I've had 8 of the Sims 2 games on an old compaq laptop (updated with vista), with almost 1gb of downloads. I never had a problem with feezing.
I purchased a brand new Gateway with 4 GB Memory, 320 GB Hard Drive, Intel Centrino t5750 processor, and a Intel graphic media accelerator x3100 video card. (compaq only had 80GB hard drive and apprx. 512 MB memory)
I could not see why the would be any problem when installing those games on to my new Gateway laptop. However I also purchased The Sims 2 Apartment Life. I installed all of the games onto the laptop. (The only installed thing on the computer.) I decided to test the new game "As is", with out all the downloads.(Which are not even on the computer.)
The first time I opened Sims 2 it loaded, I selected my neighborhood. It loaded. Though when I tried to create a family it game froze (still veiwing the neighborhood.) The mouse was still moving as the hourglass, the music was still playing but it wouldn't load any father.
After a waiting for 20 minutes(music still playing mouse still has a hourglass) I "ctrl-alt-del" to escape. Restarted the computer. And tried again.
This time the game loaded to the "create a family" screen. However it now froze when I changed my sims hair. The Mouse was still moving, and music continued.
I again waited, then escaped. I knew the Sims 2 had updated itself when installing, However I wasn't sure if it included the patches. I went to thesims2.ea.com and downloaded all of the patches. And restarted the computer.
Sims 2 Apartment Life would load all the way though to the "Create a Family" screen. I could create my sim, however when I was finished and tried to go back to the neighborhood it would again freeze. Music still playing and mouse as the hourglass. I waited.
40 minutes after it showed no progess. I tried several times and never got passed this point.

I recommend uninstalling all games. Make sure the entire EA Games folder in Program Files and My Docs has been deleted, restart your computer, then JUST install the base game. Patch it. Test. If everything is okay, you can continue installing expansions and then patching, one by one and testing in between each.

I should also point out your new laptop does not meet minimum requirements to play anything past Uni, and it just barely meets requirements for that. You have an integrated video chipset, not an actual graphics card. A 2.0ghz processor is the minimum requirement for Base/Uni. Anything past that requires a 2.4ghz processor. I recommend reading through this guide: http://modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Onboard_Graphics and also this one: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:System_Requirements/MTS2_Recommendations#Graphics_Card_Compatibility_and_Recommendations

ok.
So I uninstalled all the sims2 games. And tried loaded them on one by one. I have no problems with The Sims 2. However I installed sims 2 nightlife and i'm having the same problem.

Did you patch everything as you installed? If so, sounds like you won't get far. As Calli said, your laptop doesn't meet the requirements for NL or anything past that.
