View Full Version : Modular Stair Recolors Not Shown

I have the most-recent release of CEP, along with all SPs and EPs, but none of the lovely modular stair recolors I've downloaded actually show in-game; all I get are the Maxis releases. If I click on them with the little design keychain-looking pointer thing, I get the 'not designable' error. I am extraordinarily frustrated at this point and nothing in the FAQ addresses this issue (and every time I tried to search the existing forum posts, I got rerouted to a page that simply told me my search parameters returned no results).

I sincerely hope someone can help with this issue. Thankee kindly in advance.

Have you checked to be sure that the CEP hasn't gone AWOL? It was rather regularly doing that to me because I had a slightly unusual setup.

You probably need the Scriptorium, I downloaded stairs for awhile before I realized I need to add that to my download folder.

No, you shouldn't need the Scriptorium for recolors of Maxis stairs. That's only for brand new stairs.

But you WOULD need the recolorable stairs.

Agreed. This seems likely to be a CEP problem. It might make sense to uninstall and reinstall the CEP, to make sure that you don't have a bad copy.

My CEP hasn't gone AWOL - it works for all my other Maxis objects that normally aren't recolorable (my balustrades all recolor nicely). I'll try uninstalling it and reinstalling a fresh download, though. I hope it works, mainly because it's a hassle to download anything new to my Sims 2 computer (it's not connected to the internet - I download everything on my laptop, then use a thumb drive to transfer everything over). And I don't think I know what Scriptorium is... I got a new laptop the same time that Sims 3 came out (at the time, my desktop, the Sims 2 machine, was in storage). I only recently got my desktop out of storage because my current laptop won't run Sims 2 (frickin' Win7 sucks) and I was getting tired of Sims 3. Sigh.

I notice that Numenor has several recolorable stairs:

Perhaps you need something in addition to the CEP? Perhaps that's what mustluvcatz was referring to?

Yep. :) Those recolors the OP downloaded probably need one of Numenor's stairs.

Ah, I thought that the CEP included all of the recolorable stairs. Sorry for not understanding your post.

They're listed as not recolorable in the documentation. You did make me stop and think though.. then I remembered having "stairs" on my list when I was redownloading all my necessary cc. :)

Aurilia, did that resolve your problem?

I took a look at Numenor's stairs (which I hadn't seen before, and they're pretty awesome, so I snagged 'em), but only a couple of the recolors I'd downloaded were for the stairs he(?) did - most were for the cutesy stairs (I can't recall the name of them right now)... Yeah, I do a lot of 'cute' when I'm not killing my sims... Anyway, I reinstalled CEP and found Scriptorium - I'm still not too clear on what, exactly, it does, but figured I'd give it a shot. Hopefully, it'll all work alright now - I had to vacate PCdom for RL for most of yesterday and today, so I'll post an update here in a few hours. Thanks, everyone, even if this doesn't work - at least I managed coherent possible solutions!

Which stairs are the recolors for? Don't the recolor download threads mention which stair downloads they are dependent on? I'm sure that there are other recolorable stairs; I only listed the ones under Numenor's profile. Here are some more recolorable stairs:

GRR! Still no recolors showing! The new stairs from Numenor work fine, but the stair recolors I got for Maxis' "Wooden Stairs", "Steadfast Stairs", "Flight of Fancy", etc. don't show. The recolor tool still gives me the "This object is not designable" error. What am I doing wrong? Do the recolors have to go someplace special? I just put 'em in my downloads folder and I don't recall any specific instructions stating otherwise on the creators' pages...

ETA: Most of the recolors I want to use are icad's. Just so y'all know.

Modular stairs are not dependent on the CEP because they were not made recolorable by that. Each set that has been made recolorable require the mod that makes them recolorable, as well as the actual recolor files. iCad does link to the required override mod in her posts for each set of recolors, which are either the ones by Numenor or myself.

Face, meet palm. Palm, meet face. Dagnabbit - I coulda sworn I read the posts, yet somehow I managed to completely miss the ENTIRE SENTENCE IN BOLD where she told me where to find the override mod. Thanks, HugeLunatic. Lesson for me in all this: Don't download when I've been up for three days straight!

Don't feel too silly. Ghost and I both believed that the CEP included the recolorable stairs. Sorry for misleading you.

Meh, no worries - they work now. At least, the ones I've checked. Thankee kindly to all who helped!
