Located deep in the Arizona Territory in the late 1800s, the boomtown known as Tumbleweed Valley teeters on the brink between lawlessness and civilization. The honest and hardworking souls trying to turn Tumbleweed Valley into a respectable community are poised against the ruffians who prefer it to remain a lawless frontier town. What is the fate of Tumbleweed Valley? Come along for a Wild West Adventure, and let’s discover it together!

The Characters:
There are three different gangs present in Tumbleweed Valley; they are The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. (hardy-har-har) The gangs shall consist of six people each!

1. The Good: These are the honest, hardworking folks that want to see Tumbleweed prosper and make its mark on the maps! Their goal is to turn Tumbleweed Valley into a respectable community.

2. The Bad: These are the ruffians who would like to see Tumbleweed Valley return to being a lawless frontier town that it once was. Nothing like the smell of gun smoke!

3. The Ugly: This gang doesn’t care one way or another what type of town Tumbleweed Valley is, as long as they own it. As long as you stay out of their way, they don’t care what your ideals. They are always looking out for number one.

Drifters: Drifters is a title for those who want to participate but there are currently no open slots for them. Drifters may participate in the role play element of this contest only. If a gang looses a party member, they can then recruit a drifter to join their gang. The drifter will then move into an empty building and turn it into whatever they like.

The Goal:
Each gang wants to control Tumbleweed Valley. Whoever has the most influence has control of the town. At the beginning, each person will own their own building. Each week (hopefully) the three gangs will participate in some sort of contest. The gang that wins that contest then chooses a building owned by any rival gang and uses their influence to take it over.
*A Note about Secret Hideouts*: Each gang will have one secret hideout. This is the one and only location that is not allowed to be taken over by a rival gang. It is a *secret* after all!
At the end, which ever gang controls more of the town is declared the winner. (The only exception is that there will be one contest for each gang that they cannot participate in. It’s still even as every gang will participate in the same amount of contests.) In the event of a tie, then we will solve it the way any dispute is solved in the west…
We’ll have a shootout at high noon!

I’m a stickler for keeping a decent pace. I have a total of ten contests planned. With everyone’s cooperation, this role play should last about three months after it gets started. I’ve never actually hosted one of these before though, so don’t hold me to it. Before you join, please be sure you will be able to log on and participate at least every other day as there will be many decisions to make. Absences for real life reasons are expected; in that situation your gang’s leader will make decisions for you. If you are inactive for two weeks without letting anyone know why, your gang can kill you off and replace you with a drifter. (Hey, the Wild West was brutal!)

The Rules:
1. Follow all the role play rules (http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=41221) of this forum!
2. Please!! Keep the amount of spam down. Only post questions, RP entries and things of a useful nature. This forum’s PM system is here for a reason! Each gang is encouraged to trade IM names; I will not dictate which one to use, as I do believe you are all big enough to decide amongst yourselves.
3. Adult Sims only please. (Yes, SIMS, not drawings or real people please.) If you enter an other-worldly sim, please choose to be on The Ugly gang.
4. It needs to be clear who your character is. Your character is allowed to have a family for support roles only and try to only mention them in passing. Whatever happens to your main character happens to your whole family.
5. There will be three rival gangs, there’s bound to be some friction. Please remember this is just a game, and please have fun with it! However, when speaking Out Of Character, make sure you treat even your rivals with respect.

Applications:
Please include the following information: Your character’s name, age, a short bio in which you mention which building they own in town, and the gang you wish to be a part of. Also include one full body shot against a solid color background. You are welcome to include one other shot of your choice to help portray your character’s personality. I will be happy to create avatars for those who want them. Just state in your application that you’d like one.

Suggestions: Who you enter, and what they do in town is completely up to you. I thought I’d give some ideas for anyone who wants them.
1. Places in town: Saloon, Jail, Bank, Post Office, General Store, Doctor’s House, Cattle Ranch, Opium House, Firearms shop.
2. Some Characters: Undertaker, Gambler, Homesteader, Businessman, Lawman, Blacksmith, Preacher Man, Teacher, Performer… A Character doesn’t necessarily have to fit its stereotypical role. Perhaps the Sherriff is corrupt and is actually one of The Bad. Maybe the good Doctor used to be a local Medicine Man who found himself lured by the Town’s free flow of booze and is now part of the Ugly? Feel free to be creative!

Misc:
Applications will remain open until all three gangs are filled. Once each gang has elected their leader, then we will get started with the first competition. At this point others are still welcomed to join in the role play as a drifter (See Characters above). You may post an application without a picture to ensure you get your desired roll. However if your application is posted for two days and you do not update it with a picture it will become void, and that slot will be given to someone else.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask here, or in PM. I hope this will be an enjoyable time for everyone!

Jack Scarlet

Age: 20
Bio: A flamboyant and romantic highwayman, Jack's legend is one of the most infamous in the West. His criminal career began at the tender age of 12, being 'adopted' by a criminal gang as a pickpocket. By the age of 14, he was involved in his first armed bank-robbery. A year later, he shot a man dead in a gunfight. Wanted by both the town sheriff and his shady victim's gang, he stole a horse from a blacksmith and disappeared from the town. He now lives out a life shrouded in disguise, raiding goods trains and holding up banks, often even in front of audiences. Rather than revealing his own identity, he uses various pseudonyms including Red and Jack of Hearts. Despite his true identity being unknown, those who hear of his legend idolize him as a highly talented thief and gunman.
Gang: The Ugly. As long as he can carry on robbing from trains, he doesn't care.
Building: Jack prefers not to make his face known about town too much. Unknown to the people of the town, he owns the notorious Tumbleweed Inn - a tavern renowned for gunfights, also providing a den and safe-haven for black market trading and gang meetings.

Biography: Sweet, caring, and always willing to help, Julia Wilson grew up with her mom and three sisters. She, being the middle child, followed in her mothers footsteps as a teacher, caring for her students and everyone around her. Her older sister moved away to the pursue her dreams, while her younger sister was soon married and moved also. Later her mother died, and Julia moved to Tumbleweed Valley. She continues to teach here, owning a schoolhouse. She still hopes that her sisters will come here to visit from time to time, for she misses them alot. She hopes that this town will soon come alive, becoming the best that it can be. Julia also has that southern accent, and that western slang, that she has been trying to make disappear for years

Age: 19
Biography: Lolita: name meaning seductress is only 19 and the prettiest girl in town - with the worst reputation. She works as a saloon girl with her best (and equally trashy) co-worker Aspen who is teaching her the "tricks of the trade"; and they both give drunk men a good time: if you know what I mean :P She never knew her parents and grew up fending for herself, helped by the young boys in the village and has had more "experiences" than you can count. However growing up the hard way left her eager for fun and adventure; plus some pretty muscular bodyguards to help her. Don't call her sleazy or one of her bad boy friends will put a bullet in your back before you can whip out that pistol. Of course, friends with anyone who is manly enough to have a gun, and knows how to use it.

Name: Aspen Brooks
Age: 21
Bio: Working as a Saloon girl is even more exciting than it sounds. Apsen, born to a wealthy family of successful business owners could have been rich and possibly up there with the town higher-ups. Unfortunately, her bad relationship with her father and rebellious and (dare I say "sleezy") attitude, all hopes of boom were infatuated. Her father left her and her mother on the streets, keeping his only son, Cristen, to inherit the family fortune. Frustrated and poor, her mother had killed her ex-husband, and taught Aspen just how to do it. Shortly after, she fled town to return to the East coast to start a new life, leaving Aspen behind. Now all Aspen has to do is kill her brother Cristen to inherit the fortune, and live life like she should have been. Perhaps she might not have the "best" friends, but she is currently teaching her new found friend and co-worker, Lolita, the "tricks of the trade". So now, she works as a Saloon Girl, serving up a good drink and a good time to loney men. Which, in her opinion, is not a bad job. As a "plus" she also get's to watch all the gunfights, bar fights, town raids, etc. She wants to live a life of excitement and drama, not one of the goody-goodies (like her family) showing everyone how to live.

Roxana, known as Roxy, is works the bar at the co-owned Tumbleweed Inn. She respects her co-owner, Red, although she doesn't speak to him much, unless it includes her paycheck. She'll do anything to make a sale, from flirting to unrealistic promises to threatening at the point of a gun. Every man in town knows not to get too close to Roxy or she'll blow his brains out - unless he buys something from the Inn, of course. Roxy is a skilled fast-talker and quick with a gun. She shoots first and asks questions later, earning her a spot with The Uglies.

Name: Aberle White [and Halse: see below]
Age: 19
Bio: Aberle was once a normal boy living a quiet and unsuspecting life with his parents who owned the local firearms shop. He spent his days with his father, discussing what were the best guns and learning how to shoot; the average Western pastimes. However, one day the sheriff of their town burst into the shop and demanded his parents be taken away and locked up. Their smuggling of illegal foreign arms had been unearthed. His parents struggled rather than going peacefully with the sheriff, resulting in a rather brutal showdown that ended with their death. As the sheriff and the others left, they failed to notice that a small boy was huddling beneath the bed--leaving him all alone. Seeing the brutal beating of his parents, and being alone for quite some time drove Aberle temporarily insane. When he finally was reintroduced to civilization, he'd developed a cold hearted split personality, of which he named Halse. Soon after, he decided to continue his parent's legacy and move the firearms shop to an abandoned building in a town they called Tumbleweed Valley.
Gang: The Ugly
Building: firearms shop
Other: Halse is an astounding shooter, able to hit any target thrown at him whether in combat or in an organized course. Aberle, while good at hitting still targets at any range, is something of a klutz when it comes to fighting. He is known to trip and fall at the worst given moments, and he occasionally misses simple targets. It is unclear as to why there is such a great difference in skill between the two personalities.

Stylequeen & Pandaness: You both say you work at the saloon, so neither of you own it. Perhaps one of you can be the owner, and the other will have a private residency?

Hamsterball & Haylifer - Okay, so which one of you stays at the Inn, and which one has a private residency?

I'm sorry to be a stickler guys, but it matters because which ever gang controls the most buildings at the end is the winner, so we need to be sure each gang starts with the same amount of buildings. Easiest way to do that is one building per player. When you RP you're free to roam the town so it doesn't matter that much.

Name: Elizabeth (Ellie) Garnet
Age: 20
Bio: Ellie never really knew her real family, when she was four her parents were killed by one of the local gangs. Ellie was hiding in fear and, for some unknown reason, the leader took pity on her and raised her as his own. Ellie quickly grew accustomed to a life of crime. By the age of ten, she could already kill someone out of cold blood, and had already done so on numerous occasions.
To her allies, Ellie is a loyal friend and easy to get along with, but her allies are the only people who see this side of her. To her enemies, she is cold, cruel, and sadistic. She will stop at nothing to get what she wants, and she isnt afraid of who she would have to step on or even kill to get it.
There is one important thing many people must know about her, never call her by Elizabeth, those who do may most likley find a bullet in their head before they have time to say another word. She goes only by Ellie.

Bio: Son of a famous lawman :smash: killed by the Bad, Cristen is out for revenge. He joined the good, after they were impressed by his Ocelot-like gun slinging skills. His horse, Gibson, is his only friend. He also owns the cattle ranch. His parents divorced when he was young. He stayed with his father, but Aspen went with her mother. She returned one day, saying something about "ill-gotten," and she tried to kill him. But he just wants to keep his sister safe, and share the money with her.

Woot! I'm so excited! Uh, quick question...is this set before or after the Mexican American war? I kind of want Tom to have been a soldier, but if that's not possible, it's no big deal.

Name: Tom Delgado
Age: 34
Bio: Tom is a quiet man, keeps to himself and keeps his own council. He works at the post office, running the mail coach from Tumbleweed Valley to the other outposts. Most people think he's slow, but in truth he's very intelligent. He just doesn't like to show off that fact.
Born a slave, Tom was only 3 when he was freed by the Civil War. His family moved out west because they heard that things were better there, but they fell victim to lack of funds and were forced to settle in Oklahoma. When he was sixteen, Tom joined the army and fought in the Spanish-American war, trying to earn a pension to support his parents. He spent a month as a prisoner-of-war in Cuba, and when he was released, the war was over. He returned to the states and got a job at the post office in a town called Dover, but after a few years he began steadily moving to the west. When his parents died, he left the plains and headed for the great southwest, eventually getting a job in Tumbleweed Valley.
He's become somewhat of a fixture in the town, getting very little respect because of his color, but no one causes any trouble with him either. He's happy there.
Gang: The Good
Building: The post office (he lives in a room above it)

((Hmm, I'm happy with Jack owning a private residency, as he doesn't like to be around much. If he did though, nobody's allowed to know about it in the RP! ;) As far as they know, it belongs to a retired old dear who is bedridden from the nose down. I just think it'd be a bit dangerous for an outlaw to have a permenant place of residence that people actually know about xD Because the sherriff can just waltz in and arrest him in his sleep... Name: Calista Barett
Age: 20
Bio: Calista is, despite her young age, already one of the most wanted criminals in the West. There's nothing she hasn't robbed; banks, trains, stage coaches, people on the street, you name it, she's robbed it, sometimes even disguised as a man. She loves explosives, and uses them at any given opportunity.
She was born to a Mexican mother and an American father, and although they were poor, she was raised well. However, as a child she was always intrigued by stories of outlaws, and her first crush as a young teenager was on a highwayman who, along with his gang, robbed the stage coach Calista and her family were travelling with. Instead of being frightened by the brusque and burly men, she was fascinated, and for a long, long time afterwards, she daydreamed about that one man whose piercing eyes had warned her not to make any sudden moves.
Years later, she realized her life probably wouldn't get more exciting than that, unless she took matters into her own hands, and so she left her parents and siblings to seek adventure. Before long she had joined up with a gang of robbers, and hasn't regretted it since.
Gang: The bad.
Building: Calista is the silent owner of the town livery stable, meaning she owns it but has someone else run it. It ensures a small profit, should her... uhh... "outings" fail at doing so. ;) It also presents her with a great opportunity to "investigate" who might be worth robbing once they leave town (wouldn't want to give the livery a bad rep by robbing people while they're using it's services, now would she?).
So, this would all make her Livery Stable owner/outlaw.

Pandaness - Sorry, that was my goof! Trying to prepare food for a fourth of July Party and keep up with this proved to be too much for me. lol Since you're the "owner" of the Saloon, have more money than Lolita, would you be willing to have a private residency also? Just have to find a way for there to be two buildings between you two. Just cause you have a residency doesn't mean you have to use it! Oh, also, you (and anyone else) is more than welcome to include a picture of their building. It'll be a great visual for the role play. After I get all applications I will post the town map showing the location of each building.

I hadn't thought of this before. Please be patient with me, my first time hosting a roleplay and all. I would like to institute something. Each gang will have 1 Secret Hideout (SH). This one location is not to be found by any rival gangs and therefore can not be taken over. This does two things.
1. Guarantees no gang will be eliminated completely, and
2. Adds a building so one member from each gang doesn't HAVE to have a residency.

With that said... Pandaness - feel free to live in the saloon. The Bad's SH will take the place of the needed building.
Haylifer - feel free to remain in your own Inn... the Ugly SH will replace your needed building.
So this leaves the good. If there is a good member who wants to not own a building, first come first serve.

Aww!! slytherin-girl - Please join up anyway. I'd love to have you participate, we still need a jailor, an undertaker would be fun. ;)

Sorry, I probably could have been clearer...
Each gang's Hideout is a secret location, not an existing building. The Saloon is open to everyone regardless of who "owns" it.
For example:
Previously we had Jack & Roxana wanting to be at the Inn. But for game play reasons I need two buildings not one. Now they can both live at the inn and the Secret Hideout takes the place of the needed building.
Also... For you Lolita & Aspen. They both live at the Saloon. However, that would make the Bad's missing a building. Now there is a Secret Hideout, so you can both live at the saloon and neither of you needs a private residency.

It's all just assuring that every gang starts out with the same amount of controlled territory. Here's the map so far to try to help clear things up.

The man you hesitantly married moved your family out west to find riches. You had him killed and now live off of his wealth? I gotta find something for ya!

Gang: Lottie's a member of "The Ugly" gang, but if you call her ugly, you'll be slapped. She joined because she wants to be among the people who run the town. It is exceedingly important to her that she live a comfortable life with as little hard work as possible.
Bio: Lottie likes to gamble. She spends most of her free time playing cards at the Saloon or the Inn. Surprisingly, she's usually an honest player, and she almost always wins.
Lottie has a mean streak that nobody will ever see. Obnoxious, catty, malicious, cruel, snarky, critical of everyone but herself... but only in her mind. She's a bit too spineless to say any of the terrible things she thinks about others. They might say worse to her if she did, and wounded pride is not something she handles well. So she acts sweet, hoping to gain admiration.
Lottie treats everything as either painfully boring or delightfully exciting. Beautiful or revolting. Black or white, no in between. But she's indecisive, so her way of thinking puts her a little "off"...

The Dr has two main weaknesses Opium and gambolling, although he’s also prone to sampling a little Ether to steady his hands. Pandaness: That was really great of you to offer the saloon up for download. And thanks for the compliments on the avatars. I am a big fan of 123s avatars for the Desparado RPs. But sparklies didn't seem to go with a Wild West theme. It took me a while to come up with an old movie type feel. Anyway, glad ya like them. :)

veldagia- I will list Dr. Cooper under the Ugly gang for ya.

xsnowdropx- Thanks for letting us know. That rule is more there for people who seem to enter but disappear. We can have some leniency. Worse comes to worse your character will be camera shy and not in the gang's photo. Good luck with your computer!

Haylifer - lol I never tried putting the plant in the juicer. lol But I know at Wal-mart, or any similar type store, you can buy a bottle of Aloe Gel. It's usually somewhere by Lotions or Bubble Bath. I'm a white girl that grew up in Sunny Southern Arizona. I learned the power of Aloe the hard way. lol

Although if Jack lived in the inn, then the sheriff could come along (when he actually applies, that is) and raid the place, and RP-arrest him. It'd be safer for him to live in the SH and send money out to Roxy, who runs the inn while he's out holding up coaches and such.

redwing - an animated picture is just like a flip book. A lot of pictures put one after the other done quick enough they look like they're moving. Unfortunately, when I get your avatar, I only get the very first picture, so it looses the animation. The reason why is it's saved file format. They're small and ideal for the forums. So if you want to pester 123, see if he has your avatar in either a .png or .psp format he can give me. Then I could work on it, but for now this is the best I can do.

I googled IceBox, and according to this Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icebox) Ice Boxes would have been the newest thing available in rich houses at this time. A Deli really doesn't fit with the Wild West thing, but if you want it bad enough, I suppose you could make it work. I'll add you to the Uglies for now, but leave your job blank. Please think about it more and see if there's something else more fitting that you'd like to play.

woohoo, have you tried jsut using the printscreen button? I did that for mine, made sure my graphic were set as high as I could, then just pasted the shot into MS paint and it turned out fine.

Heh, I just realized that Evelynn and Loretta have the same hair... I think I fixed my picture problem... I checked my camera settings and they were set to take small, low quality pictures. Don't I feel silly!

If it'll help the building predicament, I can say that Loretta's brother Frederick owns the bank. I think I already said this, but Loretta just isn't the type who would own buildings or work at all.

One more building idea: Tailor. I think they would've had tailors... I could be wrong though.

For my Bad guys. You're free to elect whoever you like, but I think role play wise, Sheriff Billy is an awesome choice for leader. As long as foolinthemoon is up for it.

Haylifer - I hadn't asked for the Ugly to start voting yet because we hadn't heard from LadyAshe yet. But since she has posted since my last post, ya'll can feel free to elect a leader for the Ugly.

I'm sure everyone already knows, but here's the rundown on leaders. Leaders of the gangs are my official link to the gang. They will often be responsible for PMing me Gang choices, and they have final say in Gang decisions. A Gang leader really needs to be active. They should be able to access the forums nearly (or more than) once a day. I know there will be absences, we'll deal with those as they come.

I think she meant for Roleplaying purposes, what with the Sheriff being well, the Sheriff and also the only male in the group. He could be RP'd as sort of like a Dominant Male. You're right, the player is the gang leader and not the character, but at the end of the day all that means is they're a spokesperson for the group.

One very important aspect is taking responsibility for the participation of all gang members. Another is having the final say on decisions. Although I think the majority should rule, it's still something that should be considered. Whats the big deal about who's gang leader? my only requriements are that they be online regularly and are capable. I will say for that time setting and with Billy being sheriff, it would seem like a good leader in this position... that and I really can't see him taking orders, not from a girl and not from a man either. But I don't HAVE to be incharge, I can work with anyone mostly.

First things first. In the rules it states...
5. There will be three rival gangs, there’s bound to be some friction. Please remember this is just a game, and please have fun with it! However, when speaking Out Of Character, make sure you treat even your rivals with respect.
I am not pointing fingers at anyone, (and I hope no one else will either) as we are all capable of breaking this rule. Yes, even me!

Some of the confusion stems from my not being clearer about Gang "leader". I take responsibility for that and I am sorry. I ask only for your understanding as you're dealing with a first time host here.

You're free to elect whoever you like,...
I have no vote, it's purely up to the gang. The leader does effect both the RP element and has the behind the scenes responsibility. I should have been more clear on that. During Role Play, gang members might run to the leader for help with something. They may secretly hate him/her but smile to their face. It's all on how you want your character to be. But Gang Leader is leader in Role Play and responsible for PMing me and resolving Gang disputes. A good leader (unlike your wild west counterparts) will take in account everyone's feelings and opinions before making the Gang's official voice heard. However, the gang leader will not be the only one to have a say in things, and there will be times when someone other than the gang leader is held responsible for a decision.

My comment of Sheriff being "an awesome choice for leader." Was made purely out of my personal thoughts on the story telling aspect. redwing and I are happily crewmates in Desparado, I do not favor one person over another here. As host of this RP I must remain neutral, no favorites. I don't know, the idea of a Sheriff leading a gang of women, I thought it was amusing. So kill me! (And I am a woman, not a woman hating man before someone accuses me. lol I'm just joking!)

I hope this cleared things up some. If there is any more questions, please pm them to me. I will be happy to see if I can clear things up.

While we're clearing things up... I thought I'd expand on the whole territory thing.

About Territories: The ultimate goal of this game is to have more “territory” than the other gangs. This doesn’t mean you lawfully own the building, (as in you have the deed and the keys, and it’s yours.) It’s more that your gang’s influence is strong there, and it’s known as your territory. Everyone is allowed in all establishments, regardless of who’s territory it is. (With the only exception being Secret Hideouts. Those after all, are secrets!) Let’s look at an example:
To begin with, Aspen Brooks owns the Tumbleweed Saloon. It is legally her building, and because she is a member of The Bad gang, it is Bad territory. Even though it is Bad territory, everyone is still welcome to frequent it. (After all, not serving two-thirds of the population is bad business technique!)

Now let’s say The Ugly win the first challenge, and they choose the Saloon as the place they want to take over. The Saloon then switches from Bad territory, to Ugly territory. Aspen Brooks is still the owner of the Saloon and members of all gangs can still visit it. It’s not off limits to anyone. But since it is The Ugly’s territory they may be inclined to run rampant in there. They may feel freer to bully other gang members that walk in there. It’s really all about influence.

Michaela’s mother died giving birth to her leaving her with her father. Her father taught her so many things and told her stories of every type. When she was 11 her father was killed by a few gang members leaving her without any guardian. The Saloon owner at the time took her in and put her to work right away, it was sad making an 11 year old girl work as a saloon girl. Over the years the other girls in the saloon have taught her a lot of things, but never really gave her a family. When she turned 16 she discovered her singing talents and the saloon also used her for that. She would put on shows every Saturday night for the drunken men that would come in. She now is 19, and she’s hoping to get out of the saloon business and start a singing career possibly someday open up her own saloon where there’s nothing but entertainment.

WooHoo - As for the strategy part, that's a tricky question. The challenges themselves don't have a lot of strategy, but I suppose the choices in which buildings you want as your territory could be considered strategy.

Also, please no killing anyone via RP unless they have been asked to be taken out of the game in such a manor. I know the Wild West was full of "accidental" (yeah right!) shootings, but we all have the same goal - to make it to the end of this thing alive!

There are few things in all the world as beautiful as a southern Arizona sunset. The skies come alive with a spectrum of colors ranging from bright yellow to dark red. Those who live here however tend to take it for granted. The setting of the sun offers a much needed relief from the hot desert temperatures. As dusk falls over Tumbleweed Valley, it's inhabitants are busy. Some are locking up shop and heading home to their loved ones. Others are just getting started. Up and down Main Street, piano music can be heard pouring from the Saloon. There's a faint distinct scent drifting from one of the houses up on Donkey Tail Road. For those who call Tumbleweed Valley home, it's just the beginning of another desert night.

Julia looked out passed her window into the western sunset, her face gleaming with delight. It had been quite sometime since she moved up to Arizona. She came from the south, Texas to be exact, where heat was inevitable and the sun was that bright yellow, with a hint of gold, all through the day. The heat had taken a toll on her, so she moved here, to Tumbleweed Valley. The heat wasn't as bad, and the place she was living in was quite cozy, living above the school house wasn't so horrible. Julia looked over to the right of the window, seeing many houses, about four of them. Sadly, even though she had lived here for a while, she had not met anyone yet, because she had not really gone outside her home, she was busy preparing for school to start soon, she couldn't wait to see the joyful faces of children once again.

Turning around, Julia sat on her bed and looked out the window, seeing the inn and the saloon. She wasn't one to go to a saloon, quite frankly because she did not drink often, yet the place was probably filled with people, laughing and having a good time. The inn seemed like a very nice place to stay in, even though she hadn't actually gone inside.

Julia lifted herself from the bed, and went over to her cupboard, realizing that she was running out of food, and would have to head to the general store tomorrow. She also decided to head to the bakery tomorrow, there's nothing better than a nice apple pie. Julia closed to cupboard, bored out of her mind. She had never been so bored before, except for the time when she was five, and went to a wedding, she could not sit still for even a second.

She strolled over to her desk, took out a clean sheet of paper and her quill, and started writing to her older sister Melanie. She wished to see her for a long time, hoping to invite her over here for a visit. Julia kept this paper for about a week, getting up the courage to write to her.

Dear Melanie,
It's me, your dear younger sister Julia. I wish to see you so much, things in Tumbleweed Valley are going smoothly. Have you heard from Lucy at all? Oh, I wish to see her also! I was thinking, maybe you could take a break from your city life to come and see me, we could make things just like old times!

Julia stopped writing. She didn't feel she had enough will power to write this letter. It's not as if she and Melanie did not get along, they were the best of friends, all of her sisters were her best friends. But, she hadn't seen her sister for so long, who knows who's she's become? Julia sighed and put away her quill and paper, and tucked herself into bed for a nice day tomorrow.

The toolbox was stored in the closet in Poppy's office, and it took her only a few seconds to extract a small hammer and some nails and tuck them into her bodice, where they nestled beside her miniature revolver. Then she strolled without urgency along the cavernous back hall toward the foyer of the Poppy Mill.

Outside, the sunset was glistening off the railings of her porch, and she, as always when confronted with the blazing red and yellow light of the descending sun, felt a gratifying, familiar warmth rise through her torso.

But tonight she stopped only for a moment. She took a folded paper from one of her garters and flattened it against the rough surface of the bulletin board by the large double doors and nailed it securely. With only a quick glance at Donkey Tail Road, she reentered the house and disappeared from view.

Soon the sun was low enough to cast its light on the notice that Poppy had posted: "If you have business with me, please come in. If you have any other reason for being here, think twice before entering. You will not be welcome. PC, Sole Proprietor."

Pepper pulled out a large sack of flour and poured it into a bowl. The bakery smelled of warm pastries and sweet smelling breads. She cracked some eggs into the same bowl and went to the cellar to get some whiskey. She needed it for her famous Pecan Pie. She was making one for Jack. Oh, Jack. She had a huge crush on him. His beautiful hair and face. He was so brave to rob those trains as they came and passed. It's funny how somebody so bad can be so attractive. Well enough about him, she had a pie to make.

She took out a seperate bowl and added the rum to it. She stopped for a moment and thought. She turned around and looked at the glasses sitting out. She took one and poured the whiskey into it about halfway up. Then she turned back to her pie. Eventually all the ingredients were added and put into an oven. Pepper started to drink her whiskey and went to her pile of mail she had gotten eariler, looking for anything people had wanted for her to bake.

"Nothing. Of course, I'm real popular around here." She said sarcastically. *Ding* The Pie was finished. She took it out. Oh the sweet smelling aroma. She went in the back to get a piece of paper. She pulled it out, and began to write.

"I hope you enjoy. Sorry If you don't like pecans, but you will after you taste this."

As the light dimmed around him, Tom Delgado spurred his horse to greater speed. Tumbleweed Valley was just around the bend, and he wanted to make it home before dark.
Nearing the outlying buildings, he saw lanterns being lit in the windows, women calling their children in for dinner, and the cowboys headed home for the night, herding their cattle ahead of them. It didn't take him long to reach the post office, slowing his horse to a stately trot as he passed the saloon, which was already well lit and noisy. As he stabled his horse, he suppressed a yawn. He'd ridden hard for the past two days, and he was feeling the familiar ache in his legs and back now that he had dismounted. With a sigh and a groan, Tom walked round to the front of the post office again.
He unlocked the front door quietly. The revelers across the road payed him little mind, and he liked it that way. He was not a man who enjoyed loud company, although he did enjoy having a beer in the well lit inn sometimes. It distracted him from his usual solitude at night.
He lay his heavy mail bag behind the counter, promising himself that he would sort through it this evening, after he had eaten. A moment's rest was all he needed, he told himself, as he trudged upstairs and lay on his bed.
Within moments, Tom was asleep, without removing his uniform or his boots.

Katherine sat with her young daughter on the sofa, reading to her from a book of fairytales. It had been given to her as a child, and she had brought it with her when they moved from Georgia.

"And the princess said "No, I didn't sleep well at all. There was something lumpy under my matress and i couldn't sleep a wink". It was then that the Queen realized she was a true princess after all and ordered a wedding right away".

"Mama, if I had I pea under my bed would I feel it too?" asked Emily-Rose as she shut the book. "Of course you would darling, all princesses do", replied Katherine, crossing the room to place the book back on the shelf.

Emily-Rose giggled and said "If I'm a princess mommy, does that make you a Queen? Cause princess' mommy's are usually Queens".

"It most certainly does. And as Queen I order you to get going and get ready for bed or I'll lock you up in the dungeons and never let you out". Emily-Rose laughed and jumped up off the sofa, dashing awat to her room to get ready for bed. Katherine watched her go and galnced over at the clock. "Still not home yet" she thought "He always works so late". She sighed and walked over to her daughter's room to help her prepare for bed.

Billy sat in the old wooden chair, rocking it back on its hind legs, feet propped on the desk. He sloshed the dark honey liquid around in the small thick glass before swallowing the remaining amount. The room was fairly dim, and except for him, the small building was empty tonight. Usually his highlight of the week was locking up a random drunken drifter or a bar brawl that had to be physically broken up. Maybe if he was lucky, he'd get to shot someone who wouldn't cooperate, or drew their gun on him.

It'd been a few years when the offical title of Sheriff fell into his lap. At first he dispised the title, but after a couple of months, he realized he could use it to his advantage after all. Since then, he's enjoyed being Sheriff, and the perks that have come with it. Especially the lovely ones with names.

He let out a sigh and put the chair on all fours before replacing the cork on the whisky and putting back in the desk. He stood up and looked out the window. His horse whinnied slightley and he narrowed his eyes to see if someone was out there. The horse went back to being silent and the thought of an intruder left his mind for the time being. He picked the long black duster off the desk and put it on then checked out of habit to see if his pistol was in it's holster. Satisfied, he opened the door and and faced the setting sun. The sky faded from yellow to orange to red before it faded into a pink, purple night scene. He squinted and turned his back to it, this was probably the worst time of day to him. His intensions were to make his nightly rounds and check in on a few lovely ladies, then hopefully he'd find himself at a poker table with another glass of whisky. He smiled to himself pleased with tonights plan when someone called his name...

"Sheriff?"

A soft light coiled into the dusty space, bringing a pale illumination to the darkness via a single window on its Northern flank. The many guns posted on the walls glistened with a sort of defiance at the touch of light. They were haughty creatures, gazing contemptuously down upon the masses from their lofty perches. A few people browsed these racks, tapping their chins as they observed the style and brand of the guns. One man with scruffy eyebrows and a chin full of stubble turned to the counter, his mouth agape as if to ask the shopkeeper a question. However, he found he had disappeared into the storage room just behind, and the man released a sigh. The silence was like a blanket muffling the whispers of the people in the building. The only sounds that came were those of the groaning of the shifting building, the creaking of the floorboards under the weight of the customers. There was an air of tension, one the man with the scruffy eyebrows couldn’t explain. He didn’t like it, though. The others were casting him weary gazes, and they bit their lips in anxiety as the man hovered closer to the counter.

Gentle undertones pricked at the stillness, and the man could hear someone humming under their breath. It was a soft and giddy tune, too upbeat for the atmosphere in the place. The man lifted a finger and opened his mouth once again, only to have his brow drop and his eyes mold into a look of surprise. A boy stood clutching a box of ammunition under his arm and a gun in his other hand. He was a young thing, didn’t look quite out of his teen years. His expression was soft and blithe, not something one usually saw in Tumbleweed Valley. Carefree, even.

“Hi, I’m Aberle, owner of this shop. Do you need some help, sir?” Aberle questioned sweetly as the box of ammunition clattered from his hands and onto the dusty counter. His hand trailed to a tattered rag nearby, and he began to trace it across the edge of the gun so that the metal gleamed with a new ferocity.

The man crossed his arms and his brown eyes glared beneath his heavy brow, “Yes, I would like to point out that you have a collection of illegal firearms, and I must say that I’m going to have to t-” The man cut short as he felt the barrel of the gun pressed neatly against his throat, his eyes followed the glinting metal to the boy’s own. They’d changed drastically, his expression molded so that he almost looked like an entirely different being. The brown orbs were narrowed to slits, and when he opened his mouth the man half expected to see a forked tongue protrude.

The voice that followed was nothing like the tender tone from before, it was vicious and low, dark, “I’m sorry, sir, but I don’t think,” he paused to lick his lips as he lowered the gun more in the direction of the man’s heart, “you’ll be wanting to finish that statement.” The air seemed to crystallize; everyone froze stiff as if scared that he might shoot if they moved an inch. They almost seemed to be holding their breath.

“I-” the man began, glancing at the gun. A bead of sweat trailed down his face and inched along his jaw. “I meant to say I would like to purchase…some…” his eyes caught sight of the box of ammunition. “S-some of those.” The fire disappeared from the boy’s eyes, and a syrupy smile chased across his lips.

“Why didn’t you just say so?” he proceeded to open the box with care, and looked up at the man with a sweet grin. “That’ll be ten dollars.” The man was about to protest at the cost of the ammunition, but he was a glimmer cross the boy’s eyes, and he closed his mouth. He sat down the money and collected the bullets he didn’t even need—and was off. Aberle smiled and set his chin in his hand and stared after the man with a far off look in his eye.
“Maybe Jack will come in today…” Aberle murmured to himself, and deep within his mind, that same voice from before echoed a slightly disgusted remark.

I thought you had a thing for Ellie?

Aberle sighed, put out by himself, “Halse, what girl do I not like? Besides, I don’t like Jack, don’t be stupid.” His voice was kept low, enough so that the customers could only see the movement of his lips. The foolish people assumed he was mentally calculating something, and thought nothing else of it. Halse tisked to himself in Aberle’s subconscious. They both knew he had a thing for Jack, he had since he’d been taken in by the Ugly gang, but he would have to keep his feelings to himself—such feelings were unacceptable in society. Besides—Halse hated Jack. And--Aberle thought with a frown--so far as he knew, Jack only liked women.

He groaned and melted onto the counter, earning him a few odd glances from his customers.

Cristen had just finished his round of milking. It was a much tougher job than people liked to think. He really needed some help. A partner. He needed a friend. He needed a brandy!

He pulled his shirt back on and, whiping the sweat of his brow, he headed to the saloon to see his sister. He ordered a brandy in a low gruff voice unlike his own with his hat over his eye, and when Aspen brought him his drink surprised her by saying "Small world," looking into her face.

"Stand and deliver!" Jack drawled lazily from behind the black bandana, a primed pistol aimed at a carriage missing it's front wheel. Today was going to be just another one of them days. No audience to show off to - since he'd came to Tumbleweed there rarely was. Instead, he took to his work with an air of lethargy. "Come on, I haven't got all day. Stand down or take the lead."
The coachman tried to stutter something from his position knelt down in the dust, so Jack gave him a swift boot to silence the man. Finally, a silver-haired old gentleman climbed down from the carriage, looking thoroughly displeased that his journey had been interrupted.
"You, young man, are a scoundrel and a thief!"
Jack made a show of rolling his kohl-rimmed eyes. "I'm afraid, sir, you're wrong. I'm a... financial advisor!" The old man raised a bushy eyebrow. "I recommend you give all your money to me. Don't worry, no additional fee charged."
"There'll be nothing for you but the gallows, mark my words!" retorted the man, clearly unimpressed by Jack's idle chat.
"The money! Or your life." Jack said, in a much more dangerous tone this time, aiming his pistol at the man's forehead. The old man squeaked and took out a small pouch from his pocket.
"This is all I carry with me.."
Jack pushed past the old chap and hopped into the carriage himself. After a few seconds of banging and clattering, he returned with a second bag of gold, an elaborate silver candlestick and a single blood-red rose.
"I don't know why you'd be needing this," he waggled the rose as he swung onto the tall black mare next to him. "But I'm sure I could find a use for it. It's freshly cut, and a rare colour. I don't think I've seen one like this since I travelled to Italy." he winked at the baffled old man, before clicking his teeth and giving the mare's hindquarters a quick squeeze, leaving the man behind in a cloud of dust.

He tied his horse up at the wooden post just outside his Inn, then strode inside, allowing his heels time to click with each step. "Roxy?" he called out to the building. The locals were used to his surprise visits by now, so few even looked up from their drink. Roxy being nowhere about, he left the smaller pouch of money behind the bar. Almost as an afterthought, he went down into the cellar and found an empty barrel towards the back, filled with gold and silver. Dumping the candlestick and some of the extra gold in there, he turned and left as quickly as he'd came.

Jack's next stop was the saloon. Most would expect a man in a long black coat to sit ominously in the corner of the room with his drink, shooting the room occasional suspicious glares. Not Jack - usually he'd be found buying some distressed soul a drink, playing poker or 'conversing' with the saloon girls. Today, he sat down at the bar and flashed a grin at the girl behind it. "I'll be having a short of that Tarantula Juice, miss. This place has a knack for making the stuff spot on." In truth, the Tarantula Juice that the saloon served was a throat-scraping mix of raw alcohol, burnt sugar and chewing tobacco. But it was the best you could get out here, not mixed with ammonia, turpentine or gunpowder, so Jack drank it anyway.

Administering the man with a good dose of laudanum Dr Josh smiled to himself as he waited for the drug to take effect. He would have to pay a visit to the lovely Poppy Chestnut, his stocks were getting rather low. Perhaps he could bargain a good price from her and it would be most impolite not to stay for a while and sample a little. He had to ensure that it was fit for his patients’ consumption.

The drug seemed to be taking effect, the man was finally quiet now and had stopped his relentless complaining. He pulled on his well worn apron and rolled up his sleeves. No point getting a mess over his daily clothes. Humming a little tune to himself he reached for a piece of thick leather hide. “Bite down on this hard, do not make the slightest sound, it upsets my hand and leads to messy work”. Inserting the piece into the man’s mouth, he ensured the tongue was trapped below.

He reached for a saw and placed it against the man’s wrist. No that would not do. Laying it back down he reached for the bottle beside the bed and took a good hearty swig. Throwing some over the man’s swollen arm, a practice he had read of in the latest paper. It could not hurt; the man was unlikely to survive anyway if he did not take better care of himself.

Why did they always come to him when it was too late? Too proud to admit they needed any help. The hand was useless, all swollen like a giant blue fruit, unable to even move his fingers. His career as a cowboy ended. He picked up the saw again and began his work.

Several long minutes later he was finished. Still humming he wiped his hands down on a cloth and threw the apron over a chair. The man could be left to sleep it off. He had business to see to, this job had paid well. With no other doctor near by these out-of-towners would pay any price he asked to relieve their discomfort. Picking up the bag of coins he headed out the surgery door.

“You may sit with him now” He nodded to the boy waiting inside. “Jeanne will take care of him now.” He motioned towards the old women. Nurse and housekeeper she took as her duty, thankfully requiring little more than her keep in her belief in doing good for others. “There is no charge for a little bread and water if you get hungry.”

With that he headed out onto Donkey Trail Road, a solemn smile upon his face.

Lolita checked her appearance in the mirror of her bedroom, examining the short purple show dress she was wearing. She tugged at the waist band, hitching it up a few more inches displaying her tanned legs she used to parade in front of all the lonely men in the saloon every night. She sighed and left her room, hearing the soft piano music playing from downstairs she realised people would be arriving. Gracing the top of the stairs she scoped the room; Cristen was in as usual, talking to her best friend Aspen, and the quiet mysterious guy Jack sat at the bar. A few other unknown men were scattered around; their faces buried in their pints, sure to stare at Lolita when she started performing.

Lolita sighed again and headed down the stairs, over to where Aspen and Cristen were talking together.

"Hey babe," she said to Aspen, waving three fingers at the 'cowboy' blonde she was chatting with, "how are you tonight then hun?" she asked, addressing Cristen.

She flicked her hair, starting the usual act she did every night to make the lonely handsome men feel special, reclining her arms back against the bar. Lolita smiled at Cristen and then walked over to Jack: a regular who the pretty saloon girl may have a thing for.

"Want another drink?" she asked, replenishing Jack's glass with more of the dark coloured liquid.

For the third time in a few minutes, Lolita sighed, shuffling her upper chest to settle the puffy sleeves of her saloon dress.

"You gunna watch me perform later?" she asked Jack, sliding his refilled mug towards him. She winked, "it's on the house."

[Woohoo and Haylifer: I can give the both of you mine, but I’m making a new name so it might be a while.]

The sunlight was fading, slowly dripping out of the shop bit by bit. The customers followed after the light, their pockets a little less full due to the ridiculously priced merchandise. That same diddy lit the room with a twisted cheer as the kerosene lamps were lit to greet night with open arms. As the sun stained the horizon with a scarlet wine, the last of the browsers exited the shop with a shining new gun. Aberle swiped the sullied rag across the dusty counter, leaving a sparkling brown streak in a sea of dull, gray-coated wood.

“My throat hurts,” he commented, tapping his fingers on counter. Dust flew around him, scattering into the desolate air. “Really bad. I think I need to go see the doctor. I might have a fever.” Aberle lightly touched his forehead with the back of his hand. “Oh my, I think I do…”

Aberle, you’re ridiculous. You don’t have a fever, Halse scoffed within the depths of Aberle’s mind. You felt fine all day long, you can’t just suddenly get sick.

Aberle inquired, feeling free to talk back to him in an average tone now that he was alone, “Is it cold in here, or is it just me?”

It’s all in your head.

“You’re all in my head,” Aberle grumbled back, tracing his jaw thoughtfully. “I’m going to see the doctor. See if I can’t get some medicine or something.”

He’s just going to tell you what I’ve been telling you this whole time: you’re not sick. Aberle said nothing back to this, only shut his mouth and carried on about closing up the shop. He locked the door to the storage room behind him, and glanced around the place. Every gun was impeccably lined against the walls, stacked in the neatest order by style and brand. Nothing was out of place. He grinned, normally there a collapsed shelf or two and guns littering the floors in a chaotic jumble, or at least a broken window. Then again—there was normally at least one idiot who decided to mess with Halse. The one Aberle was betting his money on today had turned away the notion to talk to the sheriff about the special weapons in the back of the shop. It had been a pleasant surprise. Perhaps Aberle was getting a reputation around Tumbleweed Valley?

Aberle chewed on his thumb as he exited Gallow’s Firearms. He hovered there at the doorway for a moment, debating on whether to lock up shop. He would be at a major risk for bandits, but often the other members of the Ugly would come in and help themselves to his stock. With a shrug he left the door unbolted, deciding that Halse would be able hunt and shoot down anyone who was stupid enough to try and steal from his stash.

A most delightful aroma swapped Aberle in the face. It was blessed with a scent of spices and freshly risen bread, and, by God, was that the smell of pie? He glanced at the bakery just across the street and nibbled on his thumbnail a bit more. To go ask for tasty sweets or to not go ask for tasty sweets?

That was a stupid question, Aberle thought, and was inside the bakery in mere seconds.

What happened to going to the doctor's...?

“Pepperrr!” Aberle purred as he entered the bakery, and he gave a polite gesture to her. “I see you’re baking…” How many times had he came into the bakery to pester Pepper to make him something sweet? He wasn’t sure. He knew he had a slice of her cake at least every other day…and in between he usually came in for something else like a piece of pie… Regardless, there he was again, and he’d be damned if he wasn’t going to get a slice of pie. “And I see that you have a lot of delicious food…here…” He gave a little smile that seemed to hint his true intentions.

As the sun was setting, giving the soft clouds in the sky a tint of pink around the edges, gradually changing into purple, a shadow swept along the back of the town livery stable.
Calista had just left her room above it, with the intention of sneaking into the stable - a building she herself owned - preferrably without being seen. It was all just a precaution. If anyone ever managed to connect the dots between the livery and the robbings of it's fairly wealthy customers shortly after leaving town, she didn't want anyone to having witnessed her going into the stable at odd hours. If anyone was watching the stable for some peculiar reason, it was better they saw a nameless, faceless shadow sneak into the building. That would do a good enough job of diverting all suspicions away from her.

Once inside, she moved slowly and carefully between the horses and carriages, examining the contents of the numerous bags, satchels, barrels and other things they were carrying. She liked the advantage it gave her. She didn't have to waste her time on holding up some piss poor traveling sod, but could instead focus on the professional gamblers and the successful traveling salesmen. True, most of the time all you'd have to do was look at them and you'd be able to tell if they'd be worth the effort or not, but there were some that had learned the dangers of looking wealthy.
By doing her little 'detective work', Calista easily found out who they were and could make plans accordingly.

This time she didn't find much of interest though, and with a frown she headed for the back door again. Stopping a moment before heading out, she adjusted her hat, making sure her light auburn locks were still hidden underneath it. There wasn't much point in dressing up in men's clothing if you left your long strands of rich bronze flowing down your back, was there?
But every lock of hair was neatly tucked into place, and Calista left the livery as discreetly as she had entered it.

She glided along the back of the Poppy Mill, before casually stepping out onto the Donkey Trail Road, as if she was just another common towns person out for a stroll in the cool evening air.
Glancing over at the school house, she saw the new teacher pass by the window in her quarters above the school. Calista hadn't officially met her, but she had seen her around town. She seemed like a nice lady. Thus, she didn't spark Calista's interest much, and so Calista started down Wagon Wheel Road, each step taking her closer to the Saloon. Further down the trail she could see Aberle, the owner of Gallow's Firearms, enter the bakery. It'd been some time since she stopped by the firearms shop. Maybe she should take a peek in there tomorrow? It was always interesting to see what Aberle had in stock. Plus, she needed ammunition. One could never have too much of that.

A couple of minutes later Calista entered the Saloon, and set course for a table in the back without even glancing at anyone. The truth was she didn't want to look up and reveal herself as being a woman. Being taken for a man made it so much easier to have a quiet drink. No drunkards trying to hit on her, and no wiseguys to challenge her to a drinking contest simply because she was a woman and therefore thought unable to hold her liqour. Sure, sometimes it amused her greatly to see them try to drink her under the table, and fail miserably, but tonight she wasn't in the mood.
She found herself a table in the shadows, and sat down, putting her boots up on one of the empty seats. There she lifted her head slightly, scanning the room from underneath the brim of her hat.

Roxy lay in her bed, half-asleep and half-awake. It had been another restless night due to the constant sound of pistols outside her window, and the Inn had been forced to close early in order to keep the fighting out. At least she had been able to make a few good sales to some of the usual drunkards.

"Roxy?"

Roxy felt herself jolt back to real life. That would be Jack, then. It was about time he came back. He'd been missing since the fight and she had been wondering where he was at. She decided not to reply, knowing he would just dispose of whatever gold he'd gotten in the bar or the cellar. Roxy would just be able to pick it up sometime in the afternoon.

In spite of this, she couldn't help but realize she was just wasting her time up in her attic-like bedroom, so she heaved herself out of bed and dressed herself in the first thing she could find. It ended up to be a rather lacey rouge dress that Jack had 'found' once. He obviously had no use for it, so he had given it to her. She had grown rather fond of the boy, although it wasn't in a romantic way. Roxy knew she was older than Jack and that it would never work out between them. But he was like a younger brother to her, and she enjoyed his company, despite his mysterious air.

Once she was dressed and her hair and face were presentable, Roxy made her way downstairs into the Inn, locking all the doors on the way. She took great pains to make sure that no one could get into her bedroom, as her share of the sales were stored up there.

"Good morning, John," Roxy nodded towards one of the regulars, a stiff old merchant who hadn't made a sale in years. "Mr. Smith, how is your wife?" She raised an eyebrow at another regular, an old man who seemed to be flirting wildly with a younger woman. He blushed and toned it down a bit. Roxy took her place behind the bar and began scrubbing at the dingy pint-sized glasses.

"You gunna watch me perform later?" asked the saloon girl, sliding Jack's refilled mug towards him. She winked "It's on the house."

Jack looked at the girl dressed in purple, noticing that she was maybe prettier than most good time gals, beneath all the makeup. "I wouldn't miss it." he assured her. Jack knew that he undoubtedly would miss it - not that he particularly objected to seeing the girl perform, but he knew he had other places to be than loitering round smokey, sleazy saloons filled with red-faced drunken men and prostitutes. Jack had promised himself one game of poker later, just enough to double the amount of gold he'd found today. At the moment, the poker tables were filled with novices and those trigger-happy thugs who shoot you if they lose. Jack was a cheater himself when it came to the game, but at least he covered it up well enough.

Glancing at the nearest table, Jack saw that the dealer was sat next to an empty chair. He stood up and crossed the room over to it, pulling his hat lower so the brim hid his eyes and throwing a few coins down on the table. "I'm in," he said in his low voice, smooth despite the fiery spirit he'd been drinking for the past eight years. The deck of rough, crinkled cards was passed to him and he shuffled them quickly, cutting the deck twice then dealing each of the worn-looking cowboys their hand. The cards clicked as they were dealt from the deck, Jack frowning in concentration. Five from the top.. One from the bottom.. Keep up the pace.. Five from the top.. One from the bottom.. Unknown to the drunken ranch hands, the two bottom cards were a pair of Aces, and somewhere near the top of the pack, Jack had planted the other pair just waiting to be dealt out. The cards came out as they should, and the men couldn't hide their excitement at the ace-pair well enough. One man even failed to supress a giggle, masking it with a hiccough. Jack eyeballed him. "Well?" he said, impatiently. The men each put their bets down in turn, none of them pulling out. Jack flashed his best sinister grin as they laid their cards. "Full house. Thankyou, men!" he said, scooping their money up before their astonished eyes and heading back over to the bar where the saloon girl in purple stood.

"So, Lolita, is it?" he asked her. "I never forget a pretty face. I've seen you around a lot here." He smiled, taking another mouthful of the potent, dark spirit. "Don't suppose you get much adventure then, locked up in a place like this?" his eyes glittered. "It's a huge world out there. Full of treasure to be found.." he said, thoughtfully.

Apsen awoke after a restless night. She hated sleeping, it was such a waste of life. Her clear, lovely, skin would hide the dark circles under her eyes. Peering through half-closed slits for eyes, she noticed her room becoming more and more dreary over the years. Perhaps it would soon be time for redecoration. She stretched her toes and headed to her dresser, puting on her uniform she'd sewn herself. That was of course her back up plan, to be a steamstress. Lolita had apparently woken up before her, as when she went to knock on her door, it just creaked open. Before heading downstairs to her customers, she tied her lustrous curly hair back and popped a peppermint in her mouth.

Her boots scraped against the ancient wooden stairs, and she smiled to see that there were already customers at such a weird time of the day. Attaining her position at the bar, she looked to the end to see a sullen, yet charming, Jack. He was her type; Obviously smart, crafty, emotional, and romantic. Cute and gloomy.It however seemed unlikely that he would be interested in hooking up with the bar skank. She sighed, and the sight of her brother spooked her. Cristen uttered "Small town" as he sipped on some drink, the menu had so many that it was too early in the day to remember which one. Lolita was eyeing him as well, in a totally different way though. How unfortunate. She leaned into Lolita's ear and whispered "He's not worth it, but go ahead." Smirking, she continued to look around the lounge. It took her a minute, but Calista was sitting in the back, hat brim over her eyes, pacing herself as she drank. Apsen found her a unique beauty, and she was jealous. She didn't have to show her "goods" to get a guys attention, and she envied that to an extreme.

She was too busy fighting her thoughts to notice that Jack had been flirting with Lolita. She swiftly, but slyly, approched him. Lolita was too dazzled by him to see what was coming, as Aspen had noticed his empty glass. Leaning on the counter facing him she asked, "Could I get you another drink? Re fills' on me, I own the place." She told him this, but not without inconspicuously glaring at Lolita as if to say 'back off'; at least for now.She hoped her plan would work, as her voice was said to be as intoxicating as her drinks. It was too early in the day to get that started, but she wouldn't hesitate if he returned tonight.

Lolita stepped back and signalled her body,

"If it's treasure you're looking for..." she joked with Jack, and began to giggle.

She noticed her best friend Aspen approaching him and returned to her usual business behind the bar; preparing more drinks for the red faced men at the bar. Lolita saw Aspen flirting with Jack and couldn't help laughing, instead turning her attention to the rest of the customers. Jack was a mysterious dark man with a strange air about him that made all girls go weak at the knees, especially when he turned on the charm: but Lolita refused to fall. Falling was dangerous. She had plenty of "male friends" who graced her room more than often but known of them was love; Lolita was a skank and trashy girls like her weren't worth the commitment of a guy. Still, she was only 19 and adventure was all she wanted, some looks from men helped too! She walked over to the other side of the bar and refilled Cristen's drink for him, leaning on the bar to chat to him, glancing out of the corner of her eye to see Aspen flirting more with Jack. It was typical of guys to chose her best mate, that's why her room was so much bigger! Lolita wandered if that guy who had come in a few times last month would be back: Halse. He was different to the other men, and rocked her headboard harder than the others.

Aspen noticed Lolita giving her smug looks as she returned to working. This irritated her, and she whirled her a final warning shot with her jaded emerald eyes. How could she be generous to her later if she was being an ass now?

Great RPs guys, I'm loving them! As of right now, I'm not putting a limit, but let's keep things to a reasonable size. :)

I thought I'd give 24 hours for initial roleplay. So I'm going to wait a few more hours, then I'll post what the gangs must do to prepare for the first challenge.
