how do you gain levels for an inventor?

my sim is an inventor and he is maxed out in handiness and inventing in the skills but hes still a level 1 inventor. what do i do to bring his level up? his items have been selling at the consignment store. i dont know what else to do. any help will be appreciated. :)

There was a bug with the consignment store and the items sold don't count as profit in the inventor career. Try selling your inventions directly from the sims inventory, or for larger inventions delete them from the family inventory.

Apart from that the patch before the Fast Lane patch should have fixed the consignment store issue, do also keep in mind that, unlike sculptures or paintings, inventions decrease in value over time. So, sell your inventions immediately after you finished them.
