View Full Version : Help: Alpha-editing gone horribly wrong

I've been trying to create some clothing items for a Gaia Online sim-neighborhood, using Paint.NET as my image editing program. I can recolor just fine, but the moment I so much as touch an alpha, everything goes gray in Bodyshop!

Here's an example.

I'm using a dress from H&M Stuff to make Rina's dress from the website. I think I've done pretty good so far, though the scalloped edge at the top is a bit wonky around the arms and I've forgotten the flowers on her shoes. But I'd like to get rid of those tight jeans/leggings/whatever.

Well, that should be simple, right? Take my alpha...

... only remove the parts that ARE the leggings, for fear of messing up something important...

OH GOD HOW DID THIS HAPPEN I AM NOT GOOD WITH COMPUTER

My first thought was that the leggings were important to the dress mesh. But everything else I've tried to alpha-edit has met the same fate; swimsuits, sarongs, even face makeup, which doesn't have a mesh to mess up! I've looked at tutorials, but they all use exactly the same method I did.

Any ideas as to what exactly went horribly, horribly wrong? The example isn't such a huge emergency, but I've got other items on hold that I need to be able to alpha-edit for!

Make sure your BMP files are saved as 24 bit bitmaps, not any other kind.

Thanks a bunch, Cat! That was my problem. I didn't even notice that Paint.NET was saving a different kind of bitmap.
