Hi All,
I'd like to know what you think of the Quick Menu panel that was first implemented 22nd December 2009, and available on the navbar.
Do you like it? Do the links make sense? Does it have too many links? Too few? Are there any other links you might want to see?
Please let us know what you think by voting in the poll and leaving your opinion below.
Thanks!

Yes, I like it.
I feel that there is something missing to it, but I cant put my brain on it.
Overall it works for me.

Ooo, new shiney! :D
I`m not at all sure that *I* will be using it, but it looks like an excelent idea for helping site-newbies find their way around.
As for suggestions for improvement, I`ll have to think on it a bit.

I like it a lot - links layout is very clear, and it makes some of the harder to find links more immediately visible.
I'm not sure if it already does this (I never log out - I tried but I had a panic attack) but is it possible to make the box appear on entry? Or do you think that would be annoying after a while?

leesester, you could always make your shortcut to the site point specifically to that page. ;)

The panel isn't really a page - to get the right look it has to be triggered from within the site, which isn't possible to do normally.
lee: I'll probably do that at some point, yes.

"The panel isn't really a page - to get the right look it has to be triggered from within the site, which isn't possible to do normally."
In that case, I have to report that it isn`t working AT ALL for me. I get an EMPTY LightBox frame instead. I middle-clicked on the link for my earlier view of the page, and it opened in a different tab. I thought at the time that that was how it was SUPPOSED to look.
Clarification:Want to give us feedback about this panel? Let us know here! (http://my.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=383373)That`s *ALL* I get that way. The whole page comes up when I attempt to open it in a seperate tab. leesester *could* link to *that* page, if desired. It *does* work.

It's perfect for beginners! :)
I would add something like "How to install custom content", I know it's under Game Help section, but it would be much better for completely rookies if the help is right there, in front of you. Just saying ^_^

You implemented it while I was in the hospital having brain surgery so this is the first time I've seen it. I like it, though.
You could also have an entry for "I'm bored" and link to the pictures, stories, and contests, since the Creativity sections are in a different spot.

Anubis: Good idea. Could put the installation FAQs right there.
Ghost: Another good idea. :)

I don't think I'll use it, but it's definitely a good idea for those who get lost going around the site. :) Can't think of anything else that hasn't already been mentioned.

Well, whaddya know, it *is* working for me today! However, the last line on the page looks like it is slightly malformed. There is a link to your icon source right in the middle of a sentance about clicking on the Quick Menu item in the page header.

To tell you the truth, I had no clue it was there until just now. BUT it's pretty! (:

Yea, It seems handy enough for those who get stuck about the site. Maybe you could have a link to it on the home page? That seems an obvious place where people would want to use it - or maybe have it automatically appear when on that page - kind of like what leesester asked.
Its generally less-site-friendly members who visit that page as their begging page, as more frequent members have the iMTS page assigned as their homepage - right? :)
Thats just my idea, anyhow.

Petchy, I'll have to consider when it will appear automatically but right now it's accessible from every page on the site using the navbar.

For me the new panel shows clear advice and the most important links to answer many questions that appear in several threads beginning: "I didn't know where to ask this and that ..."
Maybe you want to change the menu title to something more descriptiv and eye-catching for users that are lost with the other navbars, for example a different colour and perhaps "Lost in navigation?".

Delphy: Oh I know, I was just saying that if you were to make it an automatic feature, the best place - in my opinion - for it to pop up, would be the normal MTS homepage :)

Just a huge Thank you for everything you are doing.
I personally think that I 'll not use the quick panel, because I have no issues or not a single problem with the site.I always find easily what I am looking for.But I am quite sure that the quick panel will be precious for many people...No doubt after seeing the result of the vote...
Big hugs to you all.

Is there a way to have this show automatically to all new users until they have found their way around the site, to prevent multiple questions being asked that have been answered many times. for example something like the first 20 times on the site or after their first upload, something like that.
I don't know if that makes sense or if its even reasonable.
edit: When I use the site, most of the time I have my favorites set to open downloads, new post, subscriptions and pages like that. Some people might not see this menu if they navigate right past the home page.
thats why i would suggest a 'popup' of sorts, for new(er) users that would give them no (or little) excuses as to why they are asking questions that are already answered.
Of course this will never eliminate it, but it might help.

This is an excellent idea for new users, or those who haven't explored the site thoroughly. (The part about having it on the homepage, I know it's been up in the quick menu for a little bit now.)
But can it displaying on the homepage be optional (with the default showing it every time)? It's just so big, and I really want to see the news stories without having to scroll down half the page.

I think it's really neat! :) Easier to navigate and it's quick! I also think like many others here, that it's good for new users to see what the content is clearly :bunny:

I don't really like it to be honest. It's way to bulky, I'd just prefer to use the nav bar links. But I do think it's helpful for new people who don't know their way around the site.

Now that the quick menu panel has been around for a while, I have developed an opinion. It's awesome.
To be perfectly honest, I know my way around the site and I still use it on occasion. I especially like the little button on the side of the page that brings it up from wherever you happen to be on MTS.

I like the quick menu itself, although the button the side of the page seems a bit odd.

I think that it's very useful for newbies to find their way in MTS while they are starting to use it =)

What happened to the annoying Quick Menu button on the SIDE of the page? ;)
For that matter, I can`t seem to find the Quick Menu *anywhere* any more.

You are probably still using the medieval theme skin. It doesn't appear there.

Hi,
Years ago I registered at Sexy Sims. I lost most of my user names and passwords. I am trying to figure out how to get them both for Sexy Sims. I have no problem getting into MDS but they refered me to this site when I tried to retrieve my password. I don't want to change my password here. PLEASE HELP. This is soooo irritating.
I did change my e-mail address a while back, maybe that is the problem. At any rate, I hope you can help me.
Thank you,
oliviatrue

I don't like it, I have tried to download stuff on this account for weeks, i can on other websites but now on here. I cannot post to get help, I can not contact MTS to get help, I have read your ridiculous guide multiple times and yet it keeps telling me to read it. I have looked for related post in your menus and all across your website and yet I find NO help what so ever. Thanks for making this as difficult as possible.

Shelbyann: You have only one post, which is the one you just wrote, so how can you say you've tried contacting MTS? If you actually looked in the Site menu you'd see a section called "Site Questions and Issues", which is where you can post if you have problems with the site.
Instead of saying the entire site is difficult and that you can't find help, try actually looking next time. ;)

Hi - yes, the Quick Menu is very cool - and I think the reason you can't vote is because the poll is closed - as this thread is from 2009. So I will be closing the thread now too.
