Is there a way to look at a recolor file in SimPE and find out what mesh it uses? More specifically the name of the custom mesh file?

Nope - the only link between the two is in the 3DIR and will be the TGI (type/group/instance) of the CRES and SHPE used by the custom mesh. I -think- Delphy's Download Organiser can tell you what mesh is used by a recolour though, since it includes scanning the 3DIRs to see the links to find orphans (recolours without meshes, meshes without recolours).
