View Full Version : Question about Sims3Pack files that have been converted to .package files

I used Delphy's tool, and all of the sims3packs became packages just fine, but there are a few new .package files that just show up as random numbers and letters. ( IE: 0x0e908990bdd9f68d85e7237003597236.package)

Are these safe to use in my game, or do they belong somewhere other than my mods folder? I don't know what they were before that.

I seem to recall that it historically has had trouble giving a package the proper name under certain conditions. (Usually when a sims 3 pack has more than one item in it.)

I'm not sure if the Dashboard will give you any clue about what they are, but it can't hurt to check them with it. If it doesn't work you could try this:

Back up your save.
Now remove the "alphabet soup" and clear the caches.
Start your game.
Go through -everything- and look for something missing. Check patterns, clothing, makeup, and even the sims in CAS and in the sim bin. Go through the catalog in buy and in build as well.
If you notice missing items, they are part of the alphabet soup. You can put them in one at a time and see what has turned up if you really want to name them. It is safe to change the name as long as it keeps the .package at the end. (Or you can just dump everything back into the Mods folder if you're feeling lazy.)
If you hadn't noticed anything missing, or if you don't notice anything turning up when you put it back in to name it, I would take it back out and keep it somewhere in case it was a necessary but invisible part of something else.

I'm starting to believe that maybe they were part of the Lots that were converted.... because they just don't show up, or anything that came with it. Could that be a possibility too? That makes sense to me, because I don't see why only houses and lots that didn't work.

Or is that a different problem?

That would make sense, especially if you put them all in Mods/Packages. Lots need to go in the Library folder if you want to install them as packages - though you still have to work out which one is the right package file. For most things you can probably open them in S3PE and look at the previews of the _DDS (texture) resources to see what they are - and if they have no textures, they're not objects, CAS content, or patterns. So they could be lots :p .

One example of a lot I have is called the Aisling, and theres a package file that says theaisling.package file, so i put that in the Library folder? and then go through the alphabet soup packages after that and try to pin point what they are?

If you know that The Aisling is a lot, then yes, drop that in Library (probably - this is theoretical :p ).

okay i will try that. when I can however, cause i have a bigger problem now.

all of my saves are in the Saves folder, but when I start my game, it says I have no saves and says I need to start a new game and none of my package files or sims3packs are in the game. I've tried taking the folder out and putting it back in and a few other things, but nothing is working.

I noticed that my current game, LosAngeles.sims3 in bridgeport has an extra .package file in it's file, while my other game Sheiße.sims3 in bridgeport doesn't. Does that possibly have anything to do with anything?

Naw, that extra package have proberly nothing to do with it, i have saves that have 2-4 extra package files, some of them are because i have edited the vacation towns, so it can be that one get one if editing the town.
Are you sure you are looking in the same directory as game have for it's files, game use/save everything in (my) documents folder (Electronic Arts/The Sims 3) , where that resides is diffrent from which windows version you have.

For macs, you have to go through the user file - documents- EA - then you're in. But yes, I'm sure I"m looking in the right spot. Also, all of the settings have snapped back to default. My entire game, like reset. Theres no installed content through my launcher anymore, or even downloads. No package files are in game, skins, hair, clothes, objects, anything. I don't know what happened, but i'm really upset. I was working on a story and now everything is gone, iugytrseawdsgyhukjbgfdresdfc.

what happened iaurhgaireughaergiuahrgaiurehgeriughariughaeriughaeriughareiuhgareiu

I started a new game since the other ones weren't showing up, and the new game is saved, but it's no where to be found in the documents. I even put my game that wasn't showing up in the CurrentGame.sims3 file, and it's still showing the one that can't be found. I'll post screenshots of the file, and can someone tell me if it looks wrong?

Hmmm..
One thing i see is, you have namned the Mods folder wrong there's 3 sss and in there you have one called Mods, game won't "see" that one, it only check for mods folder in the main path.
Also i see one folder called Documents but you have all stuff in the one called Tiffanyyyy,
maybe this might be how it's suppoce to be in Mac, i have no clue about that as i'm not very familiar with it.

If you use Mac you might get better help here:

You can link to this thread, so you don't have to explain the whole issue again, or ask a mod/admin to move it for you.

"Sheiße.sims3"? Really? ;)

There is another Documents -> The Sims 3 folder somewhere, which your game is now using instead of the old one, goodness knows why. I would suggest that the easiest way to find it will be to search your hard drive for the name of your new save.

hahaha, it's so I can sort out my games ;)

but my computer can't find anything under the name of the saved game, which is "jytf". It's like it literally doesn't exist. I'm so confused, how does it know what to do? :wtf:

I'd say that if you call your games shit it is shit you'll get...
But seriously, from what I can see in your last screenshot, I can only assume that you have quite a messy install and set-up (and I think others have commented something similar along these lines in all your hundreds of similar posts here and elswhere).
Why, for example, do you call your Mods folder Modsss and have another Mods folder inside Packages. And is your Electronic Arts folder really in the default location? Have you checked whether, thanks to your unconventional naming habits, the game might have created another Electronic Arts folder somewhere else, preferably in a tiffanay-safe environment like your Program files and that this is where your new save went? This would at least explain why Search came up empty-handed as it does not look into the Packages of Programs by default.

Edit: And BTW Scheiße is written with a Sch.

The folder's name is Modsss because I had a few others on my desktop, splitting the .package files in there because I thought it could've been a bad CC problem and there's a Mods folder in the Modsss folder for game mods, like walk don't run, and the pregnancy lengths and things like that.

& if that is the case, what am I supposed to do if I or my computer can't find the file? Re-install the latest EP? Cause I don't have the majority of my CDs or Codes thanks to my mom losing the majority of my CD and DVDs when we moved.

Oh, and it also keeps saying that there's no disc in there, and the CD just comes out whenever, also. I can't help but feel like my computer is just flat out resisting this game.

Well I just did an uninstall of Showtimes and re-installed it, and it solved the problem. I still don't know what went so horribly wrong, but now I know what to do next time. Thanks for all your help, sorry for being a pain in the ass. I'm just helpless ,-,

I find it less confusing to call game mods "Hacks". That would cut down on the number of "Mods" folders lying around, as well as not confusing people who are looking at screenshots. ;)

I'm glad it's sorted out now. Have fun playing.
