You don't need to get rid of all cc, just the cc that is causing the problem. If it is package cc (the kind you install by putting it into a folder in Mods/Packages) you can use the 50/50 method to track down the one that is a problem. If it is sims3pack, it's probably easier to delete the dccache and dcbackup, then reinstall 4 sims3packs and test. If it works, save the dccache (and backup if you will want it) and install 4 more. Continue like this until it stops working. Then delete that dccache and backup and try with just 2 of the items you just installed. If they work, try the third one. If that works, the 4th is probably bad, but you can put it in to test anyway in case it was a one-time glitch. The key is to keep backing up copies of the working dccache and dcbackup folders so that you can be sure that it really is uninstalling the cc you are testing without having to install everything all over again when you get to the batch with a problem. 4 is a good number to work with, because when you hit the problem you only have to do a binary test three times (or twice if you don't care about confirming that the file is bad.)

It's likely Nraas's story progression mod if you have it. It crashed my game to desktop until I pulled it. He hasn't updated it for Showtime yet.
