Did you ever find yourself waxing nostalgic for those TS2 careers? Now you can indulge in a little retro-simming! Presenting the Oceanography Career from TS2 converted for TS3!

The Oceanography Career is one of five careers which were added to the Sims 2 in the FreeTime expansion pack.

UPDATES:

12/07/2012 - Added German Translation (Danke sehr, Gefion!)

11/17/2012 - Added a separate career file with career outfits which do NOT require any EPs to show in game. All career outfits are created with Base Game components. Includes Spanish translation.

11/16/2012 - Added Spanish Translation (Thanks gamer1616!)

As with any custom career, you'll need to have Twallan's Base Careers Mod installed in order for it to work.

Patch Compatibility - This career was made with patch 1.38-1.39, and appears to run properly on patch 1.42.

Currently, the language is in English only, but I'm willing to take a crack at including other language files, so I've included a file for translators to use. Download the mflaha55_Oceanography_EnglishStrings_FOR TRANSLATORS ONLY.zip file, translate the text into your language, return the file to me and I'll integrate it into the career file and re-upload. You can attach your .zip or .rar file to the Comments in this thread.

Details, Details! The Oceanography Career is a ten level career originally found in TS2. For this TS3 conversion, I've added custom outfits for each level. Here are a few examples...

In order for all of the outfits to show in your game correctly, you'll need to have World Adventures and Ambitions EPs installed (I'm working on outfits which will accommodate the Base Game only, and will upload as a separate Base Game Only file later on). For some unknown reason, EA did not provide the galoshes for elders in WA, so I was forced to use the Firefighter boots to simulate rubber galoshes for elders. I wanted the tucked-in look, but noticed some clipping, particularly for elder female (see Screenshots below). I hope this won't be too irksome, because I don't know how to correct this problem, or if there even is a way to correct it! Please accept my apologies in advance!

The career includes three custom tones that your sim can select while at work to help increase the skills necessary for promotion (Athletic, Handiness and (of course) Fishing).

Your sim can join the career through the newspaper or the computer...

... or by going to the Laboratory rabbithole.

Sorry, but this career does not currently have any opportunities or events, as I have not yet been able to find a tutorial on how to create customized opportunities/events!

The descriptions and work schedules are taken directly from the TS2 career. I had to convert the pay into pay-per-hour to accommodate the TS3 pay method (TS2 uses a pay-per-day method), but tried to keep the total daily amounts equal to the TS2 amounts. Bonuses should also be close to the TS2 amounts. I can’t recall whether you could retire with a pension from a career in TS2, so I used my own calculations to determine the pension amounts for TS3.

Career Details: Levels, Descriptions, Hours and Pay

1. Fish Chummer: When Sims, or sharks, desire something other than clean cut fish, that's when the Fish Chummer steps in. Clean it? Cut it? Why bother when squeezing and smashing will just as easily do the job?
$27/hour($185/day)
$205/Pension
Hours: 4.00am ~ 11.00am 7 hrs
Days: Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat (M,T,W,R,F,S)

2. Dolphin Tank Cleaner: It's been suggested that Dolphins are the most intelligent species on the planet. So rightly so, they need people to clean up after them. Thoughts of calculus, wave form particle physics, and balancing balls on one's nose, leave little time to tidy up a tank. You've got the mechanical skills, they don't, so use 'em.
$31/hour ($215/day)
$237/Pension
Hours: 4.00am ~ 11.00am 7 hrs
Days: Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat (M,T,W,R,F,S)

3. Sea Lice Research Assistant: You're finally out of the dolphin tank and into the fire. Assisting a real live Medical Researcher with a Bona Fide degree from SimCity U's underwater telenovela department. And what a drama those sea lice are! Where the food chain meets the road they say, and how! Stay the course, get out of the lab every once in a while and get some exercise, and you'll be on your way.
$42/hour ($295/day)
$325/Pension
Hours: 9.00am ~ 4.00pm 7 hrs
Days: Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat (T,W,R,F,S)

4. Dive Master: You're not a diver anymore, and you're through with the constant itchy scalp. You are a master of diving and divers alike. Explore the deep for long lost relics, or shave some Simoleons off your monthly oyster bill. Remember to keep your own life clean and orderly as you still have to live in the real and dry world sometimes. But never forget, the world is your oyster. Oysters are your oysters!
$54/hour ($325/day)
$358/Pension
Hours: 10.00am ~ 4.00pm 6 hrs
Days: Mon, Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun (M,R,F,S,U)

5. Underwater Demolitionist: What could be more fun than blowing stuff up? Blowing stuff under water is what. You did the diving for ancient treasures, now it's time to set the charges and literally blow them out of the water.
$65/hour ($450/day)
$495/Pension
Hours: 9.00am ~ 4.00pm 7 hrs
Days: Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun (M,T,F,S,U)

6. Marine Biologist: Marine Biology. No longer just a fish squeezer or a hired hand spending all your free time trying to get the water out of your ears. Now you're in the big leagues, studying all types of strange, exotic, bioluminescent, poisonous-barbed, ink-secreting, spear spitting sea life...maybe you should invest in some goggles.
$98/hour ($585/day)
$673/Pension
Hours: 5.00am ~ 11.00am 6 hrs
Days: Mon, Tues, Wed, Sat, Sun (M,T,F,S,U)

7. Whale Tracker: Whales are really, really big, but the oceans are even bigger, and that's where you come in. Your stint as a marine biologist left you longing for the smell of salt in your nose and the spray of sea in your face. So get out your galoshes and your GPS, and hit the high seas.
$123/hour ($860/day)
$1032/Pension
Hours: 6.00am ~ 1.00pm 7 hrs
Days: Mon, Tues, Wed, Sat, Sun (M,T,F,S,U)

8. Deep Sea Fisherman: Your experience with diving, demolition, marine life cycles, and migratory whale patterns, have put you in the perfect position to now reap the seas of all her plentiful bounties. Who cares about over-fishing, or dolphin safe tuna, you know where the fish are and you're going to get them.
$189/hour ($1320/day)
$1584/Pension
Hours: 3.00am ~ 10.00am 7 hrs
Days: Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs (M,T,W,R)

9. Protector of Whales: Moving up in the world tends to mean being less hands-on, and more managerial. As a protector of whales you now spend most of your time behind a desk on the phone lobbying the bureaucrats in SimCity to pass more stringent whale rights legislation. It's not exactly working for the man, but it's working in really close proximity to him.
$412/hour ($2880/day)
$3600/Pension
Hours: 7.00am ~ 2.00pm 7 hrs
Days: Mon, Tues, Wed (M,T,W)

10. Hand of Poseidon: Um, well, there's this pantheon of deities in ancient Greek culture, and, well, one of the original three, well not actually the very original but the most well known three, split up the world into three sections. Poseidon took the seas, but the seas are really big ... so even though he's a Divine Being he could still really use some help; a right hand Sim if you will. Now all that's left to do is find that local trident store, hope the big guy doesn't ask you to deliver any plagues, and avoid payment in actual clams ...
$567/hour ($3970/day)
$4963/Pension
Hours: 8.00am ~ 3.00pm 7 hrs
Days: Mon, Tues, Wed (M,T,W)

Hope you enjoy this little walk down Memory Lane!
