So Maya found the love of her life in China. She invited him to visit, Woohooed, the whole bundle with no issues. Then she asked him to move in. He agreed, but no popup window appeared and immediately afterwards Maya teleported a few squares to the left.
Thirty seconds or so later, the foreign Sim disappeared. Not only did he leave the lot, he no longer appeared in Maya's relationships. I didn't go looking for him, just quit and reloaded, and tried again. This time although the move in failed, he didn't disappeared, so I used testingcheats to add him to the family and got him and Maya engaged/married in the normal way.
I noticed something else then - his father was no longer in China, but had apparently moved along with him. I'm getting notifications (from NRaas's story mod) about him going steady with a local girl while back in China his wife is still married to him.

I only have WA but it's fully patched. I use some custom content (story mod, some careers, a bunch of CAS stuff) but not a vast amount.
