Woke up this morning to the parents updating my graphics card (theyre both highly computer savy, our house is like nasa) it all went smoothly, restarted and tested them out on youtube to show that it was working fine... then I opened sims 3. At first it was fine, no problems loading, then it asked me whether or not i wanted to turn on edge scrolling. there was a small fault in the text, one of the buttons was missing half of a letter T. I assumed it was nothing, as my families were still there and entered the game. This is what i met:

There are blue 'holes' all over the town. and im getting the glitch where the land shoots up into triangles and blocks my view and this is ALL towns, nomatter what i do, i have dropped all settings to minimum, and its STILL happening, none of us have any idea why or how to fix it. And it still happens on windowed mode. the image is a shot taken with settings described above.

The card is : ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 series
The update HAS been done properly so its not that.
I have ALL The Sims 3 EPs minus the new Katy Perry stuff pack

Any help much appreaciated!
Thanks!

Uh, Mobility 4500/5100? Upgrades on a laptop? Are you sure?
Upgraded from what? What is the old card/chipset, I'm almost afraid to ask? the 4500/5100 series is not an upgrade worth changing to.

Remove the Options.ini file and let the game regenerate a new one.

The Desktop versions of the 45xx model shows all Reds on the Wiki, so, this glitch is not that surprising, really.

Please post Game Help:System Specs.

ps: nobody has the new Katy Perry Stuff Pack. Did I lose a few months and it's already Jun? Talk about losing time! :)

Opps! :faceslap: Misread, sorry!

Semantic shemantics, eh?
... updating my graphics card ...One of my pet peeves - we say update graphics drivers (software) and upgrade graphics card (hardware), so that phrase jumbled my brain.

I still need to see specs to confirm the updates is applied successfully and if the DxDiag report does not show the laptop's exact model number, I need to know that too. Can you ask your parents for the site they download from, or the actual link for the program they update the drivers with?
- Is it for the correct model? The update was not blocked by the OEM laptop check?
- Correct Windows OS and bit version?

Like I already mentioned, it is not surprising for the card to act up. For one, it's pretty aged by now and the specs - most cards with Memory Bus Width of 64bits don't do well for very long on Sims - see links above. For another, while technically not an onboard chipset, it is still a pretty under-equipped piece of component to play Sims 3 with. Also read - Game Help:Your Computer is Like a Car.
