Glitch? Dog Starves Itself

Okay, so I have all expansions and such, no custom content, just recently installed everything, and all patches are installed (as it checks for that when installing the game).

My only Sims at the moment adopted a dog, but the dog refuses to eat, even when called to eat. Have to try multiple times to "Call to Eat" and the dog will come to the (full) food dish, but will sit there and whine with the hungry thought bubble above his head.
The pet services people have taken him away twice because of this. It says he's starving but he won't eat. (His hunger bar also isn't filled while he's at work)
It's ridiculously frustrating when there's food and the dog's been called to eat, but he just won't. He keeps being taken away because when he comes home from work his hunger is so low you get the warning 'Your pet is starving' and I can't "Call to Eat" enough times quickly enough for him to eat before they come to take him away.

Any advice?

Some dogs come pre-trained to only eat sim food. Try making a plate of sim food, stopping the sim from eating it, and then place it on the floor. When the dog goes to eat it, scold the dog. That should make it so it will not only want to eat sim food, and you can praise it for eating dog food after that.

Also, sometimes finicky pets will refuse to eat from a cheap pet dish until they are starving. Buy the most expensive dish and see if he will eat from it. I think that it is more common with cats but I think dogs can do it too.

Thanks, I'll give the expensive pet dish a try. Considering they got him as a puppy and he had no trained behaviours I don't think that's an issue. As a puppy he would only eat when his hunger bar was almost empty.
