after applying stencil to my shirt and viewing my model, I move the package into my game, however in the game the shirt appears invisible, except for the collar of the neck.

why is this happening?

It's hard to tell from your brief description, but it sounds like it could be an alpha problem, eg that your alpha is all black except for the collar. Posting more details, a screenshot of your sim in-game, and a copy of your texture file so that we can see the alpha, might make it easier to get an idea of what's going on.

Your texture has no alpha channel, which explains the transparency issue.

Is this your base texture or your stencil texture? If it's the base (which I assume because of the skin showing through) I suggest you start over with the EA base texture which already has a proper alpha. The base texture should not have your stencils on it, it should be all grayscale of the base shirt. I'm unsure of why the edges at the collar, arms, and bottom of the shirt are black, but maybe there's an overlay texture being used.

If this is a stencil image, you need an alpha which is white on the area of the stencil and black everywhere else. This may not be easy with irregularly shaped stencils like these.

There's two ways to add/edit the alpha channel in GIMP:

Right-click the image layer in Layers tab of Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo, etc. blah blah window.
Choose Add Layer Mask
Choose Transfer layer's alpha channel. The mask will appear to the right of the base image.
To edit the alpha channel: In the Layers window, select the image and right-click. 'Show Layer Mask' and 'Edit Layer Mask' should be checked, and 'Disable layer mask' should be unchecked.
To edit the RGB channels: In the Layers window, select the image and right-click. 'Show Layer Mask' and 'Edit Layer Mask' should be unchecked, and 'Disable layer mask' should be checked.
When finished, right-click in Layers window and choose 'Apply Layer Mask'.
Save with DXT5 compression.

The other is the Colors/Decompose with RGBA - edit - Colors/Compose with RGBA method explained in this tutorial on creating stencils which may also help you with the entire process:

Either way, for the stencil you want to end up with an image that shows only your stencil with everything else a transparency checkerboard. Ask if you have more questions or problems! :)

thank you very much! the guides you sent were helpful and the layer masking was something I had no idea about! :)
