The Baroque Court: A Royal RP
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/baroquecourt_edited-4.jpg
Welcome to the Baroque Court. Treacherous, poisonous and full of secrets, The Baroque Court consists of the beautiful Palace of Light & Air, as well as the Royal family and their “loyal” courtiers. There the dress is divine, the food delightful and every luxury you could possibly wish for is made available.
But the richness and opulence of a noble’s life comes at a price.
Bored, preening aristocrats are always seeking to gain favor with the elusive King, and do harm to other rival aristocrats. The merest hint of scandal attached to your name could mean banishment from Court, the loss of all your money and titles…or worse.
Are you savvy enough to survive life at the Baroque Court?
The Court – 1676 A.D. “The Advisor is dead!”
The King’s advisor is dead. The infamous Duc of Mollier was the most influential and wealthy man in Kingdom, all because of his trusted position as the King’s close confidante and advisor. Now, the King is looking among the aristocrats within his own court to fill the position…but who will it be? And what will the King’s nobles do to ensure that they are chosen as the King’s next advisor? Wealth, riches and power will belong to any aristocrat cut-throat enough to become the King’s advisor - as well as the satisfaction of besting all the other smug court aristocrats…
Background Information
The object of this RP is to make an aristocrat character, and then guide him/her into the position of the King’s Advisor. It won’t be easy, though. Other characters will be after the same thing, and might even try to get you banished from the Court, or have you stripped of all your titles and money, thus making you start all over again.
Secret alliances and backstabbing are part of the game. Not everyone has to want to be the King’s Advisor – you can team up and help people into the role if you want. The real courts of this time period were a teeming, infested viper’s nest of intrigue and debauchery. Have some fun with it!
The RP is set in the Baroque period (1640’s – early 1700’s).
NOTE: The word “courtiers” simply refers to a group of nobles that lives in the King’s Palace. Aristocrat and Noble are interchangeable words: they simply mean a person of great wealth or power.
The Role Play
The RP is measured in “days”. There will be a morning, afternoon and evening. There will be a post to let you know when it is morning, afternoon or evening. 1 “day” in the RP is considered 1 round.
POSTING LIMIT: Each post must have 8+ lines!
More info HERE (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1023876&postcount=30)
Rules
Obey all forum rules.
All posts must be related to the RP.
All characters must be adults or elders – no teens, kids or (heaven forbid) toddlers!
Only a Duc or Duchesse can become the King’s advisor.
All players must fill out a character application, and all applications must include a character picture (can be sims, or not).
Scandals
All characters, after the application round is over, will be PM’d scandals for their character. There are two types of scandals:
Major Scandals: These are scandals which have to do with infidelity, murder, treason and stealing from the King. These scandals, if found out, will get your character permanently banished from Court (i.e. you’re out of the game!).
Minor Scandals: These scandals have to do with petty flirtations, having an affair with a commoner, and dueling. The punishment for minor scandals is a “morality fine” of 50,000 livres and you get bumped down one title (ex: if you were a Comtesse, then you become a Baroness, etc.).
Every round (1 day in the RP), the Court Gossip (a playable character) will get to know 1 scandal about 1 aristocrat. You will get a PM from the Court Gossip, letting you know that he/she knows about your naughty behavior. You can then try to bribe the Court Gossip with money, a promise to do the Gossip a favor or do nothing. The Court Gossip, for his/her part, can either tell on you or not, even if you bribed or promised them something.
The Court Gossip will then PM me the scandals they wish to reveal to the Court. In the beginning of the next round, the King will then address the court and deal with the aristocrat, depending on the severity of the scandal.
IF you decide to bribe the Court Gossip, please PM me with the amount of money you bribed him/her.
IF you promised the Court Gossip a favor, then you MUST go through with the favor.
You can only PM the Court Gossip once with an offer.
Money
You start the game with a certain amount of money, but you can always increase it by asking the Court Accountant to give you more money. Possibly. The Court Accountant is an NPC (basically me, with a randomizer). You can only ask FOUR times for money from the Accountant in the entire gameplay, and each request is limited to a maximum of 20,000 livres. You must also have two rounds between each request.
If you need money from the Accountant, you need to make a post in the RP, formally asking for money. The request will be denied or approved (depending on what the randomizer chooses) in the same way.
The money is measured using the baroque French currency - livres (like modern day Euros or dollars).
Titles
If you’re not a Duc or Duchesse, you’ll need to become one at some point in order to “win” the RP. There are two ways to get a title: you can buy a title or be granted a title from the King.
Buying a title costs money, obviously. The price for going up one title from your own is 80,000 livres.
To be granted a title from the King, you have to get the Prince/Princess or the Queen Consort to suggest it to the King.
Suggestions
Every round (1 RP day), both the Queen Consort and the Prince/Princess will submit one suggestion to the King by PM. A randomizer will choose which request to grant and it will be announced in the RP in the morning post.
Suggestions will consist of:
Granting titles – he/she can suggest you go up one title from your own
Bestowing money – a maximum amount of 40,000 livres
Banishment – if the Queen Consort or the Prince/Princess get mad enough at you, they can suggest you be banished from Court.
The way to get suggestions is to schmooze up the Queen Consort or the Prince/Princess. They’ll do it if they like you enough, maybe!
Roles
ALL roles are first come, first serve (except for the King). Be a Duc, Duchesse, Queen Consort, Baroness, whatever you choose. There is one open slot for the special titles like Queen Consort, The Prince/Princess, and the Court Gossip. There are 5 empty slots for the other titles (Duc, Comte, etc). After one title is completely filled up, there can be no more applications for that title! 1 character per player, please. Try to spread yourselves out evenly. It won't be fun if we have all Ducs and Duchesses!
The King
Edouard Auguste Louis Rotherham IV
Age: 42
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1156/1423939058_ac8673af5c.jpg
Practical and intelligent, Edouard leans heavily upon his wife, Isabella, and his only daugther, Adalita, for advice now that his beloved Duc of Mollier is gone.
An NPC. Again, me with a randomizer! The King heads up the Court, and lets his courtiers know who’s been banished, given money, promoted, etc.
Queen Consort
The wife of the King. She wields tremendous influence in Court, because she can make suggestions to the King, which can be helpful for any aristocrats looking for favors, titles or money. This character is barred from becoming the King’s advisor, however.
1. Queen Isabella Rotherham - {Shenanigans} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1023603&postcount=14)
The Princess
The King’s heir. She has the King’s ear, which means she might be able to do you a favor, if you want it. She is also barred from becoming the King’s advisor.
1. Princess Adalita Rotherham - {GeeWayRocks} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1023749&postcount=22)
The Court Gossip
There’s always one, in every group. The Court Gossip knows all the juicy scandals of the aristocracy, but what’s to stop her from telling the King?
It’s important to remember: the Court Gossip does NOT have a title and starts the game bankrupt. She is shunned by the others aristocrats for being a gossip and not having a title, so maybe all she wants is for you to include her in your little circle of friends… She is also barred from becoming the King’s advisor.
1. Mercy Flight - {Fayreview} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1023687&postcount=17)
Ducs & Duchesses
The highest level of the aristocrats; they have the most money and power. However, they also come with Major Scandals. If the scandal of a Duc or Duchesse is revealed by the Court Gossip, it is immediate banishment from the game. They begin the game with 80,000 livres.
1. Silvius Peitou-Charentes - {stylequeen} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1024116&postcount=38)
2. Annelise De L'orrine - {RubyAmbition} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1024146&postcount=43)
3. Marie Clothilde di Bourbon-Parma - {kipsnif} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1025097&postcount=72)
4. Madeline Ronson - {ElektraNatchios33} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1025524&postcount=79)
5. Anabella St. James - {PennyTheCorgi} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1028397&postcount=132)
Comtes & Comtesses
The second level of aristocrats; still powerful, but not as quite. Depending on the randomizer, they come with either Major or Minor Scandals. It’s a grab-bag, really. They begin the game with 60,000 livres.
1. Gabriel-Lucien Molyneux d'Abri-sur-Mer - {Fluid} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1023821&postcount=26)
2. Felix Delarue Peitou-Charentes - {Haylifer} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1023930&postcount=32)
3. Anastasie-Amélie Du Rousseau - {photo_me2004} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1027401&postcount=124)
4.
5.
Barons & Baronesses
The third and last level of aristocrats. Not very powerful and not as rich. These aristocrats come with Minor Scandals. They begin the game with 40,000 livres.
1. Adela Varens - {lifesacupcake} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1023587&postcount=12)
2. Claudio Geminani - {123321} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1024438&postcount=62)
3. Roseline Taylor - {funheart00} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1028785&postcount=136)
4.
5.
Untitled Characters
These people have no titles – they might be wealthy landowners, but they lack a title to advance at Court. They are adressed as plain ‘Mr. and Mrs.’ They have no scandals. They begin the game with 20,000 livres.
1. Octavien Lahance - {Atropa} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1023643&postcount=15)
2. Rhiana Silversmit - {innoscenteyes} (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1024094&postcount=35)

Wow eternal! I am amazed at the amount of thought that went into this. I want to join, but I know I suck at being cut throat. Eh, maybe I'll get lucky and get a title that doesn't have to fight for the "title". If not perhaps I'll make a good "stool" for someone. *sigh* I give in... I'm off to visualize a character. Although, it's a little tough to get a good feel for them, when we don't know if they'll be royalty, or common folk, or somewhere in between.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
Oh, and I have a question;
It says at the bottom of the first post that titles will be assigned "after applications are submitted". Does that in fact mean after we have submitted our application, or does it mean apps have been closed? Because if we find out the title asap, it might be easier to then elaborate on the character, and get a feel for them before the actual RP begins?

Yeah, I probably should have elaborated on that - I meant after applications have closed. The only reason I did it that way was because I thought if I had open applications (i.e. you could choose your own title), a lot of people would be Ducs and Duchesses, and we wouldn't have too many people at the lower ends.
However... I'm going to change it. I'll allow you to assign your title yourself. It'll make things easier, I think, and people will have less trouble coming up with characters. :) I just have to go edit the main post... Yikes! I hope I didn't just lose too much credit as a GM there!

Well, you may be right about everyone wanting the same title, but what I meant was that you don't have to wait for applications to close before assigning titles. You could just do it whenever someone has submitted their app. Meaning, as soon as someone submit their app, you fire up the randomizer to decide their title. Then you let them know, either through PM or in the thread, and they can add the title to their application, and elaborate on their bio as they get a better feel for the character?
Know what I mean?
It's just a suggestion though. :)

eternal, I completely understand why you planned on assigning the character roles yourself. There are some roles that everyone will pine after, and then if those aren't available, others may be discouraged from entering.
I am NOT trying to cause you trouble, really I'm not. I know what you go through as a GM. lol But I'm even MORE confused now. So are the special titles (ie queen, prince etc.) going to be randomly given out, or are those first come first serve. It's just I'd LOVE to be queen, but if I know I won't be, I kind of want to make a lower class male. But making a lower class male would completely lock me out of the queen role. lol
I know this is my own decision I must make. Guess I just want to know how the 'special' characters will be handed out.
Again, I apologize. I know these things look great on paper or in our heads. Then you expose it to the public at large and it's not so clear to them. lol

I know, it was so great in my head! ;) Not so much in the forum, though! And you're not causing me trouble - it's good learning experience.
Anyway - yes, ALL roles are first come, first serve. Even the special titles like Queen Consort, The Prince/Princess and The Court Gossip.

Oh, now I see your post! ;) Thanks for the suggestion - I think I'm going to leave it the way it is now, because I don't want to change it too much and confuse people. Hopefully, it'll work out just fine.

Name: Isabella Rotherham
Age:23
Title:Queen
Personality: Queen Isabella has two very different sides to her. Which side you are allowed to see depends on your status, and how attractive she finds you. She knew a daughter's job was to marry well, to bring good political ties into the family. When she received the attention and adoration of the much older King Rotherham, she knew what she'd have to do. During the day Isabella plays her part as the devoted, loyal wife to the king. She knows just what it takes to make him happy, and is an absolute angel in his eyes. However he does not meet her deepest desires and by night she goes in search of her own fulfilment. A young man whom she fancies would gain a great ally in the kingdom.
Just make sure whatever you do, you don't upset her. Or perhaps you'll share the fate of the Duc of Mollier.

The first died somehow (perhaps in child birth) and so the prince/princess could be from the first wife? I'm sorry if I'm being difficult. I just want the queen to have some fun. lol

Name: Octavien Lahance
Age: 21
Title: untitled
Personality:
Octavien was a young man with a hunger for nothing more than fun and adventure. Unfortunately, this lead to quite a few precarious situations, and after having been seen leaving the bedroom of one too many married women, his parents sent him away from home, to the court, in the hopes of having him discover that there's more to life than just having "fun". And he did. He discovered power, and the perks of having friends in high places. Now he has his mind set on earning a title, one way or another, and although still a carefree thrill-seeker and libertine, he can also be a cunning, ambitious trickster. He's watching the aristocrats and learning what he can from them. And the higher the title, the bigger his interest. Thus, he has taken a special interest in the Queen herself.

Fayreview,
1. Yes, you get to choose whose scandals you want to hear.
2. Everyone gets one scandal at the beginning of the game. However, the Court Gossip can also start vicious rumors (true or untrue) about people, that may hurt their chances at advancement.
3. Sure - you can keep tallies of how much money people have paid you. It'll be interesting to see how many people pay out. :)
Shenanigans, that's perfectly fine. I see GeeWayRocks's application already reflects that, too. Makes it more dramatic anyway with with the whole Stepmother-Stepdaughter conflict! :)
Also, Rotherham is fine for a last name!
As for reservations, umm... I should have said specifically I wouldn't allow them. From here on out, please have an application ready (it doesn't have to be finished - just a name, title and brief bit of personality) when you want to claim a character. You can come back later and edit and/or add a picture.

Heh, yeah! I can see it already. The queen is facinated with man A. But man A seeks the favor of the younger princess. Queen is angered by man A. lol Oh yeah... drama central!
I have a question for ya eternal, regarding the King. I understand he's basically your randomizer as an NPC when it comes to making decisions. I wonder however about the RP aspect of him? I ask because their may be times where the Queen and the Princess need to/want to interract with him. Are you going to RP his character, or is that something where GeeWayRocks and I just would godmod the King's Character?

Name: Gabriel-Lucien Molyneux d'Abri-sur-Mer
Age: 77
Title: Comte
Personality: As the Comte d'Abri-sur-Mer, Gabriel-Lucien has outlived three generations of Molyneux. He has a reputation as a humorless and unforgiving man, though one of wide intellect and discerning taste; under his generous patronage the careers of many artists, politicians and thinkers have prospered, but just as many have been crushed by his merciless judgment. He maintains an extensive, world-wide correspondence. He is himself a scholar and poet of deep and subtle thought. As well as a philosopher and patron, the Comte d'Abri-sur-Mer was also a decorated soldier and General in the French army, in particular distinguishing himself leading the cavalry during the Battle of Rocroi, part of the Thirty Years' War, in 1643. He is, informally, sometimes called Le Philosophe-Général. He lives by a strict, personal code of honor and decorum, and has little tolerance for frivolity or weakness. Perhaps by sheer force of will alone, Gabriel-Lucien has managed to stave off the madness which has been the Molyneux legacy for hundreds of years...or has he?

eternal_sunshine
22nd Sep 2007, 03:29 PM
Fayereview - You PM me the scandals you would like to reveal, and the King addresses the entire Court in the 'morning' post.
For playing RP-ing purposes, he only lets himself talk to his Queen and his daughter. Shy guy. ;)
I've edited the rules a little to make that more clear.
eternal_sunshine
22nd Sep 2007, 04:03 PM
This is what the average "day" will look like in the Court. 1 day = 1 round. Each segment - morning, afternoon and evening - should last about two-three real-life days each. So, morning will last 2-3 days, afternoon will last 2-3 days, and so on.
Morning
The King addresses the entire Court in one post. Scandals are revealed to the Court, and the offending character(s) are dealt with according to the severity of the scandal.
Then, freeform roleplay. The Court Gossip learns of two new scandals.
Afternoon
There's a small admin notice to let everyone know it's afternoon. So, RP accordingly.
Evening
Again, a small admin notice to let everyone know it's evening. RP accordingly. If you have a special title, this is when you PM me your information (suggestions and scandals).

Young, bored and rich, Felix prides himself on being the most charming and witty man in Southern France. He has met everyone worth knowing in upper-class Europe and bedded a substantial number of them. The women, anyway.
His elder brother Silvius, much less aesthetically-blessed than he and eternal archrival to Felix, is rumoured to have set his sights on Princess Adalita. Ever up for a challenge, Felix also adjusted his target accordingly. After all, what woman could resist his charm and affinity to females? He's already placed bets amongst his friends that he will win over the Princess, and her stepmother, and any other close female relatives. A fairly attractive second cousin or two, perhaps.

And eternal, I have another question. I'm just curious to know more about how the Gossiper Role is handled. If someone pays her a large amount of money to be quiet, and she agrees, but then goes and tells anyway... is there any repercussions?

eternal - Another question; what's your stance on actual love affairs/adultery during the course of the RP? I mean, you said some of the scandals would be about adultery etc, so I'm just wondering how that'll work with the possible adultery happening in the actual RP?
Don't know if I'm making sense here, but... Committing adultery (or doing anything else immoral) in-game, will that count as a scandal? Or will it just be part of the RP, and the only scandals we should fear being revealed are the ones handed out by you?
Am I at all making sense?

Atropa, Shenanigans, you guys are making perfect sense. :) Doing anything immoral, in game, will just be part of the RP. The only scandals you need to worry about hushing up are the ones I give you. Still, if your character engages in any naughty behavior (infidelity, etc.) the Court Gossip can spread rumors about that, and that may effect your in-game relationships and chances of becoming the advisor.

*raises hand with another question* (You'll smack me one of these times. lol)
I was just wondering, if there will be a simple layout of the palace given when the RP starts? (As if you don't have enough to do already.) I'm kind of wondering if everyone lives in the same large palace, or if there's houses on site. Guess I just want to know my surroundings. :)
eternal_sunshine
25th Sep 2007, 06:11 AM
Shenanigans, yes there will be a simple map of the Palace & the Palace grounds made available before the RP begins. Don't worry, I won't let you guys wander around blind! ;)
And, historically, how the French court system worked was that all the courtiers (nobles of the court) lived in the Palace with the Royal Family. Everyone was given their own suite of rooms - kind of like a modern day hotel. So...everyone lived in one central building - the Palace.
I'll get the map up as soon as my limited Photoshop skills allow! :) And you ask awesome questions, so never worry. It keeps me on my toes. :P

I have to agree with everyone, eternal_sunshine: the avatars are awesome. I've just started to make a sim story, and I've gained a new appreciation for those of you who can manipulate images well--it took me hours to make only 5 pics!
I'll add a question for you to the list:
One of the options to bribe the Gossip is to promise to do a favor. I assume that those favors are things that would be roleplayed--say, promising to take the Gossip to the ball, or introduce the Gossip to your friends, or stick up for the Gossip, things like that?
For the sake of a brief, silly example:
The Comte d'Abri-sur-Mer removed the iron chest from it's hiding place, unlocked the intricate silver lock, and removed an envelope sealed with gold wax. He handed it to Mercy, barely concealing his grimace.
"Here, as promised, is the Molyneux secret recipe for spinach quiche. It has been passed down in my family since the time of Charlemagne without alteration. I trust that you will trade your silence for such a treasure?"
Mercy quickly deposited the envelope in her bosom. "Why, Gabriel-Lucien, the value of this recipe more than influences me to forget your minor transgressions. I, of course, cannot approve of stealing candy from small children, but as long as you satisfy your confectionary lust with a bit more discretion, I see no reason to cause a scandal in the court."

Here's one of the sites I liked if anyone is interested. Most sites I found are all about the music and the art of the era. I wanted things that more pertained to woman's life, as after all, the queen is a woman.

I'm sure there's better stuff out there, but I still need to keep searching.

Hopefully our characters won't have to slip into various French lingo and sayings.. All I rembember is Bon soir mon petit pain and Voila mon ouvert. And I think that more accurately means, "Evening, my little bread" and "Ta dah, my eggs!"..
Good news! I have a headshot. It will be up shortly once Photobucket starts being nice.

I admit that I am a non-suave, unsophisticated, boring, plain American. I can't even say half these names everyone has come up with! Thank heavens for cut and paste. But I wonder how we will all come to call each other. (Meaning first name or last or last two, or middle three.) Because I seriously doubt we'll be using the full names.
Also, thanks for answering yet another question of mine eternal. Like I said, I know nothing about French history. I stayed up last night reading about the etiquette of the Baroque period though. :) So maybe I get some points for effort. Maybe.
If we would use french court rules
then these are the rules of Versailles (the French Royal Palace)
1. People who wanted to speak to the king could not knock on his door. Instead, using the left little finger, they had to gently scratch on the door, until they were granted permission to enter. As a result, many courtiers grew that fingernail longer than the others;
2. A lady never held hands or linked arms with a gentleman. Besides being in bad taste, this practice would have been impossible because a woman’s hooped skirts were so wide. Instead, she was to place her hand on top of the gentleman’s bent arm as they strolled through the gardens and chambers of Versailles. It is also mentioned that the ladies were only allowed to touch fingertips with the men.
3. When a gentleman sat down, he slid his left foot in front of the other, placed his hands on the sides of the chair and gently lowered himself into the chair. There was a very practical reason for this procedure. If a gentleman sat too fast, his tight trousers might split;
4. Women and men were not allowed to cross their legs in public;
5. When a gentleman passed an acquaintance on the street, he was to raise his hat high off his head until the other person passed;
6. A gentleman was to do no work except writing letters, giving speeches, practising fencing, or dancing. For pleasure he engaged in hawking, archery, indoor tennis, or hunting. A gentleman would also take part in battle and would sometimes serve as a public officer, paying the soldiers;
7. Ladies’ clothing did not allow them to do much besides sit and walk. However, they passed the time sewing, knitting, writing letters, painting, making their own lace, and creating their own cosmetics and perfumes.
How to call:
King: His Majesty
Queen: Her Majesty
Princess: Her Royal Highness
For all the other persons I think you would say there title and then the place of what they're Duch/Duchess/...
Like: Duc Peitou-Charentes
Baronesse Varon

Fluid: That’s right - that’s a perfect example of a favor. It’s simply a social favor in the RP. Your well-written example is right on target!
Kipsnif: You didn’t have to change your character! It’s true, I based this RP off of Louis XIV’s court, but it didn’t have to be historically accurate! ;) Ah, well, I’ll put up your changed information on the front page. Also, thanks for the etiquette post - with your permission, I’d like to link it under the Resources part of the main page, so everyone can see it. :)
Shenanigans, thanks for the link! That is a pretty good overview site. Like you said, a lot of information about the Baroque period focuses on architecture, music and art. If you search under ‘Louis XIV’ ‘Baroque culture’ and ‘17th century France’ you’ll get more social information.
Fayreview, yes you can barter. :) You are going to be quite a terror, aren't you?

General Fashion Info
Baroque dress was very ornate, and hyper-feminine. Women, who had little chance to express themselves otherwise, often did so through the secret language of dress. Bold, adventurous women wore dresses with extremely low necklines, which exposed a great deal of (controversial) cleavage. More ‘moral’, pure women, wore a transparent, gauzy netting over their bodice, so as not to reveal any actual skin.
Men’s dress of this time was very sober. Dark colors were favored, and hair was often worn loose - in long, lustrous curls. If men did not possess naturally long, curly hair, they wore wigs.
Getting dressed was not like today - if you were an aristocrat it took a, literal, army of servants to dress you. At the very least, to get dressed you would need 8 or 9 servants doing your hair, make-up and stitching you into your clothing - male or female. The simple act of getting ready for the day took hours of preparation.
Aristocrats also changed clothing, at least twice a day. Morning clothing was simple, and of soft, pale colors with little ornamentation. Evening clothing - ball gowns for women and full court dress for men - was very elaborate, and rich in decorative detail. This was a time for people to show off their wealth, fashion sense, extravagant jewelry and intricate hairstyles.

innoscenteyes, then I guess we know what kind of 'lady' your sim is! ;)
Fayreview, you get decide how you dress. You're broke, though, so the quality of your clothing might not be so fine. The main goal of everyone who wasn't an aristocrat, but wanted to hang out with them, was to imitate to their beautiful dressing style.
Really, all that clothing stuff was a reference point, only. If you don't follow it, there's no penalty. Just make sure your character is vaguely attuned to the times (no cell phones! no miniskirts! no microwaves or netspeak!), and you'll be fine.

Name: Anastasie-Amélie Du Rousseau (feel free to just call her Anastasie)
Age: 22
Title: Comtesse
Personality: Firey and beautiful, Anastasie has captured the hearts of many of the men the French court since gaining her title upon the death of her parents. Though she does not seem to show any interest in the advances of the men, she does have a suspicious amount of female friends who gather in her rooms for long, late night "talks". The Palace of Light & Air
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/1stfloorBC121.jpg
1st Floor
Grand Salon; Red Salon; Blue Salon
Salons are places where people go to meet others, have a leisurely chat and get to know others. ALL the salons are richly furnished; they are set up with chairs, love seats, sofas, bookshelves with books, and a piano for anyone who can play.
The Grand Salon (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/Grandsalon.jpg)

Grand Diningroom
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/granddiningroom.jpg
This is where meals are served. You may take your meal separately, or with others.
Stables
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/Stables.jpg
All the horses are kept here. If you have a horse, or wish to borrow one to go riding, visit the stables.
Suites
These are your private living quarters. Your suite has your character's name next to it. 'Decorate' your suites in any fashion you choose!
Personal Suites:
Silvius (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/alchymist2.jpg)

Upper Servant's Quarters
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/upservants.jpg
This room is for servants who personally serve the aristocrats. If you have a personal servant, this is where they would sleep. For RP characters who are servants, this is where you would stay, also. Upper Servant's Quarters are very small and very sparsely furnished.
The Forest
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/forest.jpg
A favorite past-time of many nobles was to go hunting in the woods. Take a shooting party, go solo or just take in nature's delightful sights with a refreshing walk.
Palace Gardens
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/garden.jpg
A popular past-time for lovers and ladies was to go walking in the Palace Gardens. There are paths to walk on, and a maze that your character might get lost in!
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/2ndfloorB1C.jpg
2nd Floor
Queen's Salon
A place for the Queen and the Princess to entertain their...intimate circle of friends. Yes, they must share!
Queen's Suite
The bedroom of the Queen. Lavish, huge and very, very royal. The Queen's servants would also sleep here.
Princess's Suite
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/Adalita.jpg
The bedroom of the Princess. The Princess's servants would sleep in her room, as well.
King's Suite and Salon
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/Kingsalon.jpg
The King's private suite and entertaining quarter. Not open to the general Court.

Basement Level
Lower Servant's Quarters
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/loservants.jpg
This is where the lowest of the low servants would reside: kitchen wenches, groomsman, cooks, etc. Grungy, dirty and crowded.
Servant's Dining
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/servantsdining.jpg
Where the lower servants take their meals.
Kitchen
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/kitchens.jpg
The kitchen of the Palace. This is where all the meals get made.
Laundry/Supply Room
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e30/careless_gemma/supply.jpg
This is where dirty clothes become clean and mended; all supplies for the Palace are here, also.

And I found some other Protocol :anime:
Protocol:
1. The King is all day surouned by his servants. He got almost no time for himself.
2. Every Morning the King is woken up by his first servant, just by the words "Sire, voilà l'heure" (Sire, it's the hour).
3. Every morning the king was examined by the first courtdoctor. The whole royal family watching.
4. When the King walking trough the "Galerie des Glaces" to the Capel, the aristocrats could ask him a favor. If the kind would say "I have never seen that person at the court before" it ment he wouldn't do it. (we neither have a Galerie or Capel but maybe you could do it on another way)
5. The highest favor was always something of honor, like bedrooms. The King would chose where the aristocrats would sleep, and how big it was. The name of the aristocrat would come on the door. On this way:
Normally: de Baroness Taylor
For the more important: Madame de Baroness Taylor
Or the most important and the thing everbody wanted: pour Madame de Baroness Taylor
There is more!!!! But I have no time right now :taekwondo

I've made a slight change to the rules - instead of hearing two scandals per round, the Court Gossip will get to hear just one. I think it'll be less work for our poor, overworked Gossip, and let the game go at a little more leisurely pace!
Edit: Thanks kipsnif for the etiquette! I'll link it to the main page. :)

More Protocol xD
6. Another favor were chairs :D Al ducs and duchesses, royalty (just the Kings, Queens and direct Princesses and Princes) had the right on a tabouret (http://www.insecula.com/oeuvre/photo_ME0000060036.html), or this one (http://www.insecula.com/oeuvre/photo_ME0000059850.html) when the King or Queen was aroud. Al the other people had to stand (also the peolple who were married to someone with one of those high titles.). The higher the title, how better the chair. The best was for the queen (fauteuil). That was a chairs with arms. The second best was a chair with high back, only for the inner circle around the king and queen. and then we have the tabouret again.
7. The King gave a fest 3 times a week. On such a fest the King would play pool. He invited all the invited people to play with him. Even the rich citizen. It was a great honor to loose from nobilty for a rich citizen. All the guests were personaly invited be the king himself.
Because the fests are mostly with hundereds of people. Fests with over 600 guests are given in the garden because the palace is mostly to small for such a fest (It must be the dresses!!)
(All this protocol are from versailles, probably the palace with the weirdest protocol and etiquette ever existed. Most of the other european court -protocol and -etiquette is simpler (exept for the Dutch dress etiquette, that extremely confusing)

I haven't been on lately, due to -insert word- internet problems.. -cough- but I'll be lurking around... maybe.

okay. I see someone asked for Marisol's personal assistance. Really, it doesn't matter, but seeing Marisol is one of the only maids.. she still will be around the palace a lot (you know, laundry, helping cooks, carrying the food to the royal dining room.. etc).

September 3, 1676 A.D.
The King surveyed the group of nobles seated, and standing, before him. Black gloves clutched elegantly in his hand, he was dressed immaculately in a red, riding outfit - his long hair was heavily powdered and pulled back with a black ribbon, edged with silver. He stood, at ease, before the huge, gold leaf fireplace - unlit now because the autumn was just beginning, and it wasn’t nearly cool enough to sit beside a roaring fire.
It was his aristocratic courtiers who caught his attention, though. Some were new faces, of course, but others were people he had known for years. Were any of them up to the task he had in mind? He scanned each face quickly, and a little despairingly, and wondered how he would ever manage to replace his old, trusted friend - the Duc of Mollier. Which one of these nobles could possibly fill the Duc’s place as his, the King’s, new advisor?
“The King speaks,” he called out languidly, and it was all that was needed for the room to become utterly silent.
“As you have all become aware, the mourning period for our good friend, the Duc of Mollier, has recently come to an end. As much as we treasured his service to us, we must look to the future now. Our cabinet needs a new advisor - and only one of our courtiers will do. In the coming days, we will look among you to choose our new advisor.”
His countenance was grave, and his words were brisk and serious. There was nothing of levity or humor about him.
“Our advisor must be free of all major scandals. We wish to hear nothing unsavory brought to our attention - we will not have a tainted advisor, ladies and gentlemen.”
The King lightly slapped his riding gloves against his thigh, getting up and moving out of the room. As he walked by, each courtier dipped into a deep, seemingly respectful bow. The King looked over, and briefly caught the eyes of his young, lovely wife, the Queen Consort, and his pretty daughter, the Princess Adalita.
“We are to be riding for the morning,” he called out, as he left. His voice was heavy with distaste. “We do not wish to be disturbed by the petty concerns of the Court.”
He left the entire Court in the Grand Salon, still in silence, to enjoy their morning.

Marisol Chavéz stood still, her head down, eyes directed at the beautiful, clean marble floor as the King, Queen and Princess Adalita stepped out of the room. Personally, she didn't know the advisor quite well, but at the looks of it, he seemed like a very well character with a positive and well-mannered attitude. She had spotted him now and then between Laundry doings and dustings of sort, and exchanged a fair "hello" and a bit more words as well.
Marisol's hair was loose and her white and brown (with a hint of black) gown was perfect. Not a wrinkle in sight, and warm enough for the cool, autumn season. The salon was decorated with copper chandliers, glass tinted windows and many, clean statues.
Out the window, she saw trees of brown and red, leaves of yellow and orange dancing in the wind, falling carefully and slowly to the ground, in a swinging motion. Swift as they were, almost happy to be free, but inside the palace, it was not the same.
Even so the Duc of Mollier was dead, she was relieved to have a break from her duties. Cleaning and helping - sure, sometimes, but Marisol wasn't here because she wanted. The pathetic large debt her father carelessly continued to enlarge was the reason. Even though he was dead.
The slam of the great, grand doors made her lift her delicate head to see. Everyone was still silent, although some made their way across the marble floor to talk with one another. She felt lonely.

Claus stood obediently in the shadows of the court, surveying the crowd that had turned out. It was obvious that the title of Advisor to the King had appeal to a wide audience of gentlefolk. But to Claus? No, he was perfectly happy with his role in the court. Besides, in his opinon, no man or woman could possibly step into the shoes of the Duc of Mollier. He had been a gentle man, but one who could lay down a firm hand upon lawbreakers. It wasn't that Claus had known him so well, but he had entertained for him at many a dinner, and the Duc had never left without giving Claus a hearty round of applause.
Claus was not the only one out of the way of this morning's festivities. He noticed his room mate, Marisol, standing alone by the grand doorway. Since she had joined him in the upper servant's quarters, the days had become a little less lonely and a little more fun. They always managed to sneak some desserts out of the kitchen and often talked to each other during breaks. Occasionally they would talk to each other through the long, cold autumn nights. He assisted her whenever he could, knowing that she was overworked in this household.
He walked casually over to Marisol, knowledgable that not an eye was on them. No one ever paid much attention to the maid or the jester, unless laundry needed folding or there were balled-up socks to be juggled.
"Good morning, Marisol," he smiled at her and gestured towards the stairwell. "Will you be needing help with the breakfast dishes? Or perhaps the cleaning? I think these stuffy barons can entertain themselves until the morning chores are over."
((I hope it's okay that I made Marisol and Claus buddies. :)))

Adalita followed her father and step-mother to the stables, and with a little help, mounted her horse. Riding was one of her favourite things to do, it gave her time to think. A lot of people were now fighting for place of her father's advisor, and it was annoying to her. There were so many people talking to her father when she tried to talk to him, about her marriage. She couldn't get a minute alone with him. Even though she had come to a decision, he just didn't have time to hear it. Now she had time with him, she was reluctant to say.

"Hello Claus," she smiled. "since when do you help?" she teased. She looked at her dress, the marble floor and back at her friend.

"Henriette.." I whispered into the velvetty mocha tresses of hair, kissing the soft skin beneath them.
"Oh, Monsieur!" my mistress sighed, before letting out a girlish giggle. I stopped my wooing suddenly - giggling! All women did it without fail, and I failed to see what was so amusing about my skills of lovemaking. It was like going to bed with a hyena.
"Good lord, what's the time?" I said hurriedly, jumping up from between the sheets and wrapping a silk banyan around my body to preserve modesty. "Right Henriette, off you go. You know the more discrete way out, yes? Good. Pierre?" I called out for my manservant as the inexpensive prostitute behind me gathered her few clothes together.
"Oui, Monsieur?" came the reply, as a short, greasy fellow entered my suite.
"I told you not to let me sleep in past eight," I hissed. "This woman charges by the hour. Anyway, the King's Morning Address is to begin in little under half an hour, and I haven't an idea of what to wear. The Princess will be there, and Roseline, Adela, Annelise and Madeline, Queen Isabella, the lovely Madame Flight and Anastasie - I'm certain she has a thing for me."
"Elisabeth visited earlier this morning" said Pierre. "She says if Monsieur Felix does not pay the extra 200 livres owed to her, she'll tell the courts of your unhealthy habits."
"Elisabeth? I've told her before, I don't owe her a single franc. Certainly not for all the horrible things she claims I wanted to do. And it's Comte Felix now, thankyou."
I waved Pierre off to clean or whatever he does when I'm not watching, and found my claret-red shirt. I pulled it on, coupling it with black breeches. This would look stunning with my new embroidered jacket, a new number from Italy. I stood back and admired myself in the mirror - The ladies of court wouldn't be able to keep their eyes off me, I told my reflection smugly. Suddenly, I spotted a rogue lock of hair hanging loosely to one side, undoubtedly disturbed from its place by last nights.. activity. Frowning, I licked my hand and coaxed it back into position alongside its co-tresses. It jumped back up like a salmon, most annoyingly as I had little under ten minutes to stand before the King in his Address, and off with my head if I were late for the fifth time in a row. With a sigh of resignation, I left the rebellious hair as it was and began my descent to the Grand Salon.
"Bonjour, Mademoiselle Varens" I said with a deep bow, as I passed the lady on the way flashing her a cheeky grin. Finally, I reached the oak door marking one of the several entrances to a corridor leading to the Grand Salon itself. I sped along, checking my pocket watch as I paced and noticing that already I was late. Cursing quietly, I entered the grand hall filled with elaborate people, elaborate furniture and of course, the noble King with his gracious Queen at his side. Princess Adalita was nearby; I flashed her a wink, hoping the move was not too bold. If it was, I could cover it up as a nervous tic or such.
I sought out Anastasie, finding her dressed in a stunning gown that beautifully accentuated her lovely.. auburn hair. I found that low neckline quite fascinating, I would have to pass compliments to the tailor of the fine garment.
"Comtesse Du Rousseau, what fine attire you possess." I don't doubt you would look even more fine without it. I smirked at the unvoiced thought, turning to listen to the King's speech as his majesty called attention. It would appear that there was need for a new advisor to His Majesty. I played around with the thought, imagining myself at the King's side, persuading him over whatever deeds or favours I required.. more land, more women, more wine.. Again I smiled, it all sounded splendid news to me. Although under closer surveillance from the King, my frivolous nightly pastimes might have to be collared slightly. Nothing too problematic of course, I would be in an excellent position to take any wife I wanted. A clean woman, who would do whatever I asked. And cook for me, and clean, and spend all my fortunes and domineer me, and bear me children.. I shuddered at the thought of little Felixes running about my ankles chaining me to a life of abstinence.
"Never. Never in a million years, I refuse." I said, speaking aloud accidentally. Someone nearby made a slight hem noise in query of my thoughts. I turned to see Annabella, one of the finest Duchesses in court.. "Duchess Annabella! One can only hope your morning has been as fair as Madamoiselle Duchess herself." I winked again. Perhaps the court will eventually come to decision that I have a nervous tic. "I hear recent news that my estranged brother, Silvius, was caught with a lady of a certain kind recently. I do hope this is a false claim, for his noble sake." My gaze drifted from her made-up eyes further downstream.. I forced them back up, disguising my error with a hopefully winning smile.

"Today I have to clean out the entire red salon. Do you like disinfecting things?"
"Disinfecting is one of my favorite pastimes!" Claus chuckled, leaning up against the wall. "Almost as fun as scrubbing down the fireplaces." He glanced out the window, noting that the beautiful Princess Adalita was just entering the stable. His and Her Majesty were already mounting their handsome horses. All around them, stableboys groomed the remaining horses, most of the majestic creatures belonging to inhouse residents.
Just beyond the stables was the deep and lush forest, rich with game and lovely plantlife. Claus wasn't often permitted to enter the forest, but when he was, he took his time smelling the faint scent of pine and roses. And now in the heart of autumn, when the trees were colorful and the flowers were at full bloom, he couldn't help but feel a bit jealous of the same stuffy barons whom he often laughed at.
"Shall we get to it then?" Claus broke his gaze away from the window and turned back to Marisol with a smile. "I would hate to waste a moment that could be spent with a dirty rag and a bucket of soapy water."

Marie Clothilde had been standing just meters away from the King trough this morning routine. Next to Comtes Molyneux d'Abri-sur-Mer. For Marie Clothilde this was already normal for quite some years, but it's her first to actually sleep in the palace.
"The King is an interesting man, isn't he Duchess??" a low, deep voice said next to Marie. The Comtes d'Abri-sur-Mer was looking at her with tired eyes, looking smaller because of all the wrinkles surrounding them. "Yes, he sure is. But if you wil exuse me, Comtes. Adalita quickly pulls ahead of the King and Queen. She prefers to ride fast, not at a slow canter. She would like to be able to have her horse gallop wildly, through the forest just beyond the stables. Sometimes, she went there. At night, when it was guaranteed she would be alone, she often went walking in there. The beauty and peace of it attracted her. She thought back to Court. As usual, her father seemed angry, but he was always like that in the mornings. She had noticed Comte Felix had been late again, and contemplated telling her father. Maybe it was best not to, though that wink he had given her was a bit bold. He would possibly try and pass it off as a nervous tic, but then he must get nervous tics everytime he sees a pretty girl. His brother, Silvius, isn't much better. Days like these, it would be a blessing to be a normal, untitled young woman.

"Shall we get to it then?" Claus broke his gaze away from the window and turned back to Marisol with a smile. "I would hate to waste a moment that could be spent with a dirty rag and a bucket of soapy water."
"Why not?" she smiled. She lifted her hand and pushed the door, opening quietly revealing a clean hallway. Sometimes she could be so proud of her work, like now, but other times.. meh.
"We need to make a pitstop to our rooms first," she said. Claus nodded silently and followed her across the hallway to their small and squishy room, where the doors creaked and the windows were small. At least it was clean.
She grabbed three rags, a bucket, disinfectant and a hairclip. She quickly pinned her hair up and handed her friend the rags and disinfectant. "Hold these," she instructed as she picked up the bucket, entered their bathroom and filled it up a little over halfway. Her eyes went from the pail of water to the window, where she spotted the King, Queen and Princess Adalita leaving the stables, the princess moving ahead at a different speed than the slow canter the King and Queen were moving at.
Marisol realized she missed horse - riding. Her back arched up, and she stood still, watching them, watching them ride into the thick forest that she longed to go to. She used to ride her horse Midnight all the time, until she and Midnight were seperated when she had arrived to the dreadful place they all called the Baroque Court. She sighed softly and left the room, smiling weakly at Claus.
"Okay. So I - I mean, we have to disinfect the floors and curtains, wash the windows from the inside only and dust pratically everything," she instructed, teasing at the end. "In that order,"
They headed back across the hall towards the red salon, and Marisol placed her hand on the door handle. "Ready?"

((OOC: Ahhhh!!! I wasn't here! lol Hope it's okay that I did just a little bit of the King's words here.))
Queen Isabella stood behind her husband in the Grand Salon as he readied to address his Court. Before him stood many nobles and a handful of not so nobles. They were listening intently, hanging on his every word.
“As you have all become aware, the mourning period for our good friend, the Duc of Mollier, has recently come to an end.” An ever so slight smile graced the Queen’s face. Good thing all eyes are on the king. The King sincerely did miss his adviser, however the Queen was glad, perhaps even relieved that he had had an “accident”.
Before long the King was ready to depart and informed the court that the three of them would be riding for the morning. As he glanced at her, the Queen made sure to lock eyes with him. He needed to know she was right beside him, or, well, behind him. Isabella glided gracefully behind her husband as the members of the court bowed on either side of them. This was Isabella’s favorite part of the morning routine.
As they road along the path, her husband was dreadfully quiet. She sensed he was still deeply troubled with his adviser's recent passing. Or was his mind on his daughter? He was fit to be tied that she had not married yet. Who has ever heard of an eighteen year old unwed princess? She should have been married a few years already. Isabella juggled the two topics in her head. The dead adviser, or the unwed daughter? Simple.
As Princess Adalita sped ahead of them, Isabella spoke softly. “Are you going to talk to her today?”
“Is there any good it could possibly do?” he asked in an equally low voice.
“I think her defying your wish bothers you more than her unwed status.”
The King gave Queen Isabella a slight glare. “Go, catch up with her. Maybe today will be different.”
As soon as the king was moving away from her the Queen let her forced smile fade from her face. It’s quite a chore to always appear happy.

Annelise de L'orrine watches the King depart, then sighs.Oof all the handsome men in the world, not a one was present. She noted Comte Felix's late arrival, and smiled. She quickly covered it with her hand.
Her servants had been slow that morning, working their tired hands to tighten her corset. She wasn't breathing in gasps, sure it was too loose. Not everything was where it usually was, she noted.
Adjusting her nestline, she pushed through the crowded Grand Salon to her room. It seemed to still be a slow day, as usual. The depart of the Duc had been taken seriously by everyone but her. The news made her sad, he'd been a great man. She wondered who would fill his shoes as she opened the heavy wooden door to her bedroom.

"Okay. So I - I mean, we have to disinfect the floors and curtains, wash the windows from the inside only and dust pratically everything. In that order."
"What was that first one again?" Claus chuckled, grasping the bucket of water tighter. It seemed to weigh more and more by every step he took. As they passed by the Grand Salon, a few members of the royal court strolled outside into the courtyard to get on with their daily activities.
At last Claus and Marisol reached the Red Salon, at which point he carefully put the bucket of heavy water down beside the doors. A thin dent ran down his palm in the shape of the bucket handle.
"Ready?"
"If you are," Claus smiled, leaning all his weight into the massive door. It steadily swung forward, giving just enough room for the two of them so squeeze inside. He lifted the bucket once more, accidentally dripping a bit onto the marble floors. The Salon loomed before them, full of velvet-covered furniture and marble fireplaces and tables crafted of glass to be washed, dusted, and polished.
"I believe we start with the curtains?" Claus teased. "Perhaps I will start on the windows, instead. I have always hated sticking to schedules." He winked and dipped one of the dingy rags into his bucket. After wringing it out, he rubbed the rag up and down the window pane. Before his eyes, the glass began to streak and smear in sloppy lines.
"Er, Marisol?" he attempted to bite back his laughter. "I think I did this wrong."

The sun had only just begun to creep through the windows of the Comte d'Abri-sur-Mer's private apartment, though he himself had been awake for several hours. As had been his custom for over half a century, he rose every morning before dawn for his four-mile constitutional; the gardens at the Palace were particularly well disposed to exercise and meditation. Indeed, there was much here that reminded him of his own private retreat at Abri-sur-Mer, for the Duc of Mollier replicated many aspects of Gabriel-Lucien's design here at the Palace of Light and Air, and to have a Jardin du Molyneux indicated a design unified by disciplined, mathematical symmetry and beauty.
Thinking of the Duc, he sighed. Gabriel-Lucien had outlived many friends, but the loss of the Duc pained him more than he would ever openly admit. He found in the Duc a kindred spirit, an appreciation for both grace and honor the Comte found an increasing rarity in this age. His absence threatened to drive the Royal Court onto the shoals.
The Comte's habit of bathing after his morning walks was considered, at least, a queer habit and, at the worst, a dangerous one, but he offered his longevity as proof of its efficacy. Cinching his voluminous black brocade dressing gown about his waist, he went into his study, where his valet and personal secretary Bedeau was waiting.
Strictly speaking, this was Bedeau-fils. Bedeau-père had been Gabriel-Lucien's aide-de-camp in the army before becoming his valet, serving him for almost forty years; Bedeau-fils had been with the Comte for fifteen years now, and in fact twenty-one-year-old Bedeau-petit-fils had just arrived at the palace to become one of Gabriel-Lucien's manservants.
"Good morning, Bedeau," said the Comte. "Let's lay out the business of the day, shall we?"
"Very good, Général," Bedeau replied; as most of his personal staff migrated with him to private life from the military, or like Bedeau were families of the same, it had become custom to refer to Gabriel-Lucien by his military rank. "Ships from the Americas and from the Orient both docked in Marseille yesterday, and brought with them several letters for you. A rider brought some overland, as well. I put the more important ones on the top."
Gabriel-Lucien flipped through the small pile. "Two from the Indian Viceroy...one from the Shogun...his French is appalling...the Tsar, again...that English mathematician Newton...one of those Jesuits over in New France...nothing from Abri-sur-Mer today?"
"No, Général, I'm afraid not."
Gabriel-Lucien sighed and rubbed his temples. "Very well. We have some time before the court this morning?"
Bedeau looked at the newly-rising sun. "Quite some time, Général."
Gabriel-Lucien reached for his pen. "Formal Japanese is really quite beautiful to write, did you know that, Bedeau?"
**********
The Comte d'Abri-sur-Mer could see his burnished reflection in the great gold panels of the doors to the Grand Salon. His hair, in fierce formal curls, now naturally snow-white no longer needed powder. The tight vest, the coat with the wide skirts, the breeches, all black with silver embroidery. His sword hung at his side--not the fashionable accoutrement play-thing most of the courtiers dangled from their waist: this sword had drawn blood more than once. He tugged at his broad lace cuffs, and looked down at his hands.
The tremors were slight, unnoticible to others perhaps but to him they reverberated like the ground at Rocroi under the hooves of the French cavalry. He clenched his fists and willed them quiet.
The gold panels reflected his hard, ocean-dark gray eyes. His eyes reflected the glinting gold...and on and on, a hallway from the Salon into his soul.
The portal to the Grand Salon drew open.
**********
“We are to be riding for the morning,” he called out, as he left. His voice was heavy with distaste. “We do not wish to be disturbed by the petty concerns of the Court.”
He left the entire Court in the Grand Salon, still in silence, to enjoy their morning.
The Duc of Mollier had such a deft hand at guiding the Court away from its inherent lack of civilization. The two servants, for example, so openly cavorting in the presence of the nobility (Bedeau would have been disgusted), or the unsubtle strutting of the Comte de Cognac (in the Comte d'Abri-sur-Mer's experience, such a pretty man was likely a fragile lover).
He noticed the Duchess di Bourbon-Parma near the dais, standing just meters away from the King through this morning routine. It took him a moment to recall her name: Marie Clothilde. Yes. Gabriel-Lucien knew her husband once, a stout Navy man, and like so many now, many years deceased. She, at least, possessed a nobility he could appreciate. He wondered what she thought of the situation, her opinion of the now rudder-less king.
In his low, deep voice he said to her, "The King is an interesting man, isn't he, Duchess?"
"Yes, he sure is. But if you will excuse me, Comte. I have an appointment I can't miss. Au revoir," she said back with a cold voice, walking as graciously as possible in her tight corset away from the Comte towards to big golden Salon doors. He tilted his head towards her respectfully, and wondered if he offended her.

When the royal family made their morning appearance in the Grand Salon, Octavien had already been lounging about there for the past half hour. He wasn't really one to enjoy early mornings, as he much rather spent them in bed - preferably one belonging to a beautiful Madame - but he knew and respected the importance of pleasing the King. Even if the King didn't know who he was, yet, he preferred that over being noticed for being tardy. Sooner or later, always being on time and never giving the King a cause to frown, would work in his favour.
Not that Octavien didn't have secrets that were likely to displease the King, but he was simply careful to keep them remaining just that; secrets. What did it matter if he had an interest in married women - wealthy and respected married women - as long as he seemed the perfect gentleman? After all, appearance was everything.
As the royal family entered, Octavien noted how most of the men's gazes were drawn to the young princess. And while he understood what they were thinking and why, they were thoughts he himself didn't share. Granted, the Princess was young and beautiful, and any man lucky enough to marry her would get to enjoy a life of wealth and power. But that was just it; marriage. The thought of marrying didn't appeal to Octavien. To be tied down, and more or less forced to make appearances with a wife every now and then, when he'd much rather be off doing something else.
That's why he prefered women who were already married; they didn't expect a proposal, and only asked to be loved. And in return, they helped the young man move up in the world. With the right mistress, there was no telling how far he could go.
Which was why his gaze only briefly landed on the Princess, before locking on the Queen herself. Ah, the Queen. A most remarkable woman. To Octavien, the Princess' beauty didn't hold a candle to that of her step-mother. Nor did she seem as... cunning? Was that the word he was looking for? He'd been watching the Queen closely - without making it obvious, of course - and was rather certain he had seen something in her eyes, something brief, something fleeting, that didn't seem to go with the demure expression always on her face.
Although it could just be his imagination, simple wishful thinking.
Still, he couldn't help but to glance up into her face from his deep and graceful bow as she brushed past him and left the Grand Salon along with her husband and step-daughter. A daring move, but it was one of the few chances he had to really admire her beauty, from a shorter distance than halfway across the room, which was usually the closest he would come to her.
Then, with the royal family having left the Salon, he straightened his back and let his eyes roam the room in search of something, or someone, to help him pass the time.
Or maybe he should just go riding as well? It had been his plan, after all, and although the King had said he, the Queen and the Princess wished not to be disturbed, it was a large estate and so the chances of running into them seemed minimal.
A short while later he had indeed changed into his riding clothes, and took off from the stables on his beloved silver roan. Not finding much of a thrill in following any of the paths, he soon strayed, heading into the forest.
(((ooc: Meh. Rushed ending as I need to go to bed. He is, however, highly approachable... if you're in the forest, or anywhere nearby. *lol*)))

______________
Unlike him, Marisol laughed heartedly. It didn't matter how loud it was - no one could hear them anyway. Not like the cared, maybe a disgusted face, but hey, they weren't the ones working, were they?
"It might help if you put the.. I don't know, disinfectant in first," she rolled her eyes, trying not to be too mean. "And even if you did, it still wouldn't work. Disinfectant, floors. Windows you wash with soap, in a circular manner." she rolled her eyes again, and smiled. "Which is why we do the floors first, Claus." Marisol picked up the disinfectant container from the ground, waved it slightly back and forth with her hand and set it back on the ground with the smallest smile.
With the extra rag, Marisol picked it up and wiped away the smears gently. Soon, the window returned to it's normal, dirty state, but the areas that used to be the smears were a little darker than the rest of the glass.
Glancing around the room, she sighed as she poured the disinfectant into the water, slowly, making sure there was just enough. Mixing it around with her arm and the first rag, she took it out, squeezed it gently and dropped it onto the ground, and scrubbed.
As she lifted the rag up, she saw the reflection of herself in the marble floor. Not herself, but a younger version of herself. Short, blonde hair, with the same big blue eyes and the curious imagination, imagining what it would be like to live in something like a palace, like the Baroque Court, where she really was right now, 15 years later.
And here she was, her knees propped against the floor, her arm moving the rag up and down, side to side, inside the Red Salon. Some could say her dreams came true, but really, they hadn't. Instead of a noble one, she was just a petty servant, doomed to work here for the rest of her life because of her father.. her careless, pathetic person she called father..
She looked up at Claus and said with a serious face; "When you were little, did you ever expect to end up here? In the Baroque Court, but as a servant?" she asked.

"Bonjour, Mademoiselle Varens."
The Comte de Cognac bowed to deeply to Adela just moments before she slipped into the Grand Salon, unforgivably late to the King's daily address. She was certain, though, that the reasons for their respective lateness were very different. The court was overflowing with innuendo about Felix's rather erratic, eccentric love life, while Adela's absence from the Salon was a little more conventional. Fully committed to being a leader of fashion in the Baroque Court, Adela had spent much of the morning having her corset tightened, her face powdered to near albino-ism, and her dark curls dressed a la Hurluberlu. The result was a striking gown of dark blue silk, with white muslin sleeves puffed to perfection and edged with imported lace and pearls. She thought the effect was quite striking, but she wondered if it was worth the price of being tardy.
“We are to be riding for the morning,” the King called out, as he left. His voice was heavy with distaste. “We do not wish to be disturbed by the petty concerns of the Court.”
She listened, idly, to the King's speech. The Duc of Mollier, etc., etc. Adela couldn't say she cared that much about the Duc of Mollier. She had always thought him insufferably dull and conceited wih his own power. She couldn't exactly imagine herself involved in politics, either. She dismissed the morning's address as easily as she had brushed the rouge across her cheekbones earlier.
Toying absently with the lace on her sleeves, Adela wondered how she would spend her day...
"The King is an interesting man, isn't he, Duchess?" Adela peered to her side, watching with unconcealed interest.
"Yes, he sure is. But if you will excuse me, Comte. I have an appointment I can't miss. Au revoir."
The Duchess di Bourbon-Parma had turned on her heel, and left the Comte d'Abri-sur-Mer alone.
How abrupt, Adela mused to herself. Taking a chance, Adela walked over to Gabriel-Lucien, and gave him a toothy, amused smile.
"I fear the Duchess is getting sour with age. Truly, it was bound to happen, sooner or later."
Adela unfurled her navy-laquered fan, and fanned her face coquetteishly.
"But, dear Comte, it's exceedingly happy that I've run into you this morning. I'm throwing a little...we'll say get-together in the Blue Salon this evening."
Adela had thought of it this morning, as her maid-servant had applied her face powder. It had seemed like a good idea at the time: an irrelevant little gathering of a select social few, perhaps she'd even try to get the Court Jester, to perform...
"You can't say no, dearest. I'd be positively in despair! You know you're the only interesting man about court these days. Do say you'll come."

((OOC: Someone had said earlier that they saw the royal family ride towards the forest, so I'm going with that. :) ))
As the King rode off in pursuit of the Princess, Isabella shifted slightly in the saddle. “Riding is most definitely a man’s sport.” she said with a slight pout. How can anyone manage riding side saddle for such a lengthy amount of time while putting up with the tight grip of a corset? Indeed, this morning’s ride was the King’s idea, although Isabella wondered if Princess Adalita had anything to do with it.
Even though Queen Isabella thought Princess Adalita to be a spoiled girl, she did envy her freedom. The Princess insisted she marry whom she chose, and not who the king deemed worthy. Isabella thought that to be nonsense. It was a daughter’s purpose to marry appropriately, to bring good ties and fortune to her family. Isabella knows that all too well, for it was what she had done.
King Edouard is indeed a handsome man, very distinguished with his age. But he is also very stiff and always so very proper. Rarely, even in intimate moments would the Queen catch him with a smile. She could count on one hand how many times she’s seen him laugh. Deep down in her heart, Isabella wonders why fate has smiled upon her and crowned her Queen. Coming out of her thoughts Isabella peered into the forest ahead of her. She had been so lost in her own thoughts that she lost sight of the King and Princess. Rather than scared, she was relieved. She had gotten herself lost! Imagine such a thing! A Queen lost on her own grounds, how absurd! How perfect.
Isabella gently tugged on the reigns bringing her mare to a halt. Closing her eyes she sat ever so still, listening intently to the forest. The birds were singing a sweet song; the wind rustled the colorful autumn leaves of the trees. Isabella slid off her saddle, the debris of the forest floor crunching beneath her feet. Her thoughts went to a few months back, when the Duc of Mollier was still alive. Her husband loved that man, sometimes too much so. Isabella was glad he was gone, as he had gotten his nose too far into her business. When he was so bold as to threaten her, she used what means necessary to keep him quiet.
Isabella then thought of all the Nobles of the court. Soon one of them would take the Duc’s place. Isabella has just as much of an interest as to who takes the Duc’s place as the King does. I need to be sure a friend steps into those shoes, rather than a foe. Certainly there is one man of court who Isabella would be happy to see in the position, but she knows she must be careful. Favors done, often grant favors in return. As Queen, she must be vigilant to not owe favors to anyone.
Isabella was suddenly pushed forward as the mare had nudged her in the lower back. She laughed at the thought that the mare was as bored as she was alone in the forest. Isabella began to walk forward, heading towards the palace, so she hoped.
While she sauntered along she thought of the few at Court this morning that she had never taken notice of before. Perhaps I will speak with Edouard and convince him it’s time for a ball. Perhaps the princess will find a suitor appropriate. Yes, I do need a good excuse to mingle with a few of those of the court. One man in particular had her interest. As she had followed her husband out of the Grand Salon this morning she had thought, just for an ever so brief moment, that one of them had been so bold as to gaze upon her face instead of the ground she was walking on. If she wasn’t imagining things, it could only mean one of two things. Either that man does not know his place and needs to learn it quickly. Or perhaps he does indeed know his place, but dares to challenge it. A slight smile came across her face. Oh, she was good at imagining such things. An active imagination was the product of a bored, lonely queen, with too much time on her hands.
“There will be no ball if you never figure your way out of the forest!”

((The first bit is simply Mercy's story feel just to read the bottom paragraph :) - P.S. I have turned my entire signature into a link to my scandal tallies :D))
Mercy looked around the salon and saw the interesting people swanning about. So this is where she was? The washed-up ex-wife of a washed-up ex-ambassador of someone washed-up town somewhere, penniless and titleless. And what did she have to show for her years? Her wrinkles and her stories. The stories of other peoples lives the stories she loved to tell, as for a few moments they made her interesting, worth indulging… And then when their eyes returned to the normal sizes and their refined looks returned she was once again a nobody… Not worth being with.
She hated Viscount for what he had done to her but being an ex-ambassadors wife was better than being an ex-ambassadors ex-wife. She’d had the money, not much but enough to set her above the rest and the fake smiles at one time had all been directed at her…. No more…
((The bit below is actually relevant to everyone... well more to someone))
But she would have them back.... no major scandalls hey? Well she already had one story that could make the courtiers blood boil... and could push one of the fairer candidates straight out of the line for advisor... However she wouldn't do it quite yet, that wouldn't be nice now would it and she needed something to catipult her up a little socially first.

"Addy, I think we need to talk."
"We have gone through this many times. I do not wish to marry someone who only seeks my hand for the money and title." And the man I love has no title, so you would not approve of him.
"Adalita, listen to me. You have had plenty of time to find someone who loves you, but you insist in being shut up in your room all day. The only way to find someone who loves you is to come out of there."
"Any time I am not in my room, I am with you." Or him. The King shakes his head. Today is no different to any other.

Roseline kept her eyes fixed on the floor, raising them only when they had finally left the room. She let out a feeble quiet cough. The corset was tight around her chest, and although you may have thought you would've got used to the constricter-like action impairing your breathing, it was quite the opposite, it becoming more and more hard to breath rather than easier.
Touching her hair lightly to check it was still in the right placing, leaving the Grand Salon as gracefully as possible, breathing as little as possible, and fanning herself lightly. It was much to hot in the Salon, and without breathing, it becomes ever so unbearable.
Finally emersing into the cool air outside the Court, Roseline took as deep a breath as possible, heading for the gardens. There was no-one around, and she took a light seat on one of the many stone benches. She liked the quiet, but couldn't help wish she wasn't so avoided because of her heratige. Now the King's Advisior was gone, she could finally redeem herself, of course there are many rumours surrounding his sudden death, but it only helped Roseline in her task. She leant back a little, slouching and trying to relieve her breathing while no-one was around.

Silvius hurriedly closed the door behind him as he entered his private suite, yawning heavily as he scurried across the room. He had missed the King's address for a second time, having slept in from his escapades the previous night: only arriving back to his own bed in the late morning. His clothes were messed and his hair scruffy and out of place, giving him a 'lone-ranger' look that he knew looked good; however, not appropriate for a Court where his place as Duc was much to be sustained.
After a long wash and scrub, Silvius stood by the open window, a silk garment wrapped around his damp body as he watched the open countryside. Almost instantly an amused smile graced his face as he saw the Princess Adalita sweep by on a horse, alerting him that today he would be dressed in riding attire. Moments later he left his suite in tight breeches, brown waistcoat and a red tailcoat fastened over the top, as he descended the stairs and made his way out to the stables
"Bring Allonso around," Silvius ordered the stable boy
The familiar breying sound told him that his brown stallion was nearby and he smiled smugly, waiting for the servants to bring him around. He owned the fastest and most dangerous horse in the stables: if not the entire of France and it pleased him everytime to see it causing difficulties for the ignorant servants. Soon, however, Silvius was off on Allonso, gallopping into the forest in search for the Royal riding group.
"My princess" he called out as he rode up to Princess Adalita, "such an honour to see Your Royal Highness in the woods today. May I say you are looking most delightful today."
Silvius drew his horse to a stop beside hers and flashed her a smug smile, allowing his eyes to quickly scan her body and then return to her face.

"Thank you." She glanced at the King, and he nodded and fell behind. She turned back to Silvius, her smile fixed in place.
"Shall we ride together, monsieur?" Please, say no. She glanced towards the forest. She couldn't wait for tonight, and it would seem much longer if she had to spend the day with Silvius. She had to bite her tounge to refrain from saying, My face is up here.

Surprised and pleased by her offer, Silvius gave her a smile and met her gaze nodding his head to her. It would surely please her father that she appeared to be riding with a man of such title in the Court; yet, it would surely please her father that Adalita was riding with a man at all. The supposed spinster Princess, determined never to take a husband. A women so determined not to fall to the wooing of the men of Court
“It would be an honour to ride with your Your Royal Highness,” he replied.
He slowed his horse and reached across to take Adalita’s hand. He kissed it and then let go, smiling pleased at her. Again he kicked his horse, moving towards a canter as they rode together

He turned a sharp corner and headed straight into the middle of the forest, looking back to see how far behind Adalita was. Octavien loved to ride. Especially when there were no paths telling him where he should go. That had always been the thing with him; he disliked, nay, loathed being told what to do. Which was probably another reason why he was put off by the thought of marriage. Such a commitment would lead him down a very obvious and much more narrow path than the one he was currently on, and while it did have it's perks, remaining free seemed the way for him. At least for now, until he had gotten what he wanted. And as he enjoyed every step of the way, he wasn't in any hurry getting there. Even though he'd just started on his journey by arriving at the court.
However, the King's announcement had made him think. A new advisor was to be chosen, and it seemed it would happen very soon. That didn't leave Octavien much time, should he want the position.
But, who was he kidding, really? He was further away from that position than anyone else, it seemed. He didn't even have a proper title. Nor did the King probably know he even existed.
Besides... Wouldn't the King's advisor be completely swamped with work? Not much time for enjoying the intimate company of women, or even for riding or any of the other things he so enjoyed doing.
But... If he couldn't be the new advisor, he could be the next best thing; a very close friend of the new advisor. He'd just have to be sure to make friends with the candidates. And how hard could that be? Everyone wanted something, and Octavien wouldn't mind doing people a favor or two, if there was a chance they'd end up in a position powerful enough to help Octavien obtain what he wished for in return.
The thoughts were all spinning in his head, until he felt he needed a break from it all. Wasn't that why he'd come out here in the first place? To clear his head and relax, preparing for a new day?
With a swift kick he pressed his heels gently against the sides of his stallion, urging him to set off, galloping through the forest. Soon his heart was beating to the rythm of the horse's hooves against the soft, leafcovered forest soil, as he urged the animal to go faster and faster. The surroundings started floating together into a colorful blur of green, brown and yellow. Despite the speed Octavien had no trouble ducking and dodging the branches that seemed to reach down to sweep across his face and torso. He'd spent so much time in the sadle tat often it would seem he and the horse he was riding had become one.
However, he soon slowed down to enjoy the view, and as the horse trudged along, he tilted his head back, turning his face upward towards the small, fragile rays of sunlight poking through the thick roof of leaves above his head. He sensed their warmth caressing his face, and his cheeks flushing from the intense ride.
He wasn't sure how long he'd been revelling in the sensation, when the distant sound of a snorting horse suddenly was heared. His eyes flew open and he scanned the area for any company. He was now on a small hill he knew was located pretty far from the Palace - he'd spent alot of time riding in these woods, and so he was very well familiar with the area - and just a little bit further down the slope he saw a woman leading her horse.
Octavien's brows furrowed slightly. He hadn't seen anyone leave the Palace to go riding, and he was too far from there for anyone to have left after he did, and have gotten here already. Not with the pace he'd been keeping at first.
And the only ones that had gone riding before him was the royal family.
Surely it couldn't be...?
He squinted, as if trying to make out who the person was.
Why yes, it was! It was indeed the Queen. And just as the realization hit him, she was alerted of his presence, as his horse decided to greet the other one with a soft neigh.
Octavien almost couldn't believe his luck. The Queen, here, alone! No King, no Princess, not even a servant.
Again his brows furrowed ever so slightly.
Had something gone wrong? Or did she just seek solitude?
Octavien hesitated. If she did indeed wish to be alone, she wouldn't take kindly to him intruding on her peace. But on the other hand, if something really was the matter, she'd probably have his head for not doing his duty as a gentleman and offer her his help.
And that made all the difference. Octavien was far too fond of his head, and so he'd rather have the Queen herself biting it off rather then have the executioner cutting it off.
Cautiosly he started steering his horse down the small hill, towards the Queen, watching her for any reaction or dissmissive motion. But there was none, and as he got closer, he slid from the sadle and onto the ground. Remaining on the back of the hose, looking down at her from it, would be most rude and inappropriate.
"Your Majesty", he greeted her with a deep and elegant bow once he reached her, and this time, he actually kept his eyes lowered to the ground as he did so. "I do hope I am not intruding?"

Roseline looked up to see none other than the young princess standing by the bench. "Bonjour" She greeted Roseline.
Taken completely off guard, Roseline barely manages to scramble out of her slouched position, and to stand, before the Princess had taken a seat. Slowly sinking into her seat again, Roseline looked towards the Princess, "Bonjour, Your Royal Highness." She said, bowing her head slightly, "May I be so bold to ask what brings you away from your Ride this Morning?" She asks, looking up again.

"Thank you, so much a walk would be most lovely."
Silvius smiled and took Mercy's arm again, beginning to stroll with her towards the front of the great Court. They rounded the corner and were face with the series of hedge mazes: built for the King mearly just for show. If Henry had them in England then surely he could have them too
"I cannot think why the princess would desert such a charming young man, i certainly would not have done so." Mercy said
Silvius chuckled and the slowly strolled a little further
"Madmoiselle you are surely too kind!" he laughed, "and it is clearly the Princess' loss and my gain, as I now get to spend some time with the prettiest dame in Court."

Adela unfurled her navy-laquered fan, and fanned her face coquetteishly.
"But, dear Comte, it's exceedingly happy that I've run into you this morning. I'm throwing a little...we'll say get-together in the Blue Salon this evening. You can't say no, dearest. I'd be positively in despair! You know you're the only interesting man about court these days. Do say you'll come."
"Lying is so unbecoming a young woman, Baroness," said the Comte, cocking an eyebrow wryly. "Yet, how dare I presume to correct you? If you insist upon flattering me, I will resign myself to it and bravely endure."
Gabriel-Lucien found he knew rather little about the woman now standing beside him, save that she had a reputation for boldness. He could not recall anything about her family, their title, her situation at the court. Was it that he knew these things and had forgotten, or that he had never known them to begin with? Either option irritated him. He would have to ask Bedeau--the servants always knew everything about everyone.
Adela tapped the Comte's arm with her fan. "Yet I note you did not answer!"
Gabriel-Lucien gave a little bow. "I would be delighted, of course, to join you this evening. While mourning the death of the Duc of Mollier, I suspended my own salon. I'm eager to begin again."
The Baroness laughed. "I'm so pleased! I promise, dearest, that my humble little party won't disappoint. But then, I must be going! There is so much to do! We will meet again this evening, Comte?"
"Indeed, Baroness. Adieu."

"Yes, you may. It was a race with Duc Silvius Peitou-Charentes. I lost sight of him and thought he may have left the forest. I see now that is not the case." She fidgets with her dress for a minute.

Silvius laughed and strolled through the palace gardens, his arm still linked through Mercy's. He couldn't help but wonder what Adalita was up to, having abandoned him and supposedly humiliated him, and it made his head spin a little. He also allowed his mind to think about the woman he'd spent the previous night with: something he usually didn't let himself do, but he quickly brushed the thought from his mind. If her husband had caught him he'd be in serious trouble.
"My dear," he began, grinning at Mercy, "if I did not flatter the best looking women in court, then what would I have left?" he teased, "surely a young man cannot be a gentlemen unless he frolicks with a beautiful dame such as yourself! It is my good luck that the Princess abandoned me, I now see!"
Silvius smiled at Mercy, picked up her hand and kissed it, looking into her eyes
"Perhaps we may go for another stroll sometimes my lady," he said with a grin.
He then bowed low and walked away, catching sight of Adalita talking to another pretty young woman, a sight which made his smile stretch almost to his ears. Yet, not in a pleased way: but smugly, as his eyebrow twitched upwards

"Yes, you may. It was a race with Duc Silvius Peitou-Charentes. I lost sight of him and thought he may have left the forest. I see now that is not the case." The princess told her, Roseline laughed politely, at the Princesses antics, for the rumours surrounding Duc Silvius's love life could perhaps be compared to her fathers, and those are not so tasteful, yet he was a gentleman, perhaps an eligible batchular in the King's eyes.
"Tell me, what is it like to be normal? Without arranged marriages and men wanting to marry you for money." The Princess asked her. Roseline blinked suddenly. Such a girl should never ask such questions, but it did make Roseline think, it must be if only slightly hard, yet to have men falling over themselves to get to you can't be that much of a chore. "Your Royal Highness, I am not normal." Roseline told her quietly, but took another breath and put a smile over the comment which she immediately regretted "I mean, it is as different as it would be for me to have all of it. I suppose it just gives one less thing to worry for in this world" Roseline told her.
Looking past the young princess, Roseline saw Duc Silvius. She did never like the man, yet you do have to work with the people of the Court, favours get favours in return. She smiled towards him, and brought her gaze back towards the Princess, "Your Highness, I feel Duc Silvius has returned for you" Roseline told her, indicating towards the man.

Adalita looks over, and sure enough he is talking with Mercy Flight, who has a reputation for being a gossip. As he looks in their direction, she stands suddenly.

Mercy directly stepped out of the carriage, when the carriage came to a halt. She bid farwell to Marie and strowlled away from the carriage. However Marie needed some help or she would probably break a hip, so a servant ran towards Marie and helped her out.
Marie commended the servant to bring the bags from the shoppingtrip to her suite and the package to His Majesty himself. There was a beautiful gold plated writingfeather in the package, a present the King would certanly like.
Marie desided to make a walk in the rose garden. A walk that always helped her to calm down, and she needed to calm down indeed.
Marie walked slowly over the path, putting her hat a bit better on her head so she wouldn't get the sunshine on her face. In the middle of the rose garden was a bench, perfectly in the middle of the palace in front of it.
Marie, needing some rest, sat down on it and watched the palace.
From a distance, the palace looked completely gold. The palace always remembered Marie of the place she had grown up, Versailles. She was the great-great-grandchild of a french King and raised like she was the crown princess.
On a young age she married the 10 year older Duc di Parma, one of the most powerful and richest nobilty of Italy.
She was happy there for a lot of years, until all of her childeren and the Duc himself died. All of them in just 2 years.
Her nephew is Duc di Parma now, and she an alone douairiere Duchess di Parma.
The Duc had left her a amazing fortune, of witch a lot is already spent on her Chateau, clothing, juwels, etc, etc. and a big part locked away for her nephew to get when she dies. But with a reasonable part of the fortune she went here to become the Kings new advisor, it almost went wrong on the first day, not a very good sign.
Watching the Palace, Marie gets deeper and deeper in her thoughts, sinking away in memories.

Silvius chuckled as he saw Adalita stand up and suddenly disappear back into the Court. Ah well, nothing wrong with a challenge: sometimes it was just too easy. The infamous womaniser needed a challenge sometimes. Instead he simply walked over to the woman left behind on the bench and gave her a nod
"My lady," he greeted her, "I do feel that my presence has caused the Princess to depart. My apologies. She seems not to like me so much, yes?"
He laughed and gracefully bowed, then sat himself down on the bench beside Roseline, smiling at her

"What is a pretty young lady such as yourself doing out here alone on a day like this?" He asked her, brushing a stray hair away from her eye. Involintarily blushing, a rosy haze creeped slyly over Roseline's pale features.
She smiled slightly, re-crossing her gloved hands over on her lap.
"It is much nicer to be out here, than in a stuffy room" She told him simply, averting her gaze, and teasing a small section of hair out of her elaborate up-do.

“You ruined my favorite dress you incompetent moron.”

Her escapades made him smile, no matter that they were purely meant to deter him and keep him away from her, and that was, perhaps, what he liked. The infamous womaniser: she'd fall eventually. Just as he walked up the steps to the entrance he collided with a dark haired woman in an elegant dress, and he took a step back, smiling at her

"Okay Claus, I need to get more water. The rags are all soaked with this disinfectant water, so you can still clean the floor, and curtains, but it won't last very long, so use it carefully. Kapiche?""
"As you wish, mademoiselle," Claus smiled, picking up one of the rags and scrubbing at the floor in circular motions. What he supposed were scuff marks from those intolerable buckle shoes were now fading away, leaving his own reflection.
