View Full Version : Possible Sitting Mod?

Hello all,

I have a question and I hope someone might be able to help - is it at all possible to create a mod that gives a new interaction for sitting cross-legged? I've seen the animation pop up when the Sims use it autonomously and I quite like it; I would actually love the choice of picking my female Sims to sit like this whenever possible. My query is how would I go about isolating that animation and making it stand-alone, then creating an interaction mod, so when I click on chairs or sofas, or any sitting surface it could work on, I can choose to sit 'cross-legged' ? Does anyone think this is possible?

Any help/advice/points in the right direction would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Enjoji :)

Are you talking about sims sitting cross-legged on the ground when using the picnic basket or doing homework or an adult tutoring a child; or are you talking about the sim sitting on a sofa or chair and on occasion they cross one single leg over the other leg?

If it is the last one, the CLIPs on this are in the FullBuild0 titled like: a2o_chairLiving_sit_crossedLeg_back_loop_x. There are 12 of these CLIPs, I really don't know why there are so many, or which specific animation each of them is playing.

Hi Shimrod,

Yep, it would be the second one where they sit with one leg crossed over the other....
12 clips? Wow; yeah, I wonder why there are so many too. So I guess I'd have to go through each one and find the right one, and then somehow take it and create a separate interaction so it's an option when sitting. I know the animation works on sofas and living chairs, but it would be cool to have it work on dining chairs, benches, and other appropiate seating. Hmmmm..... off to take a look. Thanks Shimrod; if you or anyone else have any more ideas or advice on this would be great :)

EDIT: another query - would it be better to have this as an object mod and add the interaction to the chairs etc, or as a stand-alone mod that affects the Sim (if that's possible)? I found a tutorial on object modding & adding interactions here on MTS, so am going to have a look and see if that avenue is possible...

For sim to object interactions you always need multiple animations. I didn't look, but if these 12 animations contain children, teenager and adult animations, then 12 isn't that big of a deal. You always need at least one entry and one exit animation and then the main animation. Others may be scooting, watching TV and the respective reactions, socializing etc.

would it be better to have this as an object mod and add the interaction to the chairs etc, or as a stand-alone mod that affects the Sim (if that's possible)?A bit of the prior and a bit of the latter. ;) In this particular case, a stand-alone mod (pure scripting mod) that adds interactions to e.g. chairs would be the way to go.

Or switch the 2 animation files were they sit normal and cross legged?

So a pure scripting mod sounds like what I should aim for... so I'll go find a tutorial on how to create one first off, lol... That sounds like what I'd like - for the interactions to be added to the chairs etc... I'm still not sure how to incorporate everything (this is new territory for me), but I'll give it a try.

Also Bloom, what did you mean by switching the files? Switching them means they will sit cross-legged most of the time, which I wasn't really looking for. I was hoping to keep the normal sitting animation but have the option to sit cross-legged - didn't want all my Sims sitting like that, lolol :)
