Like a dog with a bone, I'll just keep gnawing away at it. I'm stubborn like that. :D Quaxi came back to update the SimPE site! Numenor came back to update AGS to work with UC! The sims 2 community is alive and kicking! Windows update 1709 borked my game but the community strives mightily to find solutions! Onwards! Right after this nap. I'm trying to not even think about looking for my years of collected cc until after I get the game running properly on Win 10. If I don't find all those custom eyebrows and skins that were just the way I like them, I will probably still manage to carry on, somehow. http://www.alettertomydog.com/wp-content/uploads/dog-bone.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Reinstalling, Oh Ye Gods! : 15th Jan 2018 at 4:51 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=7557 ================================================================================ I'm reinstalling Sims 2 and all needed cc tools. Just thinking about searching for my old DL folder gives me anxiety. For real. That thing took years of looking for stuff and tweaking stuff. Much of it is probably no longer available. If I don't find an old backup, that's years of combing through the internet, lost. Oh well. I'm a perfectionist and a completionist. I have massive Fear Of Missing Out when it comes to Sims 2 cc. It's a disease, I'm aware of this. Really sucks the joy right out of playing and creating. See you all in a few weeks, maybe, once I have things up and running again. Don't know how much time I'll have to create with a job and small child, but maybe once in a blue moon? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DKNY02pVAAAMZUb.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : outback shirt WIP : 8th Dec 2015 at 10:32 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=7345 ================================================================================ DOWNLOAD So if I'm making shorts for trekking through the outback, we clearly also need an outback shirt, right? Right. Please tell me there are lots of these already made. I know dusty made a madras shirt (curved hem) and there's a camp shirt (hem straight across) with short sleeves too. This mesh is a teensy bit different. I think the collar shape is slightly different than the madras and I like the sleeves better. Again, this is the adult version. I will make teen and elder versions too. The texture is an edit of an Amaryll texture which is an edit of the military shirt from EA. http://i67.tinypic.com/2lsba4z.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/1610y0i.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : shorts for men : 8th Dec 2015 at 2:19 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=7344 ================================================================================ G'day mates! Some simmers in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and other southern hemisphere locales asked for summery shorts for men. Here's some stuff I'm working on while I avoid shading tunics! Adults done, going to do teens and elders too. Also want some athletic shorts with sneakers and a high boot version. We'll see how much time I have... http://i67.tinypic.com/zlvvae.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : WIP: love tunics, hate shading : 26th Nov 2015 at 3:46 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=7340 ================================================================================ http://i63.tinypic.com/2d194k.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/2ng4cu9.png I'm a mesher, okay? Shading is hard. I hate shading. Here's a work in progress. I'm not thrilled with today's shading. Tomorrow I'll surely feel more chipper about fighting with GIMP some more. Sleep does that. ;) I know what I *want* it to look like, I have source photos, I'm just not an artist. Argh. This is why I've been putting off tunics for so long. Want less boobs, crisper fabric folds, less chalky highlights, and a dark seam along the bottom edge, for a start. Maybe I should look into The Big Tradeoff? Maybe I can mesh for someone and they can texture for me? A thought for later... Also to file for later, take a lesson from Sentate and incorporate folds and bumps into meshes. Of course, that locks me into one shape and I like meshes that can be painted to look like different shapes. Potty training the toddler over Thanksgiving break! I might not get back to this for several days. Maybe I'll look more kindly on shading after a break from it . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Fixed Elder Sophie Sweater : 13th Nov 2015 at 9:50 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=7335 ================================================================================ Fixes for kalynn's elder sophie sweater. Here's a four corner hem tunic. I keep tweaking the mesh. Making it longer, adjusting the normals for a smoother appearance, changing the UV map as I find small distortions. It may end up with embroidery on it, we'll see. Might leave it plain. Maybe both? Wouldn't give up my snuggly baby for the world, but he does change my priorities and simming gets pushed down the list. Expect these shirts at some point. This year. Maybe. Just teeny changes, but in case anyone else wants them, here you go. The edited mesh replaces Amaryll's original. Made a mesh, but Jacci had already made a similar mesh. Mine doesn't have artefacts at the hem, but it is a small difference. Put needlecream and Artemida's lovely textures on the mesh, but don't feel right uploading just other folks textures. So I'm making some of my own. Didn't actually intend to make this top originally. Was making some alpha tunics. Decided those needed leggings and skirts. Then thought the skirts needed a variety of tops to go with them. Went looking for tops. My first attempts need some adjustment. Some of the darker shades need to be darker still, and several need to be more saturated. The teal and moss need to be more different from each other. The orange is just hopeless and needs to be remade. A few did turn out nice though, so I'm feeling hopeful. Little Guy is sleeping in a baby carrier on my chest as I type this. Trying to get the hang of baby wearing. So far, I fail epically. He cries in all the carriers I try to put him in, and getting him in and out seems like wrestling an oiled octopus while drunk. And now he's crying, for no reason I can easily discern. Will try changing, feeding, burping, snuggling. It may be I'm just squishing him with this stupid carrier that I can't figure out how to use. Or he could be too hot in it. I sure am. Poor little guy, wish I could make him comfy. Thank goodness the doula is coming tomorrow to help me figure this out. I've read, watched videos, had friends show me how to do this, still suck at it. If more people practiced baby wearing in the States, it wouldn't be a lost art and maybe I wouldn't be so inept at it. Maybe I can help someone in a few years, if I ever figure it out? edit: Asleep again. Mercurial little baby is mercurial. At least he's happier in the fail carrier than alone in his rocker, so maybe I'm not the world's worst mom. Yes, I have first time parent issues. :) I'm going to rate my skirts based on whether little guy sleeps, grunts, or coos. ;) I shouldn't complain. Got first world problems. I'm actually quite fortunate to be able to take leave and change jobs so I can stay here and care for my sweet little guy. Not in any kind of timely manner, it's very slow, but I'm happy to get any sim time at all. Once I figure out the ring sling, can snuggle baby and sim, maybe. This simple tank mesh is the base for my alpha sleeve mesh (with different arms). I adjusted the UV map to minimize texture distortion. I've done what I can to reduce mesh self-intersection. There are still a few minor visual artefacts near the underarm. With opaque sleeves, you can remove them by painting the underarm skin. With sheer sleeves, painting the skin doesn't look good, so you get the minor artefacts. You can see the mesh adjustments I've made below. These sleeves will be part of an alpha tunic too, not just this shirt. I want to get them right. It's a pleasant challenge so far. Clipping is actually reduced from what it was initially. edit: The hands were an easy fix, I had simply put in the wrong bone assignments, 50% thumb rather than 75%. The underarms are trickier. Already did quite of bit of reshaping the sleeves and modifying the bone weights, trimming the underarms a tiny bit, and that reduced some clipping, but added clipping elsewhere! My current solution is to throw more polys at the problem in the sleeve underarm portion, and thus make the bone weight change more gradual from the undarm to the upper arm in the sleeve. This will also put some more space between the underarm and arm / sleeve. I was able to look *inside* the torso in MilkShape to see just where and how much the sleeve was intersecting the underarm, big help! http://i41.tinypic.com/28ksgeb.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2czocat.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : lace shirt - more colors : 13th Nov 2013 at 6:15 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6804 ================================================================================ I can't make one color of something. Think once these are done, I might actually start uploading! Got piles of shirts ready to go, but wanted to start with a variety pack that showcases the possibilities inherent in the mesh. I'm also waiting to upload until I've tested the heck out of the mesh with various alpha textures. Alpha parts can be tricky at the joints, while animating. Don't want bare skin poking through. Not an alpha issue, but need to adjust bone assignments at sleeve near wrist and hand... a work in progress... edit: fixed the clipping on the lower arm too http://i40.tinypic.com/33465xt.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/2rnhroz.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/2lda7nb.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/15q5amq.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/eg274k.jpg Got the original lace texture off one of the numerous textures sites, don't recall which. I'm making a series of shirts with various length sleeves, sheer sleeves, lace sleeves, to demonstrate the options possible with my alpha mesh. Here's one in the series, with somewhat longer sleeves than the "simple basics" and stripes I did earlier. Also has a different collar because variety is a good thing. It's slow going, but very pleasant. :) This one was SO much easier than the stripes. With a pattern from a photo, I just have to do the collar, the shadows, the shading (so you can see the shape of the bust in bright light), the bump map, but NOT the pattern. Maybe lace sleeves next... Or a wrist length button up... or a crop top with hearts and lace edging... http://i41.tinypic.com/a08oy8.jpg skirts and pants by Trapping, BlooM, xgoat, migamoo, Sentate, and me http://i40.tinypic.com/2j5gsnk.png . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : upcoming stripes preview : 8th Nov 2013 at 9:32 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6797 ================================================================================ These are almost ready for upload, need to take in game pics. Five shades of B&W stripes, can be worn tucked or untucked. edit: Just noticed the thick black stripe under the bust is thicker in back, squashed in front. Had tried to prevent that with my UV map edits. :/ Tweak UV map some more. I can't unsee it now. *twitch* If it takes more than a day, will say "good enough". ;) edit2: It's not the UV map, but the mesh animation. I could agonize about these shirts some more, or I could define them as done, much as that not perfectly straight line near the underarm pains me. If I make it straight for that pose, it will surely be wavy for another pose, such is the effect of animations on a mesh. I must accept this and move on to other projects or this will stop being fun. Onto exciting new textures! Lace! Cardis! Appliques! ... and that square shape of the underarm, seen from the back. Could have textured that to look more round. No, bad Cat! Stop nitpicking! Make it round on the next shirts. Breathe... relax... remember many folks won't even care about that. Stop looking at it! We'll see if my texturing skills can do justice to these lovely shirts, heh heh. I think I can manage the belted cardis, and the lace, but the crochet may be quite challenging for me. My UV map has made stripes and sleeves much easier, but the texture still needs a few tweaks. When a sim moves their shoulders, the texture can get lifted up near the shoulders. I compensated for this at the front, but not the back yet. Forgot that the shirt / tucked bottoms border is curved, not straight. Need to gradually change from "straight across" stripes at the chest to a curved stripe at the waist or it looks jarring. Just on the "snug torso untuckable" portion, not the loose tunic portion. Maybe do that in the UV map so I don't have to hand paint curves on every texture? edit: Nevermind, won't work, can't alter UV mapping at waist! Oh well, handpaint curves it is... http://i43.tinypic.com/2mmfdip.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : HappySim capris now work with untuckable shirts 10/22/2013 : 23rd Oct 2013 at 1:59 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6778 ================================================================================ HappySim made lovely capris, but they had the same bug as the HM pants they were made from. They didn't work right with untuckable shirts. I fixed them. Look the same, just work with untuckable shirts now. Added a preg morph too. Posted in HappySim / Abbey12388's thread, but who knows when she'll read it, or if she'll replace the files, so you can grab the fixed version from mediafire HERE. originals: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=322562 fixed version: http://www.mediafire.com/download/6ne5n0lmgyl7dzo/HappySim_untuck_fix_Cat.7z (don't need originals, just the fixed version, but go hit HappySim's thanks button) http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/1452/4xgdzi2kmjm7157fg.jpg?size_id=5 Recolors of HappySim's Original Mesh If you have recolors of the original non-untuckable mesh, they won't work anymore, but are EASILY FIXED. Anyone know of any recolors? Method 1 (BodyShop): Before installing the fixed files, make BodyShop projects out of each recolor you want to fix. Keep the textures, toss the recolor package files. Install the fixed files, fire up BodyShop, make some recolors of the fixed mesh using the textures you saved. Method 2 (SimPE): Way faster and simpler than BodyShop. Just open in SimPE and change the GZPS. The name of the override should be bottom, not body. CREATORS! If you want to base stuff off of the HM jeans, please save yourself some work and use fanseelamb's fixed versions (and my preg morphs), not the borked EA originals. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Alpha Shirt, Shading 10/21/2013 : 22nd Oct 2013 at 2:46 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6776 ================================================================================ My shading usually ends up being too subtle initially, so I may have to intensify this. Next up colors, then stripes. Then a different design, tunics, not just shirts, with a different neckline, sleeve length, and loose lower portion. http://i42.tinypic.com/2pquovd.jpg Also got the sim to quit stabbing herself in the armpits with her own shirt. Took a little mesh vertex coordinate and bone weight adjustment, but now there should be no naked arms poking through the shirt armpits when the sim moves, hopefully. Had to edit the UV map a teeny bit after that. Incremental testing for the win! Hmmm... Colors look good, but they need more contrast, like the white. http://i40.tinypic.com/240yzgi.png . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Today I Made A Collar 10/20/2013 : 21st Oct 2013 at 6:05 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6774 ================================================================================ Below is a day's work, one collar, seams, a sweatshirt pattern. The collar looks deceptively simple, doesn't it? Try to get a smooth, continuous curve on an angular, discrete mesh, it will take all day. There will always be some angle from which it still looks angular, so get at least the common camera angles to look right and don't obsess about making it perfect from "bird about to land on shoulder" perspective. Then deal with texture distortion at the shoulders when the sim has their arms down. Minimize distortion for the common case (arms down). Don't worry as much about less common poses (arms straight out or up). I could have kept the collar in the non-distorting area of the shoulders, but I wanted a wide collar. Make sure collar matches up at front / back of torso boundary. http://i44.tinypic.com/2ez20bt.jpg Tomorrow, folds and shading. Perhaps even colors! And then maybe stripes, which are my eventual goal. And bump mapping, must not forget that. Then, of course, in game testing. Probably at least two, three, maybe four evenings more work just to get one texture I can recolor and chop into stripes. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Blur Fix for Toddler Outfits : 20th Oct 2013 at 1:53 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6772 ================================================================================ Got blurry toddler or infant outfits? Here's the fix simmer22 found. Yay! I think I might be right in it being the skin size. I resized my default skins to 1024x1024 for infants and toddlers to test it, and now the 1024x1024 infant outfits show in the proper size. Doesn't seem to affect smaller textures, and the skins look pretty much the same, so it's a nice quick-fix. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : alpha tunic - sleeve mapping 10/17/2013 : 18th Oct 2013 at 5:08 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6770 ================================================================================ The UV mapping of the alpha tunic mesh is done. Check out the sleeve mapping! So much easier for texturing than typical early EA sleeves. Each sleeve is ONE piece on the map, not two, and the bottom seam of the sleeve is the edges of the map. So no ugly seams on the sides of the arm, no painstaking trying to match textures on two pieces of sleeve mapping for the same damn sleeve. http://i41.tinypic.com/2h49sme.png I decided to test the mapping with some MTS textures I love that were just screaming to be made into separate tops. This knitted top outfit texture by play_jarus is just lovely. This won't get uploaded without permission from play_jarus because of "no unrelated projects" policy. :/ Oh well. I can still use it in my game. Note the shape of the mesh at the chest. Shaped like a shirt, not like spray paint on nekkid boobs, unlike the paysite mesh the original texture was on. Of course, I don't criticize texturers for meshes. Just pointing out why I made a tunic mesh. (texture fitted to mesh, sleeves added) I widened the sleeves some since this pic was made, so the sleeves aren't almost on the skin, and look more obviously like sleeves. http://oi44.tinypic.com/oizknl.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/xoprw6.jpg Leny's sweet date outfit texture converted to top only. Again, same policy, no unrelated projects. *sigh* I will respect other creators' wishes regarding their textures, but darn, this makes a sweet top. No sleeves on this one, but I could test whether there's minimal distortion of the loose lower portion of the tunic's texture. The fabric folds don't quite look as I expected, although in MilkShape, straight lines on the texture were straight on the mesh. Must be something to do with the sim's pose and how it moves the shirt mesh. Must keep this in mind when texturing, or maybe tweak the UV some more to compensate? We'll see. Again, note the mesh shape below the belt, compared to the EA naked body mesh the original texture was on. I like tunics on tunic meshes. (raised belt, alpha edit of edge, changed bump map) http://i42.tinypic.com/2eaknj4.jpg Next up, going to make my own textures. I have so many plans! And if I find some textures that would make great separate top tunics from creators who allow use and modification of their textures, you'll probably see those uploaded to MTS,with credit, naturally. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Gelydh cropped pants, morphs added 10/16/2013 : 16th Oct 2013 at 8:39 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6768 ================================================================================ I added curvy and preg morphs to Gelydh's cropped pants, with permission. Documenting is fun, and if anyone's following along, that's a bonus. ;) ------------------------------------------------------ NEXT: morphs and texturing... Mapping of sleeves done. Seam is now on bottom, not on left and right side. Straight lines appear straight, curving, stretching, distortion minimized. Now to do something about the stretching on the torso... done. The bust area is still more stretched than I'd like, but it will do. http://i41.tinypic.com/33vyr6h.png UV mapping take a long time. Trying to remove as much distortion and stretching as possible. Still not happy with the stretch on the bust. The stripes on the shoulders turn up when arms are down, and the texture on the shoulders stretches, since that parts is EA mapped. If I mess with that, skin texture may not fit right. *sigh* Will just have to texture with that in mind. The mapping on the sleeves is awful. Just EA arm mapping. Major revision needed there, so the map looks more like one rectangular piece of fabric, and the seam can be easily placed at the bottom of the arm, not the sides. http://i42.tinypic.com/2ezk2sy.png various sleeve lengths, tunic bottom or untuckable shirt http://i43.tinypic.com/2ufv8r9.png tunic top de-boobed, sleeves widened http://i40.tinypic.com/2i5bpz.png start of tunic, with my nude top, oxford sleeves, and modified gelydh tunic bottom http://oi39.tinypic.com/2v1wyte.jpg ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Alpha Tunics, and Creativity for Mental Health : 4th Oct 2013 at 1:00 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6759 ================================================================================ Last night, I started meshing again. It felt wonderful. My worries drained away, thoughts of work, gone, replaced by soothing, delicious focus on the creative process. Not that I'm an artist nor meshing genius, but I imagine my hobby and a professional painter or game company mesher's work give the same feelings of satisfaction. I feel like I'm stretching muscles rarely used, tapping a part of the brain not often called on during the day to day stuff. It is soooo good for my sleep and blood pressure, I kid you not. http://i39.tinypic.com/2v1wyte.png Here's a sneak peek at my work in progress. The goal is a set of alpha tunic meshes with various alpha sleeves: long sweatshirt style, wide bell sleeves, 3/4 peasant sleeves with a flare near the elbow, short poofy sleeves, and connected wing sleeves. Many, many looks should be possible. The torso has an alpha part to allow for varying lengths of 3d untucked shirts, as well as mesh or crochet overlays, and maybe cardigan or sweater jacket and shirt combos. More snug shirts can be made by texturing the opaque snug torso mesh and leaving the alpha torso part untextured. The snugger opaque torso is, of course, untuckable. The alpha part goes a bit higher than Gelydh's tunic, and has a somewhat looser fit, to allow different looks than those possible with Gelydh's great mesh. Different from HP's as well, because variety is the spice of life. Biggest difference is sleeves, HP's has no alpha sleeves, while Gelydh's has very short peasant alpha sleeves. Enough musing. MOAR MESHING! ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Before Creating, Reinstalling... : 2nd Oct 2013 at 6:41 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6757 ================================================================================ So the creator bug has bitten me again. Been biting me since the Terrible Computer Crash of 2012, but I haven't had the stomach for reinstalling. Good thing I kept my old folder of cc. The Insimenator site seems to have gone poof, so I hope I still have that in Downloads. Garden of Shadows seems to be a tumblr now. Club Crymsin only does Sims 3 now. I miss those old sites, but have lots of their stuff in Downloads. Take a break for over a year, that's what happens, I suppose. Reinstalling all cc creation tools. Burning them to DVD, in case this machine decides to die too. Reinstalling all my old Sims 2 CDs. So that's several evenings of blah installation work before I can do anything resembling fun, but have to scratch that creating itch. Thank goodness for MTS and its dedicated staff, keeping this site around. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : morkmork's lovely shirts : 1st Oct 2013 at 5:22 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=6755 ================================================================================ morkmork made lovely recolors of my rolled sleeve mesh in 2011 Maybe not new to you, but I just realized they're there. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/ad358/hellossims/Sims2EP92011-03-1300-40-37-86.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/ad358/hellossims/ButtonUpSwatch.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : computer still borked : 6th Mar 2012 at 6:18 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=5984 ================================================================================ My poor PC is still borked. It forbids selling CC made with Workshop, because, um, it might be buggy, yeah, unless you sell it on T$R, and then it's totally okay. Well, Workshop hasn't been in Beta in a looong time, it's up to 2.x now. The very first line of the Workshop EULA says it is for the Beta version. So does that mean selling Workshop made CC on non-T$R paysites is no longer explicitly forbidden? Anyone know? I don't feel like slogging through T$R forums to look into this. Valid for all BETA versions of TSR Workshop. This will be updated before a final 1.0 version release which may allow the sale of content created with the software outside of TSR. "may allow", uh-huh. Is that like Newsea "may" have gotten a raise and a private subscription area, but didn't, and then got booted? Read an article recently about sociopath CEOs. The general population is about 1% sociopath, while CEOs are about 4% sociopaths. A sociopath is very charming on the surface, completely incapable of feeling any empathy nor guilt, lies pathologically, manipulates ruthlessly, refuses blame for wrongdoing, is very arrogant. (It's incurable, physical defect of the brain.) I'm not a medical professional, not qualified to diagnose anyone, and it could be that someone who seems sociopathic isn't, they're just a colossal asshat. Can't stop making skirts. So many patterns! Must use them all! Must save some patterns for other meshes. In the meantime, have 12 more classic skirts with pumps, heels, and now wedges (yay wedges), and 8 more colors of the modern shirt, oepu style. Forgive me, I got lazy and sloppy with the upload threads for these. Didn't put in my customary links to the shirts / pants shown, just wrote who made them. Can't resist the dystopian novels! Read Animal Farm as a kid, and that didn't put me off. Some say the Hunger Games is too dark, too much of a downer. I disagree. It's far cheerier than 1984, and ends on much more of an upnote. War vets who have read it applaud its realism. I was drawn to the characters. They are painted in sparse strokes, not a symphony but melodies of a few notes, yet compelling for all that. They are very human, and some even humane. I have almost nothing but praise for the ending. My one quibble is that the way Odair's story wrapped up felt rather rushed. Now in serious withdrawal, been trawling the web for all things Hunger Games. Look what I found! Not all of these are great cinematography, but they combine Sims and my current favorite books. Episode 13 of a whole series! The Hunger Games, presented by sims. Rather imaginative. Adds many details not described in the book, but suitable for film. Then put flags on all your old uploads! Creators who haven't yet put flags on their old uploads should be flogged! Flogged, I say. (Unless they're inactive, obviously.) Site Helpers can't do it all for you! There are many thousands of old uploads here! I have flagged hundreds. Just asking you to flag your few. Grumble grumble. Anyhoo, here's what I found today. Solid color is easy to shade, but textures require much more heavy duty shading to see the shading and not just the pattern. Tried a light layer of texture, and a dark layer, with an alpha mask, paint the highlights on the alpha mask. Tried using the bump map, with increased contrast, as that alpha mask. Not that great, lose detail. Need to handpaint the alpha mask, methinks. Done that before, very time consuming, but nice results are rarely fast. :/ . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Modern Patterned Granny Shirts : 9th Jan 2012 at 7:00 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=5879 ================================================================================ Modern patterns and styling for granny! This time, it was Pralinesims stealing from Lemonleaf. Apparently, Thoma$ can no longer sweep FA theft under the rug and pretend it doesn't happen, so he issued a half assed not-much-of-an-apology. He continues to pay Pralinesims, whom he did not name in the "apology". An ethical company would have fired her for plagiarism. (See the article from September on Coconut's blog for evidence and details.) from the T$R website It was brought to our attention several days ago that one of our Featured Artists was accused of using textures from another well known artist in the Sims community, namely LemonLeaf. As we always do when accusations of theft are sent our way we initiated an investigation which at that time did not provide enough evidence for us to take a stand and take any action. We have however taken this seriously, as we always do when it comes to intellectual property rights, and with the assistance of LemonLeaf and other experienced makeup artists among our team, we have now concluded a second investigation and decided to remove 12 files that are too similar to the original work created by LemonLeaf. We thank everyone for their support and guidance on this matter and we apologize sincerely to LemonLeaf for not being able to confirm this sooner. No mention of the mystery FA! Oh, who could it be? . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Bikini for Granny : 6th Jan 2012 at 11:10 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=5870 ================================================================================ Seasons bikini with kalynn's textures for granny. O.o --------------------------- If you read The Graveyard subforum of Site Issues, you know how MTS deals with creators who steal others content. They are banned, never allowed to upload again. If you recall events of some time ago, this is not how T$R treats thieves. When Shakeshaft stole Buggybooz mesh and textures, T$R did not ban, censure, nor criticize Shakeshaft. Instead, they hacked Buggy's account at MTS, attempting to delete her stuff and change her policy. (Delphy restored it.) They then listed Shakeshaft's minisite as a shiny example of what you get if you're an FA. A deliberate slap in the face to the free community? They continue to employ, to pay, Shakeshaft The Thief. Old news. More recently, joninmobile stole Maylin's tardis mesh. MTS investigated, and found proof that jon's mesh and textures were Maylin's. Not hard really, just look at both creator's items. Did T$R investigate? They're probably going to promote him instead of investigating him, unless that special treatment is reserved for Shakeshaft. ;) I remind folks of this due to recent events at Garden of Shadows. They were recently hacked by a "mysterious someone" using the same IP address T$R has used before to hack many free sites. T$R attempted to destroy content, but only managed to wipe out some thumbnails, which have all been restored. edit: Sailfinsims hacked too. They're right back up now, no damage at all. http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab133/Cat_Of_War/tsr_monkey_computer.png How petty, how unethical, how very desperate! They sell CC, they want to compete in a market, but clearly they don't think they can do it based on the quality of their products and service, so they resort to destructive hacking. Disgusting and pitiful. edit: That last scathing bit is directed at Thomas, Atwa, and anyone else doing the hacking. I realize many members of T$R and some creators may be decent folks who just like the community they have there. I do wonder though why they aren't as disgusted by management's behavior as I am, and why they can't find a site run by decent people to have a nice community. Anyone who creates stuff for T$R, pay or free, for whatever reason, is directly helping Thomas the hacker line his pockets. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : new version of hair binner coming soon... : 4th Mar 2011 at 6:53 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=5362 ================================================================================ Been updating the hair binner, and will release a new version soon. It has an untuckable waist. All your recolors (-Ounce-, Randir) will still work, but now, all the untuckables will have no seam at the waist! And there's a version for elders too, because they get no love. Still needs some work, fit better under dusty's long shirts, add more colors. I'll also make a version with sandals and Family Fun patterns in a band around the bottom of the pant leg. Will go with FF shirts... Must select a shirt and bottoms before clothes will show. This does not happen with other ages. 2. Thumbnail images are incorrectly generated. They show the pubodynaked mesh. They don't show the textures. 3. Clothes are too shiny. I suspect 1 and 2 are due to there being no toddler separates for me to start from. There's probably fiddly bits in the mesh and or recolors I need to adjust. Maybe the game isn't treating these fully as separates. 3 is could be a TXMT issue, or may clear up if I fix 1 and 2. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Duck Slippers! : 14th Jun 2010 at 4:18 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4910 ================================================================================ duck recolors of the alligator slippers http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/gatorDuck.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Alligators for Everybody! I don't believe there is one, so I'll write one that does the following: 1) mirror vertices (change sign of x) 2) adjust normals (change sign of x) 3) change bone weights (right to left and left to right) 4) change triangle vertex order, so backface culling works 5) keep UV mapping the same UV Flip Plugin DONE! get it here The reason I'm not adjusting the UV mapping is that for shoes, I want the left and right shoe to share a texture. However, for clothing meshes, you may want to make one side, mirror the other, and also mirror the UV map. It deals mostly with recolor resources (TXMT, TXTR, GZPS, XHTN, STR#, 3IDR). It also compresses/decompresses, built on benrq's code. I have used this library to write my tooltip adder, extra TXTR remover, and most recently, a hair recolor debloater. download DBPF C++ library and example program source There is currently no documentation, but I did provide example code written using this library, a hair recolor debloater. It is well commented and shows how to open a package, decompress the resource types you want, modify stuff, then compress and write a package file. (Note, the debloater is not general purpose, it is for my beret hair.) . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : beret + long SIMPLE hair, now works, yay! : 29th May 2010 at 6:38 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4851 ================================================================================ Finally got my 2nd beret+hair working. This time, used longsimple hair (straight rather than wavy). Took me literally days to get child through elder to show, foreheads to not disappear, and hats to get textured properly. Then there was the time I somehow managed to lose every single bone weight on every single mesh node, still not sure what I did there. I may need "hair for dummies", but at least I'm done. :) Well, the kid hat still needs some remeshing. Somehow, it ended up looking like a giant muffin rather than beret shaped, but I'll fix that. beret + longsimple hair Oops, there's a kink in the hair near the hat brim, must fix that... (fixed now) Aaaand you can see the hat poking out of the hair at a certain angle, must fix that too... (fixed now) The hair stabbing the blond sim through the left eyebrow, that's EA's fault. I'll just go for good. http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/hairAndHat17.jpg http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/beretHatPoke.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : BINX befuddles me : 27th May 2010 at 10:13 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4848 ================================================================================ So I'm making another version of the long hair with a beret, this time using hairlongsimple, when the BINX resources in my recolors start mysteriously disappearing after I look at (broken) recolors in BodyShop. One moment, there are 11 BINX resources, then I use BodyShop, and when I open the same exact file with SimPE afterwards, something has eaten all but one BINX. Resource gremlins? So I'm wondering... - What values should BINXs have in hair recolor files? - What do the values in a BINX mean? What do they control? - Do BINX values do something different in hair than in makeup? Here's what I think I know... - They have something to do with the image catalog. - If you have a GZPS with Instance #N, you must have a 3IDR #N *and* a BINX #N. Without the BINX, no image shows up in the hair catalog. - In working hair recolors, the last BINX has different values than the others. Also, "hat" BINXs have different values than "non-hat" BINXs, at least in BastDawn's hat hair. - Just copying BINX values from one recolor file to another won't necessariy work if they use different meshes. Must scour the Create forums and MATY. The DBPF wiki has not been much help. If anyone reading this understands BINXs, please, please clue me in! . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : beret + long hair done, hair debloat program written : 26th May 2010 at 7:08 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4842 ================================================================================ Finally finished my beret + long hair, nicely tucked under the hat. Binned, familified, one grey, tiny files (12-50 kb!), properly animated meshes, oof! Debloating the BodyShop packages took the longest. Hair Recolor Debloater Ended up writing code to debloat because the tedium of doing it manually made my brain drip out my ears. The debloater does the following, in batch mode, no clicking/selecting needed: - bins - familifies - removes toddlers, removes elders except from black - removes hair textures, switches to Maxis texture referencing - makes all 4 colors use one hat texture in the black package - nukes oodles of unnecessary TXMTs (100 -> 4) - updates 3IDRs to use the TXMTs that are left - compresses Currently, the number of hair alpha groups is hardcoded, as is the Maxis hair texture to reference. The code expects a frame and lens group in the mesh (my hat). Toddler removal is hardcoded, can't pick and choose ages. So it's not general purpose at all, but it does what I need for my recolors. Not releasing it on MTS yet because it's not a general purpose. If I change it into something more general purpose later, maybe even a non-bloaty, binned recolor creator, I would release that, but who knows if that will get done. If you want to bin, familify, and remove ages, use jfade's wardrobe wrangler. To debloat, you can use SimPE, my extra TXTR remover, and jfade's compressorizer. C++ DBPF package library (mostly for recolors) Maybe the C++ library code might be of use to someone, might put up a link to it later. I used it for the debloater, my extra texture remover, and my tooltip adder. However, it needs some API documentation and an example program, and I haven't made those yet. Hate releasing undocumented code (comments are not sufficient documentation). The library can read and write package files, and has some high level functions for altering recolor resources (TXMT, GZPS, XHTN, 3IDR, STR, bit of TXTR). No need to mess with low level file IO, nor manual creation of indices and DIR resources. Just get a bunch of resources from the package read function, create/remove/alter them, and give them to the package write function. The compress/decompress code in the library is built on top of benrq's code, and has high level wrappers. You just specify which resource types you want uncompressed upon package read, and they get uncompressed. Upon package write, everything gets recompressed. Certainly other, more extensive libraries exist, Delphy's for example. As far as I know, those aren't C++, and I like that language, so wrote my own. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : long hair + beret, almost done (support MATY) : 20th May 2010 at 11:05 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4836 ================================================================================ Do you use Awesomemod? Support the Municipality! Considering the amount of useful info to be found there, I think it's well worth a few bucks. In other news, the hat with long hair is progressing slowly. Beating on BodyShop to make it show the hair, in the proper categories, with the correct meshes, linking to Maxis when appropriate and melodie9 meshes when appropriate, all without exploding the sims's head. Good times. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : long hair + beret : 17th May 2010 at 5:18 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4829 ================================================================================ My accessory beret works nicely with some short and medium hair, long braids, and long ponytail, but it doesn't look quite right with loose long hair. The 256x256 texture is too small, makes things blurry. My black could be blacker. But the mesh works, and the texture is about 80% there, so yay! And it shows up for child through elder, hurray! This didn't come out quite like the source photo (see previous journal entry). The real beret is floppier, has a bigger button too. However, I'm happy with this shape, so I won't try to floppify it. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Beret with Feather for Ciri : 10th May 2010 at 5:07 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4815 ================================================================================ I'm making a hat, jaunty beret with feathers. The idea came from Fairy Teller who wanted to make a sim of Ciri (girl from Andrzej Sapkowski's great books). This was months ago, so not sure if she's still going to do that, but I like the idea of making the hat. So here's pictures of the start of the project... Fairy Teller suggested it should look like this. I can't quite get this shape, but will do the feathers. http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab133/Cat_Of_War/beret02.jpg?t=1273465099 Here's the current start of the mesh. Might do an accessory version for short hair, and a hair/hat combo for long hair. Thanks HL for the suggestions, and for finding where the Xmas hat lives. Apologies to folks who posted questions about my download threads and didn't get answers. I have tried to get back to all of you. If I missed something, feel free to remind me via PM. Next time I'm gone for a while, I'll try to put up a journal entry stating "Absent Cat is absent until further notice" or some such. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : DEFAULT adult/teen t-shirts, untuckable, MATERNITY, and elder tees too! : 1st Nov 2009 at 7:01 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4431 ================================================================================ Oof. I'm default replacing women's tee shirts to make them untuckable. Added a maternity morph to the AF tee mesh. Made elder tee recolors on my elder mesh. Turns out the women's textures came out too short, so have to change them all again. I know, HP and many others have made plenty of untuckable tees. These aren't meant to replace or compete with those. They just have a slightly different look, are Maxis match, and make Maxis tees untuck friendly. coming soon... http://stonegod.org/sims2/tmp/ef/grannyTees.jpg Here are more granny t-shirts. Cocomama's elder untucked tee w/ HP textures http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=329242 dark rukario untucked tees, bright pastel colors http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=326695 . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : lenasha sweaters for TF / EF : 28th Oct 2009 at 7:01 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4417 ================================================================================ While making more shirt defaults, I realized lenasha's cable knit sweater could be converted for teens and elders. Adults have a preg morph. Teens and adults have a default replaced midsleeve tee mesh, and elders have a new custom mesh. The meshes are untuckable, and I replaced the Maxis baseball tee textures so they're untuckable too. (Coming soon. And then more defaults. The defaults seem to never end...) http://stonegod.org/sims2/tmp/ef/lenashaSweaters.jpg . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Epic EA Ineptitude : 14th Oct 2009 at 4:43 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4388 ================================================================================ As Lord Darcy, Pescado, and many others have shown us time and time again, EA can't be bothered to test their objects and BHAVs. This is also true of their clothing. What's really sad is clothing is so much simpler to test. Even EA could do it, if they just felt like it. 1) Put it on a sim in game. 2) Put it on a fat sim. 3) Preg morph? Put it on a pregnant sim. 4) Separate? Try it with various separates. 5) Untuckable? Check the waist seam. EA seems to have stopped at step 1, or even earlier, as in the case of the FreeTime teen outfit that had the wrong skin color! They don't seem to get to step 2, as the image below shows. http://stonegod.org/sims2/tmp/af/neoSkirt%20bork.jpg For added fun, look at the next image. What was EA thinking? Hm, we have this alpha mesh. No one will ever alpha edit it! And they won't make any large girls. So who cares if the legs are screwed up on the fat morph. Now, it's true I've never seen alpha edits of this mesh, and I don't think many people play "fat" sims. Not the point. EA didn't know that when they released the game, and they should have made each mesh properly. http://stonegod.org/sims2/tmp/af/hulaFail.jpg *headdesk headdesk headdesk* So there's a reason I haven't bothered playing Sims3 at all, and I buy EA products used. Not just the clothes, that's comparatively minor, though indicative of their overall fail. It's the other, much more serious borkage, and EA's continued lack of improvement in this regard. They can't be bothered to test? I can't be bothered to financially support them. Sims2. Fantastic game, amazing concept, shoddy execution. . ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Tied Halter Tops, Solid Colors, For Adults Too : 13th Oct 2009 at 12:10 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4379 ================================================================================ I really like the tied halter that came with Family Fun, but I think it is more appropriate for adults. Thank You Downloaders! It makes me smile when someone leaves a comment about my uploads, or even just clicks thanks. When someone leaves constructive criticism, that is also welcome, as are reports of any problems. I never ask anyone to hit my thanks button or comment. That would seem undignified to me, and I certainly don't think anyone ever owes me thanks. I create for myself, for fun, and would do so whether anyone hit thanks or not. I'm not one of those who think you should hit thanks every time you download. That turns the thanks button into a d/l counter and we already have one of those. However, it does make me quite happy when others find my uploads useful. If they hit thanks, I hope that's why. So because I can't reply to everyone who downloads, thanks, and comments in person, I thought I'd give you a shout out here. I have lots of TF/AF shirts and also TF swim/undies/nude made as well, but need to make preview pictures for them. I'm planning to make some recolors of the kasa shirt (striped midriff baring shirt, tied in front). I think a plain white and some solid colors would be very useful. Still behind on lots and lots of other projects. :/ At least I'm making some progress on the tooltip program. Have added directory selection (not uploaded yet). I'm also adding some other things users have asked for. New version might be up this week. Or not. We'll see. Four day weekend! Lots of time for sims stuff! Yay! No, really! http://images.thesimsresource.com/1271/1271909.jpg First, this is already in the Sims3 game. There's white bucketfill, you move some sliders around, and you can have any color bucketfill. Second, bucketfill is a solid color, not a pattern. Anyone can easily do bucketfill. MTS would have rejected such an upload because it is bucketfill. I'm not bashing here, just stating facts. Instead, I am spending my afternoon and evening attempting to undo the massive damage caused by the EA Store. I have every EP and SP, they all worked fine before I used the store. I made a store purchase. Afterwards, the M&G launcher failed to work. It said "wrong disk inserted" even though the M&G disk was in the drive. So I used the M&G EP9.exe instead. That ran, but the game said AL had been uninstalled. Lies. I never uninstalled AL. M&G BodyShop is also borked. I can no longer see any clothing from M&G, AL, H&M, and maybe Pets and IKEA, don't recall if those added clothes. This is what I get for trying to make a legitimate legal purchase. I can see what drives people to piracy and don't blame them. I comfort myself with the thought that I bought the latest EPs and SPs used, not from EA, so at least EA didn't get my money. edit: Uninstalling and reinstalling H&M has put H&M clothing back in BodyShop. Now to reinstall the other borked stuff. Wonder how much uninstalling AL will mess things up? edit2: Reinstalling has put clothes back in BodyShop, checking now if the game works properly. Grr, argh. I want my elders to look elderly. 5) several separates for grandma, will see what Cocomama uploads, so I don't duplicate 6) pregnant morphs for Maxis AF bottoms, default replacements, that fit HystericalParoxysm's untucked top the_mystical_one made a bunch of pregnancy morphs for lots and lots of clothes, but used a different shape than HP, that's why I'm also making a set 7) long term, several separates for grandpa, corduroy pants, default replacement for the sweater vest, some other stuff, no concrete plans yet edit: KiaraRawks made some nice separates here: http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=104628 edit: Kiara says they're not defaults, but I have permission to make them so. 8) all those other ideas I listed in my journal long, long ago, that I may or may not get to eventually, so if someone else wants to do them first, no problem ;) exception: I do plan to finish my military clothing eventually ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Annoying UV Map : 27th Mar 2009 at 11:37 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=3688 ================================================================================ edit2: Cocomama does have several EF separates in the works, but it turns out the top from efBodyTurtleneckSlacks is NOT one of them. Coco says I can go ahead and make this separate top, so I think I shall, hee hee! edit: I managed to make something reasonably stripey despite the UV map's limitations. I still hope Coco will make a straight line UV map though. This texture won't go to waste, I can still use it on the full body outfit. Orange sweater texture needs a better hem at the bottom, maybe sleeve cuffs, then it's done. Note to self, alter UV maps on future tops to allow easy stripes. http://stonegod.org/sims2/tmp/ef/testOrange.jpg Cocomama is making an EF separate top out of efBodyTurtleneckSlacks. I'm quite pleased by this and have started on some recolors. In the course of this work, I've decided the UV map for this mesh is quite problematic, so I hope Coco makes it better. I think if it were more like the UV map of efBodyTurtleneckScarf, it would be much easier to make recolors with vertical stripe elements, such as cable knit sweaters. See images and maps below for a visual explanation. Obviously, the texture is for testing not an an actual recolor yet. http://stonegod.org/sims2/tmp/ef/foo.jpg http://stonegod.org/sims2/tmp/ef/compare.jpg ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : No Plumber Butt! : 25th Mar 2009 at 7:44 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=3678 ================================================================================ edit: tm tanks tops are uploaded, am tank tops coming soon I'm making default replacements of tm and am tank tops. Several folks archive everything they download (or upload) on CDs. Some organize their archives by site, in addition to catalog category and creator. High time I started doing this too. Some good reasons to do so. - You might buy a new computer (and not swap in your old drive). - Your hardrive may fail. This has happened to me before. - The site(s) where you got some downloads may close. - The site(s) where you upload your creations may have hardware problems. I do organize my Downloads folder, and I do keep all my uploads on my machine. However, I don't keep my uploads in zips. So I had to rezip all of my creations that got toasted when chii failed before reuploading them. All my meshes used to be zipped with their UV maps. I would then delete the UV maps and zips. Since I'm too lazy to regenerate UV maps for all my toasted meshes, the reuploaded meshes don't come with UV map images. Had I archived my uploads, reuploading would have taken me less time and the UV maps would still be with the meshes. Live and learn. ;) ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Open Letter to EA - sign if so inclined : 11th Mar 2009 at 1:05 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=3598 ================================================================================ BlueSoup has written an open letter to EA. Please take a look, and if it echoes your sentiments, take a moment to sign it. I wanted EA to know why they won't have me as a customer for Sims3 and this petition let me do that. edit: I just bought three *used copies* of Sims2 stuff packs I didn't yet have. That way, EA doesn't get my money, while the person who no longer wants EA stuff gets a partial "refund". I won't be buying Sims3, but since I already have Sims2, made playable by free community mods, I wanted to complete my collection. That way, I have more textures and meshes to make free CC out of. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Layerable Undershirts and Leggings (tattoos? makeup?) : 12th Jan 2009 at 7:31 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=3369 ================================================================================ I want to be able to layer leggins and longsleeve undershirts with overshirts and skirts / pants. I do not want to have to make eleventy million different outfits for each possible color combination. Instead, I thought the undershirts or leggings could go on Morague's tattoo overlay or makeup. Then they could be combined with regular clothing and you end up with a lot less files! Just need to be careful and make sure tees/leggings come off in the shower, while swimming, in undies, in pjs. Maybe this could be done as Boy Voyage jewelry... so you could set it *per outfit* in game if you wanted to... Here's the prototype of the second version. http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/af/afOxUnRoll.jpg It's taking a while because I need to make sure the shirt works with as many bottoms as possible. The shirt mesh bone weights are actually done. There's some bottoms, a few custom, a few Maxis that wouldn't work with it as they were. The Maxis ones had stiff, chunky belts or wierd bone weights, so I adjusted them. Two of those have already been relased (jodhpurs, wide jeans). Custom bottoms didn't have anything wrong with them, but they were either just a tad too wide or a tad too skinny in the butt, so they didn't have the same fit as the Maxis bottoms. So I've been getting permission from their creators to make alternate versions (not fixes). So I'm working not just on a shirt (or two), but also several skirts and pants. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : found some oldies but goodies : 5th Nov 2008 at 1:39 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=3107 ================================================================================ Some old clothing from 2005 or so isn't always in the new clothing categories, and of course, it lacks the new search flags. Need to make it fit over Maxis bottms (or HP's version thereof). Most of those work fine, except for the long skirts and the jodhpurs. I never use the jodhpurs anyway, don't care for the shape, so thought I would default replace them. What do you think? http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/af/jodhpurs.jpg Here's the Oxford shirt so far, as you can see, the mesh still needs some work. Once it all looks good in BodyShop, I'll test in game and adjust bone weights so it moves properly. Then I can do the rest of the recolors. The lovely skirts shown are by Sentate. I may need to alter the longer one's tummy because making the shirt wider there would make the shirt look odd with other bottoms. Will see if Sentate will let me do that. http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/af/af%20Oxford%20version%202.jpg -------------------------------------------------------------- This entry is mostly notes to myself about what other folks are doing, so I don't reinvent the wheel. ;) Note to self, when making tf babydoll tops, keep in mind that there's already a nice looking mesh at ClubCrimsyn, in the meshes section, called TF-Top-TunicTop. Many, many days later, I'm still working on the damn alpha skirt. Bone assignments are done (see previous journal entry). Skirt textures aren't that hard, except for lining up the seams. But the shoes! I didn't want to make eleventy different meshes for each shoe. So I had to make the feet generic and make several different shoe textures. Can't just reuse Maxian shoes, they won't fit. Have to make them fit. Have to give them nice bump maps. Have to make sure each recolor has the correct shoe sound. And how much of this effort will downloaders appreciate? I'm guessing none of it. ;) They'll just look at the skirt part and maybe think "pretty skirt, but looks copied from Maxis, bet that took five minutes", LOL! tops by lolie2, HP, migamoo, and Maxis http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/tf alpha skirt/different shoes.png ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : alpha skirt almost ready : 8th Oct 2008 at 7:47 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=3040 ================================================================================ Guess what's the hardest part of making an alpha skirt? Not the meshing. Not the alpha aware recolor. It's the #*!@$% bone assignments! Unlike Maxis skirt meshes, this one has a sims' legs, hips, and bum inside the skirt and I want them to *stay* inside the skirt when the sims moves. I'm glad to say the bum, hips, and upper legs now do so. As for the calves, I just couldn't get them to stay in, but they only matter for the longest skirts. For those skirts, I'll just paint the legs with skirt texture so the clipping is not obvious. My pain is your gain. I've been writing a tutorial and believe me, it has a bone assignment section now. ;) more in game shots of sims moving in skirt 14h http://www.stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/tf%20alpha%20skirt%2014h/img/run%202.png ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : teen alpha skirt in the works... : 1st Oct 2008 at 4:14 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=3028 ================================================================================ Here's a preview of my tf alpha skirt. The mesh is done, now I need to make some textures for it. :) This project is NOT what's been eating up my time. It only took two days, don't believe those who would tell you this stuff is impossibly hard. Go read HP's tutorial about adding groups. I'll write one later about alpha groups specifically, and how to make alpha clothing. The reason I haven't been uploading lately is I've been busy playing Arcanum, heh heh. Hey Creators! To easily make the "inside layer" alpha group in MilkShape, do this: 1) Make a copy of your "outside layer" alpha group. This will be your "inside" group. Select it. 2) Face menu -> Reverse Vertex Order 3) Vertex menu -> Cat's Normal Smoother This makes the normals point inside, not outside, after you reverse the faces. These instructions are for a skirt with three groups, 1) legs, 2) skirt inside (alpha), 3) skirt outside (alpha). http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/tf alpha skirt/tfAlphaSkirtTest.png http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/tf alpha skirt/ff skirts.png ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Normal Smoothing Plugin #1, done! : 16th Sep 2008 at 12:03 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2994 ================================================================================ Check it out folks! It smooths normals in a user selected area and doesn't bork them at mesh seams, yay! download here http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/6/8/5/1/2/7/MTS2_CatOfEvilGenius_814887_web_anim_4.gif ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Learning to make MilkShape plugins, wheee! :D : 15th Sep 2008 at 1:02 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2993 ================================================================================ This weekend, I'm learning to make MilkShape plugins, wheee! I love coding! :D Big thanks to wes_h for answering some questions for me, the Chumbalum SDK forum has been no help at all so far and documentation is lacking. Not blaming anyone, just saying that's how it is. On the bright side, the SDK code is quite readable and the data structures make sense. Right now, I've got a working plugin that negates normals at selected vertices. I know, you could select faces and reverse vertex order and get something similar. Not the point. :) The point is, I can access normals at selected vertices and change them. Yay! http://www.stonegod.org/sims2/software/tmp/normalNegate.png The eventual goal is a smoothing plugin that lets you change normals only at selected vertices (and/or faces) and handles seams correctly. Why? Because Smooth All with smoothing groups, while nifty, doesn't do what I need. - Smooth All smooths everything. I don't want that. I want to just change the stuff selected and leave everything else as is, especially if the normals there are NOT supposed to make it look smooth! - Smooth All breaks at seams. (arm seams, leg seams, side of clothing seams) That's because the faces at the seams are not actually connected, they just have coincident vertices. Smooth All only works at connected faces, not coincident vertices at the seams. And you do NOT want to weld them to make the faces connected or your UV map breaks. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : I caved and got AL even though Maxis hasn't patched it yet (MATY & MTS2 did) : 12th Sep 2008 at 5:16 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2979 ================================================================================ I was going to hold out and NOT buy Apartment Life until EA/Maxis patched it. The mesh is done. (This project is now done!) I adjusted the sleeves so they're not so long and skinny. I adjusted the bone weights to match up with the Maxis mini skirt. That's the one Maxis bottom that always gives me trouble with untucked tops. (Also adjusted my old sweater mesh bone weights.) http://stonegod.org/sims2/img/projects/compare meshes.jpg DONE, YAY! - adjust hem bone weights on my untucked top mesh : please redownload mesh - kids untucked t-shirts with Toronto Humane Society art - fakepeeps7 ruffle skirt, mesh adjusted to fit under my untucked tops ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Attack of the Project List! : 20th Aug 2008 at 8:37 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2899 ================================================================================ I'm back, and I bring capris for girls! Well, almost. Soon, really. Just need to finish texturing. And meshing the cuffed ones. Then I plan to make more Smooks Brothers menswear for all ages. Then lots of kids untucked tees. However, the order I do stuff may change if some new idea strikes my fancy. DONE, YAY! - girls capris, separates, uncuffed - bow shirts by fakepeeps7, made into tops by me - "no cowboy boots" skirt by me and fakepeeps7 : Part 1, patterns - "no cowboy boots" skirt by me and fakepeeps7 : Part 2, fp7 "ruffle clothes" match - 44 tees for kids (Maxis snug tee mesh) - 17 loose tucked tees for kids ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Whew! I need a break for a few days! :) : 6th Aug 2008 at 7:22 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2855 ================================================================================ I just finished a very large project, the Smooks Brothers 2008 Collection of apparel for boys. 2 meshes (4 if you count Maxis ones), 77 recolors! That was about a week's worth of evenings. I need a break for a few days or I'll start dreaming about UV maps. ;) Then it's back to my ever growing project list! (see previous journal entry for The List) ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Kids Clothes Take Over My Spare Time : 17th Jul 2008 at 12:01 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2795 ================================================================================ I made a "green screen / blue screen" CAS and YACAS so I can easily "cut out" sims and put them on other backgrounds. Too lazy to do an in game photo studio, don't want to mess with turning off motive decay, free will, aging, posing my sims, clothing cheats/hacks, etc. The green / blue screen CAS has been working great! Used it for my kids shorts mesh pictures, and the CAS is in the mod queue now. :) I'm STILL working on kids clothes! Have so many ideas I want to get through before returning to my other, non-kid projects. So here's what I've got in the works, in various stages of completion, ranging from "nearly done" to "just an idea"... AVAILABLE NOW! - fixed OFB puff sleeve girls' shirt neck seam - girls geometric pattern halter tops - overall shorts rompers, jean and corduroy, with appliques - Maxis baggy pants defaults, fixed alpha, better shoes, correct colors + recolors : plain jeans for girls, more colors, corduroys! - loose cropped pants (or long baggy shorts) for kids - replacement mesh for boys skinny cowboy pants - green screen CAS / YACAS - girls babydoll tops - "Smooks Brothers Boys Apparel" : creased slacks, polos, Oxfords, sweaters, more! IN MODERATION QUEUE... NEARLY DONE - girls capris, separates, uncuffed CURRENT PROJECT(S) - girls capris, separates, *cuffed* - kids tops : henleys - girls' tops: blouses with sleeves - Bermuda length shorts for kids ON THE TO DO LIST... - girls' skirts on fakepeeps7's mesh and KiaraRawks' mesh, and maybe modify adult long skirt mesh? - cat and dog shirts, tucked and untucked, featuring Toronto Humane Society poster art - fakepeeps7's sweater textures on KiaraRawks' sweater top mesh (used with permission) - kids turtleneck top mesh, maybe two, tucked and untucked - cable knit sweaters on my untucked mesh or a new turtleneck mesh - kangaroo pocket longsleeves - hoodie top mesh - recolor KiaraRawks' girls skirt mesh - convert adult long skirt and/or Uni long skirt for girls - adjust hem bone weights on my untucked top mesh - bell sleeve hippie shirts and pants on faeriegurl's mesh - recolor JasanaBugbreeder's totally amazing dress mesh (probably won't happen, may be beyond my abilities) ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Learning to Mesh for Military Project, but Making Kids Clothes :) : 4th Jul 2008 at 11:29 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2757 ================================================================================ I still intend to do the stuff in my previous journal entry, but for the military project, I needed to learn to mesh. While doing that, I made some kids clothes. :) I've also been recoloring some of fakepeeps7's wonderful stuff, just because I couldn't resist. Check out the excellent meshing, UV mapping, and texturing tutorials in the Create section if you want to learn to mesh too. It's much easier than you think, especially if you're modifying preexisting Maxis meshes. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : projects in the works : 27th May 2008 at 7:01 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2643 ================================================================================ This entry is mostly for my benefit, so I don't forget what all I plan to do! But if you're curious, now you too can know what I'm planning. ;) In no particular order of importance... - make wrinklier elder faces for Age Transition Faces - make non-default versions of Age Transition Faces that still use HP's files for below the neck - make flatter nose blush in the Tropical shade, to match new Idolatry skin I blended - recategorize army uniforms fatigues should be Everyday, Athletic, Outerwear, Swim officers uniforms should be Everyday, Formal, Outerwear - make military combo undies/pjs/swim/athletic outfits, olive drab tee, dark olive shorts, dog tags - make arches for build mode (or decorative objects) that do NOT divide a room for sims, division is only visual, but sims percieve rooms on both sides of arch as one room, "Go sit in the dining room to drink your coffee, damn it!" - make a modder's resource to help find / change career outfits - help Phaenoh find career outfits that migrated out of Everyday, so she can categorize them sanely (as she's already done) AND in the Maxis manner, as Everyday, so they're still career outfits If you haven't seen Phaenoh's Great Clothing Migration, it is awesome, go check it out and leave her a note if you like it. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : Burn it! (game corruption eats my day) : 18th May 2008 at 12:21 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2627 ================================================================================ (Who's lived this story before?) I have just spent an entire day looking for the source of my Sims2 game corruption, finding it, attempting to fix it, failing, nuking the borked neighborhood, installing all the EPs and SPs I haven't yet because I didn't want them borking the game (back when it wasn't borked), downloading the mods that fix those EPs and SPs because Maxis can't be bothered to fix them, reinstalling my CC, checking for the latest updates to said CC, updating SimPE, updating TS2Enhancer, making sure I have the correct version of BodyShop on my desktop... Are we having fun yet? ;) Ah, a fresh start, a sim world full of promise and possibility and potential to be realized. I predict about three sim generations before the game is borked to the point of unplayability again. That's about how long it takes. I get really invested in the sims and the stories, then major borkage. That's okay. :) I'm actually quite zen about it now. It's only a game. Also, this time, I plan to make backups at the drop of a hat. In fact, maybe weekly backups. Or backups every time I play even. And especially when I think "this small change can't POSSIBLY bork anything in the game, let's do it!" Also, I vow never, ever to use SimPE Sim Surgery again, nor mess with Sim DNA and appearance with SimPE. Not without backing up first. Then double checking to make sure I actually backed up. Yes, mock me. I forgot to back up. I deserve your ridicule. ;P ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : eyeshadow - default replacements : 29th Apr 2008 at 8:21 PM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2578 ================================================================================ UPDATE: This project is done. Next project - default replacement eyeshadows! Many Maxis eyeshadows are too heavy for me. They're not sheer enough for my taste either. Lots of sweet custom shadows exist, but I want default replacements so I don't have to make over all my townies manually. ================================================================================ ================================================================================ : current project : age appropriate faces for Idolatry of Flesh : 28th Apr 2008 at 9:35 AM : https://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=2575 ================================================================================ UPDATE: this project is done (but I might make the wrinkles more visible later since they're almost invisible right now) I'm currently working on adding age appropriate faces to HP's sweet Idolatry of Flesh skins. Babies will start out with chubby cheeks, flat noses, not deep eyes, very smooth features. As sims age, their features will get more defined. Eyes will become more deep set, noses sharper, cheeks thinner as they lose baby fat. I plan to add elder wrinkles too, at some point... Here's the light faces I have so far for the light skin: ================================================================================ : ---End File---
