I'm not very good with computers, so I'm sorry lol so I've had sims 2 since 2009 and have always played it.. Just recently I started having problems with my game crashing after like 5 mins. So I uninstalled and reinstalled. about 2 months later, it started happening again but its more spaced out.. Like last night I started playing at 7pm and it crashed around 10:30pm. it says "Sims 2 has crashed, application will now terminate." or something along those lines. so I say "Ok" and then it closes out. I have 34.2GB free on my hard drive, which I think is good? But maybe I'm wrong.. I've done lots of research and a lot of people say its either downloads or low space. i'm not sure what kind of graphics card I have, but I assume since its worked these past years just fine with no crashing until recently, then its okay right? Is there a easy way I can find out if its custom content, OTHER than having to take it out and play? because since it takes a few hours, I don't want to have to sit there and play without custom content :p Or is there anything else that it could possibly be? I would appreciate any help I can get. I miss playing sims for as long as I want with no crashes :( if I left out any important information that may help, just ask and I will try and provide it.

Take out your most recently installed cc, not all of it, as it's most likely something you installed recently.

Hiya, I had the same problem for a while, usually after a few hours of play. Eventually you might spot a pattern with it. Until then, sadly you just have to save a lot.

I recently found out how to make the game crash, then I was able to test and find out which piece of cc was causing the crash. In my case it would crash when I tried to buy/use male elder full outfits (the dodgy cc wasn't the elder clothes I have downloaded).

Someone else on here said that even though you think the crash is random, it could be caused by something like a townie appearing on the lot causing the crash, in my case it would have probably been a male elder townie who was supposed to wear a full outfit.

Good luck :bunny:

These tips stopped my random crashing:

Perhaps they may help you, too!

Thanks everybody :) I went ahead and just deleted ALL my downloads and started fresh, and started playing at 10 last night.. but around 2:30 it crashed.. so I assume it can't be anything I have downloaded. I recently had installed every expansion pack, and I have the inteen hack thing and I know if you get the wrong version it can mess up your game. I have the one for apartment life, but since I had installed other expansion packs could I need a different one or is it right? I dunno.. I'm going to try the thing that you suggested Liv Lukas. So thank you :) I will let you know how it goes!

Save every few minutes. Hopefully you'll manage to get a save JUST before a crash, which will then make it much easier to find a problem file by yanking out half the downloads. That's how I solved my seemingly-random crashes. Only crash I've had recently is when the antivirus program I thought I'd disabled suddenly decided it had to do a super duper in-depth scan.

This really belongs in the Sims 2 Help forum:

Do the entire game problem FAQ; let us know what happened at each step. Provide your system specs, so that we can be sure that your computer is strong enough to play the game.

I was having the same problem as you. Even if I removed all CC, the random crashes still happened. Setting processor affinity(I have a i5 processor, I think it is a quad-core, which apparently Sims 2 can't handle very well and causes crashes) didn't help, either. So I tried by following the instructions in the thread Liv posted, but it still didn't stop. However, after I installed a program called "GameBooster", the crashes stopped! I managed to play for 5 hours straight, and no crashes, which usually happened after 15min or 1 hour. I suppose it might be worth a try?

Oh, cool Rulue! I use gamebooster too, when I am Livestreaming my game, so that the stream is not choppy. I am SO glad you found a solution and I will let other simmers know about this.
