Hello everyone :heyhey:

I started a new set for a Skate Park and I wanted some constructive criticism, hopefully from skaters themselves. Aside from playing those Tony Hawk and Skate games for years, I am no pro on this subject. I dunno, I did skate when I was like 12, but anyways...

To-Do List
1.) Skateboards (Finished)
2.) Vert and Grind Objects
3.) Skate Poses (animations are so much cooler)
4.) Flip and Grab Animations

So far, I finished the skateboards. The wheels and the board are separate meshes so that you can mix and match them. They are accessories. They are assigned to the glasses bone so I can manipulate them independent of the Sim.

Here's Some Progress Shots:
I have about 30 different boards and 17 wheels...

Animations:

(Ollie to Grab 180 Twist: Fixed the Arm so it falls down to his side at the end)

It's been slowed down so you can see it better. I can already see a few problems, the animation is a rough sketch after all. I want to fine tune it to be more realistic. Any jarring errors you see? I want very harsh advice on the animations. Thank you.

I'm no skater but this is really awesome. For the animation, it looks really good until right before he lands, I think he needs to start turning earlier, it looks rushed at the end.

I'm glad you agree on that point, I was thinking the same thing.

Updated the first animation, looks a lot cleaner now. I need to work on exit and enter animations, though.

Skateboards looks awesome :gjob:

I don't know how to skate but is the physic in the animation correct? :giggler: Is is possible to flip like this in mid-air? If it is possible, shouldn't the rider leaning forward during the turn? Otherwise, the animation looks really smooth and very well done.

The animation looks really cool already.

Since you mentioned the enter and exit already, I'm not going to poke to those, but there is a moment on the jump before he starts to turn where it looks a little like someone pulled him upwards from his jacket to make him all of a sudden raise a bit higher than his original path of flight. Not sure if you can see what I mean. But of course in full speed that prolly can't even be seen.

I'm looking forward on seeing more of this. I used to skate as a teen, being only girl in the group of boys. I never learned anything really fancy, I could only master about 10cm ollie and that was it. But it was cool anyways:D

The skateboards look wicked!

Yes, he has to twist his side to build momentum. I should make it more obvious.

I noticed that too, but couldn't find the frame. And it is unnoticeable at full speed (which is about 30% faster).

Great work! I agree that the skater looks off balance. If you can, you need to shift his weight so that it is more centered over his legs / the board. Now it looks like the weight is in his rear which is hanging off the board. (I would fall for sure. Not that I could ever do anything more than ride a skateboard years ago. I never even tried anything fancy.) Awesome work on the board and project!

I actually decided to re-do that whole animation. Looks much much better now. I added a grab in there. Don't know what to call it now lol Ollie to Tail Grab 180...?

I have some minor foot clipping with the board, though you might not have noticed, but it needs to be fixed for still shots. I also need to expand the end of the animation a bit.

And I made the Combo Box, was ridiculously easy to make (what with it being just a boxy square thing). Need to get it in-game now...

It looks like now, that when he is (I don't know the proper term for it) but when he is peddling(?)(LMFAO) or pushing off the ground to build speed, haha whatever as his foot is supposed to be hitting the ground to build speed or whatever, his foot doesn't look like it's touching the ground. Also, he is jumping over those boxes wayyyy to late... it's making it look like he has gravity control... I'm not trying to be mean at all I love this... i don't know if I'm sounding rude.. but I'm not trying to be.. anyway.. lol
Yeah, so the kicking that is naturally needed with the back foot looks good, but I think you need to work on it flowing right. When he is in the middle of the spin, he needs to be right over the boxes... There that makes more sense haha! But now the more I watch the animation.. I don't know if that's the real issue... You're the artist of this masterpiece, you should be able to see what's wrong with it... But it's absolutely fantastic!!!

A few questions:
This Skate Part Set... Is it going to be like poses? or will it be new items with the animations your making used as the interactions for the items? I really freakin hope your answer is that these are going to be new items with interactions.. but the pose player in the back has me worried.... :P

Will the skateboard be ride-able? Like, will one be able to ride their skateboard to school? It would be nice if this is the case. But I'm sure it would be more work... :\

How many objects you plan to make for the set? Like, I see you have a set of boxes that you have the guy jumping over, and you're making the grind rail, what else do you have planned?

Just some suggestions for ya:
Try going to youtube and watch how the pro's do certain tricks, and get a trick list... I think this will help you see how it's supposed to look as a reference... I guess lol i don't know, i'm just trying to be helpful :P

Love it though, it's amazing and I'd download it as is! ;D

Hey, I love the idea, as for the animations for skate tricks, check this out for future reference http://www.youtube.com/user/ashomsky?feature=watch
He has quite a few slow-motion videos of skateboarding tricks(and bails) and stuff, Hope it helps
Keep up the awesome work

ps I am a part-time skater so if you need any help with skateboard tricks and stuff don't be afraid to ask
