Video card fry-up!

Date Posted: 7th Nov 2008 at 3:01 AM

I probably won't be uploading any new Sims clothes for the foreseeable future. My computer (most likely the video card) has decided to choke on me and blur my Sims. Without being able to see the clothing in the game (and take pictures of it), I can't really get it to the point where I feel comfortable with releasing it.

So if you were looking forward to the alpha skirts, I'm sorry! They're on hold for now.

Is the font on my TOU not big enough?

Date Posted: 14th Aug 2008 at 7:18 PM

I've come across some folks who, despite my terms of use, decided to use my meshes and package them in their own zips. I'm a little annoyed. It's not that I don't want other people to use my meshes (I do!), but I put my terms on my site for a reason. If people can just download my mesh with your recolours, what incentive is there for downloaders outside of MTS2 to visit my site? Also, I have said no to people who asked very nicely to package my meshes with their recolours; so, to find my meshes packaged elsewhere (without so much as a message to me), makes me look like a hypocritical liar.

Perhaps my terms aren't clear enough... I'll have to think about this. I don't want to seem like a mesh hog but, on the other hand, I don't want people thinking I'm a fickle liar, either.

Just for the record...

Date Posted: 11th Aug 2008 at 5:29 AM

No, I do not take requests. I'm not advanced enough to tackle some of the things that people ask for, and I have enough on my own to-do list to keep me very busy!

And no, I will not be making teen/young adult/adult/elder versions of any of my clothes. If you want to give it a try, go right ahead (keeping in mind my terms of use, of course). My focus is on making clothes for kids and toddlers, as those age groups have been somewhat neglected by Maxis from the beginning.

Ms. Pickypants

Date Posted: 25th Jul 2008 at 3:38 AM

Now I'm starting to get too picky. I'm afraid to upload stuff because it's not 100% perfect. Well, I don't think it's 100% perfect. Whether other people would notice the little things that bug me is the question.

After a few days of frustrating false starts, I finally uploaded something new. It's still in the moderation queue at the moment. I got quite annoyed (well, "pissed off" would be more accurate) a couple of days ago while playing around with a mesh I'd cobbled together from Maxis pieces. I could not get the UV map to work out properly, and there remained this stubborn jog in the check pattern on the inner leg. I thought I'd done something wrong, but I realized I hadn't actually messed with any vertices in that area at all. So I looked at the original Maxis mesh. Sure enough, it was messed up.

Let's repeat the mantra, shall we? "It's Maxis' fault!"

So I abandoned that project because I'm way too picky and I didn't want a screwed up mesh (even though I've already used that mesh piece in other uploads).

I also briefly debated re-installing Bon Voyage so I would have some extra meshes to use for projects. But I decided against it. My computer just can't handle the game. It doesn't have enough memory and my graphics card doesn't have enough memory. After it took about five minutes for my Sim to walk across one of the vacation lots (I'm not exaggerating), I deleted the EP from my system. So now I've got SecuROM but no Bon Voyage. Ugh.

Mish-mash and mesh...

Date Posted: 21st Jul 2008 at 3:22 AM

I thought I'd play around with an alpha mesh this morning (the girls' pink fairy costume), but I got thoroughly frustrated. I Googled and searched and couldn't find any decent tutorials to help me, either. I guess I'll just have to stick with the regular old kind of meshing. I was just hoping to be able to do things like asymmetrical hemlines and lace trim. Oh, well.

Talk about embarrassing! There were over 800 downloads on my Boutique Dresses for Girls... before I realized there was something wrong with the mesh. I mean, it works and won't crash your game or anything, but the ribcage was distorted. I usually do my fat morphs after I do the recolours (because I just hate making them and I put it off), and I guess I pulled some vertices I shouldn't have. Of course, when I checked it in the game, I only checked the fat morph, and it looked fine. Argh. It's fixed now, but I'm still rather embarrassed about it.

I'm kind of in a creative dry spell, though. I'm not sure what kinds of clothes my Sims need (well, they don't really need any), so I don't know what to make. Maybe I should just do some more recolours of what I've already done. I don't know...

Any suggestions? I can't promise I'll do them (they might be beyond my abilities), but I need something to jumpstart my creative Simming juices.

The Battle of the Bulge

I hate fat morphs. There's just no other way to say it. They're a pain in the butt for kids. I don't know about your Sim children, but mine rarely get fat. I think I have a couple born-in-game Sims who ended up fat, but they were boys.

I'm trying to make this silly fat morph, and my Sim girls just look pregnant. It's disturbing, to say the least.

Here a Sim, there a Sim, everywhere a Sim Sim...

I've got Sims coming out of my ears! I'll probably be dreaming about them tonight, too. I've been working on a rather large set, with new meshes and stuff, and I've been trying to get the meshing part of it done before my trial of MilkShape runs out. I'll probably end up buying it, but maybe not right away. I've got plenty of meshes to keep me busy now!

There's more stuff coming for Sim kids... soon.

Perfectionism

Date Posted: 7th Jul 2008 at 9:34 PM

I'm such a perfectionist. I also expect to be able to do things right away. Learning meshing seems to be a complicated process. But I am learning. Of course, two working meshes in as many days helps to boost my confidence a little.

Now that my meshes are starting to work and I'm not ending up with so many deformed Sims, I'm seeing so many possibilities. I think the next step may be learning to add vertices/faces so that I can do something like add a ruffle to a skirt. For now, though, I've got enough ideas to keep me busy.
