I want to identify which character has which file name in the characters folders. In other words, if I can see the thumbnail, is there some place SimPE will give me the name of that sims file, for example N001_user00068.package is who?

I'm asking about SimPE because it seems to do everything, but if anyone else has any easy way to identify these that would be great, too.

I figured this out. It's not hard at all when you know where to look. Duh. So now I can use Theo's Alt Simsurgery with archetypes created in another neighborhood other than the one I want to play. No sim crowding. Of course, the poor clones live out their lives in subhuman conditions, but....

Since you've solved it, why don't you tell us what you learned?

Sure. Well, you know how it is... once you know something it seems really obvious and you wonder how you missed it, but SimPE just has sooooooooo much going on....

So, the file name for a character is seen in a couple of easy to reach spots (probably dozens more, for all I know). You can load the neighborhood in the Neighborhood Browser and pick a sim in Sim Description as usual and then click the More button. The first choice on the lower menu, where it says Open Character File also lists the name of the file so you don't even need to open it if you just want the name.

If you want the file names of all your sims, it's easier to open Sim Browser (after opening the Neighborhood), scroll to the right and the filenames are all listed there. (I hadn't seen this before because it opens in a small window where that doesn't show.)

Anyway, it's very easy to identify which file name is which sim.

The usefulness of this, for me, is that now I can easily use Alt Simsurgery to claim the bodies of clones made in a separate neighborhood. (I've created a neighborhood modeled on the 2005 movie The Island where these poor subhuman souls reside so they don't clutter up my "real" neighborhood. After identifying each of them by their file name and number, so cruel, I can use Alt Simsurgery with the "real" neighborhood open to do surgery on these poor "spare parts" sims. Only real problem now is that my "real" sims are beginning to take on a cruel sinister character.... I mean, seriously, what kind of people DO this?)

I discovered Theo's Alt Simsurgery by accident (there's a new release as of 3/1/2011 on MATY). I'm not sure why I never saw it in the forums, but it's actually very useful.
