View Full Version : Deleting a sub-neighborhood that shipped with an EP - safe or a big no-no?

Let's just say that I don't want to play Nightlife's Downtown anymore, but I still want to play my Pleasantview. Or, that I accidentaly clicked on "Associate default shopping district (Bluewater Village) to Pleasantview"?

Will anything happen with my neighborhood? I'm asking because I know there are several graves in Downtown (Tricou family). And deleting graves is a big no-no (one of the biggest). Should I move graves to a cementery in Pleasantview first, or should I carry on anyway?

Also, is it okay to delete Vacation Destinations? Since the family button's disabled, I'm guessing there are no graves there, and therefore it's safe to delete. Just guessing here, please confirm it.

If you make sure you move all the graves, it'll be fine. Just check and double-check that you got all the graves. You will still have all the sims generated by the neighborhood, though. I understand (I have never tried it) that the way to get all the premade students into the same university is to add all the university subhoods and delete two. You will then be unable to delete the last one, because it's full of young adults who can't live anywhere else.

If you have a backup from before this happened, depending on how long it's been, it might be simpler to restore it.

Yes, I would recommend that you move the graves to a cemetery in Pleasantview first. Be sure to edit and save the new lot to ensure that the graves were moved before removing the Downtown.

Yes, I believe that it is safe to remove an unwanted subhood, if the game gives you that option. However, all of the additional sims which were added by the subhood will still be in your game and some of those sims will be unavailable without the appropriate type of subhood.

Just because the game allows you to do so doesn't mean it's safe, remember? They allow us to delete tombstones, delete Sims in the family bin, and bin an occupied house. None of these are safe. (And even Prima Guide suggested deleting the tombstones if we want to get rid of the ghosts!)

Yes, I remember. And just because the game allows you to do something, that doesn't make it unsafe, either. I believe that it is safe to remove an unwanted subhood without tombstones, if the game gives you that option.

However, I agree with Peni's assessment that restoring form a recent backup is the best option. In fact, I would suggest that it is always wise to backup your game before attaching a subhood. We've seen occasional glitches when attaching subhoods.

Well, I don't want to remove any subhood. I just ask if it is save to do so, so I can refer to that in future, if I, for some unknown reason, would want to remove a subhood.

So basically, the most safest method of removing a subhood is restoring a backup, but if you move ALL the graves from it that's also safe.

Thanks!

MATY got a mod that allows you to delete tombstones without the corruption it causes without MATY's mod (nounlinkondelete was the mod if I am right). If you got that mod, and then you want to delete Nightlife's Downtown, am I right that it will be safe to delete the Downtown?

I use Tarlia's Megahood, but didn't want all the extra districts separate, so I moved all sims & graveyards to the main hood and deleted all the subhoods except Downtown and I've had no problems. Just make sure you have completely removed all sims and urns/gravestones and you'll be fine.

Even if you have that mod, it's still not safe to intentionally delete the tombstones. I think it's just in case the tombstones disappear or are deleted by accident. Just don't delete them on purpose.
