View Full Version : So how do I make a default replacement package from scratch? ETA: I'm stuck. :(

Basically, I've edited all the lenses of the Maxis base-game glasses so they are shiny - like glasses - and I would much rather have them as default replacements instead of clogging up my BodyShop catalog.

After poking around a bit, I was able to find a few different ways to edit existing default replacement packages, but I wasn't able to find anything on creating a brand-new default replacement package, and I wasn't able to find a glasses replacement package I could clone.

Did I miss something, somewhere? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. :)

(I'm also curious if these techniques can be applied to default mesh replacements...have you ever seen a woman in real life whose shirts stick to her clavicle? No? Neither have I.)

Basically, you need to default-replace whatever you have edited - in this case it's going to be the material definitions for your glasses.

You'll need to search for the mesh name using SimPE's resource finder - you can generally find that in the Property Set (or whatever the property file is called for accessories, they call it something different for different types but the internal components are near-identical) - it'll say something like afeyeglassesthinrims_black under name, so you would search for "eyeglassesthinrims" in Resource Finder, and see what it finds in terms of material definitions for the different ages.

Then double-click the appropriate entries for the ages (and any Maxis recolours) for that accessory you want to make the lenses shiny, right-click on them once SimPE opens them, and extract them. Make a new file, add in the resources you extracted, edit them, commit, and save. By extracting the originals and adding them in, that's creating a default replacement, so any changes you make to those resources retaining the same instances, etc. will be applied to the originals as defaults.

You can absolutely make default mesh replacements - see my profile for a default replacement for ambodydisco, where I removed the dumb scarf on it and changed all the original textures. You can pretty much default replace anything that you can find the originals for and extract.

I've only had a half cup of coffee thus far today so if you try this and get lost, lemme know and I'll poke at things more thoroughly for ya. ;)

Oh, man, I hate to bother you again, but I'm kind of running into trouble, and there doesn't seem to be anything on this at the SimPE forum. :(

When I searched in Property Sets for the "eyeglassesthinrims" string, I didn't get anything when I tried the string in Property Value. Then I got way too much when I tried searching the string in "Property Name". *flails*

Should I be searching in Namemaps? The txmt files look like they might be right...but I ended up with a .5tm file when I exported it. I'm not sure if that's what I'm supposed to have since SimPE can't open it (it can't read beyond the end of the stream?)

Also, how do I add information into a new file? (And is it supposed to be empty?) Do I have to type in all the lines by hand?

Thank you again for your help and patience. :lovestruc
