Ok, I have been searching for anything about this online for the past hour only to come up with nothing so I figured I'd try asking here. I'm building a house and I would like to make an area inside an outdoor garden (I have no idea what they're called, but I think an atrium is a close way to describe it). I will post links to screens so you can see what I'm trying to do.

Floor 1 (http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo289/equiliu/1.jpg): I want this to be the the actual garden and it is situated in the center of the building. I know an easy way to make this considered outside is to leave a wall open for it but it's not possible in the building I'm working on as there are rooms and hallways surrounding this area.

Floor 2 (http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo289/equiliu/2.jpg): The upstairs. As you can see it is considered outside as one of the walls is missing.

With roof (http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo289/equiliu/3.jpg): view with roof. This is exactly what I want it to look like except, the bottom floor is not considered outdoors. I'd like the "sunlight" to hit the bottom floor and be able to place outdoor plants there.

Is there any way I can do this and if so, could someone point me in that direction? Thanks so much~

Oh, thank you, I didn't see the building forum. My apologies.

I know how you feel. i've tried to do that too, and i think i figured something out. actually figured it out minutes before this post.
1. Make the house around the garden with the gap in the wall
2. put your garden stuff in there
3. Fill in the gap in the wall
There! :D Now you have the garden surrounded by house. Also, if you have seasons, you can avoid putting a roof over it, and there will be weather in there too! :)

The game treats every room that is surrounded by walls as "indoors". So what you're trying to do is not possible. You'd have to find a workaround that breaks up the walls somehow (e.g. a covered passage leading to the garden).

ooh, I'm a bit late to reply but thanks, I'll try to rework the hallways around it and see how it goes.

EDIT: DONE! I pulled out a single wall tile on either side of the hallway that surrounds the garden room and put one of the large privacy fences in it's place. Luckily I didn't have to take the roof off (that was one of my biggest worries was having to redo the entire roof >.<). It's exactly what I was looking to do now. Thanks SO MUCH!
