It has taken me a month, but I have finally completed this project. I wanted to provide a full wardrobe for your Old Hollywood starlet: everything from underwear to a formal gown. At long last, it is finished!

A few words about my inspiration for each item. The everyday dress was inspired by the classic 30s and 40s style of a blousy top with either long or capped sleeves, tightly cinched waist, and relatively straight skirt (as opposed to the flared skirt of the 50s.) The everyday trousers were inspired by the high-waiste style of the time, a favorite of Katherine Hepburn. For the formal gown, I wanted a shiny silver gown to reflect the gorgeous silver we always saw in black-and-white movies, something soft, silky, and with a pleated area below the knees for lots of high kicks!

The nightgown I also wanted to be a shiny metalic, and chose to go with gold this time. The lingerie follow the more conservative style favored in the 30s and 40, with bras and panties covering more skin--but having sheer panels for that bit of titilation!

The only item to have a direct inspiration was the swimdress, which I based on a 1940s postcard, showing a line of bathing beauties running into the surf.

The athletic outfit gave me the most problems, in more way than one. You rarely saw actresses of that era exercising, and if you did, they were wearing horrible, thick and bulky sweatsuits. The one sport I know they did play, though, was tennis. For that reason, I created a classic tennis dress, with a sporty red stripe. Once I was finished, however, I was shocked to discover that the mesh I'd used created a small bump above the right elbow.

UPDATE 03-17-11: The mesh provided by BlueIzumi is no longer available at the link referenced below. For that reason, please download the 'Hollywood Athletic' rar instead of the 'Tennis Dress New Mesh.'

UPDATE 10-15-07: BlueIzumi made an incredibly generous offer to fix the mesh for the athletic outfit and remove the bump! The new mesh can be found here, last mesh on the page. To use this mesh, download TennisDressNewMesh.rar. If you don't mind the bump and want to use the original Maxis mesh, download Hollywood Athletic.rar. Both .rar files contain two versions of the tennis dress: one with arm bands and one without.

Thank you BlueIzumi
