View Full Version : Deck foundation lattice as walls? And pool edges against walls?

In a number of lots here on MTS2 I see the lattice from the decking foundation as walls, I see it used in basements to make light shine though windows, I have seen in as regular walls in gazebo's and used as a lattice on a porch where you would think a flowering vine would grow.
How is it done? I have looked all over for a tutorial that mentions it with basements and other things and I am coming up with nothing and as far as I know, at least from what I have tried you can't delete part of a deck foundation without taking out the whole thing like you can with normal foundations.
I have also seen indoor and basemelt poolswith the water right up to the outer wall, also can't find a tutorial or intructions on how to do this.
Trying to expand my building knowledge so any help would be great.

The lattice from decking itself isn't used as walls, but you can use cheats to use the deck foundation as normal foundation at a full height.
Example:

Those walls are the deck foundation using the cfe cheat to make it full wall height and deleting parts of it. You can't put windows in it like normal walls, but then you can't do that with foundations either.
In some cases you may also be seeing a fence made by Reyn. She has a selection of different height fences that fit under standard deck foundations and standard wall heights.

The indoor pools, I thought you could just put pools right next to walls. This may only be for foundations though, or maybe you place the pool first and place the wall next. The tutorial for second story pools might help with that.

I worked out part of my stuff, using the deck foundation along with the normal foundation to use it to let light into basements with windows without exposing the walls to the outside.
But two more things escape me. I am thinking I need the CFE cheat to do it which rarely works for me no matter what I do, so I hope it doesn't heh.
I am not good and posting pics on here so I will post the link to two of plasticbox's houses that have the things that caught my notice I would like to duplicate.
The first is a basement pool, I can make these, but it always lowers the ground outside the basement if the pool is against the wall. I notice in this house it doesn't. (As a note this lot was shrunk with lot adjuster, not sure if that makes a difference)

The second is lattice that looks to be decking on the porch as a trellis

I am really hoping these don't take cfe, but since it's so common to use I bet it does. I just wish I could get cfe to work for me.

Pools always flatten the ground around them when you build them first, but you can just reshape it after the pool is done. I don't recall whether or not cfe needs to be turned off for that.
Re. the trellis, I don't recall how exactly I built that specific house (too long ago), but the key points are:
1. when you build a foundation (deck or regular), it'll only create walls where there is no wall yet – so in order to build just one wall of foundation, build a U shape with regular walls first, then the foundation, then delete the walls again.
2. To make the foundation as high as a wall, most likely I built the house first, then added the trellis while cfe was false (so the foundation pulld the other walls down to 4 clicks high), then pulled it all up again from some other part of the house.
If you have general problems with the constrainfloorelevation cheat, I'd recommend you try to get those sorted out – there's a lot of interesting things you can only build with that cheat. Can you elaborate on what problem you're having with using it?

Most of the time I do the cheat it does not work. I do boolprop contrainfloorelevation false and nothing happens, I don't use caps when I do the testingcheatsenabled true and it works fine. I can get it to work now and then, but as far as I can tell I don't do anything different from one time to the next.

I do boolprop contrainfloorelevation false and nothing happens
Watch for typos .. it's constrainfloorelevation, not contrain.

Silly typos, I do check when I do it, I promise!

sometimes you will need to use capitals like this boolprop ConstrainFloorElevation false
My game it won't work unless it is typed exactly like that.

Even if the other boolprop ones don't need it? I know the cheats one doesn't although it isn't fully usable unless you leave the lot and come back or do it in the neighborhood screen, like you can shift+click on things but can't more motive bars or skills levels etc until you leave and come back if you typed it in lot. It doesn't work though without caps. Have to try the other with the caps and see.

Oh. I noticed you were asking about pools too! I re found a tutorial I used awhile ago, it should work for basements as well...if anything I think the basement pool would be easier.
Unfortunatly it is from the exchange...I know many are against this site...but it is only a tutorial:)

you dont need a cheat for it...
1. put normal foundation
2. hold shift and put lattice foundation on the normal foundation
