Mirror surface on object-is it possible?

I was wondering if it is possible to have one or two surfaces on something like a side-table be actual mirrored surfaces instead of just being highly reflective. And if it is possible is there any thread here which discusses this?

I'm also wondering how to do this. I think something might need to be done with the alpha channel :S or perhaps not.

This is possible, but not as just one item. Say you were to make a table with a mirrored top, you would have to make the table legs and base first, but make the mirrored top a completely different object.

I can't tell you how to do it, but I know it's been done before successfully without needing to make them two separate objects. In the Grand Trianon set they applied mirror surfaces on armoires, so it is possible. Maybe take a look at those objects for reference (but I don't think you're allowed to clone them).
