I personally like games with an amazing story and plot, with as many ways to play as possible and several different outcomes for choices throughout it. I mostly like horror, but mainly the kind that you can't tell if what your seeing is "real", like it goes back and forth between your character's hallucinations and the real world in the game and/or never tells which is which. If the game doesn't have any horror, it must have a dark sense of humor.

Wow, I'm agreeing with you, gotta mark this day in the effin' calendar.

But yeah, I like RPGs in which you create your own character, and in which the story is pretty much driven by your choices. That's pretty much why I'm obsessed with most of Bioware's games, they nail these aspects perfectly. :3

I like the following, ready?

Survival (YES YES! TOMB RAIDER!)

Puzzle (Tomb Raider again ;) No seriously, Tomb Raider was more of a puzzle game, with lots and lots of traps and shooting things ;) )

Action

RPG's

Horror Survival Games: (Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, etc.)

First Person Shooter

But yeah, I like a lot different video games. If your question was favorite Game Character. Number 1 answer (for me) Lara Croft ;)

Sandbox. Give me lots of sand, or give me a refund.

The reason why I chose sandbox type games is because I prefer to be in control of my actions. In other words, I prefer to be given a game world, and in this game world I'm able to do whatever the hell I want and am able to go wherever the hell I want.

I don't play many other types of games, because I simply don't like the restrictions that the game will usually give you. Simply put - I like to be in control.

Call me a control freak, I guess.

This.
I only started playing RPGs for the first time this February, and I think they are my favorite. I started with Skyrim and enjoyed it a lot, so I went backwards to Oblivion and then got Dragon Age: Origins and absolutely loved it. Ended up also getting Awakenings and every DLC. Then moved onto Dragon Age 2 which I'm still playing. I enjoy it, too, despite being much maligned (though I do agree with general concensus that DAO was better).

Games I have enjoyed in the past are Bioshock 1 & 2, RE4 & 5, and GTA3, 4, and EFLC. They all have a pretty decent story.

I lose interest really fast in games that don't have a good story. I played through the original Crysis a month or so ago and although it had nice visuals, I just couldn't wait to get it over with. I couldn't even finish Modern Combat Black Pegasus on my Android phone. I don't have the patience for iPhone or Android games in general because they seldom have a story so I get bored (flinging birds is only fun for so long).

Yes, definitely seconding (thirding?) RPGs, my favourites being the Deus Ex series, the Thief series, the System Shock series, the Vampire: The Masquerade series, and the Bioshock series. Basically, I love games with good intriguing stories and a dark and/or mysterious atmosphere, with a very immersive quality that really draws you into their world, and all of these favourites have those qualities in droves. Also love a good old adventure game from time to time, such as The Longest Journey for fantasy, or Phantasmagoria 2 or Black Dahlia for horror, or fun stuff like the Monkey Island series or Grim Fandango. So many current games have flashy impressive graphics but not the well-fleshed-out, engrossing story value that all of these classics have.

And of course, the Sims series for sheer silliness value.
