This house started as a project for school. I then wanted to build the house in Sims 2. It is a three story house with four bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a dining room and Kiction, plus a roof-top sun-bathing area(Requested from my mom  )

I would please you to post some images of better quality. I would like to see more detailed pictures of the front and the back of the house and maybe the garden if you have made one.
I am sorry to say that but I think your house looks a bit too "normal", it doesnīt need to be really special but currently itīs big and white and...I think you know what I mean. Try to shape it a little bit more, give it a personality! Yeah, use some different windows for instance. The way you have placed the windows looks a bit boring. At one place you can find a lot of windows at the other place you donīt find anyone. I think the stairway from the garage to your 1st floor looks a bit odd on the pictures. Is it connected with a door or does it end on the top of the garage? Could add some fences? Perhaps you could use different panels for the exterior of the house (i.e. at floor ground some bricks, 1st floor wooden panels...). I donīt really like the way the panels look. Too much white as I said aboth. Than I would use the same floor for your sun-bathing-area as for your terrace on the top of the roof as well. One is dark brown the other one white-gray.
In my opinion I would change this gray carpet. You have build a three-floor-home for your simmies with a bit more money and you placed this odd carpet? Come one, some wood would make it much more luxurious. :) I really like open architecture but try to intersect it a little bit maybe with the fundaments you can place inside your house or different floors. Next, you have used two different designs for the stairs you have placed inside your house. Both have different colors and donīt really fit with each other. Perhaps you could place a bigger fire place?

I think you can change your little project to a great luxurious house for your big families with a little bit of work! :giggler:

Thank you Gincgo. I did think that the windows were a bit off. I wanted though to see what people who had more experience thought about it first before I changed too much of it. I do have the tendency to make big house.I was going by a floor plan that I had that's how I placed all the windows. It dosn't really look good in game. I'm not that good at proportioning things. The stairs are from the second floor going into the Garage. Thanks for the pointers.

the house is WAY TOO BIG. it might be better to scale it down. also, the garage door is backwards. try to paint the stick out parts of the house in stone or something like that and the rest of it in maybe siding or plastered walls.

when i build a house from a floor plan i count the spaces on the wall eg your living room is 5x5 sim squares and build like that, adjusting rooms as I go. there is a converter on mts somewhere, I have it but can't remember where I picked it up from. I've not used it yet though. I could pm it to you if you would like me to.

that would be great Karen. That would be alot easier. I wasn't sure how to scale it to lot size so it became bigger than it should be. The lot is 60X60. Thank you Shaggy for pointing out the garage problem. I'll see how I can fix it.

Okay, I changed the color of the house, Change the placement of the garage. I did a bit more landscapeing, removed the pond and changed the fenceing.

The texture I used for the exterior was was from bing images and I edited it in Home crafter and Photoshop

I think the overall plan is very nice, it has the potential to be a beautiful home. I agree to scale it down a bit. In the end your going to be struggling to put furniture in without making it look ugly or random. In my opinion, the new exterior wallpaper is ugly, i would change it. try to make the windows more aligned, but i understand that doing that can screw up the interior. Also, maybe make the garage an even number of spaces on the door side so the garage door doesn't look uneven.

I'm sorry but I think the rooms are still over-sized and the new exterior is not helping. I really like the floorplan that you are trying to replicate though. Try this excel sheet for making the rooms smaller, if they're too small you can always add another pip (sometimes you need to do that for sims houses as they need larger rooms than in RL). I didn't create it and I can't remember who did on MTS, sorry.

The roof isn't right either but I think you need to get the room sizes in proportion before you attack the roof. You might find it easier to go back to a lighter coloured exterior wall whilst you're building too - sometimes it's easier to see where you're going with it.

Looking forward to seeing a new update :)

Thank you so much, Karen. This will definitly help. I'm always thinking about how it would look in real life but don't really think about sim size. Part of the problem. I'm thinking about redoing the house so that I could size it down. to sim size without making a mess. I saved the original on my hard drive just in case something happens. it's a learning process. :( I really want at least one achivement on Mod the Sims. been here since sims 2 came out.

Don't give up, you'll get there in the end. That's what this forum is for - helping!
And yes, it might be easier to start again. :)

Itīs nice to see all the steps you made to create a nice home! :)
I must agree with all the people saying that your new exterior walls look...well, not very beautiful. You have used this read one and on the upper floors this grey stones and you have this green roof and yellow/brown fences. It doesīt really fit. Than, your windows look a little bit strange in this constellation. Itīs much better than before but still not perfect (it doesīt need to be "perfect", I think you know what I mean). Try to use different windows for each floor. However, they should fit with the other ones. I agree with Karen that your rooms are too big. Your rooms look quite dark as well. You should try to make them the correct size to fill the rooms with as much daylight as possible (and than you can use this dark wooden floor). I like special floor plans but I think that all the diagonal walls look a bit "special". I am not sure but is it appropriated for TS2?
We can talk about your garden later on but Iīd like to say that the bushes you have placed all around your lot look to accurate.
At all, youīre getting better!

i would just shorten each side of the house by 1-2 squares, thats what i usually do when i have a house that is too big.it should help make each room smaller and the house smaller overall. and i agree that the exterior paint doesnt look right, mostly because its dark and it looks fragmented from panel to panel, that and the interior looks dark as well.

I finaly got around to working on the house again today after doing some school work yesterday. I scaled the rooms with the Excel sheet that Karen gave me. I also modified the house a bit to make it liveable for Sims. My mom helped me make the roof better on the house to make it porportion.

Please give sugestions onwhat the color of the exterior walls should be. Nothing seems right for it in what the game gives.

The dimensions of the house are just off and too large. Put a sim on the top floor and see how long it takes for him to get to the street without running. More than a few sims minutes means its too big. A tile roughly equates to 3 feet or 1 meter. Theres a good tut on this site for lot building to make it realistic http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Tutorials:Building_Great_Realistic_Houses_-_From_the_Ground_Up/Interior
But for your 1st lot upload you probaby need to start with something smaller. Maybe just convert this to a one story.

Thanks for the tutorial Miss Simpleton. Really needed a guide on how to make the house appealing in the game. Going to look at this later on and update soon.

First you should do is to pick a MUCH smaller lot. This house is too big for anything. I don't think that people find large houses that appealing anymore. It was something you did the first time you got the game. But the challenge then is to actually fill it with furniture, which you'll find almost impossible. Right now I think everything looks randomly placed aswell.. Windows, doors, colors, walls, floors... My tip is to start completely from scratch again! I've seen some houses that has improved a LOT by doing that :) I don't like "attacking" people's work (I know how much it sucks), but this house is far from getting uploaded her due to the stuff I mentioned.

Let me just show you a house that I personally find appealing. It's very well done and you can see that the person has clearly focused on every small detail. Like colors that fit together, the furniture style and landscaping.

You have not put in the correct calculations and therefore your house is still enormous. For example the living room on the plan is 12 feet 2 inches by 12 feet 2 inches, so put 12 in the first x box and 2 in the second x box and the same numbers in the y boxes. The dimensions in sim squares comes out at 5 x 5, not the 10 x 10 that you have.

Move the windows in and maybe group them together in pairs. try to match the window and front door colour and style. Look at how other creators group their windows together.

And to be honest you might find it easier to save this plan for a later date, when you've got some experience in building. Why not try something smaller on a 2x3 lot for a first go?

I don't mind tough criticism, Malfoya. Don't worry. I need as much help as I can get. I have to admit it was a little too adventurous to start a house this big. I don't mind going to a smaller house and then go from there. Thanks for you guys help. Probably save this house in till summer vacation. :llama: I just got too excited. :bunny:

Good idea :) There's no need to delete it. Just give a smaller project a try first. Then you can get some building experience and do bigger houses later.
