The Big Move

Date Posted: 3rd Jul 2013 at 10:35 PM

Yesterday I did something I've only done once before in the history of my game--I moved my entire population from one neighborhood to another. It took the better part of a day. And the results are ab-fab (that's absolutelyfabulous, for you untrendyfolk!). I moved every sim in my extensive, two-branch family from Plasticbox's Baskerville to Elsewhere, unfortunately severing several relationships. I combined as many families as possible using a bigger-family mod to preserve as many relationships as possible, but there have still been some losses. I also moved the houses the "dangerous" way--without using SimPE to clean them, mainly because I'm a Mac user with no access to SimPE--and luckily it seems to have gone smoothly, without any major bugs. The change of scenery is nice, and I like the seaside theme. I mainly did it to compact my neighborhood more, get all my sims closer together. I still like Baskerville, though, so I'm in the process of making it a subhood.

Sim! :D

Date Posted: 22nd Jun 2013 at 11:18 PM

So yesterday I finally did something I've never managed before--I got a sim uploaded! Yay! I'd never been able to get one up before. I made her last summer, originally as Chi from Chobits. But I didn't upload her because there are already a lot of great Chis here, so instead looked her over and thought about what she could be. She went through several incarnations and in making her I learned how to make eyes, recolor hair and clothing. The outfit leaves something to be desired, so I'm considering updating that, but for now I like how she turned out. It's nice to expand sim horizons.

Didn't have such a good day at work. Hit the record for the greatest amount of ice cream screwed up. I managed to save most of it, but still, I'm very disappointed in me.

A Day at the Lake

Date Posted: 19th Jun 2013 at 8:37 PM

Last summer, in Sims 2, I made a lake house based on one I stayed at during my childhood summers. I was going to upload it, but, like many people who make something, leave for nine months, and return, I realized it was horrid. I am now changing the name from "Lake Houses" to "A Day at the Lake," and starting over completely on a new lot. The new lot is 5x5 to allow plenty of room for the houses, the open lake, and the forest and hiking trails beyond. I know it's a big lot, but only one part of it will have objects--and not too many--so I hope it'll be okay. I decided to contain the lake completely on the lot rather than fudge the appearance of the lake existing beyond the lot, which doesn't look so good in neighborhood or lot view. Perhaps I'll also tinker with some of the furnishings I originally put down--they look a little bland to me. Sure hope this works!

Time set aside to play God

Date Posted: 18th Jun 2013 at 7:54 PM

All rightie, post two! Thanks to Phae for the encouragement.

So, I put my building on hold for a while b/c my bff came home from RIT for a few weeks, and convinced me to actually play again. She has a Sims 2 family she started years ago that has now grown to the entire population of North America. She encouraged me to do the same, BUT I have decided to do it a tad differently. I am going to marry members of four separate (already very large) families of mine, to create one large, very diverse super family. This family's second generation sims are already halfway through college. My friend was right--huge families and lots of memories are a blast! :D

Meanwhile, in Sims 3, I have two lots underway--an art school and a house inspired by a modernist one in the foothills of Boise. I must say, I love the freedoms Sims 3 offers--I can actually move the wall hangings up and down! :D

Recent ideas:

Gonna take a whack at some Sims 3 sims.

Making some dorms might be fun. I'd like to do one in the style of a traditional adobe house, like those I saw on my trip to Santa Fe.

Recoloring some of the lovely Sims 2 meshes that haven't been recolored yet. Maybe now that I have a tablet and over a year of Photoshop training (in addition to six years of general tinkering), I have a shot at making some good Body Shop content.

Cheers!

Community and Architecture

Date Posted: 4th Jun 2013 at 4:27 PM

All right. Journal. Erm, Sims blog no one will read. Lol.

Anywho, I thought maybe this would be good for keeping track of ideas and such. I'd like to get a little more involved on MTS, now that I have time since school is out for a while. Having a good time in Santa Fe. Lots of lovely architecture perfect for new lots. I actually found myself wondering earlier what it's like to enjoy fantastic architecture and NOT wonder how it would look/be built in-game. XD

I'm afraid now that I've started building my first Sims 3 lot, I might not be able to go back to Sims too so easily. I'll just get too frustrated at the lack of color wheels, ceiling tiles, half-grid placement, etc. Might need to build the Santa Fe La Fonda (if I'm up to it!) in Sims 2 tho. I don't have enough Sims 3 EPs for a good hotel lot.

My simification of Herron, an art school in Indianapolis, is coming along nicely. I need to figure out how to make walls in Sims 3 so I can do the "windows" properly. My fiance is gonna kill me if I install much more sims stuff on his laptop (Mac user)... Also should see if I can tone down the cc a bit. I have no idea how many custom objects I've thrown in there so far...
