Hello,
I would like to know which one is better for movie making? Sims 2 or Sims3?
I want to film a love story. I can play both games well.
I know how to record on FRAPS and edit on Sony Vegas on amateur level
I have never filmed TS2 or TS3, which one is easier in terms of custom content, hacks to control emotions, animation hacks, filming cheats (like disabling Sims interface, thought bubbles etc).
Thank you in advance for you reply! :)
PS: I searched the forums but can't find my answer, sorry if this has been asked before.

from personal experience.. The Sims 3 is the most easiest..but yet the most hardest to film in. (makes no sense does it?)
Meaning, in The Sims 2, you have to make parameters for shots and for the camera man mode.. but in The Sims 3, they already have that all built in.. and the video camera file is very simple to edit.
But yet, The Sims 2 has more hacks and animations and all sorts of stuff like that to really make the film look nice and real.. when Sims 3 doesn't have all of that yet.. so it may be more challenging.
If you decide Sims 3, take a look at my machinima tutorial (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=440657) for some helpful hints before you get started :)

Thank you so much for the reply!
After some consideration I have decided to make sims2 movies because of the animations avaliable. :)
I hope to share my creations with the forum one day. :D

I prefer TS2 for its flexibility. Sims 3, there's a linear timeline you have to follow, and with Sims 2 there's no worrying that your neighbours may move away or have a child while you film at another house. Also sims 2 has more manipulative parameters. In TS3, you need to edit the parameters, in Sims 2, it's totally optional. I've seen great movies done either way. Also character creation is better in TS2, but TS3 gives you the option to customise you you really have to weigh what you want out of your game.

I would go with sims 2 it's easier and you can use parameters if you need some go on youtube and search sims 2 parameters there a tutorials on there some of them contain the parameter text so you can putt it in the file that they tell you to hope you do well :)

In my personal opinion after filming on Sims 2, Sims 3, Sims medieval and the original Sims game.
Sims 2 is the one a personally prefer for film making as there is more items around at the moment for the movie makes and storytellers that use Sims. There are more tutorials, poseboxs and animation boxes. There is however a slight risk with using poseboxs and animation boxes, some of these (not all them) may put your game at risk.
Sims 3 does have good animation but at the moment I have found little for Sims 3 in the way of poseboxes for the game. There is also a problem with filming using the in game video capture as it has graphic problems (more info here: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=455127 )
There is also another option but is a rare to find anything for it or even any films made using it, the Sims medieval. With the same graphics as Sims 3 but set in the medieval era but there is not that many options apart from the basic video capture option. The game does not have the same features for filming as Sims 2 and 3 have but instead going back to the original Sims game filming style. If you want to do anything like that in the Sims medieval I recommend using it for story telling.
Also taking in to account that you have Vegas, you could make great looking movies in Sims 2 if you play your cards right.
If it is possible, is there any chance of converting animations from Sims 3 to Sims 2?
