I've always liked the layout and feeling of Riverview, but so many things bothered me too much to enjoy it. The world was way too brightly colored, the homes and lots were damn ugly, there was no room for exapanding the town area and the area for camera and sims to move around was way smaller than it needed to be, making me feel kinda claustrophobic... So I rebuilt the whole thing into a new world experience! The only thing left from the original Riverview is the old town centre island and the layout of rivers. Everything else is totally new!
So this is Brookwoods! I wanted to make a world that would be big enough to fit ALL aspects of ALL of the EPs, while at the same time feeling believable and cohesive, a all-in-one world! Here's information on what this world offers, and I'll start adding pictures as I work the world further. You can tell me what areas you'd like to see pictures of!
Also this world will be pre-populated, with the empty homes and residents ratio being around 50/50 in all areas. I'll also customize ALL NPC sims' too, to minimize pudding in this world!
What I'd like to hear from you guys is just general impressions, questions and suggestions! I really want to make this a world built to last without any weirdness, so don't be shy! :) If you want to know something specific about any aspect, just ask away.
This historical town has always seen motley crues of sims come and go through the town's harbor and railways, and a variety of travellers can still be seen in the local population today. The mysterious woods surrounding the town seem to hide strange things, and the town seems to attract strange people... What secrets lie beyond the idyllic image?
This world has A LOT of different types of homes and residential areas to choose from, so that any type of sim is sure to find a home in this world!
-A thight knitted suburban area includes a lower middle class area, middle class area and upper middle class areas. These homes are cost-efficient classic suburban homes just outside the town. Perfect for couples starting out their families!
-The downtown area has affordable but spacious urban apartments.
-Beachfront homes are located just outside the pier and boardwalk area, viewing over the beach and across the bay!
-Right outside the old town centre is an area of fancy suburban town homes.
-On the other side of the old town, right at the edge of brooks and forrests is an area of grand old victorian homes. There are both smaller victorian townhomes as well as bigger victorian estates to choose from!
-Even fancier, utterly luxurious mansion estates view over the whole town from a hilltop. These are colonial style mansions are equipped with horse stables, which can be converted into gyms, poolhouses or recording studios if horses aren't your sim's style!
-Farm area has a total of 5 64x64 farm lots
-Little grungy trailer park
Here's how the EPs have taken into account:
WA:
-The gym has a sim-fu studio
-There are some tombs in this world too!
AMB:
-There are a many business spaces for the professions, from a salon and consignment store to a private eye's office, two additional empty store spaces and even a ghost hunter's ghost busters style lair headquarters!
GEN:
-This world is suitable for all ages, and all types of sims. There are a vast variety of different kinds of homes, including town apartments for single sims (more on residential features can be found further on) . Also the population has a balanced amount of all ages, so that sims can easily mingle with sims of their own age.
-Babies: Most suburban homes have fully furnished nurseries and all other baby essentials, or atleast enough space to place them.
-Childern: All suburban homes have at least two additional bedrooms for children, and most of them fully furnished! Kids have many peers to get to know to, and with whom to explore the world. There are also numerous BIG outdoor venues to hang out in!
-Teens: Teens can meet up and hang out with their friends on a variety of outdoor and indoor locations. The coffeeshop, school sports field, beach, broadwalk with it's arcade and diner are perfect for teens to spend time in!
-Young adults: The numerous townhomes offer the perfect start for single sims! Enjoy the sights and sounds of the urban area right at your doorstep! Dive right into the nightlife, run your own business or become a professional entertainer!
-Adults: The suburban areas have a wide variety of homes to fit any budget and family situation(read more on all of the residential areas further on)! Start a family in a suburban home, save simoleons for a spacious, fancy victorian home or be the envy of the hood with your lavish mansion!
-Elders: The elders can enjoy their golden years with a variety of indoor and outdoor activities which the town offers. Optionally if you don't want to play your elders, but want to have them around, move them into the fancy nursing home with all services and luxuries imaginable!
LN:
-Clubs! Apartments! Although there are no big highrises in sight, this world has a buzzing nightlife with all essential clubs at the harbor and old town area. Live in a loft, apartment or a townhouse, and party on!
-Bands have clubs ready for their performances!
-There is also a population of vampires too...
Pets:
-There is a large, open farm area, and a lot of big meadows and fields to ride horses around. For those who like less rural feel and more of an upscale feel, the upper-class homes around the town have stables and an upscale equestrian area nearby. So put on those fancy hats and rub shoulders with the rich at the country club!
-The forrests offer a lot of exploring, digging and wildlife for dogs and cats!
-The lots on which wild horses and deer wander on are all located outside the town, all on the same side of the world so that they won't be wandering in the middle of the town, and stay in the woods and meadows.
-Also there are two empty business spaces in town for those who'd want to make a pet shop or something of that sort.
SHT:
-Although there are no big stadiums, this world has a variety of performance venues! Laid-back coffee house (an actual building, no more diner rabbithole!), old variatee theatre, fair at the broadwalk... and even a huge circus area for those large scale shows! The circus area is also surrounded with bandwagons of a variety of interesting performers... join the crew or perform at the town's clubs! The circus is in town, and it offers a whole new twist to Showtime aspects! :)
Some future EP aspects are taken into consideration too -
Magic themed EP:
-The woods, brooks and meadows surrounding the town's Victorian residential areas offer a great surrounding for those witches and fairies! And werewolves have plenty of room to run around the woods and do, erm... whatever they'll be doing in there. :D
Also the gypsy traveller camp is a great location for fortunetellers and such!
Weather & seasons themed EP
-There are spacious backyards on all homes, for possible new seasonal outdoor activities. Additionally, many of the suburban homes have storage spaces.
Also, the sports field next to school and central park is big enough to fit in possible new sports or a skating rink!
-This world has the BIGGEST beach ever! Complete with a coffeehouse, bar, two beach lots, poolside club, community pool and a boardwalk!
-The sky files of this world are intact. The cloudy, foggy skies are separate and removable since they work as a regular package file.
Performance:
This world should function very smoothly, as the open areas are quite flat and the paths leading to higher terrain are routed carefully. But this is bigger world than any EA world (the actual playable area is much bigger), it has more lots and incorporates all EP aspects. But still, there are no weird routing things that EA tends to do which cause lag!
-There are no elevators on nightclubs and other lots, with the exception of downtown's apartment buildings
-All bouncers are on first floor and easily accessible. Also there aren't many bouncers in this world, so you can easily access clubs unless they are very high-brow venues.
-Most lots have numerous doors to entry and enough space to avoid routing problems
-The average lot and building size in this world is bigger than in EA worlds. This allows bigger areas for even greater number of sims to move around in, and to guarantee smooth gameplay and nicer look to spaces too.
-The roads are all connected and placed properly
-band and performer stages have enough space for the performers, and the venues have enough space for audience also.
-The lots on which wild horses and deer wander on are all located outside the town, all on the same side of the world so that they won't be wandering in the middle of the town, and stay in the woods and meadows!

Please keep in mind that this is still a work in progress! You may see weird empty spaces, odd things in buildings, the terrain painting is not done and the foliage is roughly placed...
Also, please don't ask me when this will be done or when a BETA version will be released. I really can't give any specific schedules, but the whole thing should be finished during this summer.

I like it a lot! I wish Riverview was originally like this. I like all the space avaliable and variety of buildings.
My personal favourites are sircus, gypsy camp and appartment lots - very realistic and well done! And not to forget the fields as well.
Some questions though - the skyscrapers near the lighthouse, are they for decorative purposes? How many lots do you have so far?
One thing I find weird - the map seem to be set in several climatic zones (or seasons), at least I get this impression due to variety and colouring of foliage.
I think you've done a great job on the world! Good luck on comleting it.)

The highrises you can see across the bay near the lighthouse are just decorative. The area looked so empty without anything, so I added those to give more of a lively look. They also look awesome at night, since they can be seen directly from the boardwalk and beach!
I don't think that using a couple of different types of foliage is a problem, since they are all in their own areas and blend into surroundings. EA does this in their own worlds too. :) Most of the world's trees are oaks, with the exception of the beach area, which has palms right at the shoreline. These can't be seen far away from that area, so it doesn't look weird. Also I've used banyan trees at the farm area, along the river and near farm homes to give more of a rural feel (plus an endless amount of oaks is quite boring looking). Oh, and there are an occasional autumn-colored trees on farm lots to bring a little variation, but since they are part of lots they can be easily removed if it bothers somebody's eyes. :)
Also the total lot count is 169. I don't think no more lots will be added, so that should be quite static number.

I've been waiting to see more pictures of this world. I think you have a great thing going and I look forward to more information. I especially love the circus tent; I think it is ingenious! That bottom right area in the last picture looks rather empty at the moment. What is going there?

I like it.
What's in the big, flat, industrial looking area down by the lake? Is that the new downtown? Or is it warehouses?

Here's the previous post combined into this one to avoid cluttering.
That bottom right area in the last picture looks rather empty at the moment. What is going there?
You mean by that beach? That'll be the boardwalk. I had already finished it but decided to re-do it a while ago to fit in some SHT stuff, so it looks just empty right now. :/
What's in the big, flat, industrial looking area down by the lake? Is that the new downtown? Or is it warehouses?
The playable downtown is the one with the brick building apartments. There is a warehouse area along the river, it stretches from the green bridge into the harbor.
I changed the whole base color of the world a bit... It just felt a tad too dark, so now it's a bit lighter and fresher toned (you can see the change if you look at the lots which still have the old color visible temporarily). Does it look better? I can change it to any direction easily still at this point, so do tell what you think! :)
I also added some new trees, those lighter colored elms to bring more variation. They have a bit of yellowness in them, which complements the distant terrain nicer than before!

Here's a sports field, which is flagged as a gym! The audience benches are also usable, so sims can actually sit down. But keeping the possible future Seasons EP, the city has a regular indoors gym too.
http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/5043/sportsfield.jpg
Then I re-built the Boardwalk fair a bit! It still has no buildings, but some of the rides are now done, and the nice thing is that they are actually usable! The two carousels have the spring-riders from GEN, which sims can use. The classic carousel isn't usable though, it's just there to look nice. You can also use the arcade style 'machines' I built. The fortune cookie machine will give you fortunes, and the toy grabbing thing will actually give you toys (gnomes). I like a bit of a grungy touch, but I'd really like to hear opinions if it looks too gritty!

Fantastic work so far, I love the grungy look.
The benches on the field are amazing. I've been trying to do something similar using cfe but with no luck, how did you manage to get the different heights so close to each other?

I really love this. But I don't really see the grunge going with the Riverview (or even Brookwoods) vibe. How did you achieve the magic of the toy grabber working?

Yeah, maybe I'll just make the whole thing look just a tad worn out instead of fully grungy... The toy grabber functions as WA's tomb tool, you can actually choose the treasure for it so I chose gnomes!

It's hard to explain, but I did it with cfe by elevating each a bit more than the previous step. It worked out quite easily, since each foundation step is symmetrical!

I like the new trees, they blend in really well, but make the view much more varied and the broadwalk arcades look awesome! You're very creative in using what the game offers.)
I do agree though with previous poster, it's a bit too grungy, maybe you'd go for slightly weathered look instead.
Are the benches on screenshot 5 outside the lot? I actually had some trouble with these - sims tend to use them to eat ice-cream and so on, even if they bought it on the opposite side of the map.
P.S. May I steal your arcade ideas for me world? With credit, of cause. :)

Yes, that's fine with me. :) I'll probably put that lot for upload too, it would be a nice performance venue in many types of worlds, since those SHT lots don't quite fit all worlds too well...
The benches are indeed outside the lot... I had no idea sims could sit down when eating the ice-cream, mine usually just stand a few steps away from the truck eating. :/ Thanks for that info, I'll have to test that and if it doesn't work out I'll just remove them!
Allrightey, the colors for the rides are now more cheerful! :) But if you zoom in close you'll see a bit of worn texturing for a touch of realness. I also added planter boxes, palms and lights to the Boardwalk! Oh, and the classic style carousel can now be used too, with those Gen spring ride horses. We don't have Boardwalks in where I live, so hopefully I'm doing this right!

I love this so much, however I think it does have some visual blemishes. With just some cosmetics, you can get this world looking REALLY nice... not that is doesn't look nice already, don't get me wrong this is amazing! But I have some suggestions for you, involving the distant terrain.
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb370/ian_bernard/arcademachines.png
Where I have the magnified, red area shown, I was just needing to say that is does look unfinished, and a tad tacky. I love the idea, but to pull it off you have to really clutter that area, and change the dirt, to something more visually... believable. Make me believe that there is another little neighborhood across that lake. ;D
Where I have the blue area shown, I was wanting to suggest that you make it look like a bunch of houses up until you get to the lighthouse. That would be so awesome! ^_^

Actually in the pictures the sort of gaps you see between the decorative highrises is due to a weird problem. There are really no gaps, but some of the highrises disappear when moving the camera to a certain angle, leaving those gaps between them... It happens in other worlds too, I've noticed the lighthouse of Sunset Valley doing the same thing. :/ That's why the highrises look just slammed in, because I'm trying to figure out how to position them to show up properly. So no worries, it should look much better when it's all finished in a more aesthetically nicer manner. :)

Very nice! You're doing a great job manipulating the objects provided into replicas of other objects - like the carousels. Did you recolor the planters? They look good, especially for this setting. My only comment would be to avoid having the trees coming out of the concrete. I really like the Pets sidewalk terrain, but perhaps you could add squares of dirt or sand for the trees? I'll be looking forward to an update!

I'm really excited about the new pier, which I had to re-do three times because of crashing and then corrupted saves... After a full-on EA rage because of re-doing a day's worth of work, it's now presentable looking again! : P Anyway, you can actually walk on this pier, and hopefully, fish on it too. And you can see the empty lot on it, it's going to be a cafe or a restaurant!
I'd also want to add these lights to go around the fencing of the restaurant lot (not the whole pier), but I'd really like to hear opinions first if it sounds like a good or bad idea since the lights don't have a cord between them, they're just individual lights giving an impression that they are connected and dangling together. I think they look super-romantic, but I'm asking just in case if it would look silly to others!

Whoa, this is shaping up really nicely! I can't wait to see the finished product. :)
As regards the lights, I love the idea and I think they'd look more cohesive when you've finished placing them, so fire ahead!
However ,something that's bothering me (it's been said before) are the decorative high rises on the DT. I just think maybe the deco panoramic trees would look more realistic, but that's just my entirely subjective opinion. :P
Also, those sailboats at the pier: are they effects? Do they drift into the pier? Just trying to protect some sims from being impaled by a phantom sailboat! I love the it, by the way. It looks massive! Perhaps you could put a SHT stage on that big lot, I think some sunset concerts on the pier would be cool.
I love the arcade with all the rides, they are very unique and executed so well, and the little kiosks are brilliant. However, to my eye the lot looks slightly empty. Maybe you could add some dustbins or terrain paint paths or something to jazz it up.
This is going to be one great world Arisuka! :D

Alan_Gast The highrises still are just crammed there randomly, that is by no means the end result! :D I've planned that first I'd remove all of them and then place individually highrises back so that they'd blend better to the distant terrain. Then, I'd cutter the waterfront by them with boats, wharf building and a cruise ship. Before doing that I can of course take pics of how the distant terrain looks with nothing on it but the lighthouse, or with just some trees and the lighthouse.
The pier has two different boats used to decorate it. The bigger ones aren't animated at all, they are just static decorative objects. But the other boats that you can see between the bigger ones are a version of the sailing boat effect already in the game, but this one doesn't sail around, it just tilts slowly in place as if it is actually in water. So no, they won't sail away or run poor sims over! :D The beach BTW already has a big SHT stage, and the other Boardwalk lot of the two, the one with the arcades also has a little stage and the lot is flagged as a low-level performance venue. :)
I added some fan leaf trees and decorative tiles and some trash cans, does it look better now?

I actually tried that, but the edges didn't look very good... :/ The railing that surrounds the pier isn't very tall and I couldn't find any other fence that could fit. I'll look into that though again, to see if I can figure out something else!
I now removed the high rises on the distant terrain across the bay, and replaced them with woods and some little huts. Maybe I could add some streetlights there so that it looks lively during evenings and nights too... The other edges of the world now look pretty much finished otherwise!

Here's three random shots of different residential areas. I think the view from the Victorian lane looks quite historical! Also right across the street from those homes is the edge of the forrest, which creates a nice feel for those witches when we have Supernatural... :giggler: There are 7 victorian homes on that street, and I just added hidden basements, attics and towers so that they can be used for witches. :) The forrest isn't quite done yet, but I'll show pics when it is!

I have to say, I love how your residential areas really look like they flow together in color and size and architecture style so that it looks plausible that they were all built around the same time without them all being the same house with teeny-tiny changes. It makes me so excited to play this world.

This world doesn't require any CC to work. :) The only CC in this world are decorative objects like the sailboats in the pier, and you don't have to download even those since this world will work without any CC.
I will be doing a version with Supernatural features added though, after it has come out. Like with new rabbit holes added and supernatural sims included to the pre-population, etc.
Speaking of the Supernatural EP... In what kind of places/homes would typical werewolves live? I really want this world to have a home for every type of sim... Maybe it would be fun to have a sim living in an apartment in the town but who has to secretly go run in the woods once a full moon! Or a picket fence perfect suburban family with a secret life... but what would be the style of a home for a typical werewolf?

That last sentence automatically made me think of The Vampire Diaries: the Lockwood family is the perfect upper class family. The dad is even the mayor of the town but they're also werewolves. Yeah...I'm secretly a teen fangirl under this rational 26 year old exterior. :anime:

Thanks guys, that's lovely to hear! :) There are now two riverside promenades and a little memorial style plaza. The first promenade looks across the old town center, and the latter goes behind the Victorian homes... The one behind the Victorians was meant to look a little outgrown, to look spooky at night since those Victorians will be homes for spooky sims... The custom sky has randomly really foggy and misty nights, which should add to the eeriness! :giggler: Oh, I wish Supernatural was out already...

It'll have meadows, paths, hidden stuff to discover, a campsite, big waterfall, smaller stream and a pond... a lot of stuff, but it all should be done soon. I'll just have to paint some terrain and add some final foliage. :) Oh, and the area can be seen in the third and fourth overview pics, in the left. Well, at least there's a lot of room for fairies, unicorns, wildlife and werewolves to roam all at the same time without supernatural traffic jams.
Also there's a new private performance venue, which also has band instruments as well as SHT stage, so you can perform both music and SHT stuff.

I like it a lot. I do imagine some of them are not quite finished yet like the diner and the warehouse-y building. They still look rather sparse up front. I do like the way they flow together to create a real town center feel though. I really like the outdoor seating area of the restaurant though! Looks like a great place to spend a Saturday: shopping, catching lunch outside, maybe seeing a show in the evening. And then getting mauled by a werewolf on the way home...er, I mean, safely driving home at night and getting a kiss on your front porch steps.

heaven Yes, many lots are not fully decorated because I have a bit odd way of working... Like, I build multiple lots at the same time, switching between them constantly instead of building lots from start to finish one at a time. Usually only when buildings are just about done I'll take a round of decorating of all new lots.
Too bad there won't be any fear of werewolf mauling or vampire attacks since EA appears to have made the upcoming supernaturals just as useless on that department just like in LN. :faceslap: So we just have to settle for our vampires befriending sims in the back alleys instead of biting them maliciously...
This is a small update again, I tweaked the Main Street further. It now also has a park!
There's a couple of new overview shots too from different points, to show how the trees are now supposed to blend in to the distant terrain. I'll probably have to edit the distant terrain object a bit, since it has that hideous Riverview yellow popping up in parts!
One a side note... I'm starting to feel that those palm trees at the coastal line really don't fit into this world. They do look nice in their own area at the coastal line, but maybe they don't just suit the quite northern feel of this world? I have no idea what other trees I could use in their place though...

Did you know, the palm tree is not native to Florida? At least that's what I was told growing up (being from there). My point is that it's possible someone could have planted them there for the "beachy" feel even if otherwise they look out of place. The way you have them set up by the boardwalk, with the metal protector things, it looks like they were deliberately put there for exactly that purpose. If you keep it to a minimum and keep them organized in exact rows and such, I think it would be fine.

Oh yeah, that's true! Beaches seem to be naturally quite bare, unless they are in truly tropical areas...
I scrolled through pictures of towns and piers around New Hampshire a little bit, since it's pretty much the only place I know of name that reminds this world, and I noticed that all around those towns you could see maples and oaks everywhere, even right at the waterfront... so I tried changing the palms into those! They certainly blend in much better to the scenery, but does it look better...?

My mom lived in Massachusetts when I was growing up, and we would often visit Salem (perfect for Supernatural, huh?), and there was a little boardwalk/arcade place called the Salem Willows. It was called that, because the park area right around the actual pier and beach (not exactly a normal beach, too rocky), there were TONS of Weeping Willows. Maybe a few Willow Trees around the town would look nice? At least around the Victorian Lane. I always felt like they give a very nice old-timey and ethereal feel to Salem.
I absolutely love this world, though! I can't wait for it to be released, though I may have to get the Supernatural version, so I can have a couple werewolves, witches and fairies.

Yes, I'm definitely doing this prepopulated. I'll also try to set all NPC sims to custom sims, because I'm sick of EA pudding faces... Both NPC sims and playable sims are already done, and they all have homes chosen too. The total amount of prepopultation is really big, since all of they will be assigned with jobs so that there is the minimum amount of co-workers on each career so that the game won't start drafting and creating random pudding sims for that... But sure, I can show some of them, and also show where they'll be living. :)
It's gorgeous. Are you planning on adding some fog?
I'm making a customized sky weather pattern for this world, which definitely will have randomly more or less foggy days. Right now the aerial lightning looks quite harsh and bright, but it's just until I'll get around to tweaking the files. :) I'll of course post pics here when I'll get to that.

There are two separate Victorian lanes, one is more eerie and lined with willows (can be seen in earlier pictures) and this other one is less suspicious looking, and more... pretty? You can see some of the brownstone apartment buildings in the first post. There are three LN building shells, which are penthouse apts for more wealthier and glamorous sims. I've updated that area and the industrial lane too since the first post quite a bit though, so I can take some fresh shots of that area. It's a little annoying that the ship has that fugly concrete base for whatever insanely idiotic reason, but the ship still looks so cool.

There are still those other decorative ships, which are free non-EA CC. :) They look almost identical, just without the lights, so it's not a big loss.

Thanks for the answer, I'm really enjoying all the progress you're making :) I have some questions (or suggestions):
Will the houses come with cribs and pet accomodations? And/or cars suitable for the house prizing? If so, will that be described on the lots' description?
Maybe you answered this before, and once I post this I'm going back to drool over the pics, but, would there be a wedding venue? Or churches/chapels/cathedrals suitable for so?
Are there going to be a lot of empty lots? First thing I do when downloading a new world is filling obsessedly the empty lots, as I'm a bit of OCD and I can't stand seeing empty lots everywhere :S weird, I know, sorry
Are you truly going to populate the world? I saw somewhere you said it would be 'heavily populated' or something like that. Let me tell you I absolutely love you. I have many of your sims (mostly the male ones) in game and I can't never decide which one I want for myself because all of them are gorgeous. Slipslop and you make the most appealing hot guys I've seen. If this means there won't be pudding faces, I could die of happiness
Also, I don't know if you want suggestions, but I'll throw them here in any case... What about a train station? Or a bus station? I downloaded one from the Exchange that I have in another world and is quite nice and small (30x20 lot). I am speaking mostly about realism. I love what you did with the pier and the port and such. And I cannot thank you enough for getting rid of the palms. The trees look better.
Maybe a fishermen's tavern by the port? Or a little fishermen's village close to it? Just throwing random ideas. I'm now stuck thinking on those sims you say you'll be populating this world with :lovestruc

Here are answers for MichelleBrujah questions:
Will the houses come with cribs and pet accomodations? And/or cars suitable for the house prizing? If so, will that be described on the lots' description?
Yes, all suburban homes have either separate nurseries or cribs or at least space for them, and all suburban homes have a minimum of two bedrooms. Also all home descriptions list the number of Br and ba, and if it has a garage/car park, warehouses, porches/decks, pools and nurseries etc. Many homes are also ready for pets, or at least have space for them.
No homes have any cars already on them, except the homes of prepopulation sims.
Maybe you answered this before, and once I post this I'm going back to drool over the pics, but, would there be a wedding venue? Or churches/chapels/cathedrals suitable for so?
There are two country clubs with areas ready for weddings & receptions, and other parties. One next to the equestrian centre, and one by the bay. There is also a Victorian manor with an upstairs decorated for weddings, and downstairs with a reception area. There is also going to be a church by the graveyard.
Are there going to be a lot of empty lots? First thing I do when downloading a new world is filling obsessedly the empty lots, as I'm a bit of OCD and I can't stand seeing empty lots everywhere :S weird, I know, sorry
No empty lots. But all lots are bigger in average size than lots in EA worlds, and all lots are of even sizes and there are much more of them than in EA worlds, so you can bulldoze and add your own lots. Many homes are of very similar style, so people who like to build themselves can bulldoze and build away happily! :)
Are you truly going to populate the world?
Yes, no pudding faces. Even the mailmen and repairers will have sculpted faces.
Also, I don't know if you want suggestions, but I'll throw them here in any case... What about a train station? Or a bus station? I downloaded one from the Exchange that I have in another world and is quite nice and small (30x20 lot).
There is an old train station, which is not quite finished so there are no pics of it just yet. There are also subway stations, but I won't be adding bus stations because sims don't ride buses... You can add that yourself if you want though, since the lots are big enough. Also, there are actual animated trains going by in the distance! And hobos living in an abandoned train warehouse. :D
Maybe a fishermen's tavern by the port? Or a little fishermen's village close to it? Just throwing random ideas. I'm now stuck thinking on those sims you say you'll be populating this world with :lovestruc
The building visible on the pier near the houseboats is a dive bar. Along the beach there will be a bit rugged little beach houses. :) I'll show and tell more about those prepopulation sims later, after the building is done!
Here's a couple of pics of the brownstone apartment area, with cobblestones added there too. And a pic of the abandoned train yard area.

May I suggest some grungier painting or perhaps some gravel or some other type of paint under the tracks themselves? I think it would add to the realism especially mixed with dirt to look overgrown. Like some of these:

Here's a couple of sims for this world that I've made recently for the Supernatural version. I haven't taken pics of any other sims, so I'll be doing a big post on sims you'll find around the town after I've finished a couple of lots first.
I can't remember the names of these guys, but the first guy is a badass witch who'll be living at the fishing port with his slinky werewolf accomplice (2nd guy). The witch dude is a person who could go either good or bad route with the magic, so it's up to the player to decide. But his werewolf accomplice is definitely a sneaky creep, who could lure him to evil doings!
The third guy is part of the Circus, but at night he works as a ninja thief. He has high sim fu and logic skills, and he lives with a East European acrobat in separate trailers in the circus grounds.
The final fella may be familiar to some! It's Alexander Goth, who has become a vampire overlord. He lives in an upscale highrise apartment, and works as a scientist. Cassandra also lives in this world, but I won't reveal more on that, you'll have to discover the rest yourself. ;) I managed to figure out a way to maintain their family tree with the aid of Twallan's mods, so they will actually have the Goth family tree visible!

I just went through all your post and the only thing I can say is: WOW.
I cant imagine the amount of time and effort you put in to ths world. I think the finished product will be amazing.
I loved the circus, and those victorian lanes look awesome, and for me to say that is kind of amazing since I'm not that fond of that victorian houses, but yours look amazing.
I was a tiny bit dissapointed to see those palm trees go, since I'm really fond of them, but I also think that those new ones look great and blend with the rest of the world.
Anyway, I'll keep an eye on this trend, and I hope you'll finish it soon, cause I too want to play it and even more than just play in it: explore it.
Congrats on your lovely work!

Ari, one thing I notice is that the sims you showcased all seem to be quite similar, especially in regards to face shape and lip shape. I know that it is a small sampling of sims so I'm not "concerned", just pointing it out.
Also, I absolutely love the suburban homes! I think the second one has got to be my favorite.
Arisuka
29th Jun 2012, 5:18 PM
heaven Yes, that would be because I've made well over a hundred sims for this world, so to make a huge batch of sims like that requires unfortunately a very conveyor belt kind of working touch, making A LOT of sims during a same sitting. It's not easy to make balanced, sculpted faces in TS3 with basic settings, so naturally I have developed a certain "recipe" in order to make this many sims... I'm not a miracle worker who has eternal amounts of time to focus on every sim and building. :/
But since there are so many sims in this world who have been made over a long period of time, you won't really notice the likeness between a couple of individuals who have been made during same sitting, who'll be living in the other sides of the world. Sure it's noticeable when they all have the same expression and lined up in rows, but it really shouldn't be noticeable when actually playing and seeing them around the town among the other 80 to 90 sims. :)

Hello!
Oh yeah, I know we can edit them in the game, I just feel, I don't know how to explain this: I dont mind changing things that EA made on the worlds, but when it comes to worlds made by fans and artist I don't know, cause they made them the way they think look best. I don't know if that makes much sense haha, but still I do like the trees instead of the palms.
As for the new update, well I have to say I really like the library cause it's BIG. And thats good, for me they are supposed to be big and not only little rooms with a couple of books ¬¬.
The new trees in the main street I like, though I think something green-er? would look nice, to make some kind of a contrast with the street and the buildings wich are on warm colors and this new trees are still a bit yellow, but overall I think this look better than the previous.

I was afraid that others wouldn't like the fact that it's so big! But yeah, libraries are supposed to be filled with long corridors and piles books, and not just a few lonely shelves like in many EA libraries. This one has even some secret things to discover... :D Big old libraries are fun places to explore!
The trees do have more of a mustard-y green hue now, which matches those bushes, but could also be an overkill of that tone... There is one other tree type that could be tried, it's very similar to the current ones but greener and slightly taller. I'll try those after a bit of summer vacationing. :)

I do like those trees there though I can see the point about them being too "matchy" with the bushes. I definitely look forward to exploring that library!!! Also, if you want the insides to show, I think there is a setting "enable object hiding" or something like that. If you switch it, the stuff should show through the windows.

I'm not quite understanding why 5 markings as unhelpful of the previous post...? I shouldn't make a separate Supernatural version?
Anyway, (heaven! ) here's a crapton of new pics.
-new type of trees in the town center, maples! They certainly fit the New Hampshire-ish look. Also the town center has new traffic lights, to fit the lamp posts and old town look.
-the whole world now has street lights, sewer and road crates and fire hydrants
-the Circus area has been given some details to liven it up a bit
-the low-class fishing port area has been landscaped
-Then in the last two pictures, you can see the animated trains coming in. From the first first pic you can see that it moves a long way, straight across the picture and further. They make the whistle sound too, but I haven't tested yet if it can be heard from so far away. If not, I could move them closer?

It's a Circus, and it works as a Showtime performance venue, flagged as a 'Big show venue'. I'll post pics of the insides once I'll get to play testing, because it can't be seen properly in build mode... :/
Here's a church, which is decorated ready for weddings. Maybe it needs a tent or something next to it for wedding parties? The lot is separate from the cemetery, which is next to the church lot. It really depends on each player's game options and computer specs how many sims will be drawn by the story progression to live in the homes. But if you mean how many sims will be living as the pre-population, the number is roughly something around 70-80. And on top of that, there will be a pool of premade NPC sims (maids, mixologists, repairmen etc) which consists of around 40-50 sims. That number of playable sims shouldn't cause problems, even though it may sound like a lot. :) There are worlds out there with well over double that amount, so it should work fine even for those with nearly low-end computers.
And oh, I'm estimating that atleast a bit over 1/3 of all homes will be empty, ready for the player's own households. That's quite a lot, considering that there are much more residential lots than in EA worlds. So there's a lot to choose from!

dolldrms1 Oh yeaaaah, I get it now! I worded it oddly... I meant that I'd first upload this world as it is, then after Supernatural has come out, I'd upload an alternative new updated version with Supernatural's features added in. So that those who like Supernaturals can really immerse into that with the SN version, but those who don't like that stuff could download the earlier version without SN stuff.
I think during the following days I'll next start uploading lots from this world. (Since 5 residential and 5 commercial example lots are required in the guidelines to show from the world) So it might get a little quiet for a while, but it's just because I'm busy uploading and doing first playtestings to weed out any possible obvious problems. :)

carlito Yes, this world has A LOT more lots than EA worlds, I'd say that twice as many residential lots. And all of the residential lots have homes on them, so no empty lots either. But those who prefer to build/add lots of their own can really just bulldoze homes away since there are so many homes of same styles and the lot sizes are slightly bigger than in EA worlds. :) Also all homes (except apartments) have multiple bedrooms. The affordable homes have two to three, and the rest have three to four (and some have five).
So I really wanted this world to be more flexible than EA worlds, so that this would work for many types of preferences of different types of simmers!

Nice I'd like to give this a try at some point, is there a beta for it or are you still finishing it up? Also do you have working apartments in this world? Good job so far on this one, I know how much work it takes to build these :).

carlito I'm currently preparing this for beta version. I'll be uploading at least those 10 required lots first, and doing first rounds of play testing at the same time. This might take a while, since uploading process might get slow or fast, it's hard to predict. After that, I'll be putting the first beta version up on this thread. :)
There are Late Night apartments in this world! In the previous pages you can see of the high brownstone apartment area.

I'm not sure that you have to upload 10 individual lots for the world to meet the guidelines. I think you just have to show 5 of each in the comments of the thread (look at armiel's Charlton (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=455150)) showing each lot as you would for an upload. If I'm right, it might save you a little time as uploading 10 lots takes awhile!

heaven I know, but I rather upload them and then add links in the world upload, because like that you can see them in much more detail. Also there are many lots that will be useful in other worlds too (like the circus for example) so they will be good to have available for download outside this world.
Uploading that many lots doesn't actually delay finishing the world, because I need to play test a big amount of lots anyway to see that they function properly. This is because there are much more lots than in EA worlds, so if there are many lots that routing problems, the impact of cumulative lag would be bigger. Having this many lots comes with a price, which is the necessity of a very thorough play testing, but remember that also means a more balanced, highly functioning end result! :)

MrsNervousSubject Aww, I'm really glad to hear that! Before setting up this CFF thread I thought that not many would find this type of old-ish town style theme appealing.
I wouldn't worry about how this will run, if you have a decent, normal computer. I myself don't have a gaming PC or ridiculous amounts of RAM (I got 6gb), and still this world seems to run as nicely as EA worlds, even though this is much bigger in most aspects. And there are no weird EA style routing screw-ups either!
Yes, anyone willing can take part in play testing! :) Once the time comes, I'll just putting the file up in this thread, and it should be easy for anyone to do a bit of testing since there isn't any obligatory CC. But there's still stuff to do before we'll get to that, but it shouldn't be too long.

Okay this pic heavy post is to shamelessly show off one thing... fog! :D
I used weather files from simsample's Jericho, and the fast changing weather from bright, sunny days to thick foggy ones seem to fit this world too very nicely! The weather will not be included in the actual world, but externally as a package file so if you don't like the moody skies, you can have the regular EA base game skies as the default state.
And then there's two new lots to visit in the woods. All the pics are quite dark now, because I took them during early evenings...

You know I'm waiting for a world like this since a lot of months. You see every EA Worlds are completely lame for me, why ? Because if you have all the ep's none of this world will combine ALL the newest things and this is sooo stupid... For example they made a cocktail system and nightclub in Late Night, wooaoooow ! Amazing ! But in the last EP these new things don't appear in Starlight Shore, If you want them you have to add these manually, except that the EA worlds are little and there is few empty lot on them.
So I'm really enthusiastic about your world and I can't wait for the release ! Good luck ! Your work is really amazing !

heaven Covered bridges are very cool aren't they, and practical too when Seasons will come along! Also I actually think that I saw a big covered road bridge in this (http://www.thesims3.com/content/global/images/Hosting/moonlight/MF_IMG1.jpg) Supernatural screenshot from Moonlight falls (in top left)... It looks very promising, and luckily there's a place where it could fit in too, right by the abandoned creepy mill from Pets!
Oh and there is a campsite in the middle of the woods between the two waterfall lots, where the teens can go camping ominously during full moon... :giggler:
Ranger34 You are right, it's very surprising that EA worlds never seem to have enough lots for essential content from other EPs. It wouldn't even be hard for EA to design worlds with well over 10 empty lots on the edges of town centre areas! It's unbelievable that only so late as in Pets they included at least a few empty lots in town center... and those still aren't enough to fit in content from all EPs!

I don't have a very powerful computer (she's 5-6 years old) and she can run the sims, but I don't think she will be able to run the town with weather, anyway I always see fog due to the low graphics :( But I do think this town looks quite interesting with all that fog in the mountains and the bridge. Perfect for evening walks and all of a sudden it gets dark on the way home haha.

Okay a little strategy change... I'll get a job soon, so my time for simming will be cut down a lot. So in order to get this world done and out despite real life meddling in, I thought a new approach.
I'll first take just pics and files for the ten example lots for upload, then straight after that I'll put a BETA version of the world here for any willing testers. So while BETA testing is going on, I'll be uploading those ten lots, instead of uploading them before releasing a BETA version.
This would mean that I'd need at least some of the testers to really have proper, in-depth game play sessions, instead of quick ones... Like really running around the world's nature areas, and visiting as many community lots as possible and testing community lot functions.
If I'd get at least one or two people who'd be willing to really dwell into the world, it would mean that I could focus on finishing the remaining lots, terrain stuff and technical things, so that this world would be finished soon! :)

I'm a latecomer to your wonderful town but I would be honored to beta test it for you. From reading this thread and all your pictures I kept getting more and more excited. I loved Riverview but it was hard to impossible to add all the new venues from the expansion packs. Here you have to wonderful quaint downtown area that I loved, the piers I have fallen in love with from LP and even the ship from BB (which was the reason I got that world, talk about crazy). The pictures of the fog look amazing! And to not have to go through all the houses to make sure they have enough room for family additions (swoon)! I think I was lucky to not see this thread earlier because my poor mind would have been on overload waiting trying to determine which I NEEDED sooner, your world or Supernatural.
I guess I should stop babbling and just say I'm in awe of your talent. Now for the required silly question, I'm guessing your beach will have tides since you seem to be so thorough but I just had to ask. It is a small pet peeve of mine.

Alawren I'm glad to hear such excitement! The beaches do have tides, but none of the visual effects just don't appear in the build mode, which is why they don't show in the previous screenshots. The beach, pier and boardwalk also have seagulls, pigeons, water buoys, minor pet spawners (turtles and parrots) and fish spawners. I'll take some pics in the play mode around the beach, and there's also some other stuff there too that needs to be shown... :giggler:

A quick status report!
I hit some persistent routing problems while testing... for example, around 10 homes have stairs that don't work for some reason (mostly basement stairs of Victorian homes), so I'm trying to fix those.
Also there are some problematic doors on community lots, and for some reason, dancing on dance floors doesn't work, even though there is music playing from the LN speakers.
All of these problems came out of the blue for me, but luckily they are all something that can be fixed, so this far there are no significant problems and by the look of things, the BETA version should be highly functional once I've fixed these problems. :) I'll post some new pics soon, particularly of the beach!

23rd Jul 2012, 3:56 PM
Two questions:
1) The basement stairs that don't work: are they stairs that go down to the ground level from foundation and then from there go straight into the basement so they look like one staircase? EA lets you do this with no cheats so you think it works fine. Then you try to play and get route fail. I had the same thing with my Charmed Manor. Unless you demolish the foundation and start over, there seems to be no way to fix it. There's a way to not demolish the whole house and do it but it's a right pain in the ass and takes a lot of fiddling.
2) If you click the actual speakers, does the dance option come up? I've noticed this with one of my sims when she goes out at night. The dance floors don't have the option but if I click the speakers themselves, she goes to the dance floor and starts dancing. It's weird but I think it might be a bug.

1) The first problem I was luckily familiar with before, so I put separate steps going through foundation, then one tile landing, then stairs to the basement. But accidentally I placed the first steps wrong so that it blocked the landing...
2) Yes, I get the dance option from the speakers, and sims will walk up to the speaker and start dancing near it, instead of the dance floor. When I click the dance floor, it says "You cannot dance when there is no music playing!"
Maybe I could to place the speakers closer to the dance floor area, and then remove the dance floors altogether. So the sims would dance on that area, even without the dance floor object.

That is why I hate basements. Just lemme do it the CFE way so I don't get the multiple issues and errors that you do with the WA tool. You have more patience than I do!
This game is temperamental.
Arisuka
24th Jul 2012, 4:38 PM
heaven Absolutely, when making basements either WA or CFE way, there always seems to come up different set of issues... Like I just noticed that some of the CFE basements I had done show no ceiling when looking up. No matter how much flattening, smoothing and fiddling I did, it just doesn't show. :faceslap:
The stairs now work on WA basements, and luckily those couple CFE basements are in suburban homes and are meant just for laundry, band or gym stuff, not for looking upwards... So that's one problem sorted out!

heaven I got some busyness going on in my life, but I'm trying to keep pushing this towards the BETA release whenever I can. It really shouldn't be long now! The world functions very stable now, and there's only two-three lots in need of finishing touches. So at this rate, the BETA version is going to be pretty much the finished version! I know this meant that the BETA version's release keeps getting later and later, but on the other hand, the world can be released very soon after the BETA version! :)
I'll post a whole bunch of new pics tonight or tomorrow! I'm currently editing the distant terrain object to fit the coloring of the world, so right after that is finished I'll post pics of that and around other finished areas.

I rarely ever come to the creator feedback forum but I am so glad I did. Brookwoods looks amazing. You really know how to use atmosphere. The boardwalk and the pier with the ships and boats and boat houses look perfect! As I was looking at your pictures I couldn't help imagining stories for my sims. I love the Victorian neighborhood and the promenade. The circus area looks like it has lots of potential. And I can't wait to see more of the forest. My only problem is I don't have SHT. But this world is tempting me to buy it, especially since this is the town I've been waiting for but didn't know it.

ViolettaVie You don't absolutely need to have SHT for this world, although most of the windows in the town area are from SHT. But you can easily change them into something else. :) It's up to you!
I'm still being a party-pooper with all this delaying... I started to re-do the forrest landscape a bit, and adding fir trees for a more realistic forresty feel and variety.
-The distant terrain object is now done though
-the LN wall speakers are now positioned so that sims can dance in designated places without the bugged dance floor object.
- I also did a whole lot of terrain painting on lots, to make them look more lively.
-the yacht club area is coming together!
-all park benches are now on lots (before I used world object benches, which caused sims to prefer them and ignoring benches on lots, causing them to run from the other side of the world just to read a book on a park bench)
These pics aren't much, but here's two new pics of the riverside walk which goes through the back of the Victorian residential area. Maybe it could use more roses? It looks quite romantic during day time, but nicely eerie during cloudy, foggy evenings. :giggler:

Looks really good. What are the required Expansion and Stuff packs for this town to work? I'm asking because I only have World Adventures, Ambitions, Late night, Generations, High-end loft stuff, Fast Lane, Outdoor living, and Town Life. And a lot of the new worlds require Pets or Showtime so I am unable to run them.
Arisuka
5th Aug 2012, 11:32 AM
Force219 Well, it depends on whether you do or don't mind some items missing here and there. The world does use items from all EPs, but you can run the world fine without some of them. I'd say that without WA, Showtime, Ambitions or Pets the world is perfectly playable, though you will see items missing on lots. There are a lot of windows used from Pets and Showtime, so your game would replace them with something from the Base game.
Oh, and no stuff packs are required! But Riverview is required, for the distant terrain object to show up.
And also no CC is required to play the world either. There are a lot of decorative boats, but those are totally optional and not having them should not affect playability at all. :)
This is freaking awesome! I agree that it will be beautiful in every season, and sims will be able to swim in the river. Great work! :lovestruc
We'll have to see how the swimming in water will be executed technically, I'm very curious about that. But definitely I'd also want to see sims able to swim in the rivers, in addition to the sea! :giggler:

" I looked into this a bit further for you. Sims will be able to swim on a body of water even if it has unroutable paint laid down beneath the water. There's a different paint type that's used around the edges of the world to block the camera from going too far - Sims won't be able to swim beyond that point (or wherever that paint is laid down). "
I also remember reading that you can swim in any open body of water but ponds. :)

With all this load of information on the two new upcoming EPs, I've been thinking a lot about how Brookwoods will have the new features added in... me manually editing the world each time and uploading the whole thing separately three times is out of the question, there is just no way I'd be able to do that. I would want to, but it's just not possible.
So instead I thought an alternative way! How about instead of uploading three separate versions of the entire world, I would just upload certain key lots with the new features added in, with information on the upload which Brookwoods lot address it is meant to be put in. This way would be nicer too in a way that you wouldn't have to start legacies over, you could just renew easily the town with new lots and keep going! :)
There are already lots made with Supernatural (victorian homes with basements, huge forrest which includes four lots, gypsy camp for fortune tellers...) and Seasons (fair ground next to Circus, boarwalk fair, multiple big parks, a huge beach with to beach lots) in mind, so it would be so easy just to change lots yourself into updated ones.
How does that sound? :report:
heaven
6th Aug 2012, 2:47 PM
Arisuka, I think that sounds great. Not only would it help keep a normal game going (which I have a hard enough time with as it is) but introducing new lots would make sense historically since, as time goes by, new things are bound to happen and change in town. Also, it lets us get our hands on the game sooner. The idea of waiting until after Seasons comes out makes me want to cry. So yes, yes please just update with new stuff!
Only thing I might change myself once I get it and Seasons, are a lot of the residential homes. With that seasonal lot marker coming, it would be fantastic to work holiday/seasonal items on to the lot so it would work automatically. My neighbors will NOT keep their Snow Flake day decorations until Leisure Day!
Arisuka
6th Aug 2012, 4:02 PM
heaven lol that is true, but luckily by default all lots will have just one appearance, unless a player goes on a decorative spree around the hood with the new seasonal decorative tool! Also this seasonal lot marker option makes me really glad that all suburban homes around the town have porches where to put all those pumpkins and other decor...
And oh, I just realized all the possibilities how to decorate the old town centre main street walk for Winter! The statue in the middle could be switched to a big christmas tree, and the park in the end of the street would of course have a ice skating rink...
And the new stalls that will come with seasons include a food stall, which offers take-away coffee and a big variety of food, also with seasonally changing items like pies! So this means that the already existing cafe, restaurant and coffeehouse style venues around this town will be able to actually serve food and drinks with a proper NPC salesperson! Finally sims will be able to crab a coffee with their friends, eat out with a date or have ice-cream and junkfood at the boardwalk...oh can't wait to have this EP... It's going to be so awesome! :bunny:

So instead I thought an alternative way! How about instead of uploading three separate versions of the entire world, I would just upload certain key lots with the new features added in, with information on the upload which Brookwoods lot address it is meant to be put in. This way would be nicer too in a way that you wouldn't have to start legacies over, you could just renew easily the town with new lots and keep going! :)
That's a great idea, the only problem I can forsee with this is if EA release nice neighbourhood objects (trees, etc) with future EPs that you just have to have in your world! In that case you probably wouldn't be able to resist putting it back into CAW and adding the new items. :)

simsample Thank goodness I haven't seen any new, cool neighborhood objects in the trailers and pictures so far... But I will definitely upload this world only as one version, because I have three other (though much smaller) worlds too waiting to be finished. But I won't get into those before this big-ass world is done and dusted!
And good news, the forrest area which I've been struggling with is finally starting to look forrest-y! BTW those rock formations are actually a waterfall and a stream, the effects just don't show in build mode.
It's not quite there yet, but with a proper terrain paint, more details and more strategically placed trees it should come together very soon now.

I kinda am, unintentionally... :faceslap: It's just because I keep going back and forth with random stuff very easily, like the damn forest which I've now re-done like 5 times. I tend to get stuck... But darn it, this time will be final because I really want this world just done and out so that I can move on to other projects! Oh the finish line is so close now...

Okay a little status report again! I'm still struggling to finish the forest. It just doesn't seem to come together right! Here where I live (Finland), we really don't have oaks or elms in wilderness at all, only huge fir tree woods everywhere... so a look this different is quite hard for me to create. :/
Also there is a new technical hiccup. It seems the world files somehow still has some Riverview sims hidden. This might be a potential problem... I've tried to find a command in Twallan's Mastercontroller mod which would delete all sims in a world, but haven't found a way to do that. I know that you can do that with Awesome mod, but then you couldn't open the saved world file without Awesome mod any longer...?

MasterControllers option to delete all sims is only availible if you have an active family and play with it, becasue you have to do it from the Town Hall, not just loading it as with Awesome mod.
I think you can use Awesome mod, if you "properly" unstall it before sharing the save-file, to do that simply type "uninstall" in cheat bar and it will remove every interaction it do to the town or sims.
Not sure though if it will do a "global" uninstall as i think you can use the command even before loading a save, so if you use Awsome mod for you normal playing you might wanto backup all your saves first.

Thought I would check status since I had not been here in a while. I understand what you mean by sims embedded in those Riverview files. I had a remake of Riverview done by Locatus and had added about 3 Riverview families when I started playing it. It didn't take long for every Riverview sim to make an appearance in the world, including doubles of the RV sims I had put into play. I honestly didn't end up considering it a drawback, LOL. It was kind of nice having them all show up.
Anyway, I don't know if they can be removed. Twallan is amazingly helpful to creators, so he may be able to tell you if it can be done and how to go about doing it. There is also a way to safely remove Awesomemod, if using it would be your preference. Here is a link to a post by Custom Sims3 Regina with the instructions: http://customsims3.com/forums/thread-169.html I know it's from 2011 but afaik, it still holds true.

Hi guys! It's been quite a while, because my life has changed a lot recently. I got a great new job and a lot of studying keeping me busy around the clock. Also, I've really lost interest in simming completely for now... I've always felt underwhelmed by TS3, EP after EP it just feels like the game makers are getting more sloppier and more uninspired! The frustration has just kept growing all this time, and now I'm just so totally fed up with their sucky work.
I'd really want to finish this world though, so I will buy Supernatural (and Seasons when it comes out later) and try to get some inspiration going.

Can we have a WIP soon then? Pretty please? I don't know if my poor little heart can wait much longer for this beauty!

Unfortunately, Ari has not posted here since September. I know how much we all want this world but please don't push the thread back to the top of CFF to ask if or when the world will be finished. If Arisuka decides to continue work, she can bring the thread back to life. Otherwise, please no more comments unless they are from her.

This project kind of became a dead end... :/ I made many of the lots unnecessarily big, which among other stuff caused lag, lag and more lag. But the good news is that I've been working on three other worlds since then, which are done quite soon. They are edits of EA worlds (Appaloosa Plains, China and Moonlight falls). The Moonlight remake is very similar to this world I used to work on, except much better since I learned from past mistakes...
I had been planning on waiting until the Island EP comes out before releasing the Moonlight remake, since it would be perfect for a functional port area. But I could release a version with just a fake pier (which it right now has) before that?
And after Uni comes out, I already have a plan mapped out how to turn it into a regular world with altered layout and lots added in from these other worlds I'm working on. So there are a whole bunch of nice, well functioning worlds coming up! :)
I'll delete this thread soon. If you guys want the remade Moonlight world before Island EP release, let me know here and after that I'll remove this thread.
Here's some pics of the Moonlight remake:

I'm really sad about the end of Brookwoods. The Moonlight Falls remake looks pretty good but (and it may just be me) at the moment it lacks the charm that Brookwoods had. I suppose the lag is so bad that there's no way to fix it? And/or it wouldn't be something you'd be interested in sharing as is. I'll cry a little and then eventually move on I guess.

heaven I do have the files, so I can throw them here if you really would like to have that world. :) It is laggy, there are unfinished areas and the routing isn't exactly perfect... but it is functional. I'll put the world up here to download for anyone who'd like to give it a go, but any just keep in mind that it's not all finished and there'll be some lag.

I'll snuggle you forever and give you cookies. :D
I know how you feel though. Sometimes you just get to point where you're not happy with what you have and the effort to fix it is more than you're willing because you just don't have the love and interest in the project anymore. Happened to my Riverview project and I finally worked up the nerve to start a brand new, fresh from scratch, my own terrain project that I love a lot more.

Exactly that! :/ Trying to make a TS3 world on your own is just draining. EA has teams to share the whole work load... and they are motivated by the fact that it's their job.
I just opened the world in CAW and it's actually looking fine, if you don't mind a couple of lots with unfinished interiors and/or yards. The routing looks good enough, but I added a bit more unroutable paint to make sure there won't be any hangups.
Here's the couple of CC items used. (http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/42929_130219233142Brookwoods_CC.rar)

It's a old Japanese town! :anime: Not a vacation world, it's fully playable.

The Appaloosa edit has just couple of major improvements. Most of all houses and farms are now on bigger lots, the downtown has five new community lots and the terrain is sculpted so that the surrounding high plains are now accessible (on horseback too). So it's not a drastic makeover, just improvement of what it already had. :) At this rate it'll be uploaded first.
