I originally started this subject in the object recoloring thread, and have made progress and am now looking for opinions on what I've done so far with one guitar. After diddling around with the dean from hell and razorbacks back and forth in simpe and paint - just doing colored "graph" work to figure out what was whete, frankly it was taking forever and I got sick of it, but lo and behold! some other helpful tut on here told me how to see the uv map for stuff. So I made a uv map bmp of the dean from hell guitar and got a really good idea of where things were.
My present almost done project follows with my test lot subject:

this is the Dime Tribute MLX (2010). In this pic it looks almost black like Maxis objects (I followed directions and made my black a really dark gray instead so my guitar wouldn't look like a black hole in space in game). But in game when the guitar was on its rack, it looked just plain gray. Helpful advice on wheter I should darken it or leave as is?

See? It looks much lighter over here in the sun. I discovered that the template I made from the uv mapper bmp was a few pixels short all around the front. The back doesn't have that problem. Just letting anyone else who makes a template my way know before they start.
Besides that, here is a list of obvious faults I can see:
1. the frets on the fretboard I made go wonky colors -- why I dont' know since I used the same sized down real fret for all of them. any suggestions on making a homemade fretboard that looks nice?
2. althought the skull jack plate is cool, it isn't on this guitar for real and looks out of place
3. the pickups are not reversed like on the real guitar with a white on top on the top one and white on the bottom on the bottom one. I went into uv mapper and pulled the pickups apart and made a new template but haven't ran it thru simpe yet to see if that will work
4. the real guitar has a different bridge set up that I facsimiled onto this one, how can I get rid of the shine on the original bridge's top rim so that it doesn't detract from the slanted little silver bridge pickup? (Even if I were smart enought to redo the bridge set up in a 3d program, I dont know if it would be an acceptable upload at MTS)
5. Should I raise the wing bridge a little higher from the bottom? That is where it's placed on the real guitar but on my Simmy one, it just looks too low to me.
6. Yes, I know the knobs are opposite the colors they should be. Duh. I was looking at something else when I did that.
7. And once again, the color -- black? darker gray? leave as is?

Other question on same topic matter---
The amp won't recolor on the atavera mesh, but I made a clone and the amp I have set up to recolor shows up with it's paintshop patches. What's the deal with that? Is there a way to make recolors for the amp that work with the design tool? They don't on atavera's mesh.

Thanks for any help
