View Full Version : Weird lag issues (all DLC bar Pets)

I keep experiencing lag where animations are still working, but I can't pull up any action menus (I can move my mouse and click but nothing happens) and time does not pass.
This seems to happen most frequently when I have the game on ultra-speed. I can fix it by switching back to Normal, and waiting, but it keeps happening.
I am running 64-bit Windows 7, with 8GB of RAM and a ATI Radeon HD 6850 with 1GB of its own memory and a 3.2GHz AMD Phenom II 955 (quadcore). I have very, very recently purchased the game and all DLC except Pets. The only custom content I have is a few Create-A-Sim items, and some buy mode items.
I have read other threads about this, and I am wondering, has anyone found a fix? I have tried turning my graphics settings down a bit (particularly reflections and game detail, as well as turning render nearby lots right down) and avoiding running too much in the background (I like to listen to podcasts while I play, so I have the game muted) but it doesn't seem to help.

Sims 3 - Freezes and Lags
If you encounter any freezes or lags in gameplay, try the suggestions in Game Help:Intermittent Freezes.
If issue persists, please also answer the questionnaire in the Intermittent Freeze Sticky (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=425027)
Er, don't play on UltraSpeed? ;)
You haven't read the above wiki?
Then, do the suggestions in there and let us know if they still don't work, what you have tried exactly.

Freezing has occurred since installation of the base game via Steam about 4 weeks ago (2 weeks prior to release of Pets & 1.26 patch).
Saves
Is this on a brand new Bridgeport town or a pre-LN save?
Bridgeport post-LN.
If new Bridgeport, how long in SimTime has this save been running for? What's the total folder size?
About 20 days in-game, size is 198MB.
Tested a CC-free game of Bridgetown, yet?
EDIT: Yes, it still occurs.
Sims/Household/Population
Is this a custom or default Household on a custom or default Lot?
Custom house, default lot.
If custom - downloaded or self-built / self-create ?
Self-made, with some CC items from Buy mode.
What is the Lot size?
43X34
How do you generally play? Stick to one Household or Switch families?
One household.
How many Sims in the Household you normally play?
Two adults.
The freeze/lag symptoms only for this Household or all Households when you switch?
Don't know, but it does happen on vacation.
If you visit a comm Lot, how many Sims usually turn up?
Haven't really been keeping track, but other Sims do wander around normally.
If you know how to do this using a mod, how many Sims are in this town's save? ie total population of the world, how many generations, etc..
Haven't been able to find out, but it's default Bridgeport and not for very long so I don't think there could be much.
Careers
What careers are these Sims in?
Both unemployed.
Or does it coincide with the arrival/departure of the ServiceNPCs - MailDelivery, Newspaperdelivery, Maid, Butler, etc
No.
If not, is there a pattern on when the freeze would occur?
It happens more often if the speed is on Ultra-fast, but will happen even on double speed and normal. There is no freezing or lag if time is paused. If I switch back to normal, it will lag erratically for a few seconds then get back to normal.
Routing
You have checked the town for stuck Sims, repeatedly doing the same action over and over? Due to
broken script mods
stuck into the ground,
stuck in-between floors,
stuck from Lot threshold routing issues ie some borked RabbitHole/Comm Lot placements
faulty routing of some custom worlds
Yes, there don't appear to be any stuck sims.
Have you tried the "fixAll" / "reset world" / "Reset everything" etc via Awesomemod or MasterController?
I don't have these mods.
Describe what happens, what action(s) prompted it or what you were doing whenever this freeze gets triggered.
Almost anything, but it's usually if I'm on ultra-speed. I use ultra-speed to skip through sleeping and long journeys.
Does the freeze recover eventually and you can resume playing or do you have to end the game process and do Ctrl+Alt+Del each time it occurs?[i]
The game does eventually recover.
[i]If the game can recover, how longs does it normally take in SimTime to resume? ie how many seconds/minutes/hours of gameplay was in suspended animation mode?
In sim-time, probably about 30-40 minutes.
What have you tried that hasn't work? Work for a while...?
I've turned my graphics settings well down, and deleted and uninstalled all my custom content.
List all the packs that you have: BG + ... {WA} {AMB} {LN} {HELS} {FLS}. And if you're not on patch 1.17 series, list what patch version(s) you're on.
BG+WA, AMB, LN, Generations, HELS, FLS, OLS, TLS.
Patch 1.26.91 (BG)
State which mods from the above suggested list you've used.
I don't have any of them.

Repost of my post in the sticky thread.
I've also tried making a new no-CC world in Sunset Valley, with a default house and family, and it's still doing it. I'm not sure turning my graphics down is helping at all.
I have had some issues on other games because of my quad-core processor, but Sims 3 seems to have support for that. Beyond that I can't think of anything else. The fact that the lag seems to fix itself on a lower time speed makes me think that maybe the game engine is getting ahead of the processor or vice versa. It's still annoying me.
(I play on Ultra-Speed to skip when Sims are sleeping or when I just want to skip through bits of the Action Queue. While I don't mind playing something else in the background, it annoys me that I end up doing that. Plus the game seems to pause time if it's not the active window.)
I'm going to try downloading ellacharm3d's repaired worlds and see if this is related to the bad routing in Bridgeport or not. I'm also looking at velocitygrass' memories mod - I turned off memory notifications, but it might be worth trimming down on the memory saving.

I don't have these mods.
...
I don't have any of them. But, you're supposed to post in the questionnaire thread only after doing the suggestions in the Wiki don't help clear up Lags.
Playing on pure 100% vanilla game would give you lags, even with my routing fixes. Because the game engine would generate all those vehicles, create stuff and don't clear them off properly and thus have "ghost" links and spawn other stuff non-stop.
