Mod Info, Requirements, Object Specs and Cataloguing
Description
Game version 1.67 (might work with other patch levels, beats me)
Lipstick, cost 5, found in BuyCatalog/ByFunction/Decorations/Misc (it's one of the first ones, having a low price).
Mesh: 46 vertices, 32 polygons
The CAS items used for the facepaint (or CostumeMakeUp) have no mesh
This is a lipstick object. When the object is in a Sim inventory then the "Apply" interaction is available.
It applies facial paint to all the outfits of the Sim. I've added an interaction to remove the lipstick/makeup,
but it will also go away after a timeout or when Sims take a bath or a shower.
It uses the same system of the facial painting booth.
It doesn't apply a real lipstick (the one you can choose on Create A Sim) but a facepaint (or costume make-up).
Sims will look for a nearby mirror, if they find it they will have more chances to succesfully
apply the lipstick. If it goes wrong they'll get an embarrassing make-up and they will
react accordingly.
The mod is XML tunable. See for yourself how it can be configured (it's self-explanatory).
If you find annoying to get the lipstick from the catalog, you can use the keyword "ArsilLipstick"
and use the feature of my chewing gum mod to add it to the grocery store shopping list.
See instructions in the description of this mod for more info (inside a spoiler tag in the Object Info section).
Known Issues
Mesh, mapping and texture of the lipstick, although technically correct (maybe), leave a lot to be desired.
After the animation, you'll notice a long pause: the outfits are being updated and the Sim is preparing
to change clothes. It's pretty annoying but I don't think I can do much about it (in the booth that's not
a problem since Sims are hidden inside the RH).
I don't fare well with editing images with an alpha channel, so the textures of the CAS item used when
the makeup fails still shows traces of the original textures (the happy clown costume make up).
It is either that or somehow there are still references to the original textures. Dunno. Too stressed to check.
Or maybe it has to do with the fact that the real-lipstick is somehow CASTable (you can choose the color),
while my facepaint-lipstick isn't, so just the texture isn't enough. Something like that, I know next to
nothing about CAS items.
I haven't included the green lipstick you see in the screenshots for the same reason: I couldn't even
change the color of that texture correctly.
How to create new lipsticks
Additional Credits
I've created 9 scripts:
- Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.Arsil.Lipstick1 (the one used in the included lipstick of the mod)
- ...
- Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.Arsil.Lipstick9
So you can create a few combinations of colors and/or lipstick type (wet, gloss, etc).
How to create the lipstick object:
- use S3OC to clone the existing one using "Include Thumbnails" and "Renumbering"
(make sure to use a unique name and keep the random seed)- Use S3PE to edit the OBJK of the object and use one of the available scripts
- OPTIONAL: re-mesh it
- edit the thumbnails images and the texture of the object to represent what kind of lipstick you are doing (e.g. a black one)
- OPTIONAL: create a NGMP resource if you want to buy the lipstick from the grocery store Rabbit Hole.
See instructions on how to create a new NGMP resource (or a new entry in a existing NGMP resource),
you'll find them inside a spoiler tag in the "More Info and Examples" paragraph
How to create the lipstick facepaint
- use S3OC to clone the existing one using the Renumbering option
(make sure to use a unique name and keep the random seed)- use S3PE to rename the CASP and _XML resources (the one with the same IID of the CASP)
by double clicking on each of them and using a new unique name,
use such name as hashing key to generate the InstanceID of those 2 resources- use the same unique name chosen in the previous step in the tuning xml of the lipstick (the same you used in the OBJK of the lipstick object) in the *_Mod package
- OPTIONAL: repeat these steps to create the Fail version of the MakeUp. If you don't want to, in the xml tuning
of the specific lipstick you can use the same name used for the success version but you'll still see the Sim react
badly unless you disable failing from the common xml tuning for all lipsticks.
Even if I've cloned a real lipstick CASP item to make the lipstick facepaint, note that the CASP's "Clothing" field
is not set as "Lipstick" but as "Makeup" (facepaint).
Keep in mind that the IID of the CASP and _XML resource for the facepaint has to be generated using the name
you've set in the tuning xml of the lipstick.
