This career looks really awesome! Very thematic and well thought out, and I love how it's a future-specific career!

Hey! I made one of these too that I was thinking of uploading, though I probably won't now that you've already got one up. Don't want to seem like I'm copying; plus, yours is much, much better than mine. Mine honestly seems kind of... embarrassingly sad in comparison. Unlike yours, however, mine is more designed in the style of the Next Generation trio (TNG, DS9 & VOY).

I do quite like your mod though, so I think might even use it too, even though I know very little about TOS. (I'm personally a BIG Voyager fan. Grew up watching re-runs. Or, most of them were re-runs.) Each career and branch level is thoughtfully designed, as are the events, and making it a future-specific career was a really cool idea. I'm excited to give it a try. Awesome job!

Thank you, Loandbehold! I'm really glad you like it, and I hope you'll have a wonderful time playing it. Like many Star Trek fans, I can be ... a little obsessive, and I tend to think about Star Trek more than is strictly sane. But that's probably a good thing when making something as complicated as a career.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment -- they mean a lot to me. Live long and ... you know.

OkamiFukuro, I think there's room for both a 23rd-century Starfleet career (mine), AND a 24th-century Starfleet career (yours). Since it's the 50th anniversary of Star Trek on September 8, 2016, I think the anniversary year should see all the Trek stuff possible.

Mine is TOS-based partly because that's the one *I* grew up on and partly because that 50th anniversary we're celebrating is the beginning of the original series. If you haven't seen TOS, I encourage you to give it a try! It's the reason why people wanted more Trek and why TNG, VOY, and DS9 were made, after all. :lovestruc

If you do decide to watch them, I encourage you to watch them in the order in which they were made, rather than the order in which they were aired. When TOS was made, they were making up the backstory at a furious rate, and for the first several episodes, they hadn't yet figured out who sent this ship out there, who she belonged to, or what a Vulcan was supposed to be like. And Gene Coon didn't even CREATE the Prime Directive until partway through the first season, which is why Kirk sometimes seems to break it, early on. You can find the order in which the episodes were made at the Star Trek wiki's TOS page.

I'm not downloading this until someone makes proper TNG-style outfits.
Oh, and the wages are a little low. If a civilian in the highest level of the Business career makes §331 an hour, surely the highest position in all of Starfleet should bank at least twice that.

Since this is a TOS career, TOS uniforms ARE proper. You can wear anything you want of course -- Plan Outfit is always open to you -- but it seems very odd to me to complain that a career contains the uniforms that are appropriate to its era.

Starfleet is a quasi-military, quasi-governmental organization during the TOS era, and neither the military nor the government is known for having huge salaries. I'd expect civilians who own businesses would earn more -- probably much more -- than the upper echelons of Starfleet, not less. I only made the Starfleet salaries as high as I did because the salaries for the Astronomer career are fairly high, so I figured the monetary scale in Oasis Landing was somewhat different.

But that's okay -- as always, if you don't like something, you don't have to download it. Simple!

I've wanted to give it a try; I've seen clips here and there (Tribbles, mostly, because they are adorable) I just can't gather the incentive to actually start, haha. I'm such a big lover of Voyager, it's the only one I really want to watch. (I plan to go to Fan Expo this year to meet Kate Mulgrew, as Janeway is my favourite, and I'm also desperate for a model of Voyager to put on my desk, no matter how expensive). I've even been converting TS2/XNALara stuff to TS3, if that shows the depth of my obsession. :P)

But with that being said, once I've tweaked things a bit more (I'm trying to figure out how to add events, and trying to decide what events to put in; probably all Voyager related since that's all I know; I'm probably going to have to BS a few of them (I mean, how can I not add an event involving Tribbles? <3) and how to add career outfits [which I am actually attempting to make]) I might just upload mine as well, since you don't mind.

(By the way, if I have any issues with figuring things out, would you mind terribly if I pm'd you with questions? If not, that's okay.)

That's amusing, because I'm in the opposite situation. I first saw TOS in 1969 and was crazy about it for years. Then in 1986 I moved in with a man who thought that television was the root of all evil, so we didn't have one in the house. When TNG came out in 1987, not only did I not watch it, but I didn't even know it was ON.

So I didn't see any of the other Treks until about a year ago, when I told my husband that I was going to watch Star Trek, no matter what he thought. So I've seen seven episodes of TNG, one episode of DS9, and the first two seasons of Voyager. I quite like Voyager, partly because the combination of a dynamic captain, a loyal Vulcan, and a snarky doctor is an easy one for a TOS fan to love, partly because I love watching a female captain geek out with a female chief engineer.

But now it's the anniversary year, and I really need to start making up my deficit in other Treks; I plan to watch all of them (though probably not all before the end of the calendar year ).

I have a chronic illness that greatly limits me, so I can be slow to answer PM's. But yeah, you can talk to me if you get stuck. If I take awhile to answer, I'm not ignoring you, I'm just sick again.

What I did was read the Nraas career tutorial, then open up the Nraas Mobster career and the EA careers and look though all the files and try to figure out how it all worked. Feel free to open up my career and see how I've done everything. I didn't copy Twallan's or EA's words, but I did copy their methods, and I recommend that! I used Notepad Plus Plus to edit the XML's; I found that MUCH easier than editing the XML's in S3PE or Nraas Packer. Notepad++ is free, so it's readily available.

Best of luck! I hope you make something fabulous for all the Voyager lovers out there.

Watching Janeway and Torres geek out is an amazing thing (especially when they originally weren't particularly fond of each other), plus, the Doctor is great. He's definitely one of my favourite male characters, behind Q. You'll have fun with Q in season 3, let me tell you. (I won't spoil it, but the episode he appears in made me ship Janeway/Q. They are now tied with Janeway/Paris at the top of my list, haha)

No problem. I have a bunch of other projects that I'm working on, so you don't have to worry about replying right away, I totally understand. I was just hoping to have the option to contact you if things end up getting really messed up on my end. I'm sad to hear that you're so sick though; hopefully this bout of it will go away soon so you can start feeling better.

So far, I've kind of been following the Nraas tutorial, so presumably everything is working okay. I downloaded Notepad++ when I first started, otherwise I think I would've lost my mind trying to make this thing. Fingers crossed that I don't have any issues or that if I do, it'll be an easy fix. I'm thinking the opportunities might cause the biggest problem, since they require the Sims to actually go places and do things, but we'll see what happens. That and uniforms. Might not bother with those after all.

Instead of filling up your comments page with us talking back and forth, I'll PM you to let you know if things go well or if I need help, unless you'd prefer to talk here.

Thanks again for the awesome career and for all your help.

Totally forgot it's Star Trek's anniversary. Hope that means there will be more Star Trek content made for TS3. Anything goes as long as it isn't TOS, I don't care in the slightest for TOS.

When I was testing, most of the time they got the right outfit, but once in awhile, something glitched, and they wouldn't get it. Intermittent problems are almost impossible to track down!

So I suggest that you simply go to the dresser, use "Plan Outfit," and manually change their career outfit to the Starfleet uniform. The shirts and pants should still be in the game, even if you didn't get them automatically.

You're welcome!

No, I don't plan to make a Next Gen version. I lived in a TV-free household during the 80's and 90's, so although I saw TOS many times, my TNG knowledge is nearly zero.

@Gloor -- Sorry for the delay in replying to you; for some reason MTS didn't give me the usual notification about your comment.

Do you have the most recent NRaas Career mod? It's #87, and the Date Modified should say 7/18/2016.

Once in the future, the Starfleet career should be available on any computer, or you can go directly to the Observatory rabbit hole and apply there.

If it's not there, then you must have a conflicting mod. I've never gotten a report that the job wasn't available in the future before, so I don't know which mods conflict. Take out everything except Nraas Career and Corylea_Career_Starfleet, and if the job is available then, you know it's a conflicting mod.
