Afternoon All -
I am trying to figure out the best way to extend the amount of land associated to a residential lot and still have it functional beyond just open grassy areas. I noticed that Appaloosa Plains does this by fencing in extra areas and only making them accessible through the residential lot -- but for the most part, they are just open tracks on land.
I have a lot of ideas and not a lot of time (I work full-time and almost 20 years after college decided to go for my Masters. I have a few weeks before the semester starts again and I want to use them efficiently) -- so I would appreciate any information or experience that could help me figure out what works and what doesn't.
What I want to do:
Create an "estate" with a residential lot for the house, garage, etc but have the land behind it or beside it (and not part of the residential lot) landscaped into a sculpted garden or area that which is most open lawn area with a few jumps for horse back riding, or even an orchard / grape vines, etc.
Background:
I have been toying with the idea of using fencing and other natural boundaries to extend lot size. I noticed EA did this in Appaloosa Plains (?) for some of the bigger ranches, etc.
I placed a community lot in one of the open fields that is grafted on to my test family's lot by fencing and it was a disaster. I placed the lot, marked as a horse ranch and set up a jump course added a water trough and a ball. It was a disaster.... I had 5 people, 3 horse and one employee traipsing through the family's yard as it was the only way to access the new community lot. While I was able to run the jumping course, my horse wouldn't play with the ball - the action just dropped out of the queue.
I haven't tried 'No Visitors allowed' or owning the lot yet to see what effect that has on playability. I like building more than playing, so the only venues I have owned in my game playing are rabbit holes. I know that if a venue is rated 0, its closed -- but what does that mean? Can you set an owned venue to closed no matter how nice it is?
Well, my lunch hour is about over, so its back to work I go. I will check in tonight and maybe add so pics/diagrams to better explain my idea.
