View Full Version : Smelly bartenders and bouncers

Maybe it is my fault for having a mod that extends opening time of bars and clubs. But I always see my bartenders, bouncers, and sometimes pianists (there aren't many in town) with the green smoke coming out of them.
I can fix it by clicking "NRaas > Master Controller > Intermediate > Max Motives". Obviously I am using the godly power of Twallan's Master Controller to fix things, but this is getting old and a bit tedious.
How do you guys deal with these role assigned NPCs since we can't honestly play their households (they are homeless NPC) or tell them to go take a shower.
Side note: often we make friends with bartenders, to a point we occasionally want to invite them over our home for a visit. This act of friendship really pulls them off their job and essentially allows them to be replaced by TS3 within 30 seconds (and Master Controller or Overwatch will pop a message). So inviting my long time friend bartender will cost him his job. :rofl:
Any way around it, or fraternizing with them is a taboo and to be avoided at all cost? I can still invite over policemen, firemen (the NPCs that show up when the house is on fire or being robbed) and housemaids without costing their jobs. I mean invite over by calling them and "Invite over", not calling Police, fire department, or order housemaid.

I don't think that what you describe here has ever happened to my game. I was always under the impression that the motives of roled Sims are locked while their job lasts. If you ever check the personal status of a roled Sim you'll notice that their amount of lifetime happiness points is incredibly huge after a while, and especially cash register NPCs will have tens of thousands of lifetime happiness points. This is only possible if their motives are always maxed out. I particularly observed this with merchants in vacation worlds that as soon as they are behind their register their motives are at 100%. I had one "broken" merchant whose motives behaved normally though and he was constantly tired, hungry and smelly. But he also always left his position and wandered around.
So, my conclusion is that something in your game prevents this and lets your bar staff's motives decay like any other Sim's or at least lets them decay at some point. Because as soon as they acquire the smelly moodlet they will emit those green fumes forever, even though their hygiene may be full again. This bloody moodlet sticks to them like, well, a smelly sock.

The same happens with food and merchant goods cashier NPCs, but they are supposed to work 24/7, so that explains it in this particular case.
But ever since the release of Ambitions I've made it a personal rule to never mess with roled Sims. I do regard them and their families as untouchables.
On a side note: the message you received is probably not by Overwatch or MasterController. I've never received one of these yet.

Actually I need to clarify that this does not happen to every single roled sim I run into in my sim's daily adventure. It is just maybe 20-40% of the case. And also to mention it is not the case of sticky moodlet either because as soon as I "max motive" them, their green fume will disappear within seconds and they are all happy and dandy again.
In my "Business and Restaurant" lot, marked as "No visitor allowed", this is a default lot in Bridgeport. It has a bar in the back. It was empty as usual when I first started to play Bridgeport, but within a week, a mixologist was assigned. This lot was originally a "Community lot", something that we can no longer set. I did something with it and now placing it again requires me to choose something, so I chose "No visitor allowed" to prevent this place to become downtown central. It is quite busy as it is with enough Business, Restaurant, and Journalism sims coming in and out for work. I am not sure why TS3 assigned a bartender there when it didn't assign at the first place. Was it because I downloaded "The Register" from Twallan? Anyway, the assigned mixologist there "always" get the smelly fume, maybe because she is always there 24/7 without a break? "No visitor allowed" lot never has open/close time.
But this does not mean normal EA default bars' bartenders/bouncers don't get smelly fume, I just don't run into them that often. Or maybe I never visit the same bar every single day. But my sim does go to work 5 days a week in the Business building, and I think I have to "max motive" the coffee stand girl every other day.
Interesting, that's a thing I've always wanted to know, whether they'll lose their role once you invite them. The same happens with food and merchant goods cashier NPCs, but they are supposed to work 24/7, so that explains it in this particular case.

Well, club employees do work a lot of hours too. And especially with the mods I have, they work 20-22 hours a day (that is how long clubs stay open in my game).
If it is not Overwatch or MC, it must be "The Register". I know so because the moment I put down a bar in community lot and switch to play mode, a message will pop out almost instantly telling a sim's name is assigned as mixologist. And clicking on the message I can even zoom in that sim's current location, very likely taking a taxi to his/her new role.
Their families? I have never met a roled sim with family at all. TS3 always finds homeless sims to assign roles to. And if there isn't any homeless sim, TS3 will spawn new one. In fact, we can manually assign role to non NPC sims with an actual household and lot. But, as confirmed by Twallan, switching to that household via Edit Town will cause sim to lose role. The only way to allow sim to keep that role is switching via "Make Active" command via Master Controller. It is rather hard to maintain player made sims to keep a role because it is not easy to switch using Make Active command (we have to see the sim to make active).

Well, maxmotives will remove the moodlet. What I mean is that their hygiene might nevertheless be at 99%, but the moodlet will only vanish when hygiene is at 100. So, your mixologist might not really be dirty after all but may have peed himself some time before going to work or several days ago and even though his hygiene might have been raised again, the moodlet will stick. You can notice this at Nectaries: When inactive Sims pee themselves there they will not take a shower afterwards, because their hygiene is locked at 80%. They will receive the moodlet, however, because their motive is not locked at 100%.
What I wanted to say, it's hard to judge from the green cloud alone whether they really have low motives. You'd have to check with MasterController Basic>Mood, too, in order to see, ehether there's something wrong.
But as I said, I have never seen this happening in my game with regard to LN NPCs.
There are some roled Sims that might have a family, however, like the consignment clerk (Lady Cook in my Bridgeport) or the Stylist (Sugar Bijou in my BP).
Yeah, and the message must be Register then, because that's a mod I don't have.

Hmm, you may be right. The good thing is we have Master Controller that allows us to see everything. So the next time I see Benello Ti with the smelly fume I will examine her closely before I max motive her. She is the girl assigned to work at the "coffee stand" in Bussiness complex, well essentially it is a bar.
You should download "The Register". It is one neat program as you can change or assign different sims to a role. Because sometimes it is just odd to have certain sims holding certain roles. One of my "Chinese take out" restaurant always has a black guy or some red neck looking guy as food register. Not meaning to be racist, but it is really odd to see them there. So "the register" is to help me reassign the role to someone look remotely Chinese. Or the case of this disco club with permanent black light on. The bartender is usually a hot big boob girl wearing bikini, but sometimes there is a skinny guy wearing swim trunk in her place. So "The register" will fix that.
I am going to investigate this further, I think you are right as I have seen Lady Cook being some roled sim somewhere. Sugar Bijou became a fire fighter, not the NPC ones that you call for fire, but the one that becomes co-worker in fire station. But yes, I am used to some of these names that I can no longer tell if they are just homeless NPC or someone more significant.
But stay tuned, I will wait to see Benelo Ti get smelly again.

Funny that she is part of the same homeless household that Pin Yin is. And both have given me endless trouble, no matter what role they had.

The same reason why I haven't tried the Woohooher yet.
But now that you mention it. For my version of the Chinese Take-out King and the other bars in town I created the W*ng family: Si Nan Weng, Bao Wang and Suzy Wong (that still leaves me room for Wing and Wung). They all share some basic traits and if ever one fails to man their bar the other one will take over without changing my story of a Chinese clan having taken over the booze business in my island world :)

Sorry I have run into some problems that requires saving, loading, and restarting TS3 that I didn't get to see Benelo Ti smelly again (did I spell her name wrong or you did?) And also having to reply to someone in the main discussion forum about his CC.
By the way, I know it is your game and you can do anything you want, but there is no "Weng" in Chinese last name. There is Wong as a pronunciation of Cantonese dialect, which is officially pronounced as Huang, means "Yellow color". There are 2 different Wang (written differently, but I guess you don't need to care), which means "King" or "Lord". And "Wing" is actually an English last name. "Wung" is unknown. But if you have to press the issue, there are 50+ Chinese dialects, combining with foreign languages pronunciations (Korean, Japanese, and any place that has heavy Chinese influence), there ought to be a "Wung" somewhere. One of my friend from Australia with the last name "Goh" which was what her dialect pronounces, but often and way more popularly known as "Ng" or "Wu" in Western countries.
"Yin" is indeed a Chinese last name, which is also a Korean last name, but it is spelled "Eun" instead, so "Yin" mostly points to Chinese origin. Although Pin Yin doesn't look Chinese at all. If I have to guess, she looks more like an American actress back in the 1940-1950 if I am to change her hair color.
But anyway, disregard it if you don't really care. But here I have the result for Ti Bellino. I am looking at her "Mood" window.
Energy = -100
Hunger = -70
Hygiene = -100
Bladder = 100
Doesn't look like she peed anywhere because I can see, or maybe Overwatch would clean up the lot every night. The current time in my sim world is 7:39am. However, I also want to point out that sims' bladder will not decay on lot without toilet. I ran into that problem before with AwesomeMod and I now make sure AM will not enable bladder decay more than what default EA is.

For every new mixologist I use another vowel a-e-i-o-u and I think Weng was a name the game came up with. And if W*ng is used up I might use Y*ng or Ch*ng. As far as I understand it the game uses Chinese family names quite often as first names anyway, so it's fairytale China in any case.

Will it hurt to try without that mod that extends closing time?

Well between having to "Max motive" these sims whenever I see them and giving up extended opening time, I rather pick the first.
Btw, if you did read, Benillo Ti works on the "No visitor allowed" lot, so closing time does not even matter to her at all. I don't know how TS3 handles roled sims in this lot type, but I am pretty sure she is there 24/7.

I still think, however, that this whole role system is a terrible mess anyway.
And it wouldn't hurt too much to at least try whether this mod is messing with that. Because you could still contact the creator then and suggest some corrections.
NB: She *is* called Ti Bellino. I had to reset her so often that I can write her name as if it was my own.

Got some ... neither good nor bad news:
After disabling The Register, loading my game shows Ti Bellino falling flat on the ground passed out. It appears that "The Register" enables role services on all community lots by default. Without it, "No visitor allowed" lot won't get an NPC. It doesn't list anywhere on its website. http://www.the-isz.com/nraas/index.php?topic=73.0
Either that or I am just not good with hunting for stuff with Twallan's writing.
