My Sims' computers don't have the "write novel" option, why is it and how do I fix this?
I have Double Deluxe and Best of Business installed. I have no custom content, no hacks, nothing imported from body shop, just the core games. I tried searching for "novel" in the forum keywords and didn't find anything related to my problem. Help?
I'm on Window 7 64 bit, just fyi.

I don't know what Double Deluxe and Best of Business include, but the "Writing a novel" came with the Free Time EP.

Writing a novel is a base game feature, FT introduced the ability to write different types of novels and to give them custom titles.

That's what I thought, too. Did they take it away from Double Deluxe? Does anyone have only Double Deluxe installed but can still write a novel? If not, um, does install Freetime allows me to have this ability again? (I don't want to judge by uninstalling Best of Business myself because just in case it's somehow just my disk that's messed up.)

Well, when I only had Double Deluxe my Sims couldn't write novels. I hoped that it would change when I installed Best of Business, but it didn't. So I'm in the same boat as you.

Really? I was always under the [false, apparently] impression it was a FT feature.

By any chance did you recently (or EVER) install the incredibly useless Store Edition???? I am having the same issue and have contacted EA about it. I went so far as to re-install all of my expansions & I checked EACH time to make sure the opt was still there. Once I got to the Store Edition that option & a couple of others went AWOL!!!! And some of my turn-ons/turn-offs did as well.......I'm still waiting on a fix, But just an FYI it appears to be a problem. I have the regular cd edition, pets, seasons, best of business collection & university collection. ALL work fine BEFORE adding the store Edition :(

Wait, I don't have to install the Store edition to be able to play? I thought that's part of the Double Deluxe package...

It may be....I don't know about the Double Deluxe version. I DO know that if you uninstall the Store Edition then your games won't work anymore since it saves in a different format than TS2. SO DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!!! I got Store Edition as an add on to the Business Collection Download. (There was a link in the "read me" and it seemed like a good idea at the time). I backed up my neighborhoods (I've got 8 full ones) and I'm waiting on EA (yawn) to respond again. I have about half a dozen sims with "stagnant" wants because all they REALLY want is to write that darn novel. I haven't found any help on this anywhere so we may be stuck waiting

Or I guess we could go buy Freetime. Maybe that fixes it... but if that does I have to give EA more money to fix lol

Well, since I was planning on doing it anyway (as a treat for my B-day) I installed the Free Time. Which does.....indeed fix the issue. I have YET to see if it has created others though. LOL I do however believe that to have to pay for another game....to fix a game you already paid for is just crazy. (Yes I know that makes me crazy) There should be a fix to this issue. I personally, even though the EP fixed it, WANT an answer. I'm stubborn that way! I'm still waiting on EA & I'll let you know what happens!!

EA is unlikely to produce any future patches for Sims 2. As far as EA is concerned, TS2 is a dead game. No one at EA is doing development for it.

I pretty much figured that. The way it goes. I'm just hoping that there is something already out there that could be used/done to fix it. I have no dreams that EA will actually DO anything new for it. I just would prefer to get rid of Store Edition ya know??

I gather that it's not possible to uninstall just the Store Edition?
Is it possible to use the AnyGameStarter to remove the Store Edition temporarily? If so, it should be possible to make those changes to the registry permanent, effectively uninstalling the Store Edition. If you can create an AnyGame without the Store Edition, but with all other EPs and SPs, I'd be happy to look at your AppFiles folder to see whether I can make you a REG file which will permanently make those changes for you.
Alternatively, you could just use that AnyGame, rather than your full game.

Yeah, the Store edition IS the base Sims 2 game in the Double Deluxe. So in order for me to play, uh, the base game I need it.
I might as well just go buy more expansion packs lol Sims 2 is addictive alright.

Well...here's the "thing", my back-up drive that housed the PRE-Store Edition games kinda had an unfortunate accident :( Soooo I'm up for suggestions. Having the FT expansion pack now, would I still lose those turn on's/turn offs and the jewelry option thing If I remove SE?? I know that without Store Edition I don't have the jewelry option and I have MINIMAL options on the TO/TO. I mean those are no big deal. Just wondering. If I un-install FT & SE, copy the 8 (post Store Edition) neighborhoods THEN re-install FT would I be able to play them? And that AnyGame thing??? What is it & what could I do with it? Sorry....I'm not up on this stuff. I've been playing a LONG time but with minimal hacks/mods/etc... Thanks for your time (and patience LMAO)

Yes it is! That's why I just went ahead & got the exp pack. We have given in to financial terrorism!

I TAKE BACK WHAT I SAID!
Problem solved. I uninstalled everything, and then reinstalled everything minus the Store Edition. I didn't realize the Store Edition was totally NOT THE BASE GAME HOMG.
Feeling kinda dumb now, but yeah, hey, my Sims can write novels again. :) Thanks everybody for y'all's help!
Although this doesn't mean I don't want more Sims 2 expansion packs . . .

If I un-install FT & SE, copy the 8 (post Store Edition) neighborhoods THEN re-install FT would I be able to play them?My guess is that neighborhoods played with the Store Edition will not work without it. You'd also lose any new abilities that the SE gave you.
And that AnyGame thing??? What is it & what could I do with it?The AnyGameStarter is a tool which allows you to select which EPs and SPs you want to play with. For example, I have an AnyGame setup with just the base game which I use for building, another with just the base game and university for a university subhood that I'm building, another with a selection of EPs that I use to play Elsewhere. If the Store Edition doesn't allow you to uninstall it directly, the AnyGameStarter may know how to get around that. The AGS is available here:
http://wwww.modthesims.info/download.php?t=250555
However, you'll have the same problem with the AnyGameStarter that you will if you uninstall the Store Edition; either one will lose you the things that came with the SE.

THANK YOU! I may just try that AnyGame thing if nothing else, just for the variety. I appreciate your time :D If it doesn't work out, I'm just going to start over. Kinda sucks, but it will keep me from being bored (I think!)
I did FINALLY get a response from EA. And, may I say.... NEENER, NEENER, NEENER to them! LMAO!!! After much arguing and pulling of my hair at the blatantly OBVIOUS fact that the game was the issue & not me or my computer (and the added bonus that I'm NOT stupid), the "tech" did some research & found out that the Store Edition does not like to work with "some of the newer expansion packs". She neglected to say which ones ((rolling my eyes here)). SOOO, I figured I would post it in case anyone else comes here to find the answer to a similar issue.
