eyes smoothly run from one side of the page to the other with ease. Her expression was practically immobile as she took in word after word, sentence after sentence. Finally she looked up at him and caught his gaze with her own. The slow, smooth motion of her eyes became suddenly choppy as her brow furrowed while she tried to figure out why he was staring at her.

Matthew broke his gaze with Victoria, letting her get back to her silent reading. He let his head fall back onto the top of the chair and he stared at the ceiling. After swallowing hard, he raised his head and looked around the room. Everything in the room seemed familiar yet completely foreign as if he had never seen in his life.

His right foot started to slowly move over its pair as Matthew's eyes darted around the room. He shuffled his feet together as his heart started racing. "I dont know where I am." Matthew thought, the panic rising in his chest. "I dont know what Im doing. I dont know who my wife is."

His feet still moving uneasily against each other, Matthew suddenly felt short of breath and the room seemed to have tripled in size. He felt so small, like the whole room was going to just swallow him up. And for just a moment, Matthew really wished that it would.

"I have to go," Matthew stated abruptly as he stood from the chair.

Victoria looked up from her book calmly and asked where he possibly needed to go at twelve o'clock at night.

"I dont know," Matthew replied. "I just have to get out of here."

Victoria squinted and slid off the bed, advancing towards a very nervous Matthew. He looked back quickly, and with the expression of a deer caught in headlights Matthew turned away from Victoria and walked out of their room.

The walk to nowhere was a long one. Matthew couldnt help but worry the whole way there. He didnt know where he was going or what he was going to do once he got there. But it didnt seem as though any place could give him the focus to try and figure out what the hell was going on.

Matthew could hear the soft patting of his rubber soles on the sidewalk with every step he took. The anxiety that had settled in his chest over the past few days was now rising up, pushing his heartbeat into his ears and drowning out the sound of his footsteps.

He could barely even think by the time he arrived. With a shakey stance, Matthew planted himself outside and tried to figure out why he came here. It clicked in his head as fast as a lightbulb illuminating, and he took a deep breath before knocking.
