There was a hack for the original Sims that allowed you to assign rooms to specific sims so that you could either create private areas in the house for individual family members or create apartment buildings. Is there something like this for Sims 2 (base game)? I'd like for my Sims to stop using eachothers beds.

I was the creator of the Sims 1 apartment system, and I made one for Sims 2. But I didn't update it after the first couple of EPs, since it was completely unnecessary after they introduced lockable door flags. That is to say, Sims now do not get obsessive about objects they cannot reach.
So I advise you to either use my plain 4-key doors at simlogical for the main door to each apartment, using unhacked doors internally, or use one normal door per occupant (you could have double doors to each apartment if you need to admit two sims)

There are several ways to go about it (you can also combine them) -- I've written a short intro on multi-household lots here, with links: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=215023

Thanks for all the tips. The doors at simlogical should do nicely. I only have the base game right now (with Uni and NL coming in a couple days) when does the option to lock doors come around? From what I've read it seems like it comes around with OFB, is that correct?

Yes, the doorlocking comes with OfB.

You may find that with the base game only, "object envy" still exists. I don't think the special ignorance flag was in use before Uni.
