View Full Version : Issues with s3oc.

I will apologize in advance for my inexperience, I am as yet untested (aka I am a TOTAL n00b and have never cloned/edited/etc in my LIFE outside of pure photo-editing), but I have been reading so many of the tutorials and trying to wrap my head around them that I HAD to try it for myself.

However I have hit a snag, I seem to be having issues with the cloner program. I've downloaded it from the stickies above and I can download and install it, even open it, but when I begin to load the object catalog it gets to about 75% processed before it shuts down and gives the error "s3oc Object Cloner has stopped working" and that Windows is searching for a solution. I do also have the s3pi packages downloaded and installed and s3pe, though I have not even gotten to the cloning stage.

I will also apologize if this is not the appropriate thread to post this inquiry in, but I was hoping that I could get some feedback on why my program was not functioning.

Many, many thanks for any help in advance.

When reporting a problem with any program, please always supply:
- The full program version in use
- Full details of your operating system
- The full text of the error message, either cut-n-paste or screen shot preferred.

Thanks for posting.

Okay, here goes.

My system is pretty basic:

Athalon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200, 2.70 gHz
RAM: 2 gb
System Type: 64 bit
I use Windows Vista Home Premium.

As for the s3oc and etc that I've been trying to use...
I downloaded from this thread last night, the Aug 8. update, so it's the s3oc_0908-08-1553 version and shouldn't need the updated library. As for the error I receive, hopefully I can provide the info you need to help me.

When attempting to open a catalog from the file/open menu the program will get to 76% every time and then a Microsoft Windows alert pops up with a green loading bar, scans for a few seconds and then gives a message that says:

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/jumplittlechica/s3pierror.jpg

Unfortunately, that is all I get.

I've also uninstalled and re-downloaded and re-installed but I still get the same problem.

Thanks again for your assistance in this matter, I do sincerely appreciate your feedback and this is a luxury item for me, hardly a necessity, so please don't hurry on my behalf. Putter. Take a breather and PRETEND you're working on my problem if you need an excuse to chill out and surf Caturday sites or something. :D

Try running on a 32bit, single core Athlon XP2800 on XPSP3 :) Works here. lol. Sorry, I've no idea what that error means or why Microsoft would think the program has stopped working. What a useless error message.

If anyone else has a clue, I'd be grateful for any info received.

Which version are you using? The executable or unpack yourself one?

Does this use dll's that are supposed to come with windows? Vista doesn't include all the same dll's that XP did. For an old TS2 app I had to track down a dll to add to the folder the app was run from using Vista x64.

I have tried both versions, the unpack it and the magic do-it-for-me versions...no difference in my computer's response. Although perhaps entirely unneccessary, I am also reinstalling my Sims game back to its default install location (main HD, program files x86) instead of to my secondary hard-drive which has caused some...interesting (read "hinky")...workarounds, although it DID alleviate my exploding drive syndrome at the time.

Try running on a 32bit, single core Athlon XP2800 on XPSP3 :) Works here. lol.
Lol. You shoulda seen what I was rocking before I upgraded to the musheen I have now, single core Celeron with 512 max RAM.

Hrmmm...as to the mystery of the dll files, I personally have no idea if I'm missing one or not, and I'm frankly on shaky ground trying to figure out which I'd be missing and how to fix that, preferably without going to a guy that has a "get your dll's here, hot off the back of a truck" site.

And yes, Microsoft is singularly unhelpful and gives the BEST error messages. I miss XP. With XP, when I got errors, they meant things. Terrible, horrifying things, but they actually MEANT something. I think, perhaps Vista is too..."user friendly"...for my taste. It's not actually any more USABLE, but it doesn't tell you the scary bits and frankly, those are the bits I want to know.

Sorry, got off topic there...dll's, do I have a missing one...I'm not sure, this is pretty much where I need someone to tell me that. ;)

Thanks again.

(edited to correct partial sentence.)

Yea the dll question was more aimed at pljones. :) Because I haven't a clue which it might need.

And your old machine sounds a lot like my current one. :O Slow and painful.

The app only uses .Net.

Is there no way to convince Vista to be more verbose, like there is in XP to tell it to take a minidump rather than simply reboot, for example?

Ok I just tried this on my son's computer. Version s3oc_0908-08-1553. The issue in not Vista, either in 32-bit or 64-bit.

AMD x2 6400 3.2Ghz
6 Gb RAM
Vista Home Premium

It started up instantly...I should be using his computer. :giggler:

I have no idea what the status of .net is on his. I would guess that is the issue. As for getting more defined error messages, the only thing I could thing of would be to look in the error event logs for applications.

Hrmmm...I must not be familiar with error event logs, I've never had to pull one up, so...

But, I DO have more error messages for you. I apologize that this post will be very image heavy, I have a few to pop in.

When in the settings menu, trying to pull up the appropriate directory, I can get THIS far. It won't open the last folder, Packages, allowing me a peek at the Fullbuild core of that folder which I KNOW is there.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/jumplittlechica/error5.jpg

When I click on the Packages folder and click okay without opening the folder, since it won't LET me, I get this.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/jumplittlechica/error6.jpg

Upon trying to work around that, I then proceed to the File menu and go looking for a specific catalog to open manually, as it WAS allowing me to do that before and that's where I was getting to 76% and then getting the aforementioned worthless error. I go to open, pull up one of the fullbuild catalogs and I get THESE.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/jumplittlechica/error3.jpg

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/jumplittlechica/error4.jpg

THIS is what I get for reinstalling the game. Not really. It wasn't allowing me to open the appropriate folders before but I'm going to blame it on this,I'm grumpy now and looking to kick a computer or something.

I need a bigger hard-drive. I'm living out of 2 80s cobbled together into some sort of weird Siamese twin thing and the 2 don't seem to get along at all. If THIS is my problem, I'm gonna smack myself in the head a few times for not mentioning it sooner. I don't know why it would be, but it COULD be.

"Select the folder where your Sims3 game is installed" means just that.

I think it's possible some people are using an out of date tutorial, from the very early days when cloner did want you to find fullbuild0. Yes, you only want the name of the Sims 3 folder, not any file under it.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Yes, I was apparently reading an outdated tutorial. You are brilliant and I am a peon and kiss your feets! I have a catalog and even have items I can see IN said catalog and now...Now, I go and make read more and try to figure out how to make...anything.

I did figure it was something simple I was missing and again I apologize that I was not very clear up front about which actions were leading to this malfunction, but I do suppose that it's a part of my learning curve. Hopefully, I will be able to use this information now to produce something worthy of being posted.

Thanks for your patience and very timely responses and hopefully the next time I have a question, it will be significantly more edumacated.

It's not your fault, if you were following a tutorial that clearly told you to do something and you did it :) If you spot any out of date tutorials let me know and I will post a comment to them to alert the author and other users.

This is not a real issue, but I thought I'd let you know anyway. When replacing the object thumbnails in Object Cloner, the right and bottom off the image is being cut down in the game.
The Cloner automatically creates 3 sizes. However, the cloner creates a 64x64 for the middle one (which is used in the catalog), but the ones in the game are 54x54.

It can be easily fixed with S3Pe, so it's not important.

The game uses a 54x54 thumbnail for medium sizes? Are you sure? Seems a bit odd.

Yes, if you look at My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Thumbnails/ObjectThumbnails.package there are thumbnails for all sizes and all objects. The middle ones are 54x54.
The game crops around 10 pixels from the right and bottoms from the 64x64 ones, so it seems ok.

I can't say for sure, but I recently had a run-in with the same error message on a 64-BIT Vista machine, running Home Premium. Turned out it was a "driver" issue. In this case, I have NO idea what driver might be causing your crash.

If you have yesterday's game patch, or the world adventures EP, it has broken s3oc and I am afraid we will take some time to update it. Sorry.

Hi, I've just installed the newest patch for the game (had a lot of problems with it) installed the latest s3oc but everytime I try to load the normal objects to clone, it crashes. I've just built a new computer so I'm having to install everything again, maybe I'm missing some net framework files or something.

There is no copy to clipboard to copy the message and paste here.

My System Specs are:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Amd Phenom (tm) 8250e
Triple Core Processor
190 GHZ 2.00 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

I have net framework from 2 up to 3.5 family, do I need net framework 1

Thanks for your help in advance.
