There's a joke among English Writing majors in college. That we all want to be famous authors, but we're going to end up being high school English teachers. That joke would be a hell of a lot funnier if it weren't true. Now don't get me wrong...I love teaching about writing and literature, and most of the time, I love the kids. I just wish fifteen year olds were a little more mature sometimes, that's all!

I think the best thing about my job, though, is that's where I met Zev. Now...I know it's a bad idea to date people you work with. That rule is ten times as true for teachers. My best friend, Mireio, isn't stuck in the rut of "those who can't, teach"...no, she's actually a model. However, that doesn't stop us from hitting the ice rink a couple of times a week, and acting like little kids, pretending that someday we might be going for the gold in the Olympics. The bruises on our butts prove that we're getting a little old for those dreams, though!

When I was little, I always used to hate my birthday. Because it's January 28th and I lived in Minnesota. Everyone else there hated my birthday, too. Penelope is the type of girl that likes to experience new things as often as
possible, and loves to dabble and experiment. One way she's done this is by cooking.
It combines all the things she loves, variety, art, expermentation and spice!

The final round is all about your creativity. There are not many restrictions, so go crazy!

The Task:

First of all, since this round is the final one, there are no teams anymore. That means everybody fights on his own :P
However, you all get a new theme, which is "Day and Night". I'm sure you all have some pictures in mind when you hear that, and that's exactly what I want to see!

I want you to take 4 pictures for this round, and at least two of them must feature either your Sim or your house.
It would be nice to see your Sim's story continued, but that is not a must.

Optional Task:

Create a banner for a possible cycle 2 of this contest. I am not yet sure whether I'll do another cycle (that would depend on how many people would be interested in that and some other factors) but if I do one, it will certainly not be about Elements (would be boring, wouldn't it?!), so keep that in mind.
The banner must feature your Sim and / or house and at least have the words "All Star" on it. The rest is up to you! :D This can earn you up to three extra points.
Also, I'd appreciate it if you'd share your thoughts about this contest. What did you like / did you not like? What would you do differently in another cycle / what would you like to see then?

What I want to see in your entry:

4 free shots, at least two of them with your Sim and / or your house
naturally all pictures must at least have some game elements (objects, Sims etc) in them ;)

all shots must be at least 600x450, but max. 650x550 or 600x600 size (except for the banner, that one can be smaller)

Photoshopping:

Photoshopping is not required, but you can use it any way you like, but please do not write anything on the pictures.

What the judges will be looking for:

the theme (Day and Night) must be clearly recognizable
you must stick to the pictures and the photoshopping rules
the overall quality of the picture (too light / too dark, blurriness, *)
the uniqueness / creativity of your pictures

And please remeber what I said in the initial post:
In the last round you will work alone but if you were in the group that was leading after round 3, you will automatically receive 5 points more in round 4.
In this round, you will get more than 30 points, since it is so different from the other ones.

What can I say, I've really enjoyed this contest. I find the way that you look at all the separate different aspects such as building the house and creating the sim really helps when building up a mental picture of what I'm going to do. I'm definately going to carry on Reiva's story, and I'm already planning bits of it for when Bon Voyage comes out, such as the honeymoon.

The theme idea was really good as you had to think about meanings and symbols.

And as for what I didn't like? Nothing, it was all good.:D

Mark and I are getting closer. During the day, usually early afternoon, he comes over and we hang out in the hot tub, go shopping, go to lunch or whatever. Mark works nights so we spend as much time together during the day and his days off that is possible. I wonder tho.

Karina is terrific. I love spending time with her during the day. She's a wonderful cook and dancer. One afternoon she grilled bass and it was fantastic. She said it was the fish she caught when we first met, she had frozen it in hopes of us sharing it together. I told her I work nights, which is partially true.

What did you like / did you not like? I like the idea of having to stay in game, but still being able to photoshop. I also like the no eliminations until the end. It was challenging, not a copy and paste from google images. There really wasn't anything that I didn't like, I thought you did a fantastic job running it and the judges were great. Thanks for the opportunity to participate.

My life has changed a lot since I've since you last. I got a recording contract! I was so excited! A record company came to Exquisite and we recorded a demo the next week and they loved it! I now spend my days recording in their studio in hopes of becoming a famous pop star!

My Nights are spent with my new boyfriend, Jack. My old one didn't work out in the end, but I like Jack even more! He plays guitar for my band. We do lots of gigs together along with Gareth, my bass player. It's awesome! Night time concerts are the best. I can start to wave my arms and the crowd will mimic my moves. It's amazing!

I enjoyed this contest muchly! I liked the fact that there was a theme to it and there was different rounds depending upon different parts of the game. This kept it busy and interesting rather than just the same thing over and over. I can't think of any improvements, hehe. I hope to see you next cycle. ^_^

Well it's been a challenging competition, which always makes it more enjoyable. I did wonder whether some of the elements were slightly trickier to work with than others...looking back I might not have picked Earth - I found it difficult to produce good clear images working with such dark colours.

When you were a kid, were you afraid of the dark? Me too, I was sure that monsters lurked under the bed and inside the closet, and in all those places I couldn’t see, even with my eyes wide open. I guess eventually we all realize that there’s nothing there at night that isn’t there during the day. The secret horrors we think lurk in dark closets are just plain truths...yes, and old toys and gym shoes, I had those too. And isn’t under the bed the best place in the world to store a box of secrets?

The funny thing is that daytime can hold as many seductive shadows and elusive secrets as the night.
The night can be full of an illumination and energy that’s impossible during the day.

I guess it’s like that with everything: good and evil, pleasure and pain, darkness and light. We need to experience the qualities of each to make the other matter, and most of our lives are lived in the space between the opposites. The adventure lies in how willing we are to experience the extremes.

Nietzsche said that the secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and greatest enjoyment is to live dangerously. What's your opinion on that?

What did you like / did you not like?

I didn't like anything about this contest. On the contrary, I loved everything about it! ;) I really enjoyed taking more in-game shots than I usually do, that was a challenge for me. And I still was able to photoshop some poses and effects, which I always enjoy. The best thing about this contest was the variety of tasks, and the element of surprise in each task. There is nothing specific I personally didn't enjoy.

What would you do differently in another cycle / what would you like to see then?

I'd have to think about what could have been done differently, because I thought it was a well-run and organized contest as it is. I did expect a Team Challenge at one point, which could have been a chance for a team to move up the ranks with bonus points for winning the challenge. So I guess that's something I'd like to see in the next cycle.

Heh, I was thinking about feedback on the contest. It seemed like, with four rounds, we spent a little too much time centered on just Sims. I think if you kept a similar structure if there's another cycle, that perhaps you could split up building and decorating, and have two sim-centered rounds.

It might also be neat to have a (reasonably easy) recolor round (like make a t-shirt or bedding or outfit), though I don't know how many people are able to do that sort of thing. I've done a few t-shirt, makeup, eye, and hair recolors and braved the object recolor road just last night, so I'm not really experienced myself, but it would definitely be an interesting touch to add to an "all-star" type contest.

I did like the team aspect, but it would be interesting to see it if it were randomized, somehow, too. Or even chosen by the host, but then weighted by contest experience (one of the app questions would then need to be number of contests entered and hosted), so they were evenly matched.

I think it is very likely that I'll do another cycle later this year, and then I'll try to add those things some people wanted to see.
